64 GB of RAM IS indeed working in a Mac Pro 2.1, check it out.

The origin of the 2.1 specification says Mac Pro, it can accept up to 16 GB of RAM, however, many sites include 32 GB upgrade kits. That being said, the 32 GB limit comes from the EFI ROM of 32 bits, which also starts the system to a 32-Bit kernel, up to 10.7.5. Since my Pro 2.1 Mac running Mac OS X 10.10.5 using a 32-bit boot.efi file, again, is starting in a 64-bit kernel, it can fully address the 64 GB of RAM installed. These modules were purchased on eBay and were all drawn to a HP Proliant server are the brand of Micron.

The sole purpose of this post is to prove a point, as a will valid "theory" which States that these machines can support 'potentially' 64 GB of RAM. I understand, these machines are no longer supported, and not a lot of people actually own this particular machine more. If, however, it serves any reference information, order, strengthen decisions taken by those wishing to modernize their machines, in a way that confirms the ability to run 64 GB of RAM on a Mac Pro 2, 1/1, 1, then it would be a solid reference point to confirm such opportunities. You are welcome.

Make sure that you increase your speed fan base. These DIMMs do not have the sinks BIG heat required for use in the (slower air movement) Mac Pro units. If they get too hot, they will fail prematurely.

  • 16 GB of RAM with a work for the MacBook Pro mid 2012 13 "i5 location?

    Hey,.

one of my two RAM slots no longer works. I always wanted to update my 16 GB RAM. I know that my MacBook Pro can have 16 GB of RAM with 2x8GB - RAM modules. But is it possible to have 16 GB of RAM with a slit (1x16GB) ?

Call OWC (macsales.com) and Crucial to ask, but the kits which they tested for 16 GB is 2x8GB.

  • A Dell U2414H can work with a mac Pro 3.1 (10.9.5) and an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT?

    Hello

Here's my dilemma. I recently bought a Dell U2414 as a 2nd monitor to replace my old 2407FWP Dell (has died) with the understanding that the new monitor would work (via a DVI to mini displayport cable). I bought a high quality 3rd party DVI to mini display port cable. Obviously, the monitor does not. I can't get a direct Dell response if this will never work. My hunch is the graphics card can not simply to manage this monitor and it won't work with my system.

FYI: I also have an old DELL G2210 (resolution: 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz) on the other DVI port. So I'll still need a DVI port.

Here are the current video card info:

ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT: VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Here is my Mac info (on 10.9.5):

Model name: Mac Pro (early 2008)

    Model identifier: MacPro3, 1

Processor name: Intel Quad - Core Xeon

    Processor speed: 2.8 GHz

    16 GB OF RAM

Firstly: If someone can give an answer as to if the monitor works with this graphics card, just to settle this matter and move?

Second, assuming that no, my choice appears to be:

    1. return the screen and try to find another 24 "that will work with the original map (someone there suggestions for what is currently still deployed that would work with such an old graphics card?)
    2. upgrade the map so it can handle the new monitor but still run the old.

I chatted with OWC on this subject and they suggested 2 possible upgrade cards but they will not be returned since they could not guarantee that they will work with this monitor there is a risk.

Dell has been pretty useless (I have no one said yes, the other doesn't).

Here are some suggestions from OWC (see below). Can someone comment and tell me if or the other will definitely work or offer another solution? I would really appreciate it!

This is a screen with a displayPort, a DisplayPort outside and a Mini DisplayPort connector, in 1920 by 1080 max resolution.

You are WAY overthinking this. A mini DisplayPort to mini DisplayPort or a Mini DisplayPort to [size] DisplayPort should do all the work for about US$ 10, no conversion.

You don't need another card unless your is dead.

  • Mac Pro 2008 RAM Upgrade

    Hello

My Early 2008 Mac Pro (3,1) currently has 6 GB of RAM (two 1 GB sticks) and two sticks of 2 GB and I bought a pair of used ram (800 MHz DDR2, who works with the Mac Pro 2008 according to the announcement on Ebay) to take up to 8 GB. I have a Kingston 2 GB key and a broken stick of the same type to complete the configuration. I followed the instructions on the Apple support page and inserted the two sticks of working and broken in the memory card top of the page, and when I turned on the machine, it is detected that the map background (which had the pair of 2GB that was already in the machine) about this Mac. After the reinstallation of the new RAM, the fans in the machine began to turn to the maximum, and the machine hung on the Apple logo. I tried a few different configurations (including the replacement of one of the existing 2 GB sticks with the new work), which caused the machine hang or the memory card, they were to not be detected. I have now deleted the new RAM temporarily, and the machine works fine.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I'm under El Capitan 10.11.4.

installing new RAM check the smaller units of new RAM by itself, has increased the confidence that we CAN work, prior to mixing and matching with your RAM existing. This reduces the problem to the size.

    Hello, all:

Y at - it a clear indicator or a code to indicate if a stick of RAM is registered or unbuffered? I would like to know for sure before I add that extra RAM for the empty slots this Mac Pro (2013) that a 2 x 8 is installed.

The 4 and 8 GB sticks are not saved while the sticks of 16 and 32 GB are registered. As you seem to know, you can not mix registered and unregistered sticks. For example, you can only add 4 or 8 GB sticks to your present 8 GB sticks

  • Satellite P10 - 554 dvd - ram does not work

I got a Satellite P10 554, and as I said above the RAM does not work.
It should be a software problem, because if I reinstall the drivers it works a few minutes (it did until now yesterday it stopped completely)
It is impossible to install the new drivers or update a firmware somehow
(pilot: after rebooting, the old drivers are loaded again (but I uninstalled them))
(firmware update: I still got the message: invalid drive to update f/w)

I hope that someone of you can help me ;)

    Hello

What did you mean with the work of t car doesn?
You are not able to burn or read the media?

The error message says it all. I think you re not able to update the firmware because the firmware is not supported on this drive.

Try to remove the drive from Device Manager, and then shut down the laptop.
Usually after restarting again the operating system should recognize the drive again.
If this does not help, you can try to remove the drive from the laptop. Turn on the unit, then go into windows. The reader should disappear. Then stop and reset the drive in the notebook. After this procedure the laptop must load the firmware again.

    It will be useful.

  • Satellite A100-596 - RAM does not work in location B

After meeting with the blue screen of death, my A100-596 was out of service for some time. I decided to give it a last violin and had it work. I removed one of the modules of 512 MB ram and it works fine.

The problem is that if I put the RAM module the computer starts not (the same problem that he had). I used a program called CPUZ and it recognizes the RAM in two slots (if I insert the other when the computer started upward).

Why CPUZ recognizes the RAM, but windows does not start with it inserted or even to recognize.

I've played around with the RAM modules. Two of them work in the A slot but neither location B. The maximum extension of my motherboard is 2 GB, it means that I can't put a 2 GB module in one of the slots?

It seems strange that CPUZ fortunately sees the RAM in slot B, but windows does not start with it in.

    Help, please.

    > If I insert the other when the computer started upward
Really pass the RAM if the computer was started? Laughing out loud
I think that this is not a good idea. An upgrade of RAM should be done only if the computer or portable computer is turned off.

I put t understand why can CPU - Z can recognize the RAM but Windows not? To run CPU - Z, you must start Windows before.

However, I think that if both modules n t work in location B the slot is faulty.
Also if you can upgrade the laptop to 2 GB not using a module with 2 GB of memory. Use two modules with 1 GB for each module.

  • 16 GB of RAM will not work correctly? Help appreciated!

So I recently had a 2009 Mac Pro 2.66 GHz and it came with 8 GB of RAM. Recently I bought 16 GB of DDR3 RAM, and I'm having a few problems...

If I put the sticks in the location 2 and 3, it works. But later my computer restarted randomly; If it is RAM related or not idk

If I put sticks in slot 3 and 4, I have the flashing as if no RAM installed

In addition, bit off topic but someone knows how I can get my bluetooth apple keyboard and the trackpad to work with Windows8.1 and El Capitan without having to sign in again? Because every time I start Windows I always get out a wired mouse so I can pass and connect to EACH TIME and then reconnect them to El Capitan... I mean, the keyboard or the mouse bluetooth operates at the level of the UEFI, so it must be seen with right of Windows?

  • Help with Ram & graphics (old mac pro)

    Hello!

I am in need of help on my "old" gen mac pro 8-core xeon 5500 3rd (early 2009).

I just upgraded it to El Captain 10.11.6 and everything is working quite well.

I want to upgrade the RAM 16 GB and change the video card to something more recent with at least 1 GB of ram on it.

This mac was sitting in a corner for a while due to a recent move to London and I chose to give it a try and continue to use it.
At the moment, I have the following configuration:

I went to the apple store in Covent Garden, here in London and they told me to check the site of Crucial that ram that I buy using their tool to find the exact model, I need.

Well... I did... and the Web page does not suggest me any RAM, only SSDS.

I tried the same tool on other Mac I (iMac and macbook pro) and it worked.

So, my fear is that they (crucial) have no RAM in stock for my specific model.

Do you know what version should I buy and where? (amazon?)

The same is for the video card, I want to upgrade to another card with at least 1 GB of ram on it.

The mac will be used mainly as Adobe Creative station for Photoshop / Lightroom / InDesign.

Thank you in advance and I really hope you can help me. (even the guy from the apple store told me to ask here...)

  • Mac Pro RAM, Audio, Bluetooth mouse problems

I recently bought an Apple factory refurbished Mac Pro (end 2013) and replaced the three-chip RAM of 4 GB with 16 GB of Crucial two chips. Everything was great for the first two weeks. Then I started having a strange audio problem. Audio would become suddenly agitated. I disconnected and reconnected the speaker output and it would start working again. Finally, unplug the unit and plug the unit has stopped working (audio would eventually just stop working completely... zero sound with or without the speaker plugged in...) and I had to restart the computer.

Then one day I noticed that only 16 GB of RAM showed up (I run own memory, so he's in my toolbar). I opened the machine and moved the two chips on the other side and when I rebooted, I got 32GB again.

Then I noticed that when the audio problem came once again (he seems to be after the computer has been for a few hours or more) my Apple bluetooth mouse would disconnect and reconnect intermittently... ONLY when the audio starts to get restless again.

I zapped the PRAM several times and now I get the 32 GB of RAM only after disconnecting the chips and MOVING them to another location, but not all the time. The audio port will begin to spoil, I reboot and I'm back to 16 GB.

So, is it bad RAM? I removed a single chip and the audio problem still happens.

Anyone have this problem? Apple Care suggested I bring it in the Apple Store, but I thought that I ask here before go this road, just in case there is a known issue.

    Thank you!!

    Rick...

To establish if it is a RAM problem, remove 16Bb sticks and replace the original 4 GB sticks.
