Who is torturing my hard drive? Satellite L300D - 11 M

Hello
I bought L300D - 11 M with Vista Home Premium 32 and trying to set it up.
After he starting with initial 2 GB of RAM, a few times I found it using HD too, I decided to add memory.
So I put in another 2 GB, it looks like a little faster now, checked perfomance - low index for aero raised from 3.1 to 3.8, others also increased by several points - all about 5 (except game only 3.5 > 3.6). Windows detects 3.5 GB of memory.

However, there are still HD work even if im not doing anything! I tried different settings of the pagefile, such as: standard, disabled, 512 MB fixed, the value 1024 fixed and its all the same everywhere.

I think that such form of use of the HD will make it last no more long then warranty period so I intend to work on this PC very much...

However, most of the work I expect to do is on text editing and web browsing, and I can't believe that 3.5 GB of RAM is not enough to run the computer without touching the disk hard drive without interruption, at least in the mode of paging file off it shouldn't be bothering HD!

So I want to know what process/windows done HD service are constantly working and if it is possible to disable.

Not easy yet already installed on the computer, and so little out of autostartup (such as symantec antivirus, toshiba registration etc.).

Advice please.

It could be scheduled in Vista, such as Defragmenter jobs.

Check out this site, they have a lot of useful tools that let see what process does what.

  • Upgrade the hard drive Satellite 2410 404

    Hello

I want to improve my toshiba Satellite 2410 404 with a hard drive again. For now I have just 30 GB drive and is not enough for me.

I checked three products to a new Toshiba hard drive.

    MK-8032GAX
    MK-1032GAX
    MK-1233GAX

The model MK-1032GAX 100 GB is my favorite and now my question is, if this drive work with my laptop (im going to install the drive in a toshiba technical station, don't do myself.) or if I have to change something with my mobile phone, update the bios or something.

Just tell me what I should do to work with this drive or if my laptop is not ready for it because it is nearly three years.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

As far as I know this laptop supports only 20 GB; 30 GB; 40 GB and 60 GB hard drives
I guess that a 100 GB HARD drive will not be recognized by the BIOS.

    60 GB MK6021GAS HDD
    MP40KF 40 GB HARD DRIVE
    MK30kef 30 GB HARD drive
    MQ20ksf 20 GB HARD disk

  • How to connect two external HARD drive satellite and the same printer?

    Hello

I have now two laptop Toshiba Equium.
What is the best way to connect them so that they can access the same external hard drive and the same printer?

    Thank you

    Hello

I guess the two laptops are in the same network; Home LAN or WLan. Right?
I this case I recommend you connect HARD drive and printer to one of the portable satellite.

Then you can share the HARD drive and the printer with other cell phones on the LAN.

You could add the network permission to others, and in this case the other participants of the network would be able to share the printer and HARD drive.

  • What is the large hard drive Satellite A30 supports

Satellite A30-514 P4 2.8 GHz/WXP HE/512 MB / 30 GB/15TFT/DVD-CD-RW. I have the latest bios update and only I can see downloads for this machine. I have a 30 GB drive. I look at the model 100 GB or 80 GB. This model supports these formats. Some of these new hitachi drives have also a ata supplys data cable and power. Someone know if this laptop supports this connection or are these two cables. As I have yet a glance. Any advice on what type of player to use will be much appreciated.

    Hi Mike,.

I have a 80 GB hard drive in my A30 at the moment. You will need a player with similar physical dimensions as your drive existing. Cables are not a problem because the drive on the A30 is connected directly to a connector under the optical drive (this should be removed first to access the hard drive.

An appropriate drive would be the MK8025GAS but you could also take the option to use a car with a higher rotation speed. The original drive is 4200 RPM and I am currently using a version of 5400 RPM in my A30. There is a little extra heat, but this is really noticeable during heavy disk activity (anti-virus, Defrag, backup, etc.).

    Kind regards

  • When changing the 80 GB to 40 GB HARD drive, Satellite M40 does not recognize the drive

    Hi all

    Thanks for coming in! :)
I recently source two-disc 40GB 2.5 "IDE and intended to run one of them in my Satellite M40.

    The problem starts here:

    (1) I took the original 80 GB hard drive & install the 40 GB hard drive
    (2) start and put in the Toshiba M40 recovery disk
    (3) display screen 'Y' for recovery blah blah blah thing...
    (4) then the screen shows 'cannot be installed because no hard drive found ".
    (5) I boot in the BIOS using F2-> F1, page 2 shows no hard drive

    (6) I try to use my own CD of Windows XP Pro, same thing (as in no hard drive found)
    (7) and the BIOS too show no hard drive found

The two disk 40 GB is out of mobile work and they formatted it, partition deleted with NOTHING on it. They have also been tested on other PCs (using the converter) using WXP. Two of them work very well!

Now, the weird thing is that I just can't make it work at least in the Sat - M40. Why is this? Toshiba locked the M40 being one Toshiba-disc is usable?
Is there a place to get through it? Hidden BIOS?

I have fixed a large number of PCs, but I can't with this, Please HELP...
Any response would be appreciated, thanks! :)

    Hello

The M40 should be able to use 40 GB hard drives with no problems.
But you must use hard drives with the right interface.
To my knowledge the M40 supports hard drives with an interface IDE (ATA-6).

So be sure that your 40 GB HARD drive supports it.

By the way; Check if your HARD drive supports the good master or slave definition.

  • Hard drive Satellite Pro C650 problem

Hi, a friend of mine's laptop in me to take a look because he wasn't starting. He was going straight to boot from the network map, so a little thought that it's a dead hard drive. Then, I checked the BIOS and as expected not detected HARD drive. Removed hard drive and reinstall, same problem. Then I tried another working SATA drive I've saved, not detected in the BIOS. I then tried the hard drive of my HP Elitebook 6930p for laptop, yet undetected work.

Someone at - he fell on this issue before, it looks like a question of Council?

    Thank you

    Vincent

    Hi Vincent

When you set the BIOS to default settings is the problem persists? Another SATA drive recognized, or not?

It is not easy to say what the problem is, but maybe is the faulty disk controller.

  • Hard drive satellite A80 + weird sounds

    When running my hard drive
    is a weird noise
It is not like the sound of the wind, but it's like something Daniel inside the hard drive.
It does not affect my operating system or performance... for now
but I don't know about the future...
    Anyone know what happened?

    Hello

As Miro said you must be careful and you should make a backup of you important and necessary files. Sooner or later, the hard drive may die. You know the head crash.
But sometimes, the HARD drive makes noises if it works and that these sounds are normal for the use of the HARD drive. But as we said, be careful.

    Good bye

    Hello

It s possible. Unfortunately it s not official but many users here in the forum asked a thousand times before you, and we all realized it's possible. Do not hesitate to buy new HARD drive and install it, there are just 4 screws that hold the HARD drive in the enclosure, the other stuff is just re-installing the OS and bla...

If you have any other questions just ASK! ;)

  • who is on my hard drive? How can I tell what to delete?

For a long time, I had used very little space on my hard drive. For some reason any during the last two weeks my unused space becomes much smaller. I'm a fool to the computer and I have a hard time with the computer language. I'm ready to destroy my computer. I tried clean up options and other disks, without success. Is there someone, or a site that I can trust to help me remotely? I don't know what's on my drive hard and what I should or should not delete. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thank you. I downloaded the link, ran the scan, I was told that I had many errors. Was invited to buy the product to clean up the errors.

You clicked on the wrong link somewhere (and you were correct to pay for repair which are likely false errors).  TreeSize is not a malware scanner.

Try rather JDiskReport .  It is also free, does not include the extra stuff, and provides a nice graphical output.  The only problem is that it requires that you have Java installed, but most people already have Java.  You can download and install JDiskReport (click the link for jdiskreport-1_4_0 - win.exe) or click on the link for "Web Start JDiskReport" to execute it immediately.

    [EDIT]
I didn't try TreeSize and I wanted to see if it has automatically installed a scanner (it is not).  What I noticed, however, the size of the files reported with TreeSize, JDiskReport are not the same, with generic TreeSize, including more files - but no requests doesn't bring the same space as Windows does.  However, or the other of these two applications should give a pretty good approximation where you need to look to reclaim the disk space.

  • Upgrade hard drive satellite 1900 102

I want to upgrade to the HD of my Satellite 1900 102 because of the original HD 20 GB is small.
Can what type of HD Toshiba I use? 2.5 "or 1.8" too?
Toshiba MK1234GAX 2.5 "120GB HD is compatible with my laptop?
    Thank you

    Hello

Two years ago I had Satellite 1900-703. Beautiful peace of hardware isn t it? On this laptop, you can use HDD 2.5 only. 1.8 HARD disk is used by ultra-thin laptops as some models of the Portege.

To be honest 120 GB is a little too much for this good old classic and I'm sure that it won't wok. If I'm that much memory my Satellite was delivered with 40 GB. Maybe 60 or even 80 GB HDD can work with this laptop but 120 GB. I'm quite skeptical that it will work.

  • Satellite 1710CDS - HARD drive replacement

    Hello

I have a question about the portable satellite 1710CDS.
A week ago my hard drive of the laptop above broke down.
Fdisk and partition magic are not able to detect the HARD drive.
My first question is where is the HARD drive located?
It is under the keyboard, as you can see by some other Toshiba laptops?
And is there anyone who knows what capacity hard drive to this cell phone is supported?

I hope someone knows the answer to my questions?

    Jeroen cordially

    Hello Jeroen

To swap the drive HARD on this laptop is not easy. Sounds stupid, but the unit must be dismantled completely. You need to remove the keyboard and on the left side, there is cable that connects the HARD drive with main card. To remove the HARD drive the upper eyelid must be separated from the bottom. It is not a simple procedure, and if you do it yourself, you should be very careful.

As far as I know this device supports up to 10 GB HARD disk.

    Good bye

What you need is 2.5 SATA HDD caddy. You can buy it in any PC or order by eBay store.

A few months ago I bought one on eBay for incredible 5 euros only.

If you can't find, let me know and I'll put the link where you can order one.

  • What is the largest hard drive or the RAID supported by El Capitan and Yosemite?

What is the largest hard drive or the RAID supported by El Capitan and Yosemite?  Also, WHERE can I find this specification?  Drobo claims that 16 TB is the largest external RAID supported and I do not.

FYI............ 2 UPDATES since I posted this question:

"1. Drobo has updated their FIRMWARE to allow now to 'beyond' 64 power to RAID".  Thus, their original 16 TB limit has now been replaced by their new limit of 64 to.  Also note that when you use a Drobo, Apple Mac OS does correctly shows space 'Drive' and the 'free space', if the Drobo 16TB exceeds the size; but the Application DashBoard of Drobo displays the correct numbers.  For example, my Drobo 5 d contains 5, 8 TB disks, for a total size beyond 40 to RAID (theoretically, since most of us should know, now, that the ACTUAL SIZE IS SLIGHTLY SMALLER than THE THEORETICAL SIZE).  AVAILABLE FOR USE ACTUAL SIZE IS ONLY 28.9 TB.  Thus, 40-28, 9 = 11.1 TB gets used in place for the PROTECTION of RAID beyond and the difference between REAL SPACE and SPACE THEORY.  It IS NORMAL because any RAID 5 device always uses about 1 size of hard drive for its Protection.  So, knowing this, the DeskTop icon showing 28.9 TB disk space and free space as everything that is not yet used.  However, instead, the Mac OS shows 70,37 TB disk space and free space like 68,37 TB, which are both incorrect.  Although I'd love it if Mac OS has been magically increase my disk space, in fact, these two numbers are false.  Drobo knows this, and Apple has not, in my discussions with both.  So I hope, between the two companies, that this problem can be corrected.

    2. after many hours on the phone with Apple Support, through no less than 6 people including 2 senior advisers, NONE OF THEM COULD ANSWER MY QUESTION ON CE WHO IS MAXIMUM ALLOWED HARD DRIVE or RAID SPACE AUTHORIZED BY Yosemite and El Capitan.  For me, THIS IMPORTANT FACT SHOULD SIMPLY BE LISTED IN THE OS SPECIFICATION TECHNIQUE, it's quick and easy to read on the Support Site.  But Apple is the new bureaucracy, they are, I don't see what is happening any time soon.  So, be aware that, for now, HE IS No. LIMIT ON SIZE, as an Apple adviser said; but could not confirm in writing; and, IT IS AN INCORRECT DISPLAY SIZE AND FREE SPACE, if your drive is greater than an unknown 16 + TB in size.  Note that I have 3 other RAIDs that are properly in place showing that 9 TB, TB 12 and 18 to size; but I do not know how the SIZE IS IMPORTANT to ensure that the operating system display it correctly, except for my Drobo TB 40.  So, the bottom line, somewhere between to 18 and 40 to is where he goes wrong, in its display of sizes.

  • Early 2009 iMac running hot. Hard drive problem?

    Hello world

    I have an early 2009 24 "iMac. (iMac9, 1, 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). I am currently using OS X 10.11.4.

This problem started, summer 2014. My iMac has been in storage a year since March 2015. Here's the problem, when it started it was summer and very hot. I didn't have air conditioning. I got this iMac from April 2011. Bought from Mac of all trades. Obviously, they heat up on top, or at least this one does. The hard drive is a Western Digital WDC WD1001FALS-40K1B0, 1 TB drive.

At the point where I was running DiskWarrior, who reported that my hard drive was running too hot. The reader otherwise verified fine and so I downloaded Fans of Mac control, looked up what the operating temperature should be for this hard drive and set it to increase the fan speed, if necessary. Now 5182 rpm, it turns the hard drive cooling fan, and he reports 127,4 ° F. The room temperature is 82.4 °.

Now, let's move forward to this last week. I've had my Mac for storage, he had been in the garage of a friend of year-round, is his box. From the beginning it upward, it froze soon after establishing the office. I started on the recovery partition, and DiskUtility found that it could not solve problems. So I started from the eDrive TechTool Pro partition and run DiskWarrior. That was fine until the computer froze again. To reboot the partition e could not climb. The recovery partition would enter to Midway through the boot process and then hang. It's the same problem I was trying to start normally.

So after a long day of trying everything (I don't have a disc of starting of any kind, that I still have stuff in storage), the Mac finally started in the recovery partition. I ended up having to reformat the hard drive, make a new installation of 10.11 and restoration of my Time Machine backup.

After another day of tweaking, everything worked fine. Except the drive is always hot.

Today, it's back to freezing on me. I started the eDrive and TechTool Pro check sensors and generate a SMART report. The SMART report verified the reader, but watch it turns slightly on the warm side. And that was with the fans to run fast.

Then, after all that, I'll try to get an opinion on the health of the hard drive. If I put the fans for normal speed, now it is 2638 rpm and increase, and the reader is 138.2 ° F. This seems too hot for me. You can't touch the top of the computer for a long time. It is too hot.

Run the Apple Hardware Test disk two of your original grey install set.
