2 TB hard drive for Dell Dimension 9200

I have a 3 years Dimension 9200 desktop with 2 X 160 GB hard drives configured as a RAID 320 array.  I want to move to a single 2 TB hard and I was wondering if someone could advise me if a Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS - buffer of disk hard - 2 to - internal - 3.5 "-SATA-600 - 7200 rpm -: 64 MB would do the job."  Otherwise, what is that limit the upgrade?  Is there more to consider otherwise if it is a SATA hard drive? Someone at - it other recommendations? My apologies if this message sounds like it is a novice to updates - the reason is that I am!

There is no reason from a material point of view that a 2 TB drive would be a problem in the Dimension 9200.  Just considerations common to install a SATA drive.

You install Windows XP?  If you use the installation disc is a labeled Dell installation disk, SATA drivers can be already integrated in the drive.  Most Windows XP installation diskettes, however, won't these drivers so that the computer hangs during installation, typically have reported that a hard disk cannot be found.  If you find that this is the case, go to the system configuration (F2 during the self-test after starting or restarting the computer), then assign the controller SATA RAID Autodetect / ATA.  This parameter allows to use the native IDE drivers on the Windows XP installation disc.

If you use Vista, you should have no problem Vista installation media should have native SATA drivers.

Manuals for your computer are available at support.Dell.com.  The service is currently not available, but should be back before long.

HARD drive how much can this system take, I ask because I want to add an additional hunting with taken all readers currently in PC (2). Any help would be appreciated. Regards.Johno65

    Hi John,.

    Thank you for your response.

Dimension 4600 system board connectors are as follows:

    • Connector 40 pin primary IDE channel
    • Connector 40 pin IDE secondary channel
    • Floppy drive 34 pin
    • 7-pin Serial ATA connector (2)

The Dimension 4600 supports up to 4 ATA/100 devices on 2 IDE channels. However, it has flanges/casing for two drives internally accessible only. If you do not connect a third drive internally, there is no place to fix in the system chassis (such as the hard drive bays can contain only 2 hard drives) so it could be hung out of the system. Alternatively, you can connect external USB hard drives as needed on the system.

Answer please if you have other queries.

    Thank you and best regards.

Hi, I have a Dell XPS Laptop L502X. I want to know if the additional guarantee component level is provided in addition to the laptop of one year warranty. Best regards John

Only if the disc was purchased at retail, which is separate from the system.  If this is the disc that came with the system, the hard drive is guaranteed for the duration of the warranty of the system - no other warranty applies.

Support perhaps is not available, because the Inspiron 3650 specifications say that only 1 x 3.5 "hard drive is supported, but hard 2 x 2.5" drives are supported, see page 12 here:

  • Adding 2nd hard drive for Dell E310

    Hello

I recently made some updates to my E310 and, until I got to the point where I was adding the second hard drive, everything went well.

First of all, nobody in my local computer store knew of the blue Paw was to add 2nd hard drive; They suggested screw. This isn't the first hard drive I have installed, even if it is the first in my Dell. After my third attempt of Googling, I struck gold - a post in the forum explaining that support is needed and a telephone number to order. I am so grateful for this response.

I read in similar positions and before putting the drive in I want to understand what is needed after the physical installation. This player will not hold the OS (XP Media), but held the whole image, music, and various files. Still must the player be partitioned and formatted using disk management I read in another post? I understand that I must go into the Bios to activate the second hard drive, so to speak. Is this similar to enter the CMOS? Would you be able to provide clear instructions?

Is there anything else I should do to get the new HDD to be operational?

Thank you for your time and thanks to the person who posted this phone number.

I installed a new hard drive for my dell Inspiron 1525 and try to install windows 7. He asks me to install the driver. How to do it

Using the Dell recovery disks to reinstall?

    The origonal drive failed?

If you are using a real MS win dvd during the first part of the installation it can not find a drive or ask a driver, then the driver is obtained from Dell, specific to your model, its likely the driver sata, you need to download to say a USB and then point to this file when the installation application the third-party driver.

  • Dell Dimension 9200 (XPS 410) boot - dead?

    5-year warranty, but it is 5 y 11 months unfortunately >:)

Data sheet: 2007 Dell Dimension 9200 (XPS 410 United States), Q6600 quad core, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HD, Windows Vista, graphic of 8600GT 256 MB PCI-E x 16, tv PCI-E x 1 tuner card (do not), Dell LCD 22 monitor ".

Brief history and prob: weird, early on, the hard drive must Access all seconds for a few years, never understand this. 2011 major problem does not start, fan on max, diagnostic light code that turned out be meaningless... surprisingly reinstallation of the graphics card has helped a bit and fact pc usable again... Mistakes became gradually less severe, it was weird. they tried to say it's a software problem, but this seems unlikely since the restore to factory condition (and the loss of some data) had not helped at all. Next years two ok. Two days ago it started not just and necessary a few reboots. Found this morning frozen on the black screen of Microsoft and had to hold power to turn off. (itself awoke to a windows update then died?) Tried to start, but it froze on the start of the BIOS set up screen, no keyboard no nothing and got the same old code "123" diagnosis, but even when there is no such code. Repeated several times. Tried reinstalling video card about 10 times, including the removal of tv card for its use of non - no and light code now diagnosis '34' are for failure possible extension of the map (not the graphics card... but there aren't any other card it must be the graphics card). No picture monitor at all now...

Reference dell cruise forums seems to accuse 9200 motherboard...
Can try to reset the CMOS jumper?

I wish dell had corrected it when it was in warranty.

Any ideas? I don't have another card PCI-E PC or graphics to cross check... worth buying another graphic card to try? You want to save pc if possible. Thank you.

  • Question for Dell Dimension 3000 IDE connector

    Hello

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but please be patient with me. I have a loyal Dell Dimension 3000, 2 GB RAM, P4 processor, 1x250GB HDD burners 2xDVD-R, 1x3.5in floppy drive hard.

My Question is how to be able to add a second HDD. I have no way to connect to one. The cable I have all what it connects to the current. There is no way with my current cable to connect a second HDD. I don't know what type of connector IDE cable I need or where to buy it, or if there is even an option to one.

I have the tray and extra HDD ready and waiting but no way to connect. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    John Briggs

The dimension 3000 will support two hard drives, but you will need support for additional hard drive and one connector three IDE 18 "L, 80-wire cable in water data, which is connected to the primary IDE hard drive and motherboard J6J2 PRI IDE connector, see page 38

Dimension 3000 second hard drive installation.

There are no instructions for the installation of a second IDE/EIDE hard drive in dimension 3000, but as the Dimension 4600 has the same case and chassis, you can use the 4600 instructions for the physical installation, see page 18:

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-4600_service%20manual_en-us.PDF

Set the jumpers the second hard drive for "Cable Select" and connect it to the middle connector of the IDE data cable, which is attached to the main hard drive.

After you have installed the reader, enter the setup and make sure the hard drive is set to Auto [on].

To access the configuration, press the F2 key after a restart of the computer.

For the details of the system configuration, go to page 34, here:

    http://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-3000_service%20manual_en-us.PDF

Use disk management to partition, format, and assign a drive letter on additional hard drive after installation for Windows to recognize the hard drive.

  • Dell Dimension 9200 MAX UPGRADE

As you can tell a Dell Dimension 9200 is a bit old this generation of computers, but I want max to upgrade my PC and my calculations, when I update this baby to the max, it could perhaps better than PCs today, so most important first question:

1: can I upgrade my power supply? My current diet only 350w, I am able to pass this to 500w by installing a new? Is it possible to install a new power supply on my PC again? If so, which company is the most reliable?

Thank you for your help, once this question is answered, I think my PC will be a match munching PC

    Azee123

Yes, the power supply can be improved to a 500w unit +.

The Dimension 9200 does not use an exclusive power of Dell, you can install most power supply ATX with a power connector 24 pin or 20 + 4 pin main motherboard and this can be purchased in most local computer stores, or online.

The 9200 has a rear panel open, a diet with or without the on/off switch can be installed.

Note: You need a PSU with six SATA power connectors.

When you buy a power supply, check the manufacturer's warranty, plus better, look for one with a minimum of three years.  Personally, I prefer the Corsair PSU.
