  • Added Distributed Switch, now can not access any ESX Server

    Hi guys,.

I just completed the implementation of our first 2 ESX servers, a server vCentre added in as a virtual machine to a trial and the addition of a distributed switch to separate our traffic. During this process, I somehow picked the wrong interconnect to cross and moved VMNIC0 that running the SC and all virtual machines after the original installation.

Now, I can't access the ESX server or server vCentre to revert back the changes I made. However, I have physical access to the servers via command line.

Is there a relatively simple way, I can move the SC and VM' on the default vswitch? This happens when the server vCentre has been disconnected for a period of time?  I don't mind having to add the virtual machine to a vCentre at all, so remove the ESX on it will return to the way 1 vswitch and give me access again.

I'm kinda stuck at the moment as I have ready 8 VM to start a project on but cannot access any of them!

    Thanks in advance

    Simon

    Simon,

You must set up a group of ports "Service Console" and assign a vswif. If you follow the steps in KB http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1000266 it will show you how to do this. The service console port group is necessary for the host be observable at the customer virtual Center/vi. I have attached 2 screenshots of what esxcfg-vswitch - l and esxcfg-vswif - l should look like. The Group of ports VMotion is not necessary, just the service console.

  • Adding 2nd NIC killed ESX Server

    All,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Here are the environment and then my question.

    3 - DELL R510 - Dual Core Quad - Intel systems

The area has "2" Integrated NIC

as well as "2" QUAD Port - PCI Intel network interface cards

NIC 0 - integrated NETWORK card is a system where installed- and it is plugged into a standard Switch CISCO GIG, the tag VLAN 108

NIC 1 - integrated is configured for iSCSI connectivity

LOCATION 0 - Port Quad PCI NIC

Port # 3 is connected to a GROUP of CIRCUITS on a CISCO SWITCH with VLAN 108, 104, 107 and 110 on it

Port # 1 is used for the 2nd iSCSI connection

LOCATION 1 - Port Quad PCI NIC

    # 7 port is connected to a different GROUP of CIRCUITS on a CISCO SWITCH with VLAN 108, 104, 107 and 110 on it

All three servers are installed with ESX4 update 1

When I go into vCenter to one of the three servers and go to the primary Switch virtual networking, if I add #3 NIC or Port #7 NIC to the virtual switch (it currently integrated NIC 0 in) the system disconnects the network and to connect to vCenter losses and the entire network. If physically I reboot the ESX Server, it is NOT on the network. I have the tag VLAN in NIC0 defined 4095 to accept all the VLANS as well. (I tried with and without the tag of VLAN 4095 - same result)

    Here are my questions:

1 - Why is - what happens? How it should be configured?

    2. is there a way to get NIC0 to return to the network without having to re - install ESX?

I reinstalled the boxes several times now and tried many variations of combinations of nic, and they all end up with the ESX Server disconnected from the network and does not.

Really looking for some common sense here... Please and thank you.

Hmmmm, shooting a little in the dark, but I think your next 2 steps are:

    (1) get the SC (vswif0) MAC and check your MAC address table switch to fly throughout of ports

    (2) on the console, use esxcfg-vswitch for uplink associated with the Group of port SC the first list, and then delete the 2nd network card.  This should get your SC direct return and leave the new map available NETWORK the vswitch, simply not group ports SC.  (And you don't have to reinstall :-).)

    Virtualization of happy!

  • Adding a new NETWORK adapter to the ESX Server

I have an ESX 3.5 server that has two NIC onboard.  I decided that I will join the ESX Server to the SAN, so I need these two NICS for iSCSI.  I'm going to install a NETWORK card in the PCI - X slot.  Unfortunately, without GUI, I'm confused as to how it will work.  Can someone give me some advice on how to add a new NETWORK card?  I checked esxcfg and I don't know if that's what I'm trying to use.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.

In the VI client, you should be able to go on the tab network management under configuration see the NIC it to add them to the correct vSwitch.

Hi - I ended up having to do such things in the past as well. I just built a virtual machine added lots of processors and memory, then for the CPU, I used the script CPUBusy.vbs from VMware (Google search which) and down it load times so that he began to max real physical processors... For memory, I just opened a massive text file in Wordpad and scroll up and down it. This gave me the circumstances to test the alarms, just don't do as a busy time or use some dev ESX servers... • VMWare ESX Server training

    Hello experts,
    I'm new to vitrualization.
I installed vmware workastation v 7.0 and I also have VMWare ESX Server training Trainsignal dvd for training so here are my questions:

Can I install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 3.5 on my VMWare Workstation 7.0 for training v?

Is - this VMWare vSphere Hypervisor 3.5 product different from VMWare ESX Server 3.5?

I'm you ask all these questions because I want to be sure I can complete a training with VMWare vSphere Hypervisor 3.5 suite drive of my Trainsignal VMWare ESX Server 3 and because I am not allowed to download the evaluation version on VMWare ESX Server 3 and because the VMWare customer service could not answer my simple question and quoted me to the community by them to get advice.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

    Hi nasolsi,

Can I install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 straight on my VMWare Workstation 7 training without affecting my HDD physical whole?

Yes, it has nothing to do with your actual score and highlights form the part of space, he took from your partition to create the disk of the virtual machine. So basically it will eat the space in the physical partition but does nothing else like the formatting of the entire disk.

and the performance on my PC?

No, this will not affect your PC's performance as the workstation will run the pages of RAM and cycles on your physical PC hardware microprocessor.

If permitted increase RAM by a value so that you do not encounter CMTF or any other problem. 2048MB is the minimum memory required to run ESXi.

  • The "Console" tab fails on servers on a host ESX Server 3.5.0

    Hello

On one of our server VMware ESX 3.5.0 123630 hosts, I get an error message when I try to use the "Console" tab on the servers located on the ESX Server.

The error message "unable to connect to the host esx006.sb.local: a connection attempt fails, because the connected party did not properly after a period or the connection failed because the connected host has failed."

This ESX Server is configured as all the other ESX servers in our environment, so I don't understand why it does not work on the ESX Server.

I have no problems connecting to the ESX Server and I have no problems connecting to servers through the mstsc.

I have the following VMware Infrastructure customers installed on my computer:

    -VMware Infrastructure Client 2.5

    -VMware Virtual Infrastructure Client 2.0

    -VMware vSphere Client 4.1

To connect to the above mensioned ESX Server, I use the client "VMware Infrastructure Client, Version 2.5.0 Build 147704".

Can you help me solve this mystery?

    Kind regards

    Carl-Marius

  • License available when one of the ESX Server is in maintenance mode

The available license count changes if ESX Server is added in maintenance mode? I think that the answer is Yes, but I want to be sure of it. Unfortunately I can't test this in my environment.

I have ESX 3.5 update 5 and VC upadate 6

    Thank you

I just tested it, and the number of licenses available for my 3.5 servers has not changed after that one has been placed in maintenance mode.  I wouldn't really expect him if she is always powered, but unfortunately I can't supply a stop for the moment.

  • Add ESX server assessment to VC with error: there is not enough license installed to run the operation.

    Hi all:

I added two esx servers in my vc received the error: there is not enough licnese installed to run the operation.

There are some servers esx with correct license file in VI3.5U3 in my environment. I want to add more than two servers esx with evaluation mode in this virtual Center. I got error.

connection to the esx server directly without vc, to feature license tab, I selected evaluation mode is ok. but I can't added these in vc. Why?

    can someone help out me.

    Thank you very much.

    hihiy

I don't think you can, you need to turn your TC to eval too, and before we do, your VC should not exceeded calclation eval of 60 days from the first day, it has been installed.

BTW, since you have valid VC 2.5 license, and is not the Foundation of VC, why don't you showing your ESX with eval license server to license? Add then the two ESX to your existing VC?

  • How can I remove a non-existent target ESX server from the list of vMA?

I added some ESX servers at VMAs using "lt & sudo vifp addserver; hostname & gt; ».  These servers have been removed before removing the VMA.  Since they are not online, I get the message when you do "sudo vifp removeserver & lt; hostname & gt; "below.  How can I remove them from the list of targets vMA?  Thank you.

Error: Unable to connect. Please make sure that the server is in place and is a supported version.

If you are using the latest version of vMA 4.0, you should be able to do the following:

    sudo vifp removeserver --force

When it ask for password, just type in whatever she should remove just with strength of the management host.

You can also take a look in the vMA configuration file that keeps track of hosts under management and erase the old entries:

    / etc/VMware/viconfig/viconfig. XML

    / Home/VI-admin /. VMware/credstore/vicredentials. XML

Who gives a try and see if it helps, it is always advisable to withdraw before the host decommission but option 1 work usually, from what I've seen.

  • Unable to virtualize the host esx Server quadcore AMD Barcelona B3

I have a server with AMD Quad Core CPU Barcelona B3 32 GB of RAM. I installed ESX 4.0 update1 on it successfully. After that, I try to virtualize esx server on this server. I added the new virtual machine with a standard configuration. When I try to boot the cdrom ESX4.0 I get the error message shown in the attachment.

I tried with esx 3.5 and 4. Same mistake.

cpuinfo on the esx host recognizes that UC is B3.

I would be grateful no work around for this work.

    Thanks in advance

It seems that your host is in an EVC cluster configured for Opterons third generation.  VCA usurps the guest not to not CPUID settings for a 'lowest common denominator' CPU, which is, unfortunately, a B2.  Try to remove the EVC cluster host.

  • Upgrade virtual Center 2.02 VC 2.5 on the new server. Upgrade ESX 3.02 ESX Server 3.5. and add the new ESX Server.

    Hello

We are due to upgrade our VMWare environment. ESX 3.02 x servers virtual Center 2.02 and 3.  We have new material on which to install Virtual Center and we are also adding a new ESX Server.

I read various guides for virtual center upgrade and watched questions on the forum, but can not see everything that relates to the way I thought to do. I want to install Virtual Center 2.5 on the new server and I would refer her to the current virtual cenre database.  Is this supported?

I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

    Would this work.

What is the best way to upgrade the virtual center of new material and a new Version?

Thank you for all the advice that can be offered.

    Kind regards.

Yes, it is an upgrade that is supported.  Don't forget there will be an upgrade for your DB schema and it may take some time.  Just make sure that you have a good backup of your DB before you start.

I agree entirely, I drive rebuild is the way to go.

Upgrade to the current version using the .iso image file.  Don't forget the license server, which is a standalone update and are located in the folder /vpx of the vCenter .iso

    Upgrade path:

    1 vCenter

    2 ESX

  • How to manually configure the IP, subnet, gateway on the new NIC in ESX Server 3.5

Hello, first let me say that I am relatively new on ESX Server and so the question I ask here may seem trivial but I looked through the documentation and other threads and that you have not found quite what I'm looking for.

I have an ESX Server 3.5 with a number of production virtual machines running works very well.  I need to install a second NETWORK adapter because my use of the network will go through the roof, once I convert a production server used in a virtual machine on this machine.  I have a server Dell PE 2950 and I bought an Intel Pro/1000 PT dual port PCI-e adapter that is on the list of hardware supported.  In the reading I did, every reason to believe that when I set up the server, the new network cards will appear in the VIC where I can assign to a new Vswitch and so forth, so I get it.  What I don't see in the VIC is a way to specify the NETWORK adapter settings.

The problem is that the switch I connect to, put in place by our network management staff, will not be DHCP settings of NETWORK card for me, I have to manually configure the IP, subnet and gateway until I can start talking.  When I initially installed ESX, I was able to provide all parameters of NETWORK card installation - which is not the case now with the new NETWORK card and the operating system all this up and running.  How do I do this?  Thanks for any help.

    ... BillH

Adding another physical NETWORK card to your vSwitch will make this new Teddy to comply with policies of vSwitch.  In particular, the load balancing algorithm will determine how the additional bears will get used.  By default, this is done with switch port ID.  This means that each vm NIC that feeds, will choose the next available bear to talk about.  The virtual NIC will essentially be Robin and choose the next Teddy online to talk it through and will so remain like that until a failure condition occurs, or the virtual machine is restarted.

If you know a particular VM is a high user of I/O, and you want to separate its traffic from the rest of your virtual machine, and then create a new portgroup on vSwitch0, assign this new portgroup 3rd Teddy and use the other two as before.  In addition, in your regular exchanges, remove or make sleep 3rd Teddy.  In this way you completely isolate the heavy vm from the rest of your systems.

  • How is upgrade from Standard to Enterprise Version - difficult to migrate vm to ESX server for Central storage for use with VMotion

    Hi all

We plan to upgrade our current system. We have 1 ESX Server with Standard operating system. Adding 2 more ESX Server with Enterprise edition and upgrading of our current business. We have about 15 VM on our current ESX Server. The migration process is difficult to move the virtual machines in storage Central for use with VMotion. I intend to take the ESX 3.5 Fast track class before you start the upgrade. I am trying to plan a project planned for the time to migrate these courses.

    Any guidance would be great.

    Robert

Here is a link to the plugin - http://sourceforge.net/projects/vip-svmotion/

The amount of time it will take to migrate the virtual machine online all depends on the size of the drive, the configuration of storage etc.
