  You can buy 2 of them if you want but by adding 1 to the existing module also work very well and provides all the performance that the laptop is able to give as much as memory.

  Alternatively, you can install a 2.5-inch SATA SSD instead of hard drive. Let us know if you need help with reinstalling the software. With 10 already installed Windows, you can easily download a restore disc directly from Microsoft to at least get reinstalled OS on the SSD.

  I think that only 6 GB are possible because 2 GB of RAM are on board.
  And only the second slot would be extensible using a 4 GB RAM module.

  The NB550D supports up to 4 GB of memory, not only 2 GB as mentioned by Toshiba in their specifications.
  Upgrade memory to 2 GB is _only limited_ by the pre installed Windows 7 Starter OS, and not by the netbook itself.

  I use Linux Mint 11 Katya, 64-bit and my system works perfectly well with a 4 GB ram module. If you want to use the full support for 4 GB ram, get rid of the Win 7 Starter operating system.

  Specifications for more memory ram volume are DDR3 1333 MHz PC3-10600 SO-Dimm. I chose a 4 GB of Corsair module, because of the guarantee of 30 years of offers from Corsair.

  It took me a while to find this out hope, that this will be a help to all those who are just as secure as I was how to upgrade memory NB550D. Good luck. (o).

  Also it of important to mention than the 32-bit systems (not serious if its Linux or Windows) would recognize only 3.2 GB since it is a limitation of 32-bit
  So to use all of the 4 GB RAM 64-bit system is required.

  FWIW, I have a HP Envy 14 "1015 M4 - dx. He is currently using 8 GB of RAM. After my last OS Win8 updates, as I leave messages memory when Eset is scanning run. The operating system is not free memory when the scan finished. I have to restart to retrieve resources.

  I tried the above memory. It installs successfully but when I try to start I never any indication that the system works. All that happens is that the LED caps lock flashes rhythmically. In my view, that it is an indication of system hardware error.

  The same behavior occurs with F.03 and F.18 BIOS versions.

  The same behavior multibordure with 1 (16 GB) and 2 sticks of memory (32GB) installed.

  I looked at the smart memory products. They do not have something that sounds compatible with this system. They claim that their products will work in any family system of the 5th generation of CPU. I don't believe that. IMO, the correct wording is that memory can work, not that it will work.   In all cases, the 1015dx uses a processor of generation 3.

  I ' v has my M3910 i3 540 3.07 GHz for awhile now and I'm very happy with it as a day to day PC, but for some time I get regular crashes and intend to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch. I would like a little more speed so will install SSD and more RAM (3 GB for the moment), but the specs on the RAM available on the web are confusing. I got a 8 GB compatible key available, but it froze the Acer splash screen. I want 16 GB (called max) but settle for 8GB.

  Is the limit of RAM per slot 2GB, as argued in the specifications, or I can get 4 GB in each of the 4 slots? Crucial is indicating it takes 1600 RAM, but the specifications say 1333? FYI, my serial number starts: [under the direction of privacy]
