  I bought a laptop with Windows 7 in November already on this subject.  I did updates since then without any problems until a few months ago, I tried to download the update of security for Microsoft Office System 2007 (KB972581).  I get the error message Code 80070663, Windows update encountered an unknown error.  I'd appreciate any help that anyone can give me.  All other updates seem to work and I even checked to make sure I downloaded the SP1 and SP2.  Still will not work.

  First, can you look in your update history and check that it did not install successfully at some point and is all offered several times?  You can start by performing a clean boot your computer, and then try to install the update.  If this does not work, perform a repair of Office , and then run the update. Post back with the results.

  Step by step this path below that can help you to correct the error.

  Click on the "Start" button, type "Windows Explorer" in the search box.
  Click on the "Windows Explorer" in the "Programs" menu
  Navigate to the path "c:/users/Allusers/Microsoft/Office/data", find "opa12.dat" file and rename it to "opa12old.dat".
  When you restart Windows Office and open a file, it prompts you to turn on the Windows desktop, then activate it online.
  Reinstall the updates from the Windows desktop, and then restart the computer.
