If so, the key will be in the electronic invoice that you received when you purchased the upgrade. Make copies and keep it somewhere safe. If your new computer came with win 8, you don't need a key.   It depends on the motherboard that has been used to replace the original.  In the order of things, Windows 8, the license key OEM is integrated in the BIOS, so assuming that the key is trying to activate with this new motherboard, that's why it won't work.  You are then left with a choice, either get a key retail for Windows 8.1 or use a different Windows.  You can load up to 10 Windows and then use it after the liberation.

  Option 1:
