1225 VIC Port Virtualization question on Cisco UCS C240, 460 servers without FI

Dear all,

I have installed & configured the hypervisor, its running fine.  But the servers are connected directly to the nexus & there is no FI here.

But the business must virtulize the adapter VIC & use for multiple purposes such as vmotion, FT etc...

When I create a vNIC on CIMC & map the uplink port 0 or 1, even if those who signed off on the esxi console, even if the status of uplinks in the esxi console are shows connected.

Will be that the adapter Virtualization is supported wireless?  Please tell us the best practices, how to use the Cisco VIC 1225/1227 wireless & how to virtualize the adapter.

It would be a great help...

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Gopi G

    Hello

I'm trying to install VMWare ESXi on a Cisco UCS C240 M3 and have a few problems.

I configured the other servers before, but never a Cisco UCS.

    Firmware versions

v1.5 (7 c) I could not load the KVM as I have a problem of Java. I am running Java v1.6.0_27 on my client.

v2.0 (1B), the server kept by booting to the BIOS and seemed to ignore other startup options

v2.0 (3d) the keyboard no longer works in KVM.

    Startup options

There are a lot of startup options, and they seem to be configurable in many different places.

I don't know where to start or what would be best practices?

Nothing seems to work I'm waiting, and I did a lot of reading through documents, help, etc. online.

My local Cisco support person on vacation so I hope someone can help me or guide me in the right direction.

    Thank you & best regards

Glad you found a way to fix it, don't forget to mark it as answered future users finding themselves in the same situation.

I followed the steps to recover the bios but below the image, this machine couldn't find a recovery.cap file...

I just plugged my USB key and the file recovery.cap in the folder root of the USB.

also the FAT16 formatted USB and FAT32, but it failed.

I plugged my USB thumb key USB which is at the center of the server.

    Help, please...

also, the keyboard and the mouse doesn't work. they couldn't recognize too.

Have you had the recovery.cap ISO HUU for the ISO c240 (see screenshot)?

Make sure the USB is formatted, and only the image of recovery.cap is inside.

  • How to move a stand-alone series C of Cisco UCS managed service profile without losing any data?

    Hello

We currently have a stand-alone series cisco C with 2012 Windows Server installed on the local disks.  We need to go this Cisco UCS server managed with a service profile, but can not lose existing data and the method of operating system boot.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Thank you

    Hi Adrien,.

To be able to accomplish this together the local drive to 'any Configuration' policy this way UCSM won't overwrite the current raid on the server configuration.

    See the link below

Let me know if that helps

  • Cisco UCS c240 can not have a partition outside the disk

    Hello

I try to install ESXi 5.5 on a Cisco UCS of c240 M3.

The local drive is a FlexFlash Raid 1 2 sd cards.

When installing esx sees the local map 30 g.

request the language, root password and when I click on install, it gives an error. (see attached files)

This program has encountered an error: parted util, can't have a partition outside the disk

I have 2 servers configured exactly, out of the box, same error... any idea?

OK, so I tried with an older version of esx:

    ESXi-5.5.0-1746018-Custom-Cisco-5.5.1.3.iso

and it seems to work for now (it's 28%)

  • Cisco UCS C210 M2: PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

    Hello

I'm working on Cisco UCS C210 M2 servers. I got 10 146 GB SAS HD with LSI MegaRAID Raid Controller. I did run the Raid Controller and choose RAID6. After that I installed ESXi and it said to reboot the server. Now, when I restart the server I get the following error message:

PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable of

PXE - M0F: Exit Boradcom PXE ROM

Restart, and then select proper boot service

or Insert Boot Media in some boot device and press a key

Any suggestions how I can solve this problem.

    Thank you.

You will need to go into the Bios of the controller LSI MegaRaid (Ctrl + H) and select the option of virtual drives on the left. When the virtual command window opens, you must select the drive (Raid Volume) on which you want your drive master boot and underneath there will be an option to set as your boot device. Apply and save.

  • C22 M3 VIC 1225 Cisco UCS no link

I have a M3 C22 with Vmware 5.5 running and Cisco VIC 1225 card.  I've recently updated all firmware for 2.0.3i on the box through CIMC.  I see the installed Cisco VIC card and I have configured each port as a standard switch.

I installed the fiber SFP - 10 G - SR module in ports.

    Product name: UCS VIC 1225

    Product ID: USCS-PCIE-CSC-02

    Current firmware: 4.0 (1e)

I have my 4510R switch + E configured as follows:

    interface TenGigabitEthernet2/1/1

Description map VM Cisco Fiber NETWORK

    switchport trunk vlan 20 native

    switchport trunk allowed vlan 20

    switchport mode trunk

    spanning tree portfast

is there any other configuration that I'm missing about why I'm not able to get a connection between the server and the switch?

Cool, I hope you also tried a different port on the switch to be sure.

If the card was bad, please mark this thread as a response so that you can show the users that you have this figured out; I hope I was help somehow.

  • Virtualization Cisco UCS in some software

    Hello community,

I want to ask you a few tips. My question is: If there is some software that virtualizes Cisco UCS? Freeware is the best option. Reason why I ask is because I need to create the test environment for the follow-up. IBM followed agent KV6 for Cisco UCS, which connects via HTTP to UCS Manager.

    Thank you Jan

Take a look at the UCS platform emulator. https://communities.Cisco.com/docs/doc-66688

In my view, that it will respond to SNMP requests and api as the normal version.

    Thank you

  • Configuring the Cisco UCS 5108 ports

    Hi all

I'm new in the world of the Cisco UCS server and am setting up Cisco UCS 5108 blade server. The server has two Cisco UCS 6324 interconnections fabric I did the initial Setup on and I try to configure the ports for the blades. Looking through the various articles and tutorials after setting global policies, I see the whole world establishment of uplink and server ports. What I read the uplink ports are plugged directly into the switches (I work with two cisco nexus switches), and server ports are used to connect to the chassis.

I wonder once the configured ports server what exactly are supposed to connect to? I assumed they would also connect to the switch nexus with the uplink ports. However, every time I set up the server ports and plug them in, the switch doesn't seem to have flooded and we lose all connectivity. If I unplug, the connection is restored almost immediately.

The current configuration, that I work with is two ports uplink on each fabric interconnect (4 2 total in each switch of nexus), two server ports on each (4 2 total, in every nexus switch). The only other element connected to the nexus switches is a SAINT who will be configured as a boot and storage of the UCS 5108.

Looks like you have a Mini UCS (6324), with 4-port 10 GB (each FI/IOM) with port QSFP 40 GB that can provide network connectivity linking rising, or if configured as a server port, could be used to connect to a server in a rack compatible Cisco UCS, or connect to a 5108 additional with IOM 2204XP chassis.  The blades installed in your initial 5108 chassis 6324 FI/IOM of housing have internal connectivity to the FIs / IOM without the need to configure ports 'server'...

Please take a look at some of the visuals in the datasheet below.

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/UCS-6300-series-fabric-interconnects/datasheet-C78-732207.html

Unified ports can also be configured as a FC ports for connectivity of FC switch upstream or directly related to CF Storage processors.

After having watched the datasheet, let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll try to address them.

You'll not need actually configure ports such as ports 'server' unless you connect servers in a rack.

Please configure any ethernet SFP type connected to your switches nexus upstream as 'network' uplinks.  I guess that you don't plan on a disjoint config layer 2 (where each FI has several sets of uplinks will different devices upstream, or the same device with different VLANS allowed on each link).    If you are, we can have a separate thread about how you need to configure that.

    Thank you

  • Cisco UCS B200 M4Compatible with 2100 FEX in UCS 5108 chassis & FI 6100?

    Hello

The blade server Cisco UCS B200 M4 is compatible with FEX 2100 within a Cisco UCS 5108 chassis & Cisco UCS 6100 fabric of interconnection?

The interop tool said clearly for the B200-M4:

    http://www.Cisco.com/Web/TechDoc/UCS/interoperability/matrix/matrix.html

Note 14: The 2104XP fabric Extender is not compatible when the 1240 and 1280 or 1240 and VIC Port Expander are combined on the same blade. Applies to the M3 and M3 B200 as well as B420 B22 with 1240 and the 2 adapter connector populated

    or for the VIC 1340

Note 38: 6100 series fabric interconnects and 2100 series fabric Extender is not supported

  • Reserved Vlan ID in Cisco UCS

I understand that to be true with Cisco UCS platform:

"you cannot create a VLAN with ID from 3968 to 4047. This VLAN ID range is reserved. »

I have a private network 172.16.x.x North on my network is in the vlan what ID 4001, I wanted to present this southbound on NGC.  Maybe it's a stupid question but the only way to be arounf to change the Vlan ID to the one who is sitting in the pool of UCS Vlan IDS that are allowed?

    Yes, unfortunately

  • Connection Cisco UCS 6120 FI directly to Cisco Catalyst 6500?

I watch a lot of design with the Cisco UCS solution guide and everywhere it is Cisco Nexus 5000/7000 connects to the uplink ports of Cisco UCS 6120 FI with the benefits of technology to the vPC.

How about connect Cisco UCS 6120 FI directly to 10GE ports in Cisco Catalyst 6500 (without VSS and VSS)? It is possible to design?

If I use C6500VSS there will be port-channel of the aggregation of the UCS Nx10GE all the bandwidth?

And what happens if I use C6500 (without VSS) - how it will be on the many links between UCS and two boxes C6500? It will be blocked by STP? A little on the other?

Please explain to me, because we have only C6500 switches in our data center and want to test a Cisco UCS schassis.

Yes, you can connect the 6120 s to cat6500s with or without vs. With VSS, you get a vPC as port channel where 2 links to a single 6120 can be connected to different 2 6500 s in a port LACP-channel.

VSS is not necessary, you can connect a 10 G uplinks / 1 G of 1 or more of a 6120 at cat6500s. I you have 2 cat6500s (non - vss) and 2 uplinks by 6120, then you want to connect 1 cat6500-1 and the other to cat6500-2. I would recommend going ahead and creating a single port-channel port so that you can easily add the uplinks in the furture without interruption of service.

    Ideally, for non - vss, I would have 4 10 uplinks by 6120; 2 in a channel port cat6500-1 and 2 in a port in cat6500-2 channel
