  Previously, McAfee SecurityCenter has been installed on my pc, but it has been replaced by McAfee Total Protectiononce the subscription has expired. [It isunderlining] I remember getting a Norton trial software installed at a given moment, but this has been removed to make room for software McAfee, to ensure that there is no conflict between the programs.

  You should have installed McAfee Total Protection before as your McAfee Security Center subscription expires. If you're lucky, the following may solve your problem:

  1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

  1B. download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop:http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

  2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

  3. right click on the file that you saved in # 1 above and select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

  4. now run this triple McAfee fix: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507

  [Note that you you already downloaded the removal tool in my # 1 step b above.] You will restart three times: after uninstalling McAfee Total Protection; After you run the removal tool; and then the reinstallation of McAfee Total Protection.]

  5. after reinstalling McAfee Total Protection, manually & repeatedly update the app until you get a prompt "no update more".

  6. for good measure an another Windows update reset (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058), restart once again & test.

  I just reinstalled by o/s and windows he installs it gives me the error code 80072EFE (D?).

  Oridginally I thought it was Norton Internet Security, I contacted Norton who uninstalled the software. It would update always not.

  What is my Cisco firewall blocking updates?

  I followed the previous messages, updated Windows Update software has changed the start "delayed automatic" to "automatic". All advice appreciated.

  Could you please,

  Method 1:

  Disable the firewall or other Internet browser programs that can affect the Internet connection.

  Second method:

  Please Note: I assume that your Windows 7 is installed in the C:\ Directory.

  1. click on start, run, type 'services. MSC"and press ENTER.

  2. double-click Cryptographic Services and then click on stop (if it has been started).

  3. Locate the folder «C:\Windows\System32\»

  4 delete the Catroot2 folder in System32.

  5. Click Start, click Run, type 'services. MSC"and press ENTER.

  6 double-click on Cryptographic Services and then click Start.

  After completing the above steps please try again update again.

  Continuous validations on code 80072EFE result has been associated with malicious software hidden.
  Strongly suggest that first determine you if these hidden malware residing on the system by running TDSSKiller.exe of Kaspersky .

  I can't get windows updates: using Windows7 & IE8. Last update was right on 18/06/2010 and for some Win7 updates are blocked or I get this error 80072EFE code.  I bought a registry Fixer that said he could solve this problem, but it did not. Troubleshooting in Win7 will not fix the problem. I tried other suggestions of forums, but they do not work, some offer suggestions for Vista. Vista and Win7 are different. I use McAfee Total Protection Service and it automatically uninstalls the Windows Firewall. Even if I disable McAfee error code is displayed. If anyone can help with this? Thank you

  I checked again today and was unable to run Windows Update. I got the following error: 80072EFE.

  My computer works fine apart from this error of update. My internet connection is working properly.

  I now doscovered that my computer has been infected by a "rootkit."

  After running 'One care Safety Scanner' once again he has found an infection called "Win32/Alureon.H.

  It was impossible to remove this infection, and I discovered a small specialized program to do this.

  Removing this infection which enabled my Windows Update program work.

  I tried several fixes for Windows Update to work, but I still get the error 80072EFE code. Windows suggested going to a program called "Fixit", but when I click on it, another window pops up saying that windows cannot connect to this site.   I can get on the net fairly easy, with constant interruptions at various times, but my Toshiba L35-262 ceased to receive Windows updates including convenience store updates in July 2010. Tried to reinstall to factory settings, but although history records an update from this date no other updates are received. The problem is diagnosis error 80072EFE by my software. Don't know what that means I'm relatively new to Windows 7?
