159 - PIN MODE Satellite M70 - your suggestions

Hello

In time, I would try the PIN MODE (forcing a FSB of 133 MHz processor that works with 100 MHz and constant ratio FSB = 17) in my Toshiba laptop.
I buy on auction Pentium M 1.7 GHz/2 MB/400 Mhz processor.
Please don't tell me that the processor will be overheating I saw the two datasheet (my current processor pentium M750 and pentium M735) and first issue 27W and second 21W.
I calculate that if I change the FSB the emit of heat will be about ewen Pentium M750.

You have experience with this method of overclocking... ?

You won't believe me, but I have the same laptop model and I am very interested to hear how you do it. What application you want to use to change the FSB?

I agree with you on the CPU overheating. In my opinion of the processor the overheating is not possible because thermal management works on CPU and if the CPU will be extremely hot operations speed goes down.

Overclocking is very interesting and not so much discussed topic on this forum.
I'm really curious to know if other people have positive experiences with this kind of things.

To be honest overclocking can be dangerous (property damage) and risky. Be careful with this.

  • Satellite M70 - 159-> update bios-> DVD ROM missing

    Hello
    I have the Satellite M70-159, PSM71E
I made the big mistake, please help and suggestions are welcome.

    History:
I installed Windows XP home sp2
A few days ago I tried to update my hardware drivers (last attempt was a few years ago) and the BIOS too.
So, first of all, I decided to update the bios of 1.30 to 1.50
-bios150win has been downloaded and install completely and it works very well. But since then, that my laptop doesn't see DVD - ROM - it disappeared at all.
WindowsXP says - no CD/DVD-ROM in your stack of material, and I can't boot from bootable CD/DVD drive.

I tried to downgrade the BIOS to 1.30 but the f * ng tool shows me a message that I have more new bios and I do not need to downgrade.
Hey! Toshiba! Please, give me a chance! Just remove your Bios update a few lines of code! Do not check the version of the bios.

PPL! Please help. Because now I can't reinstall OS, I can't burn, I can't get my data, I can't do anything.

    Thank you

Thanks for the info, but could you please post how you solved this?

  • Re: upgrade memory Satellite M70-159

I have the Satellite m70-159 with 512 RAM and you want to upgrade memory.
Is ddr2 sdram so-dimm PC5300, 667 Mhz kingston 1 G memory compatible with my laptop?
I know that this memory will run as PC4200, but I don't know where to buy PC4200.
    Thank you.

The Satellite M70 can be upgraded to 2 GB of RAM.

The Kingston RAM must be compatible with your laptop because Kingston's high-quality RAM and many users here upgraded with modules from Kingston.
And as you say that the RAM will work as long as PC4200, it is not a problem.

    Hello

How did you create the partition, and you have created the partition for the use of Linux?
The fact is that you cannot use a similar kind of partition for the Windows operating system.

PS: Unfortunately, Toshiba doesn't support the Linux operating system and you will find all the drivers Toshiba for this OS.

  • What USB port output power offers Satellite M70-159

    Hello!

    I have a Satellite M70-159 and I am looking to buy a 2.5 external HARD drive ".
I would like to know if the power supplied by the USB port of my laptop is 500mA or 1000mA because the disc external HARD I want to buy needs 1000mA to work.

Eitherwise what I can do to provide external power to work HARD disk?

    Thank you

    Hello

To my knowledge the notebooks USB ports provides the standard power of 500 my.
Generally if an external USB HDD what needs more than 500mA so special, the power cable external power is supplied with version 2.5, HARD drive or HARD drive comes with a double USB cable.
I hear double cable USB cable that supports 2 USB Sockets. In this case, you can connect the HARD drive to two USB ports.

  • Satellite M70-151 - how to upgrade the display driver?

    Hello

as the topic says I ran out of options to update my graphics card Radeon X 700 on my laptop...

I tried to see here: http://de.nodevice.com/driver/Mobility_Radeon_X700/get44199.html
After installation, I learned that he had to go on the manufacturer's site to get my drivers

So I ended up here: http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=DE
Still no idea who was the Radeon X 700 driver, I tried every update... Most did not anyway, and when I check my graphics card driver put in says that my current driver was 5 years old.

Taking advantage of the distraction of the online games I noticed that went it a few seconds sometimes. Most people recommend that you update all my drivers, but it seems more difficult than I imagined

So please, help me find the right link to update my graphics card! To help speed things up a bit, I added my DxDiag report.

    Thanks for your help

/ Edit: addition of the DxDiag total was not possible due to "inappropriate language"... O.o

    Hi Sarahbella,

You can download the driver on the Toshiba site. Therefore, check the link you suggested and look for your model of laptop. As far as I know Satellite M70 151 belongs to the series of PSM71E, to look for with these elements:

    Laptop > Satellite > Satellite M Series > Satellite M70 (PSM71)

Download the driver and run the setup.exe file.

    Check this box!

  • Display problems on Satellite M70

I use 70 M Satellite laptop, purchased approximately more than a year back and really like it (M70 Pentium, 512 MB Ram, 40 GB HD). So far, it has been without major problems.

The only problem now is that a few times the screen for a second or a fraction of a second. It happens randomly, once or twice a day and flicker is more prmonant in the lower part of the screen. Seems a minor problem but it bugs me because I think that it is too early for a laptop show such a question and it can change over time. What do you think of him? Is this a problem with the chip graphic (it has Mobile Intel 915 GM), card mother or any other material? Doesn't seem to be a problem of software for me.

BTW I saw these flutter in two other laptops from Toshiba not with my friends, but in their case it was more frequent and prominent and the entire screen will be flutter and shake for a second / or a fraction of a second, a feeling very, very unpleasant.

My problem is that I can't even show it to a tech because I don't know how I can reproduce this floating to show him, that happens only rarely and randomly.

I want to say to two other minor problems with M70 as well:

I put in the power settings, the screen to turn off after 5 minutes and the laptop to be on standby after 10 minutes. When the screen is off and the laptop still did not in standby mode, the normal behavior of the screen is to be ON if you press the touch key (or mouse). I noticed that sometimes the screen will become not THE same to touch the mousepad, totally, it fails to do so. Obviously I can not access the windows logoff / restart at this time that the screen is OFF. Then I'll just close the lid (which puts the laptop into hibernation), and reopen it to make it again, the screen will become ON this time. I do not reset to prevent my current loss of data at the time of the power.
I noticed this problem early, after I bought it. He rarely goes well (once / twice a month). Everything has noticed this problem?

Another issue that happens too rarely (once in a month or two): sometimes while working with laptop, all of a sudden s computer screen laptop will become lemon green, light blue (not BSOD) or pearly white or another color like that. Yet once of course I can't access the windows logoff / restart at this time here, so I'll just close the lid (which puts the laptop into hibernation) and then reopen the lid to make laptop ON again; the screen will become generally Ok this time. I try not to be able to reset here also to prevent my loss of current data at that time here.
This issue has been there too since from the beginning.

All these comments make me think that there is a problem with my Toshiba of day 1, probably the graphics? Think you and advice on this subject?

Really, I'm going to be reluctant to buy a Toshiba next time because of these problems.

    Hello aiglehawk

I read your announcement with a lot of attention because I have Satellite M70-159 almost a year now and it's always very interesting to see what other M70 owners report on this model of laptop.

Unfortunately here in the forum is not possible to give you an accurate diagnosis, but I just want to write my comment on your ad. Perhaps of strange sounds, but I'll start with your last sentence:

    > Really, I'll be reluctant to buy a Toshiba next time because of these problems.

In my opinion, this sentence is absolutely superfluous and I'm sure you'll write the same thing if you had any other non-Toshiba laptop. I understand you, but you know very well that if BMW produce 100 cars it can always happen that 5 of them have a fault.

Believe me, that my Satellite M70 is almost permanent (day and night). I get it from the company where I work and I don't like at all on this subject. It runs and. I tried all the stuff you wrote in your ad and it works perfectly. Energy-saving all settings, I changed several times and I have never noticed something similar.

Yes you're right about the service. I think that you can't reproduce it, but I'm sure you know very well the technician have different tools of diagnosis for the verification of the material. With the help of these tools they may know if some hardware component is defective or not.

Because of this I recommend you contact the service. They check your laptop. The warranty is still valid?

In the end, I will also say that I love my M70 and I am very happy to have. But as next laptop I would like to have some monster like Qosmio laptops.

Good luck my friend and please let me know the results of the service.

  • Satellite M70 needing an upgrade of RAM?

    Hi all

    I have a Satellite M70 who suffers.
It's all slow and despite my music collection among other major programs to transfer on a drive external HARD, my laptop frequently slows down and blocks much to my annoyance.

I regularly have a frag my HD on a base twice a week which helps a little, and I delete the temporary files, the Recycle Bin as well at the end of each month, but nothing seems to speed it up significantly. I run Spyware Doctor, but he does not reveal anything that would explain such a slow performance.

Could someone advise me what to do?
I asked for advice in this regard other suggestions is considering upgrading the RAM in an attempt to speed it up.

    Kind regards

    WMorgan86

    Hello

In your case I would check and start the MSCONFIG and would disable some background process is not necessary in the Start button.

The upgrade of RAM would be useful too.
The M70 would support max 2 GB of RAM and you need DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM modules!

Instruction how to upgrade the RAM you will find in the user manual!

    Good bye

  • Satellite M70 164 - screen freezes and goes black, overheating

    Hello world! :)

Recently my Satellite m70-164 started to freeze after only a few minutes of work. The picture on the screen freezes, and a few seconds later, it becomes completely black.
The computer doesn't even have time to warm up, and it's not stop... It's just the screen that freezes and becomes so black. I have to reset the computer by pressing the power button. (I write from another computer).

I noticed that working time reduced whenever I have reset the computer and after some time it freezes even though I am in the BIOS settings, so I don't think it's an OS problem.
Even if the computer does not have time to warm up, this suggests it might be a heat problem.
So I tried pointing a fan this is low (a big, like the ones we use in the summer), and it works without problem!

With the fan facing these, I reinstalled Windows - so no Virus.
Laptop fan * not * continue to operate as it is overheating.
The fan runs and it is not clogged as I've cleaned.

So if anyone has the same problem, or ideas, please respond!
    (And sorry for my English)
    Thanks in advance! : D

    Hey Buddy,

I agree with you. In this case, even in the BIOS, that it has nothing to do with Windows or a Virus. In this case, it seems to be a hardware malfunction

But before contacting an authorized service provider to diagnose what part is the cause, clean your laptop using a jet of compressed air. This should be done from time to time (every 4 months) and, therefore, it of not necessary to disassemble the laptop.

    Check this box!

  • Satellite M70-151 - not possible to install new HDD

    Hello

I have a problem with my Satellite M70-151. bunch of old hard drive (100 GB Hitachi) reached the Windows XP screen then just ends with a blue screen a turn off laptop, immediately. I had to restore my data with an application file-rescue of another PC. It was not possible to start from old hard drive yet.

Then I bought a Western Digital SATA II 250 GB hard drive that put my Windows XP CD in DVD player installed and tried to start. The laptop turns off as soon as the laptop computer tried to access the HARD disk.
Thought, it was question of SATA II disk and tried a Samsung 160 GB Sata I - same result.

    BIOS recognizes the correct drives.

If I try to boot from old hard drive, it shows the issue I mentioned first, but as before it reaches the Windows XP Boot screen before moving on to the blue screen before turning off the laptop. So start goes further than the boot with new hard drives

The Windows XP CD I used is not the restore CD that came with the laptop, but a normal license.

The heat is not a problem, I cleaned the CPU fan there is enough space to breathe the cold air mobile, the temperature is ok.

    * My questions are: *.

Is there any special application running on laptops satellite, like special software of Toshiba, perhaps Backup, should I be aware of?
What I need to preformat the hard drive, Toshiba-Hardware will recognize the hard drive?

It would be great to get help on this issue, because I'm out of ideas. Thanks in advance!

    André

    Hello Andrew

This behavior is very strange. I have some old Satellite M70-159 with 100 GB HARD drive. I also tested how it will work with a 250 GB HARD drive and all is well.
On two drives, I have installed WXP using the Toshiba recovery image.

I answer your two questions No. to install Windows XP Home edition on this model of laptop you don't need some special Toshiba application or a piece of software.
HDD should be recognized correctly by the BIOS and the Windows XP Home edition installation procedure should work well.
What you can try is to set the BIOS to the default settings and try again.

The strange thing for me is that judgment. The blue screen tells me that there may be some serious hardware problem, the HARD drive controller might be. It's really not easy to say with certainty what can be the problem.

  • Satellite M70-239 - problems with brightness adjustment

    Hello

I ve got this laptop from my father after I buyed a new. Actually everything´s with him very well. But one thing is a little strange, I think.
My old laptop and other portable that I had before, has the ability to control things like the brightness of the screen when you connect to load automatically. So not for this one. Nothing happens.

Windows doesn´t also shows the remaining battery life expectancy and other things like that. These functions are not supported by this guy? I ve installed the latest bios version 1.70, which is available on the official website and I m using Windows XP.

Someone at - it the same problem and is there a solution for this? Maybe you can help me.

    welcome them

    Hello

Satellite M70 was delivered with Windows XP edition family, and Windows XP Home typical configuration. I imagine that you have installed all Toshiba tools and utilities, so it must there also have preinstalled Toshiba Power saver.

He yiou can see profiles of different powers and each of them can be configured separately. Thus, when the laptop is connected to power notebook AC power will be the mode full power. There you can set LCD brightness to the maximum level.
When the laptop is on battery will then serve others power plan. Compare the settings in two power modes and choose your preferred settings.

Brightness level can also be changed with the key FN + F6/F7 combination.
Of course, this will works if all Toshiba tools and utilities are preinstalled.

  • Satellite M70-340 battery not charging

I had a problem with a Toshiba Satellite M70 - 340 portable hard drive, but everything else worked perfectly, and it was possible to operate on battery power. So I sent it to a maintenance shop where they changed the hard drive and installed a fresh new copy of Windows XP. Once I got it I found that I am not able to turn it back on, except when it is connected to electricity and after a little or looking around, I found out that the battery is not.

In addition to this, when I plug first laptop for electricity while it is turned off, the yellow/orange battery LED lights only for like 3 seconds. And even if it is activated, the led is still off, and the the battery icon on the status bar indicates that the laptop works on AC and does not say that the battery charge, he repeats to me 1%.

I also tried leaving it plugged to AC while it is off, hoping he can recharge, but I bite the dust.

So what would cause the battery won't charge if from one day to another (and just by changing the HARD drive and install a fresh copy of windows XP), the battery has stopped working?

And I was just wondering is an update of the BIOS or your driver fix? I want to say a battery need some kind of driver or software to run?

    Thank you

    Hello Zaher

I have Satellite M70-159 and issue described is not known to me. If you are sure that this strange issue started after get it back you with 100% service I recommend you speak again with technicians.

Behavior described is not really normal. As much I know BIOS update or drivers have no influence on it and to me it sounds like a malfunction of the equipment.

BTW: remove the battery, connect the laptop to the power adapter and start Notepad. When the operating system starts correctly, wait a few minutes and put the battery in the laptop. Please let know us what happens when you do this.

  • Satellite M70-173: spontaneous reboots

I have a M70-173 that restarts spontaneously. It is under XP Home SP3 and has all updates applied.

Reboots are more common at certain times than others, but the only clue that I have on the cause, it's that they seem to be more frequent when I have the wireless network card.

I realize that it is much much to go, but everyone has ideas about what could happen?

    TIA

I have Satellite M70-159 almost two years now and it works like the first day. No reboot and some strange questions. I always use SP2 and do not want to install SP3. After reading some comments here, I don't want to have a few problems with OS well running.

What exactly happens? Laptop switches OFF and you need to start it again or laptop restarts as after reboot of the choice of option?
Is there any message or something? An application that runs in the background is possibly responsible for this.

If possible, install your laptop with the recovery image and see if the problem recurs. Sorry, but it is not possible to say with certainty why this happen. We can only speculate, here. All we have own OS configuration and use favorite applications, freeware and shareware applications. Many of them are not so good and everything is possible.

  • Satellite M70 - cooling fan does not start

    Hello.

I recently got a little work Satellite M70 - CL1 to a friend. Everything works, but the cooling system is malfunctioning. Fan made ramp-up at the start, but then it does nothing. I tried the XP system installed inside, and ubuntu 10.10 does not seem that the fan is running. My friend said the fan strikes, but at the moment he does, too little too late and the system freezes due to overheating. He managed to stay alive for 20 minutes on his own cooling power.

Any suggestions on what's wrong? Maybe it's the temperature probe that is defective?

    Hey,.

Of course, it's not always easy to tell what the exact reason is on this virtual path but probably dust blocks the cooling fans and so it may start t and the laptop is overheating.

Clean the fan and the heat sink is not very complicated, because you can use the jet of compressed air to blow the dust from the cooling fans. Everything is described in this very useful Toshiba article on cleaning of your laptop:
[How to clean a Toshiba laptop cooling system? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=40]
