  I am trying to familiarize themselves with the integration API and I'm having a problem where database connections seem to be left in a State open despite the output of the process.

  My code is implemented to call Session.logout in a try/finally block, but this does not seem to close database connections. When I first wrote my code for a simple command line tool to lay the groundwork for a project, the tools would be hang after completing the main() method because of the expectation of background threads. I've added a call to System.exit at the end to complete these threads and lets out, but this seems to be out without informing the database that the connection must be closed (according to our database administrator).

  I looked around the Javadocs and I see all the methods that looked like they stop background threads properly and allow them to clean up.

  This code is run on P6 Pro version 8.4. The database is MS SQL Server 2008.

  It turns out that the database administrator was not the correct check for active sessions. He was looking for lines regardless of the value of the DELETE_SESSION_ID column in the USESSION table. The sessions where I was told were active were actually removed from the sessions that had not yet been cleaned up by the data_monitor/DAMON background process.
