  For added convenience, app Notifications have a setting that allows them to be seen and interacted with on your lock screen. It is a setting entirely optional and can be disabled for individual applications under settings > Notifications. You can still receive alert sounds when a message arrives through to be notified, you have received one, but it will not appear on your lock screen.
