Satellite M70-173: spontaneous reboots

I have a M70-173 that restarts spontaneously. It is under XP Home SP3 and has all updates applied.

Reboots are more common at certain times than others, but the only clue that I have on the cause, it's that they seem to be more frequent when I have the wireless network card.

I realize that it is much much to go, but everyone has ideas about what could happen?

TIA

I have Satellite M70-159 almost two years now and it works like the first day. No reboot and some strange questions. I always use SP2 and do not want to install SP3. After reading some comments here, I don't want to have a few problems with OS well running.

What exactly happens? Laptop switches OFF and you need to start it again or laptop restarts as after reboot of the choice of option?
Is there any message or something? An application that runs in the background is possibly responsible for this.

If possible, install your laptop with the recovery image and see if the problem recurs. Sorry, but it is not possible to say with certainty why this happen. We can only speculate, here. All we have own OS configuration and use favorite applications, freeware and shareware applications. Many of them are not so good and everything is possible.

How do you do if you can't turn on the laptop?

What you could do is to remove the HARD drive, then place it into the drive enclosure HARD 2.5 external, then connect the HARD drive to another computer, to save the data.

  • I forgot the password of BIOS Satellite M70-173

Satellite M70-173 - I forgot the BIOS password. What can or what should I do?
    Thanks for help or advice.

    HI Kohorta,

There are few things you can do if you have forgotten your BIOS password. The only effective way to reset it is to take the appliance to your nearest authorised Service partner who has the necessary equipment for re-flashing your BIOS chip. They generally must prove you your ship-owner of the laptop before it will change.

You can find various utilities listed on some websites and also some means to bypass the BIOS password, but they are absolutely not guaranteed to work on most modern laptops.

  • Installing Win7 on Satellite M70-173 - query of wireless internet

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite M70-173, which I think to be up-to-date with windows 7. However after you run the windows 7 Advisor, he told me to download the driver of the wireless device that is:

    Intel (R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection

I put t really know what it is? Is my wireless 'card '?
In any case, I check on the Intel site for the updated drivers for win7, and he says:

    "Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection does not support Microsoft Windows * 7.

Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection is no longer manufactured by Intel, nor Intel provide any future software updates to support new operating systems or improve compatibility with devices and third-party software products. "

Does this mean that I should not install Windows 7?

How can I work around this problem, do need me to upgrade and how much would this cost?
    Thank you

Satellite or Equium M70 is old model of laptop computer designed for Windows XP Home edition, so it is certainly not taken in charge for Win7. It is certainly possible to install Win7 on this laptop, but you will not be able to make it work with all the options that are specific to Toshiba.

Yes it's the wireless card if this card doesn t work for lack of best drivers and the best option for you is to buy the wireless USB dongle. Ask your dealer how local it costs. As far as I know that's not expensive.

  • Satellite M70-173: cannot install XP Pro

I wonder if someone can help me. Recently, I bought the laptop Satellite M70-173. My problem is that it comes with XP Home. I need XP Pro. I bought XP Pro, but when I try and boot from the Disc... the drivers are starting to load up and then it freezes.

To restart, the only is to unplug the power and remove the batery. I checked the disc on another laptop as a test and it works. Any ideas? One eventually is to create a windows startup disk and format? But is not a floppy drive. Many tried to copy the boot to a cd disk but does not drive. Any help would be appreciated

    Hello

As far as I know that the Intel SATA AHCI Controller driver has been installed on this device.
This driver is required for SATA hard drives. The OS Setup is unable to start without this driver, but then the installation hangs.
On this page of intel for drivers:
    http://support.Intel.com/support/chipsets/IMSM/sb/CS-021701.htm

But the recovery procedure works with the recovery CD?
Have you created a CD of Drivers and tools with the function that has been placed in the assistance of Toshiba?

You should also find this driver very necessary.

  • Satellite M70-173 - cannot burn CDs or DVDs

    Hello

I have an old but expensive laptop (Satellite M70-173). The CD/DVD drive is a carpet * a UJ - 841 s and can currently only read DVDs and CDs
I have Nero installed 8.3.7.1, but it does not allow me to burn any DVD or CD
I have all the updates that are installed for Nero, have also removed the "upper and lower limits" in the registry.

It is not a mark of DVD or CD that I have not yet tried, but they all are coasters.

    I have the following options:

    1. try to set the drive - either with the technical assistance of the forum or replace the disk, so I decided that it is a hardware error

2 buy a new laptop - but also like some advise on how to "clone" of the current notebook that I have so many other programs installed that I bought over the years and do not want to lose.

I made copies pdf of burning errors I can post if necessary.

    Hello!

    > I made copies pdf errors burning I can post if necessary.
    Yes, I think it's a good idea. ;)
Otherwise it of a bit difficult to help you.

But what CDs and DVDs you tried to burn? I have good experiences with Verbatim and TDK. Check it!
And you should burn on a lower speed for CD e. g. 16 x.

  • Problem starting Satellite M70-173

I have a problem with my laptop, since uninstalling Norton Internet security, I had a program to freeze. The only way to stop it was to maintain the power key. Since then, when I turn the machine when starting the machine to start and after about 1 sec no activity. I don't get the start-up of the screen. If I leave the laptop for several hours I can start and after a short period the computer freezes once more and I can't restart. I noticed several people reporting this kind of problem but cannot find any solution. Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

I really wonder what problems people have with laptops. I have Satellite M70-159 over one year and never noticed anything like that.

Operating system is installed with recovery DVDs and the first thing I do after recovering is to remove Norton antivir application. Trust me I did it more than 10 times and never noticed any a? freezinga? questions. I don't know what you're doing, but if I remember well, there are two entries for Norton in Add/Remove programs.

At first remove a? UpdateA Norton Live? and later Norton app itself. Overview you will find under http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB6B01NM000ER01.htm

I don't know where you have founded a? several people reporting this kind of problem? but I can say for sure, it may not happen because of Norton. There must be something else. Maybe you deleted some other tips and startup procedure cannot be done correctly. It's really not easy to say what the problem is here.

I recommend you to install OS using recovery delivered DVDs. When finished remove Norton as described in the document of Toshiba. I hope that everything will be OK again.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite Pro P100 spontaneously reboot during game sessions

Hey, I'm having a recurring problem with my new P100 (5 months). Whenever I try to play some games, usually requiring a configuration relatively high, my phone will just freeze and reboot. The laptop has enough power to play these games, but it freezes and restarts anyway. It doesn't happen instantly, but can occur at any time, I was wondering if there was a reason that I don't give me any error message.

Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I guess you get a BSOD, but you can not read the error message.

Please follow this path and disable automatically restart.

Control Panel System Advanced tab settings in the start menu upwards and the recovery area.
There, you must disable the option automatically restart in the area of system failure.

If this option is disabled if you will be able to read the error message.
Maybe then we can say something more about the error.

However, sometimes the unit may freezes due to the high temperature.
I think the CPU and graphics card works with a maximum yield and produce a lot of heat. Check the cooling module if it works properly.
Don't forget that you have enough space around the laptop because of the circulation air.

  • Problems of heat with Satellite M70-173

    Need some advice.
Have in last few weeks found that all side and sometimes in the middle of the laptop its got very hot to the touch.
Have no idea what could cause this?

    Hi mate,

I think it could be a cooling system that is full of dust. If the cooling system is clogged with dust and then the machine cannot carry enough heat of your machine which has been generated by the processor and graphics card. The result of this could be overheating, software errors and finish hardware malfunction.

So, my advice to you: go to the next radio Shack or electronic market and buy a box with compressed air. Some blowing AIR gently hollow the vents and if dust comes out then you know where the problem is. Just clean the entire cooling system and make sure the cooling system is almost free of dust.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite M70 - after HARD drive partitioned, the OS does not start

    Hello

Good then this is a real doozy, and I hope that someone will help.

I started to fix my satellite m70 girlfriends using the disc of recovery etc, everything went fantastic, the HARD disk has been erased and Windows + all software has been reinstalled.

Then I thought it would be a good idea to use partition magic to partition the hard drive, so I chose the main hard drive and cut 10GB of it to put in place a new partition.

I rebooted, and then after Windows restarted again completed.

NOW, it does not charge, it says no operating system, so I tried to start with the recovery disk and all over again...

If I click on continue (to start the recovery process), however it is said now that the "Error #1828", free space is too small.

I'm really angry that this has happened and I just want to start over again.

Can someone help me with this?
I can't access the Bios either (not sure if that might help), because I don't know the password (must be a fault im not aware of).

    Help, please.

    Thank you
    SG

I think that this is the reason why you used a tool to change the size of the partition. At best, this should be done before you install Windows and 10 GB is a little too small for Windows. You must use at least 15-20 GB for the first partition where the BONE is placed.

To resolve this problem, you must delete all existing partitions before using the recovery disk. Therefore, you can use a Windows XP disk or something else. Just boot from it and delete all partitions. Then the recovery disk should work.

  • Satellite M70-337 - replacement of the main card

Hi, can any 1 tell me. is the K000033860 new Toshiba Satellite M70 computer laptop motherboard
the same TOSHIBA EQUIUM M70-173 card MOTHER K0000333860.

where can I get a list of cards that will fit the Equium m70-337.
    Thank you

I think it's the same thing. As far as I know Satellite M70 was offered with two hardware configurations:
-Satellite M70 with PSM70E part number and Intel graphics card
-Satellite M70 with PSM71E part number and ATI graphic chip

Your laptop must be identical to PSM70E so I m 99.9% sure it's the motherboard even if you can use it.

  • Satellite M70-337 random startup failures

Hello, I hope someone can help with this problem.

In the past months, my Satellite M70-337 (18 months) began to refuse to start. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When that happens, it will be often blue screen, reboot, and then work fine. The BSOD seems to graphics (ialmrnt5) driver-related, so I'm not too concerned about this.

Anyway, more specifically, here's what happens:

I'll turn on the monitor and recharge the battery and the power LED lights up. Then I press the power button and the power led lights up. But the hard drive light does NOT illuminate. The display shows lifeless, and the laptop shows no sign of life other than the three lights. It does not even show the toshiba start screen which normally invites me to press F2 or F12.

I then turn off the laptop by pressing the power button and hold.

I checked the event logs, and it seems that the problem coincides with the date and time being reset to January 1, 2005. So, the problem could be related to a dead CMOS battery? The strange thing is, if I leave the phone off for a week and it will restart with no problem. Yet it can begin to misbehave after be off for 6 hours only. If the CMOS battery need replacement, probably after a week without being able to time could be reset?

And if that's the CMOS battery, why won't the laptop start not at all on a few occasions? I'm confused!

I checked the memory of errors (with MEMTEST) and it is fine. I reinstalled the memory and changed the locations of memory, he is sitting in (while wearing an anti-static bracelet!). No change.

Similarly, I checked the hard drive is in place. Yet once again, it was fine. I scanned using CHKDSK/r, and it turned out to be very good.

    Thus, all the advice, please!

    Thank you

    BAV

    Hello

I do not know how to start so I will try to explain things step by step.

    Regarding the battery CMOS;
If the battery is empty, all the parameters of the BIOS as time, data will be set to the default settings.
But the CMOS battery empty should not has a bad influence on the start-up procedure. Usually, you should get a message to access the BIOS and restore and save the changes. Then the cell phone should start as usual.
If the CMOS battery is empty, you can reload on the laptop for about 12 to 16 hours on the AC adapter / CC.

However, in my opinion the start-up problems have nothing to with the CMOS battery

    Regarding the graphics driver ialmrnt5;
I have goggled a bit and discovered that many people receive a BSOD caused by ialmrnt5.dll
This file seems to belong to the Intel graphics driver.
It would be desirable to delete the old driver Intel of the operating system and install version a new driver from the Intel page support.

But to be honest I don't think that a graphic driver could cause this problem!

I had a similar problem with my laptop 6 year old. He froze, and then it was not possible to restart the laptop. I thought it was an overheating issue. I cleaned my cooling module and assigned and new thermal grease for cooling modules and CPU, but it did not help.
I have checked with the Memtest86 memory but found no problem.
Then I removed ONE of the memory modules that have been installed in the laptop and have tested the BONE for an extended period.

Since then I have not received any errors or other trouble...
In my case it was a defective module!

    Best regards

  • Satellite M70 (PSM71E) Firewire / IEEE 1394 Device number

I recently bought an Iomega eGo 250 GB Portable Hard Drive with USB 2.0 connections and Firewire 400.

The Firewire port on the drive's type 6 pins. My Satellite M70 notebook computer has a Firewire 4 socket pins on the left side. I have an external power supply for the reader of the eGo. When I connect it to my laptop using a cable Firewire 4 pin 6 pin is not recognized. Nothing happens at all. I tried to disable the IEEE 1394 network adapter and reboot of Windows XP Home Edition with no luck. This drive connects and works very well using the USB cable, but I prefer using Firewire. The reader connects and works very well using the Firewire cable 6-pin 6-pin on my PC at home.

Is there something I need to do to make the drive work using the Firewire port? I have no other Firewire devices to test the port with.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe the cable is defective? Is it the cable supplied with the HARD drive or did you buy it separately?

You can buy more 6-pin to 4-pin adapter online. Google "firewire 6-pin to 4-pin adapter.

  • Satellite M70-187 - recovery made a blunder in place now will not boot

My Satellite M70 - 187 (PSM 70) has XP on its first Linux and Ubuntu partition on the second, GRUB, Linux boot manager, on the MBR.

I made a blunder seriously - I just wanted to inspect the contents of the recovery disc, so I booted from it. I was expecting to see some sort of dialogue (he says: 'follow the instructions on the screen' on the disk), but instead apparently he immediately away without asking for any intervention by the user. Firstly, secondly it reversed order on a terminal screen lines, a few seconds later a graphic progress bar is appeared, labeled.

At this point, I panicked - I had not saved correctly everything, and it looked to me he was already written back his picture over my data. So I hard - power the computer off. On reboot, it wouldn't find his BONES, he had nothing except a blinking cursor. In addition, a Ubuntu Live CD says that it could not mount the hard drive. Then, I stopped to do anything to not make things worse.

I understand that I can probably easily 'recover' my PC using the recovery again disc, but can I still save my data first? I do not think that he had time to replace the partition data, maybe it only replaced the MBR. But what really that this in the first place, without any dialogue, without asking me? Or it was all well, if only I had been patient for a few seconds? Would it help even if I ran the recovery disc again?

I understand there is also a recovery console from MS that is included on a CD of Windows and has commands like * fixboot * and * fixmbr * who might or might not be useful, but I realize only now I do not have + have + a Windows CD, given that the recovery disk is anything but that.

I would really appreciate some help. I'm not at total loss - I have a backup, but as for users more semi experienced, it is neither complete nor perceive...

I wouldn't change the MBR or any other thing at this point.

Your best solution would be to connect the HARD drive to another PC and run the recovery software to scan the HARD drive and retrieve your documents.

Google search for "format data recovery", there are many tools you can try.
