A VMware image disc recovery

I have a vmware image, which, after I moved it to 1 host to another, when I went to turn it on, I got the following message appears "cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/hexnumberofsomekind/BU_NDVSndnpos/BU_NDVSndnpos-0000004.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends.» "Reason: the virtual disk parent has changed since the child was created.

In my haste to set this server up and running again, I was able to do after completing the following steps

(1) by deleting all snapshots from the Snapshot Manager I thought that caused the problem

(2) with the machine off, remove current HDD to edit virtual machine settings area (this was done because the size was detected as "unavailable")

(3) addition of a "current hard drive existing' BU_NDVSndnpos.vmdk

(4) the machine now started but I just found out that the contents of the hard drive is a few weeks old.

It seems that the snapshot files still exist on the disk, because the content of my data store for this virtual machine is included in the attached screenie

    I'm working on a Satellite A200, who does not the recovery discs and now seems to have one messed up the Vista installation.
    Before I started working on this, I created images of backup hard drives 3 partitions (C:\, TOSHIBA SYSTEM VOLUME & HDDRECOVERY) which I backed up on another computer.
    My question is, can I create these images recovery discs? The machine boots, they are saved on triple XP, Vista & W7, they were created using ShadowProtect Desktop.
    I can mount the images in each operating system...

    As far as I know this can be a problem now. Recovery media can be created when the laptop to factory settings. This means that available "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" tool and recovery image placed on the second partition.

    When you move this image of recovery elsewhere and return later, sometimes "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" cannot find files and more.

  • With BSD and DummyNet VMWare image

    I installed VMware EXSi 5.0 and now, I'm trying to install VMware image VMWare with BSD and already implemented-DummyNet in place (I got the file from this http://codefromthe70s.org/dummynet.aspxblog).

    I followed these steps:

    1. create a new virtual machine

    With the operating system invited: Free BSD (64-bit)

    2. go to the data to Configuration/Storage/travel store and download the file (image VMWare with BSD and DummyNet) already implemented - FreeBSDDisk.vmdk

    The file you have a vmdk or VHD, not a CDrom ISO.

    When you create your virtual computer, on the hard disk configuration, should have selected "Use an existing virtual disk" rather than create a new one.

    You can still do this now, by removing the hard disk already present in your virtual machine and adding a new.

    For the new disc, select the option 'Use current' and browse the data store for your downloaded vmdk.

    It is best to remove the old drive, close the "Edit settings" to apply the change, reopen "change settings" and add the new disk.

    This way you are sure that the new drive is added with 0,0 SCSI id and becomes the first disk of your virtual computer.

    But that VMDK file is probably not ESX (i) compatible.

    If it is a single file, it is intended for workstation or player, not vSphere.

    You can convert it to a format compatible with the command, vmkfstools (on the local or remote shell, or remote cli ESXi).

    Another option to convert, is to create a virtual machine in Vmware player, using your VMDK and then use the free standalone Vmware Converter to migrate you ESXi host.

    If you also have the physical system or a lot of application, cosinder to use a backup program of tradition with the specific VMware agent.

    Otherwise, consider Vizioncore vRanger connection or Veeam Backup.

    This is only available for and supported on VMware ESXi. 5.1 and 5.5 specifically from that moment.

    One guy had posted by train and by failing to operate correctly even on ESXi 6.0, much less any other virtualization platform.

    I have had several clients to seek assistance of Hyper-v and passed it to Cisco for a year without a bit of luck so far.

    You can run on the free version of ESXi, if that helps.

  • Can't access file system host (MAC) shared in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client when wanting to create a VMware image (Windows 7 in Parallels virtual machine running on a MAC) for the option of machine Powered On.

    File HOST (Mac) system is currently shared in the Parallels virtual machine and is accessible through Windows Explorer and works correctly in the Virtual Machine environment, however, after installing vCenter Converter application on the Windows virtual machine these shared folders are not accessible from the conversion tool in the selection of the target destination of the file VMware (s). I can't select an existing folder on drive "C:" to write the image so that there is not enough space available for the VMware image and it must be written in a different file system, while the image is being created.

    Anyone know a way around it to show the target to write the image on the host (MAC OS) file system or is it a bug?

    Thanks for the reply.  It seems that the maps are not displayed if they were created as actions by the hosts.  When I created a mapping directly from Windows, then this mapping appeared and the conversion worked fine.

  • Latest vmware image of ReactOS does not have in TP

    I just wanted to try ReactOS VMware last image in the TP and it does not work in there.

    Without upgrading hardware to HW10, I eventually see a driver to install for a sound card, and then a crash VM asking to restart windows.

    From there on, I get a blue screen with the 1st error.

    Upgrade to HW10 keeps giving me the blue screen.

    Of course, this could be a problem on their part ReactOS, but thought it may be a scenario of debugging interesting to see why it crashes.

    Huh.  I tried ReactOS 3.0.15 with the Tech Preview workstation and got the same BSOD as you report it (no surprise, it's practically the same virtual environment) and also got the same race of BSOD this virtual machine under WS 9.0.x, isn't what we broke up recently, at least.  If I remove the USB controller, however, it works very well... that if the USB controller is present it seems reliable BSOD.  Could very well be a bug in ReactOS...  Please let us know if you find something else to this topic!

    While I can't give you a solution, I can share that I had a similar problem with an SRM installation.  Like yours, mine was a working facility which, for some strange reason, began to exhibit the same symptoms.  Start the service, in a second or two, stopped service.

    I opened a ticket with VMware on the issue and in more than three months of back and fourth Exchange with various Tech support I have ever received a satisfactory answer on what caused it.  The 'solution' they gave me was to remove the database SQL RS and re - install SRM.  This 'solution' has worked, but if this question comes up, I'll probably have to back unpleasant, emphasizing the fact that they solve the problem.

    I wish I could be more help, but that's it.  I feel your pain.

    Yes, however if there are names of full qualified path to the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file, they need to be adjusted accordingly.

  • need help to set the access rights of a vmware server 2.0.1 on vmware image

    I have a vmware (running ubuntu server 9.04) image that was created with a vmware server installation varsion 1.0.9. now I decided to upgrade to the host, which means that the host totally changed: new equipment, new OS, new vmware-server-version: 2.0.1

    My problem atm is, I may not know, what would be the appropriate access rights (chown/chmod) for this vmware image. during the installation of vmware server 2.0.1 I was asked to specify some 'administrative user' where I took the an im working with Linux itself (lets call it "user").

    so, when I copied the old vmware image in the data store (/ var/lib/vmware/VirtualMachines for me), chown-ed the folder including all files init by A, setting chmod to something like 600, the console vmware (web surface) told me that there were several problems with the image and couln can't be started etc. etc. etc...

    I played with several rights to the image and the only thing that seemed to help was setting the folder and all files included in 'root' with the command chmod chown '777'... not what I would call 'secured '.

    so: how to set the access rights for the virtual machines? I want that they have only minimal rights as possible and especially nothing like root: 777...

    My static VM files, as in those who are not dynamically created when the virtual machine starts, are the property of root, root of group with permissions of 711. Root is the user that I have chosen as the admin user when you run vmware - config.pl. My users do not have direct access to this server, so I'm not too worried about the permissions. You can give different rights for different users to different virtual machines, creating roles and their allocation to users/groups.   • Conversion Windows XP in VMware images

    I have searched the forums for the method, but have not found what I think I need.

    I have a machine that has 3 partitions - Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux (ubuntu 9.0.4). I would like a method to convert the partitions of XP and Windows 7 physics to a VMWare image.  (I already have a licensed copy of VMWare Workstaiton for Linux).

    I don't see if / when you mentioned what version of the converter that you use, but if you use version 4, continue until you get to the view / change the part.  At this point, you can click the Edit link to change the partitions are converted.

    I have two VMware images: a windows 2003 server and another company of red hat running on my mac with vmware fusion. Two of them are to be only one host mode and I manually assigned a static IP address to those servers to vmware. Thier is a situation that I can't change the static IP address.

    Vmserver1: 192.168.1.102

    255.255.255.0

    192.168.1.1

    Vmserver2: 10.2.18.28

    255.255.255.0

    10.2.18.1

    How to define two communications between these two servers. (sending between two servers).

    Happy the ifconfig worked for you. This is the approach I usually take too.
