Configuring the Cisco UCS 5108 ports

Hi all

I'm new in the world of the Cisco UCS server and am setting up Cisco UCS 5108 blade server. The server has two Cisco UCS 6324 interconnections fabric I did the initial Setup on and I try to configure the ports for the blades. Looking through the various articles and tutorials after setting global policies, I see the whole world establishment of uplink and server ports. What I read the uplink ports are plugged directly into the switches (I work with two cisco nexus switches), and server ports are used to connect to the chassis.

I wonder once the configured ports server what exactly are supposed to connect to? I assumed they would also connect to the switch nexus with the uplink ports. However, every time I set up the server ports and plug them in, the switch doesn't seem to have flooded and we lose all connectivity. If I unplug, the connection is restored almost immediately.

The current configuration, that I work with is two ports uplink on each fabric interconnect (4 2 total in each switch of nexus), two server ports on each (4 2 total, in every nexus switch). The only other element connected to the nexus switches is a SAINT who will be configured as a boot and storage of the UCS 5108.

Looks like you have a Mini UCS (6324), with 4-port 10 GB (each FI/IOM) with port QSFP 40 GB that can provide network connectivity linking rising, or if configured as a server port, could be used to connect to a server in a rack compatible Cisco UCS, or connect to a 5108 additional with IOM 2204XP chassis.  The blades installed in your initial 5108 chassis 6324 FI/IOM of housing have internal connectivity to the FIs / IOM without the need to configure ports 'server'...

Please take a look at some of the visuals in the datasheet below.

http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/UCS-6300-series-fabric-interconnects/datasheet-C78-732207.html

Unified ports can also be configured as a FC ports for connectivity of FC switch upstream or directly related to CF Storage processors.

After having watched the datasheet, let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll try to address them.

You'll not need actually configure ports such as ports 'server' unless you connect servers in a rack.

Please configure any ethernet SFP type connected to your switches nexus upstream as 'network' uplinks.  I guess that you don't plan on a disjoint config layer 2 (where each FI has several sets of uplinks will different devices upstream, or the same device with different VLANS allowed on each link).    If you are, we can have a separate thread about how you need to configure that.

Thank you

Kirk...

  • Service profile of the CISCO UCS for ESXi

Do you need multiple boot LUN on the storage array for each host that you want to apply the service profile to? I'm just confused, let's say I have 12 blades that I want to designate as boot SAN for ESXi, y aura-t 12 profiles of separate service for each of them, and will need me 12 different LUNS on our storage? I am new to this and I just want to make it as clean as possible! Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Justin,

You can have the same LUN ID for multiple service profiles, as well as the same target ID. However, your initiators will be different and you will need to configure the zoning on your switch upstream if you use the end host mode.

Here is a good guide, review the basics and how to put in place.

  • Interface issues Netgear Smartswitch to the Cisco 881 LAN port

Hi, we have 100 routers Cisco 881 in our network and they work all fine for the Linksys, 3Com, switches etc.  The problem we encountered is interfacing to switches from Netgear.  Netgear switches use automatic detection on their ports and it doesn't seem to be compatible with auto MDIX detection on the LAN Cisco 881 4 serial ports on the router 881 hub.  Someone has encountered this problem before?  A cross over cable solve the problem?  Since both executed MDIX autosensing they never synch - so probably a cross on would not make much.  I see this with all Netgear smartswitches.  If you put a small switch between the Netgear switch and router Cisco 881 everything works well except to pass traffic to port 9000.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

    See you soon,.

    Hello

There should be no problem using crossover cable. You can try disabling autoMDI/MDIX (not auto mdix) on the cisco device and keep a straight cable but if it fails, use a crossover cable.

  • Cisco UCS 5108 add NIC to ESXi host

    Hello

I'm quite new in the world of the UCS, so I slowly read up on it. We currently have a laboratory with a 5108 that host two of our esxi5 servers. When I say lab, I mean a configuration that is not in production yet, and if I can use it to learn right now. I just now each server I create gives me only 2 network cards to work with, so I would like to add. I have attemtpted to add a new network adapter for the service model and apply it, but I get the following error.

"There are not enough global resources. Not enough available vNIC.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong or if 2 is my limit.

    Thank you

    Welcome to Dennis,

The quantity of NICs you can create depending on the model of the adapter.

    E.g.

See the diagram below for the virtual interfaces supported by the adapter model

When you use the VIC M81 maximum interfaces that you create also depends on the number of links between IOM (chassis) and interconnections of fabric).  56 is assuming that you have 4 links of each fabric of interconnection of each IOM.

In addition, blades of large width (B250, B440) can support two adapters mezz, so you can adjust the vnic/vhba max.

    Kind regards

  • Cisco UCS - FC ports not visible

on my fabric UCS of interconnection, no ports appear under ports CF.

all are rather visible under Ethernet Ports.

am I missing something? have already checked under LAN and SAN Manager of uplinks

What kind of fabric Interconnect you 6100 s or 6200 s? If 6100 s then you need plug-ins that support the FC ports.

If you have a 6200 s, you must configure your Ports unified:

  • Configure the Cisco VPN client to pass through the VPN site-to-site (GUI)

    Hello

I say hat the chain and responses I've seen to achieve this goal have been great...

    https://supportforums.Cisco.com/discussion/12234631/Cisco-ASA-5505-VPN-p...

    and

    https://supportforums.Cisco.com/document/12191196/AnyConnect-client-site...

My question is "we will get this configuration by using the graphical user interface for someone who is not notified about the command line?"

    Thank you

Of course, all this can be configured via ASDM.

Looking at the second example you posted above, they point you first change:

ACL split of the tunnel for the AnyConnect customer

This Configuration > remote access VPN > network (Client) access > AnyConnect connection profile > (chose the profile and select Edit) > (choose "Manage" next to group policy) > Edit > advanced > Split Tunneling > ensure that the policy does not "Inherit" but rather "Tunnel network list below" > Unselect "Inherit" next to the network list, then 'manage '. Enter your networks you want in the GUI in this dialog box. Click OK all the way back to the main window ASDM and click on apply.

    You then change:

Crypto ACL for the tunnel from Site to Site

To do this, go to Configuration > VPN Site-to_site > connection profiles > (choose your profile and select edit) > add the VPN client address pool to the list of local network between protect networks. Yet once, click OK all the way back to the main window ASDM and click on apply.

    Then, allow the

ASA to redirect back on the same interface traffic it receives

.. is defined under Configuration > Device Setup > Interfaces. (check the box at the bottom of this screen). Click on apply

Finally, there is the NAT exemption. For which go to Configuration > firewall > rules NAT. Add a NAT device rule before rules network object with Interface Source out, Source address your address pool VPN, the Destination address to include remote subnets and Action is Static Source NAT type source address and destination address remaining as original (i.e. without NAT). Once on OK all the way back to the main window ASDM and click on apply. Save and test.

Good luck. Don't forget to note the brand and posts useful when your question is answered.

  • What is the best way to configure the Cisco IOS password?

    I'm under 15.2 (4) IOS on a router in 1921

What is the best way to set up the password of the router?  I already tried once and managed to block me on another switch.  I would use the most secure method that encrypts the password.

    Current config:

    username admin privilege 15 password 0 cisco123

    Hey Kevin,

Use the secret keyword instead of the password for the password more secure and encrypted.

The syntax that you are using will display the password in clear text.

    R1 (config) #username, 0 privilege 15 password test
    R1 (config) #exi
    R1 #sh runn
    * 00:00:25.523 Mar 1: % SYS-5-CONFIG_I: configured from console by console
    R1 #sh runn | in test
username password 0 privilege 15 test
    R1 #.

If you use the keyword secret then it will get encrypted.

    R1 #sh runn | in test1
    username privilege 15 secret 5 test1 $1$ PV6g$ sGMYxxmW8hD9Cdy7TsmHF0
    R1 #.

  • Connection Cisco UCS 6120 FI directly to Cisco Catalyst 6500?

I watch a lot of design with the Cisco UCS solution guide and everywhere it is Cisco Nexus 5000/7000 connects to the uplink ports of Cisco UCS 6120 FI with the benefits of technology to the vPC.

How about connect Cisco UCS 6120 FI directly to 10GE ports in Cisco Catalyst 6500 (without VSS and VSS)? It is possible to design?

If I use C6500VSS there will be port-channel of the aggregation of the UCS Nx10GE all the bandwidth?

And what happens if I use C6500 (without VSS) - how it will be on the many links between UCS and two boxes C6500? It will be blocked by STP? A little on the other?

Please explain to me, because we have only C6500 switches in our data center and want to test a Cisco UCS schassis.

Yes, you can connect the 6120 s to cat6500s with or without vs. With VSS, you get a vPC as port channel where 2 links to a single 6120 can be connected to different 2 6500 s in a port LACP-channel.

VSS is not necessary, you can connect a 10 G uplinks / 1 G of 1 or more of a 6120 at cat6500s. I you have 2 cat6500s (non - vss) and 2 uplinks by 6120, then you want to connect 1 cat6500-1 and the other to cat6500-2. I would recommend going ahead and creating a single port-channel port so that you can easily add the uplinks in the furture without interruption of service.

    Ideally, for non - vss, I would have 4 10 uplinks by 6120; 2 in a channel port cat6500-1 and 2 in a port in cat6500-2 channel

  • Cisco UCS-C210 M1 accredited for Unified Communications server

    Hello:

Our VAR tells us that HP and Cisco are splitting up.  We are an HP store today and 7800-H series MCS routers were a perfect fit.  Our VAR tells us now that he must go with the renamed IBM systems.  BUT I would avoid the IBM servers.  And attractive servers Cisco.  But I have been unable to determine if the Cisco UCS-C210 M1 server is certified for various applications of Unified Communications (Manager of Communications, unity, Cisco Emergency Responder, ICM, CVP, etc.).

Has anyone heard of Communications deployments unified on the hardware of the UCS?

    Thank you

    Ken

UCS blades are being qualified for management of the applications of the CPU now. The qualification of rack mount server is expected, specifically the C210 later this summar I think.
