14.04 Ubuntu freeze on HP 470

Hello

A few months ago I bought a brand new 470 HP (i5 - 3230 M, 8 GB, 750 GB, AMD 8750 M 2 GB) with SUSE Linux operating system. I erased everything and installed Ubuntu 64-bit (this time again, Alpha version) 14.04. I quickly noticed the random freezes (= screen remained as it is, no mouse, nothing) to a hard button works off (power 5-sec). I thought it was a matter of Alpha but nothing improved with updates. Now, 14.04 Ubuntu LTS, officially put at more than a month and I still feel these gels. They occur always; Maybe 5 minutes or 2 hours after the start.

I suspect that the graphics card from ATI. I installed the beta version of the latest drivers (from end of April). They are officially supported Ubuntu LTS 12.04.4 and 13.10 but he had people on the forum saying it installs on the 14.04. I risked and managed. But... freezes is still there.

Anyone having this problem?

I'm OK to use Ubuntu to 10.04 version (if that solved the problem). It maye be bound to the version of the kernel.

I don't want to use any version of Windows. I would sell instead of the laptop, if Windows is a solution.

Thank you.

The problem is resolved. This is the hardware problem not the o/s. HP confirmed the end user can install any operating system, but it will get technical support for pre-installed.

    As the said line topic. I've updated the BIOS on our NB100 to 1.90 in Windows XP, and now Linux (ubuntu) freezes on login. We organize one machine dual boot and WXP still works fine. Ubuntu freezes completely when you open a session and full charge of gui.

    I suspect that the network hardware is the issue.

    Perhaps a BIOS setting was handed to the default or changed.

  • Firefox slowing down to stop (for > 1.5 min) to load the site and freezes any Ubuntu 11.10, modern system.

    Hi guys,.

       I have been using Ubuntu 11.10 since it was beta with no problems. I have been regularly updating everything, and keep a clean track with sudo apt-get autoremove and sudo apt-get clean. Even with all updates, firefox was running completely fine until just last week. If an update came out in the last month, that may be it. My updates are up to the month at least.
       As soon as I open firefox, it pretends to load, before freezing (and turning gray). At that point, my entire system hangs. I have updated everything. I have apt-get remove firefox'ed, apt-get autoremove/clean, then apt-get install firefox'd. I have started in firefox -safe-mode with all options checked. I have, of course, rebooted several times. I have run firefox without, then after deleting every, add-on. I have even searched for log files in .mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports, but found none (a bunch of tmp and extra files). I've tried starting firefox under Ubuntu classic instead of Unity. These are all my online searches have found.
       I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 on Intel i7-960 in an Intel DX58SO2 with 8gb mem, and EVGA superclocked pci-express video adapter. nvidia is properly configured. No other program at all hangs but firefox, which is why I'm here and not in the Ubuntu forums.
       Thank you for your help.

    I followed the advice of one of the posts
    here , to rename the folder .mozilla and it worked. I would like to add, however, that it's very embarrassing and all your custom settings and bookmarks and Favorites etc. will be wiped. I would like to know what causes this, and my satisfaction with firefox is declining.

  • Client computers freeze momentarily but regularly - 14.10 Ubuntu x 64 host, Linux and Windows clients

    Hello.  I use Workstation for many, many years, so I would say I have my set reasonable expectations.

    My main desktop computer:

    -Processor Intel i7 (4950 I think), memory of 16G, Samsung 850 SSD Pro, operating system Ubuntu x 64 VMWare Workstation 11.1 14.10

    It works really well, but my client machines, be it Windows 7 business or Ubuntu LTS 14.04 frequently "stutter" in use.  When the stuttering happens, the host machine is relatively high projection of CPU on vmware-vmx, 15 or 20 according to 'top '.  Stuttering can happen every minute or two, perhaps 5 to 10 seconds at a time.  It's boring, but when I use the CAD software in the computer of the customer it is downright dangerous as shortcut keys get failed, partially or entirely, and usually bad things come.

    I can watch or try to stop this stuttering?

    Thank you!

    I'll call this resolved - finally.  I thought I was going to have to continue to use Virtual Box forever - a sad perspective.  This problem has persisted in 12 Pro Version as well.

    I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem - especially when its the password on both machines - 2 for 2.  In fact I found someone else having this problem:

  • Last Firefox 15.0 freezes solid Ubuntu!

    Today updated Firefox updated to version 15.0. Immediately, it froze my system Ubuntu 11.10 solid. I have a Core 2 duo and 2Gib RAM and everything is fast. All previous versions worked flawlessly. I can reproduce the problem every time. All I have to do is reboot, then open Firefox and BAM! Strong gel.

    epicoder, thanks for your response. I completely uninstalled Ubuntu's Firefox version. I installed the latest version directly from the ftp site and it seems to work well, even with my addons. Somehow botched Ubuntu Firefox, what a shock. I'm going now to inform them of the issue. Once again, thank you!

  • Keyboard freezes after Suspend in Ubuntu 16.04 on Satellite S-50 d-A-10F

    Hello

    I use a Toshiba Satellite S-50 d-A-10F with Ubuntu 16.04. Every time the laptop wakes from sleep mode, the keyboard no longer works. A reboot is required to restart.

    I searched on the Ubuntu Forums, and it seems that the problem is related to the keyboard driver, but I was not able to find a Linux driver for this model.

    Is there a solution to this problem, or computers notebooks Toshiba are not compatible with Linux?

    Thank you

    Murray

    I'd be curious to know what state 16.04 Ubuntu is awakening to. It is after you have closed the lid of the laptop or after the black screen after a long period of inactivity? I guess that once you start Ubuntu, the keyboard works correctly. If so, the software that surrounds the keyboard probably working properly. The mouse work after suspension?

    I saw messages emphasizing that, in some cases, automatic keyboard detection does not take place after resumption of a suspension. Although I would have thought that Ubuntu 16.04 took care of that, useful search words can be resume autodetect keyboard.

  • Latitude 3550: Touchpad freezes the display on Ubuntu 14.04

    I regularly get a frozen view by pointing and clicking using the touchpad. Mouse and keyboard are no longer available. I can unlock it easily using Ctrl-Alt-F2 and then again with Ctrl-Alt-F7 and continue to work like nothing happened.

    In addition, the mouse pointer jump unexpectedly at the edge of the screen from time to time.

    It happened yet when you use an external USB mouse. I have not installed the drivers from DELL for ubuntu and it seems that the grains do not match and I'm hesitant (I 3.13.0 - 24 but I have 3.13.0 - 73).

    The installation of ubuntu was made from a USB on a Latitude with Windows 7 preinstalled. Windows were shattered and Ubuntu is the only OS on the drive.

  • VMware Ubuntu 11.10 8 install fails - no keyboard entry and freeze

    This question is a result of a problem I posted on 31/01/2012... I posted at the beginning I had a problem with the file locking, but that could be a result of my duty to kill VMware with the Task Manager Windows and lck files/directories were pending next time I tried to run. I used to work Ubuntu 11.10 very well, but now the original installation and a new facility blocks the VMware host, seeming to wait on keyboard input.

    If I run the virtual XP 64 machine, it works fine. If I try to launch the 11 Ubuntu, VMware virtual machine crashes. If I'm in this state the XP 64 VM will not run and hangs also.

    The newspaper and a screenshot of the condition in that vmwaree is locked is attached. Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

  • Comments Windows XP keyboard freezes under heavy current hit on Ubuntu host

    Hello

    I am running a facility otherwise without problem with a host of Ubuntu 8.10 and a guest of Windows XP SP2 (VMware tools) in Workstation 6.5.1 build-126130 installed.

    The problem is this: occasionally (usually when I do a lot of typing) the guest OS stops accepting entries to the keyboard. As he does, he takes the last 20-30 keys (the buffer of some keyboard somewhere?) and repeat them several times, so I find myself with a few lines of what I just typed. After that, the customer will not accept any keyboard input, including the "send Ctrl-Alt-Del" command in the VM Worstation menu. Mouse input, however, is not affected by this (still works very well).

    The only way to get the comments to replay the keyboard is to restart the guest operating system (which fortunately can be made with the mouse). I tried to suspend/resume the guest and the opening/closing workstation - no effect. I also tried to vary the amount of RAM in the prompt to rule out a problem of low resources - no effect. This does not affect the keyboard in the home... everything is normal.

    Any ideas on where this problem is perhaps or anything else to try?

    P.S. I've specified manually the next keyboard map in ~/.vmware/config to move other keyboard problems:

    xkeymap.keycode.108 = 0 x 138 # Alt_R

    xkeymap.keycode.106 = 0 x 135 # KP_Divide

    xkeymap.keycode.104 = 0x11c # KP_Enter

    xkeymap.keycode.111 = 0 x 148 # Up

    xkeymap.keycode.116 = 0 x 150 # down

    xkeymap.keycode.113 = 0x14b # left

    xkeymap.keycode.114 = 0x14d # right

    xkeymap.keycode.105 = 0x11d # Control_R

    xkeymap.keycode.118 = 0 x 152 # Insert

    xkeymap.keycode.119 = 0 x 153 # Delete

    xkeymap.keycode.110 = 0 x 147 # home

    xkeymap.keycode.115 = 0x14f # end

    xkeymap.keycode.112 = 0 x 149 # before

    xkeymap.keycode.117 = 0 x 151 # next

    xkeymap.keycode.78 = 0 x 46 # Scroll_Lock

    xkeymap.keycode.127 = 0 x 100 # Pause

    xkeymap.keycode.133 = 0x15b # Meta_L

    xkeymap.keycode.134 = 0x15c # Meta_R

    xkeymap.keycode.135 = 0x15d # Menu

    Running a vCPU 2 comments on a 2 Core comments can cause resource contention problems.  Try to change your prompt to run a single vCPU to see if that helps.

    If this isn't the case, please attach the .vmx file and vmware.log since the directory containing your comments and we'll take a look.

  • VMWare Player freezes my ubuntu all 14.04

    I use VMWare player to run a Windows 7 comment system, and after a while, my whole system crashes, so I have to turn off my computer at hand.

    It happens all the time, sometimes sooner or later.

    The _usr_bin_signon - ui.1000.crash.zip you have attached shows that the signon-ui process failed when the function malloc detected that its data structures had been corrupted, and there is nothing in this process which makes use of any VMware components.  I'm not aware of any Player 6.0.4 defects that can cause corruption of the memory of this nature.

    My first guess would be that you have a hardware problem.  Please run the system diagnostics to ensure that your memory and processors are reliable.  My usual day to this end is the free Memtest86 +, even if it's been a few years that I've tried...

  • The functionality of tiles is freezing Firefox whenever I open a new tab. He says that I can turn it off but it freezes and I can't. In general, I have to restart. Help!

    Using Ubuntu Firefox Version 39. Just upgraded and it has a new feature of TILES that appears when I try to do a 'new tab', how it freezes the system. He tells me that I can turn it off by clicking on a symbol that at one point I was able to click on it but was not able to find what it was that I should turn off. Is there another way to disable this feature struck dead, since I can't use Firefox at all in these circumstances. Help, please. Thank you (cannot share data because it comes from another computer)

    Before I got this response, I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled. I went through the center of software this time instead of doing manually. Luckily it kept all my settings and is now works better than ever. Recommend doing this if you have the same problem. Thank you for your help.

  • How can I automatically run anti-virus for files downloaded from Firefox on Linux (Ubuntu)?

    Double I start my computer with Windows 7 and sometimes download EXEs under Linux to use under Windows. I tried to use Fireclam but this addon freezes the browser for a few seconds each time a download is finished. I have also tried to play with automatic stop, but he couldn't understand. I wonder if there is another automated and faster way to scan downloaded files. I have Avast installed on Ubuntu already, is it possible that I can call from Firefox whenever a download is complete?

    EDIT: After some research more, I came across this:
    https://Bugzilla.Mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427258
    https://mail.Mozilla.org/pipermail/Firefox-dev/2013-August/000848.html

    I did not know that the feature has been removed in fact completely from Firefox last year, I guess that I was not paying much attention to what is happening in the history of downloads even in Windows. Looks like I'll have to analyze manually before using files anyway.

    Some antivirus programs will be automaticlly analyze downloaded files.

  • Satellite L505D-S5986 - trouble installing Ubuntu using live CD/USB

    Hello everyone I need to all emergency assistance and the ubuntu community.

    I am a passionate user of Ubuntu, and I used it for a year. My old laptop got crashed when I flashed the bios.
    Now, I bought a laptop TOSHIBA L505d-S5986 which has amd athlon 2 dual core M300 processor and an ATI Radon 4100 video card.

    I had enormous difficulties to install ubuntu when I put cd/usb live that it took a long time to start and when he got this gel inside the BONE.
    Then I tried fedora but even this work force well he got in the same problem freeze!

    I searched and found that its due to the acpi:lnxvideo error:' exit unexpectedly with a status of 0 x 0009.
    This has also given in this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1301101

    Then I put the acpi = off in the grub boot menu and then added to the gconf and now ubuntu works. But the system monitor shows a processor to use (again due to disabling acpi I guess) and of course when I remove her dosent Ubuntu power dim screen and dosent show no sign of the battery.

    All the guys and linux developers please post a solution for this equipment module.

    Waiting for your answers

    Thank you

    I hate Vista. It freezes and mess. It's Horrible!
