I had to reinstall the operating system and since it doesn't have access to Windows updates.

Get 403 Access denied... tried to use MS fixit no joy...

When you access the Microsoft Windows Update Web site at the address of a Microsoft Windows XP computer that is behind a firewall or a proxy server, you cannot download the updates.

To resolve this issue, make sure that the proxy server or the firewall is configured for anonymous access to the Windows Update Web site. Include the following destinations when you create the destination set or URL set for Windows Update:

Note See the documentation for your proxy server or your firewall for how to configure the proxy server or the firewall for anonymous access.

  • Access denied on a "documents and settings" folder in windows 7 with administrator rights

I get access denied on the ' c: \documents and settings "in windows 7 with administrator rights.  The icon shows a small lock on the (very cute) folder. Permissions indicate full control to the folder. I can only access the contents of the folder by adding it to the library folder. The computer is fairly recent and is very near of the original factory. Unlike my precious computers I left it mostly original except for the odd new program. I never really noticed when it pops up as I was getting used to format windows 7 and thought that it must be "the new way" to 7 " The disk has been partitioned by Asus, which significantly added to the confusion. Now I think that it why documents and settings would be in the same folder anyway?  What is a level administrator uber folder? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

"Documents and Settings" are not a folder - it's a junction Point.

It is there to allow legacy applications using the latest Windows 7 folder structure.

There is nothing in what you can use.

Now, in order to solve the problem better, we need more information about the computer that has the problem. José asked a few questions about this computer in the first reply to your message, it will be very useful if you could answer these questions.

Here is some important information that we need:

    1. What is the level of service pack installed on your computer?
(Click the Start button, click run, type winver, and press Enter to know that information)

    2. what update failed to install with this particular error code?
(Please refer to the method 1: search for the installation error code in the Windows Update troubleshooting tool section of this article to learn how to check your update history to find this information)

In the meantime, you can follow these steps on the computer and see if that helps:

    Automatic update service

    (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service

    Cryptographic services

    3. open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following location:

    C:\Windows\

Rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution in SoftwareDistribution.old

    4. go to the following location:

    C:\Windows\System32\

Rename the Catroot2 in Catroot2.old folder

(be careful here, do not rename the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder, you must rename the Catroot2 folder only)

    5. now go back to the Services window and start the services of three you had stopped earlier.

Now, close all open windows, restart the computer and try updates and install them. If it fails again, please answer with the information that we requested.

You install sp3 via Windows update or you manually download sp3 and try to install it? If you have not tried to install it manually we will give that a shot. Download sp3 from HERE. Save the file to your desktop for convenience. Double-click on the file and choose run. Make sure that you disable all malware/spyware/antivirus before installing software.

  • Try to update windows error code 80070641 641

place. updates for my Vista and everytime I try to update, it said I have 37 updates that I've updated took place and I get error code 80070641 641 and Ican can't figure out how to fix. I ran a number of times.  Thank you

    Hello domgolf,

Windows Update exception code 0 x 00000641 / 0 x 80070641 usually indicates a problem with the Windows Installer service.

Sometimes it's because of a difficulty to access; Sometimes, that means he is absent or inactive (disabled) for a reason any.

If you have used Iolo System Mechanic or any other registry cleaner for automatic crossings (auto-fix) and these exception codes, the cause is an overagressive difficulty of this app.

First proposal is to cancel these final corrections by S M, then make sure it is not set to autorun or Auto setting.
Do NOT continue to use System Mechanic until there is a permanent fix of Iolo.

    Contact Iolo (iolo.com) support

    and request a permanent solution.

System Mechanic "cleaning the registry" has put a double whammy on your system in having abducted two registry keys.

The following will set things in order for the registry {at least for service setup}, so that you can then move on to redo the update of Windows.

    These are for VISTA systems<>
