A WMV file made in 64-bit version of windows may be played/seen in the 32-bit version?

I did a movie file of windows on the Windows 7 computer and it plays very well.  I used Windows Media Player 11 on a 32-bit Windows XP machine and all I get is a black screen.  I tried to open the file on the 64-bit of Windows Vista computer... and the film plays very well.

Is this normal?  I want to make a video to send to friends and won't have to deal with them may have a 64-bit operating system?

WMV in no way depends on operating systems 32 or 64 bits.
Your symptoms are those of a CODEC that is missing on the system that will not play the video.
According to Wikipedia, there are two CODECs (video encoders) used in the WMV format... an older WMV7 and newest WMV9.  It is likely that your film has been encoded using WMV9 and your XP 32 bit machine only supports WMV7.

  • Windows media player plays is not the wmv files

I installed a new version of AMD Catalyst Software Suite V 12.2.00 08/03/11 and immediately pinned the problem of not being able to run the MWV Media Player files.  The media player will turn green and the audio works well.  I guess that my old (2008) Dell Studio 540 Intel Core Quad 2.66 Hz machine is too slow for all graphical applications included in the CCC again.  I uninstalled the entire update and installed the driver more AMD V 8.950.0.0.  Rebooted and tried to execute a file on Media Player WMV.  The same problem.  I went back to a restore point, until the day before the installation of the new version of the Suite software Catalyst.  Then I rolled back to the previous driver V 8.920.0.0.  Does not solve the problem.

I finally ended up at this place where someone posted the same problem.  I went if the three methods that have been listed.
Method 1: Go to the Play-year-audio or video file FAQ
    Result: Nothing useful there.

Method 2: Re-save the file and check, it is that it works.
    Result: Panel received
    DllRegisterServer in successful wmvdecod.dll OK

Method 3: Change screen Resolution.  My procedure was different from that used by anyone trying to help the first user.  I'm running Windows Vista 64 - bit SP2.  I had to go through the display settings, advanced settings.  Click on change settings and I received the message: your current display driver does not allow changes need to be made to hardware acceleration settings.  I then clicked on the Troubleshooting tab and received the following panel;  Catalyst Control Center cannot be started.  Currently, there are no settings that can be configured using Catalyst Control Center.     No big surprise that I had uninstalled the CCC.  Should I reinstall again?

Having listed all the codecs on my machine, I have no idea what to do with them.  The only one that seems to apply is WMVideo Decoder DMO.

  • I have no sound when I play wmv files.

I have Windows XP. I can download wmv files. He plays, but I have no sound at all. All my volumes are turned upward. How can I solve this problem?

    Hello

    · You hear the sound on the other media files that you play?

    · What is the service pack installed on the computer?

    · You use Windows media player to play the file?

    · If so, what is the version of Windows media player on the computer?

    · Do you remember recent changes made to your computer before the show?

Install the latest codec for .wmv file and check the result.

  • When you import WMV files, I only get the first seconds of my film.

I'm doing a correction of color on a wedding video.  The video was captured using Windows movie capture software and saved to a WMV file.

The file is approximately 700 MB and 50 minutes long.  When I import the file that the project tab shows how we don't about 25 seconds.  When I saw it, although 25 seconds will appear. He made this for all the wedding videos that I import.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

What version of AE and with what parameters of compression were they captured? Flow premature endings usually points to the VBR encoding, which AE does not particularly like. From Movie Maker files can also contain data specific to the program as the edit markers, which could also be misinterpreted by AE. Check things and maybe try different settings. Otherwise, just use VirtualDub and similar tools to convert conventional opinion or other formats.

  • cannot open a wmv file because a required codec is not available

MacBook Mac OS X Version 10.7.5

2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    QuickTime 7.7.1

Try to open a wmv file, I received the following message

When I go to "Tell Me More", I don't find an answer there.

    Any suggestions?

QuickTime no has ever himself supported the opening of the WMV files, it's always the case. There is a piece of third-party suppliers of software that can add this feature known as Flip4Mac, it was free to simply play WMV files but is now no longer free. (Microsoft in the past were subsidizing the cost of this software.)

    See http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac/overview.htm

Your other option is to use something other than QuickTime, in which case the free VLC software will do the job, you can get VLC here. http://www.videolan.org/

  • Could not load file or assembly ' NationalInstruments.VisaNS, Version = 8.9.20.108

I have an app VS c# that references the assembly OR world.  It worked fine in 32-bit Windows XP environment.  However, when I installed and ran the application in the Windows 7 64-bit environment.  The app was the following text:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'NationalInstruments.VisaNS, Version = 8.9.20.108, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = 4544464cdeaab541' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the specified file.
    "File name: ' NationalInstruments.VisaNS, Version = 8.9.20.108, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = 4544464cdeaab541"

Where can I find this assembly file version and why did not he ask you when I ran into the Windows XP 32-bit platform?  It's the same application binary.

    Thanks for your help!

Another reason, you can get this error if you have your target, the value 'Any CPU' platform in the project properties. "Any CPU" setting causes the application runs in 32-bit on a 32-bit system and 64-bit on a 64 bit system mode. It would be a problem or a 64-bit system because you don't have the 64-bit installed assemblies and a 64-bit application cannot load a 32-bit assembly. You must change this setting to 'x 86' which will force to run in 32-bit mode on 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

  • When I download a WMV file on a website and then play through the Player Windows Media, I get the audio but the video is just a green screen Uni.

    Hello

    1. what operating system is installed on the computer?
    2. are you able to play videos other than video .wmv successfully?
    3. don't you make changes to the computer before the show?

    Method 1
I suggest you to check if the hardware acceleration of the display device setting is too high.
    a. Click Start, click Run, type desk.cpl and then click OK.

    b. click on the settings tab and then click Advanced.

    c. click the Troubleshooting tab, and then move the hardware acceleration to none.

    d. click on apply and then click OK twice.

    e. If the problem is resolved after you move the slider hardware acceleration to none, contact the manufacturer of the graphics adapter driver to determine if there is an update that resolves this specific problem.

    Method 2
The required codec is missing or damaged. If the problem occurs when you use a .wmv file, download or reinstall the latest version of Windows Media Player. If you use an earlier version of Windows Media Player, upgrade to the current version of Windows Media Player for your operating system.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Windows-Media-Player

If the problem occurs when you use a different format of video file, for example a .mpeg file or an .avi file, download or reinstall the appropriate third-party codec.

  • can someone convert my WMM project to a wmv file?

    Hello

have beeen fighting with movie maker to convert a project file to a wmv. have followed all the steps of "save computer" but instead to save only "minutes remaining" constantly climbing (in thousands) no save. used wmv files to create project but am worker with a very grumpy xp operating system and does not operate. my last idea is to drag the file from the drop-down list and ask someone to convert it for me using a newer version of MM without my problem and then fall back. is this possible? Notice to lovers? This is a video of 2 minutes for my dad's birthday.

Thanks for the reply. I used the youtube video - MP4 ithink and, possibly, AVI. factory format to convert.

    ======================================
The following steps may be worth a try...

In Movie Maker... go... Tools / Options / Compatibility
tab and disable all filters / OK.

Try once more to save... also try to save in the. DV - AVI
    format as follows:

    XP Windows Movie Maker 2.1...
To save a DV - AVI movie file...
    (and other options)
Type of... CTRL + P (or go to...) File / save movie file)
to open the wizard movie recording.
    Choose... My computer.
    Next /.
Enter a name and a location.
    Next /.
    Show more choices.
    Other parameters.
Open the window of the droplet and choose... DV - AVI.
    Next /.
Wait while the movie is saved.
    Finishing...

If the problem persists... and if you have or can
acquire copies of the original video files... What follows
    converter can produce better results:

If a green install button appears when you launch
Freemake... you can ignore it and it should go away

To download the full version instead of use the
    Web Installer, see the following:

    Freemake Apps - off-line version
    http://www.Freemake.com/offline/offline_all/
(If you want to install freeware Freemake
on your PC without Internet connection,.
    Download these files)

When you have installed Freemake... Open Freemake
and drag and drop your video files on the main screen.

Or... Click left on the video button and navigate to the
your video files are saved in the folder.

Select (highlight) the files you want to import into
Freemake and left, click on the button 'open '.

When video files are imported into Freemake,
On the left, click the WMV icon at the bottom of the screen.

The 'WMV output settings' screen opens.

Choose a folder ' save in ', so you can find the
    converted files.

On the left, click the "Convert" button and wait for the files
