  Hi all

  My apologies in advance if this ended up in the wrong section of the forum, hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

  I work for a company that currently stores its files on an OS X journaled NAS device, connected to a Mac Mini via the lightning cable and the mac connects to the network via ethernet.

  We are planning a migration of large data (~ 18 TB) from a NAS device mac to format, on a Windows Server (like using NetApp storage solution / VM datastore)

  I wonder what could be the best application to manage the data transfer? In Windows environments, I used Robocopy or FTP and love it, but not really know on the side of Mac of things when it comes to data migrations.

  We have a paid version of ChronoSync we use to run our nightly backups to other NAS material - I see that this has developed in a few searches on Google.

  2 other products that pop up in my research are arRsync and SuperDuper - can someone comment or recommend these products?

  That's what I look for in an application to manage the transfer:

  -support to copy the attributes of file from the MAC world to Windows

  -support the recovery if the transfer fails / break

  -being able to provide a significant peace of mind summary when the transfer is complete (sort of like ChronoSyncs connect)

  -GUI based and have a nice interface

  -Be reliable to transfer large date - currently about 18 ~ TB

  Looking forward to hearing your comments, no doubt let me know things that I have to take into consideration during the planning phase or "traps".

  So I'm going to bite and offers some advice.  Summer by this much (sigh).

  First of all, some of the things to watch for:

  1: naming.  Mac users in storage Mac can use any character that they want: and.  For example, my.file! @# $> That's so important # $123. .    can be a file name.  Cannot * REALLY IMPORTANT FILE!  Yes, there are spaces in the and at the end.  Yes, this will make panic window.  You need to do a review of the names of files and folders before you try to migrate.  Search for files that begin and end with the space character.  Beware reserved characters in Windows.  Clean your name prior to migration.  For more information, see here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365247(v=vs.85).aspx

  2: maximum length of the path.  Yes.  In this day of unicode several parts of Windows can only manage a path of the file system maximum of 256 characters.  See the link above.  If you arrive by a system of support for paths longer (like OS X and * nix operating systems) that you want to review the length of your paths.  Test, test and test again with all of your tools, including your backup software.  Make sure he can see both paths that exceed the API limit and also it is able to restore data in ways that exceed the length.

  3: SMB is always a nightmare.  Numeral ID of file crawling, to slow down the reading of the directory, to Hung Finder.  Your version of Mac OS will have degrees of success.   10.8 was a mess with DFS.  10.9 was a wreck of train with Windows cluster servers.   10.10 has huge issues with ID of file enumeration and periodic deadlock.  Yet once, test in your environment.  Get comfortable with the nsmb.conf file.

  4: do not leave your sleep of Macs.  Reconnect the AFP inactive supports.  To connect to a server, let mac sleep, wake can renegotiate the connection with the server (generally) volume.  SMB does not.  If your Mac to sleep with documents open on the part of the SMB, you are in a world of pain.

  5: Be prepared to not be able to find anything.  Research on the shared Windows resources has been a frustrating situation.  You will have taken in charge of Spotlight from the server so that you can use a directory to search like Find Any File trawling or be ready to manage Spotlight index on each workstation and hope for the best.

  Regarding the methods to get the data from one place to another, you must realize that there is a time constraint.  Using a 4 GB/min of transfer GigE, assuming that no problem and rule without interruptions, 18 TB of data will be 75 hours to copy.  Now, since it is a SAR passes to a Windows system, you probably won't get 4 GB/min so increase this number by 20%.  If the Windows Server on writing virus scanning, add another 10%.  If possible, the best advice I can give you is to do it in logical blocks.  Now, I don't know your data set, so this is not possible.  However, if you have several shares, move an action by end of week to ensure you have enough time to perform the copy and also to correct problems that may occur.

  About the tools, I have always used rsync because it allows the two detailed logging and works also in additional line.  Should we get disturbed for any reason, you can pick up where you left off.  Unfortunately, this isn't based GUI.  Also, the rsync 2.6.3 included with OS X is not sufficient to support all the features of file system.  I prefer to build a copy of the last branch 3.  I'll also include some of the patches as indicators of file and compression of hfs.  If it's just data, the patches may not be necessary.  If you need a GUI tool, CronoSync is correct.

  And finally, if you find that SMB on Windows is just too frustrating, there's Acronis access connect.  It is a supplement to the Windows Server native AFP and Spotlight.  Over the past years, I was faced with questions SMB through many versions of Mac OS X.  Of course, several questions are in corporate environments where I have no visibility to the configuration of Windows Server.  I have no idea what they are doing on these machines, but I don't know that OS X integration was harsh.

• problem with obtaining security (Spy - Bot and SuperAntiSpyware) to run or install applications

  I made a mistake. It was preventable, and I knew that I made the mistake, but the curiosity is sometimes too strong.

  The result was once I downloaded and "installed" an update to adobe flash player (who turns out be a virus), SpyBot S & D and SuperAntiSpyware would not open their main windows.

  First of all, to treat the virus, I immediately shut down the computer. I had to do a force quit. I rebooted and never even got the screen that would allow me to boot into safe mode. I forced stop again, and this time, I unplugged the computer and removed the battery (it's a laptop). I noticed that the battery indicator has continued to do is market / stop flashes a few times more before, he finally stopped.

  I ran Microsoft online virus and spyware last night. It has taken nearly 6 hours to complete the scan and found 7 problems, which I allowed to remove. The problem persists, because I still can't install SAS and SBS & D stil open its main window.

  The virus file is contained. At first, when I double-clicked it, the file that I downloaded disappeared from my file my received files. After I got the system working again, I returned, set bookmark the pages concerned, re-uploaded the file, immediately the file zipped and deleted the file.   What security software you are using (McAfee, Norton, Avast, AVG, Kaspersky, etc.)?  The provider of your AV program probably offers a facility to submit files infected for analysis.

  Your computer is still infected - and the virus or other malware interferes with SuperAntiSpyware and other remedies.

  Have you tried Malwarebytes?  The infection may prevent you to install and run Malwarebytes.  However, you can sometimes overcome this problem by disguising Malwarebytes, so that the virus cannot recognize the program.  You'll find a great set of instructions at http://tech.amikelive.com/node-144/tdss-trojan-and-bediddle-adware-removal-guide. Although the instructions refer to the TDSS Trojan, you can use the same procedure to remove the other infections.

  You can also try a different approach, that might work. Try to connect to www.eset.com/online-scanner and perform an online scan.  If that does not work, in Mode safe mode with networking and try again.

  I have AVG but it has expired. I've been unemployed for a couple of years now, and I have no money to pay for the renewal of the contract with. I used SpyBot S & D and SuperAntiSpyware as my main defense since my AVG expired. I also try to make a habit of od stay away from sites known to the virus.

  It was my own stupidity, and I guess I deserve it, but I want to just fix this. I keep hope that something will change, and I'll get a job again, but so far nada. I can't really afford to lose this computer. It's been 6 years, and if he dies, I'm in a world of pain.

  Edit: I downloaded Malwarebytes, following the instructions on the site you provided. I ran the scan in safe mode, and it has found 19 problems. Then, when I rebooted, the guest even appeared requesting permission to access a protected file. I ran the scan again in normal mode, and it found nothing.

  After the restart again (the first analysis took less than an hour and a half, and the second scan took more than 3 hours), Yahoo Messenger started to run as soon as I got this stupid window again. I will try reinstalling SpyBot again, but I am not sure that this thing is fixed.

  Unfortunately, no security software cannot be never 100% effective. Even if you have up-to-date protection AV, "bad guys" can always get through.  The absence of a comprehensive antivirus program with updated definition files increases the risk of significantly.

  While Spybot S & D and SuperAntiSpyware to your arsenal useful additions, they do not provide the full AV protection or resident and are totally unsuitable for primary protection.

  With Spybot S & D, you must also perform a manual update at intervals of a week, followed by vaccination.  Once you have run the weekly 'vaccination', Spybot S & D uses standard Windows and the browser to block access to known malicious Web sites. However, the key word is "known." The 'search and destroy' service manual can remove some infections and the option "TeaTimer" feature provides additional protection against unauthorized to your registry changes.  However, Spybot S & D does not have a complete AV protection and cannot protect against many infections initial.

  SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes are tools for deletion, which are very good to eliminate infections who missed the other utilities.  Unfortunately, they cannot protect against the initial infection.

  You must also replace the version of AVG expired subscription with adequate antivirus protection.  The free version of AVG, the free version of Avast OR Microsoft Security Essentials free program would be alternative appropriate.

  Please note that you must have only one AV program reside on your computer, so it is important to eliminate all traces of your old AV program, before installing a replacement.  You will find tools to remove AVG at www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools.  If you have already used McAfee or Norton on your computer, you should also download and run these emissions removal tools.

  Unfortunately, there is a risk that the infection could prevent or interfere with the installation of any other anti-virus program.  This is why I recommended a scan online, before you remove the subscription version of AVG or install a replacement antivirus software.

  If you install Avast, you must perform a complete analysis standard, followed by an analysis of 'Boot', which will check your computer when you re - start in Windows.  (A Boot scan can remove infections that are hidden, after Windows starts).

  I have SuperAntiSpyware and SpyBot S & D to work. I followed the same convention that I used with MalwareBytes. I've renamed South spybot and its opening. I installed SAS as sup and it worked as well. Even after using both of them, which resulted in the SAS, but not in Spybot, the window requesting the ever-present authorization, usually at the time that yahoo Messenger connects to the network.

  I'll follow your suggestions. I wasn't aware that AVG has a free version. When I bought the installation I have now, it's because the only 'free' version, that I could find was a trial version that only lasted 30 days. I can't replace my anti-virus every 30 days, just because I can't pay for protection. A man who even sounds like extortion. :(

  This seems to be the correct approach.  However, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware did not remove the infection, and I fear that the malware prevents the installation of updated AV protection.  I hope that you will be able to install the free version of AVG, and if so, I hope that it will remove the infection.

  I recommend also to download and install a utility named 'Hijack this'-http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis.  Run "HijackThis.exe" to generate a log file and save the log to a directory on your hard drive.  Do not try to use HijackThis to fix the infection.

  At this point, you will need additional assistance which I am not qualified to provide.  However, there are a number of Web sites that are occupied by volunteer experts who can offer help step by step.

  Register for a free account on www.bleepingcomputer.com and click on the Forums tab.  Forums security scroll and select the forum "Virus, Trojan, Spyware and Malware Removal Logs".  Create a new thread and view the details of your problem.  You also paste the full text to hack this journal in your inquiry.

  You may need to wait a few days.  However, one of the Bleeping Computer experts will analyze the log and I hope, will be able to provide removal of the step by step instructions.

  Suspecting that Im in a world of pain here. I tried to turn on my computer and it says "boot device not found" - performed in test failed... when I hit F4 and test drive, he said "there is no hard drive.   From what you describe (noise and other things), I would say that you don't have much chance of recovering the data, but it's up to you if you want to try the speaker or not.

  Here's what I recommend:

  Pull the hard drive and turn on the laptop.

  If the weird noise you heard has disappeared, then you can pretty much assume that the disc was the cause and replacing the disk and reinstalling the operating system will solve the problem.

  If the noise is still there, while there could be another problem, and it might be risky to throw good money after bad.

• Windows 10 place 8 Pro (5830) Orientation, driver, Boot and camera problems

  I've had problems with camera for a while now. When I try to open the camera application, I get a message that the camera is not connected. I tried to solve this problem through different methods, none of which work, and all of a sudden, I start getting a problem of Orientation.

  A few days earlier, I tried to start, and the machine would only start in Portrait mode. Tilt, rotation, etc. would not alter orientation. I went into the settings and was able to make the meeting place in the landscape, and he should stay there until the next time I started. It always starts in a Portrait, a direction that I rarely use.

  I thought that my problem was perhaps a pilot and I checked the Device Manager. All seemed well. Then, I went to the Dell Support and ran the driver verifier. They told me that I needed to update the Chipset Intel Atom Z3000 Series driver, so I started the download. The download is finished and the machine began to install it. Almost immediately, I got the error that the "Installation failed." I tried again and again, failed.

  Then I looked in the Device Manager to see if I could find where this driver fits, thinking that I could remove the driver in the machine and it would be automatically installed. After carefully by the Device Manager, I found the driver.

  Either incidentally... at some point earlier today, I might not even the machine to start. It froze on the screen, you get before the login screen. About 15 restart attempts finally worked and the machine will start up again.

  I then tried to reset the Tablet and received an other error message that it could not be done.

  I'm in a world of pain, here. Any suggestions?

  OK, no responses, so here is my solution...

  I've broken down and decided to follow the hard way... to the format of the drive, then reinstall Windows 10 and all software. It's a great job. The first thing is to gather all the material needed to make this work.

  Necessary material:

  1. an adapter Dell to allow the power supply and USB connection full size at once. I have a Dell for $20.

  2. a USB Hub with a minimum of 4 entry slots.

  3. USB keyboard

  4. USB mouse

  5 USB Wireless Network adapt

  6 USB Windows 10 32-bit Installer

  7. a lot of Patience.

  Connect the USB Hub to the Dell adapter (1) and insert line electric adapter Dell, attach it to the tablet in the mini (or is this microphone?) USB port.

  Hold the switch and the Volume until you pass at the same time until the Tablet starts in the BIOS. Change the boot order using the Volume button upwards so that the tablet will boot from USB Windows 10 Setup and follow the instructions.

  Once win 10 installed, make sure that you have a wireless connection, and go to the Dell Support to download and install the Driver.Your Chipset coming 8 Pro should now allow touch screen and Orientation. Download and install no matter what other drivers you need and all your software. Set up and you're back in business.

I have an old config on my ASA I'm looking clear, but the last time I tried to do I eventually remove my file asa704 - k8.bin and ended up in a world of pain. (I had worked with an older version of IOS on some routers and switches... I miss the good old erase run, beginning of erasure)

  If you already have 7.0 (x) or better installed code, then you could also get back to 'default' with the following command:

  I understand the comment, and it is sometimes useful force methods you want to synchronize.  But not this method in vessel closed.  If anything, there are more cases of use of this mechanism for the recovery method in this code.

  When I see a synchronization block like that, I guess it's a little shared code that can be executed by multiple threads, which this clearly isn't.  So why is it synchronized?

  In fact, I think that 'design' is a testament to this example may be imperfect.  I think it would be better to have a new Thread for each connection, or have a queue (synchronized) URL addressing.

  As evidenced by another thread on this forum, the developers make these samples as Gospel and try to use them.  So if this is wrong, perhaps we could fix.  But maybe it just me being a lumberjack full.  Wouldn't be the first time...  And won't be the last!

  It seems that this example has been designed with a base defense to the following (if no synchronization) scenario:

  Event thread request _start = true.

  Threaded starts the connection.

  Event thread again pray _start = true.

  Threaded end connection, defines _start = false.

  Net result: the second event thread request is not met.

  That being said, the guys are right: this design is mediocre at best.  In the scenario above, the second request of event thread is blocked while the thread of the connection ends... and as everyone knows at this point, blocking the event thread usually leads to a world of pain.  There are certainly better approaches that can be used here, and probably the easiest way to this problem is just to have the best control flow, such as not allowing not a new connection request while one is already underway.  Certainly the synchronization adds excessive complexity to this problem and distracts from what the sample is trying to demonstrate: a simple HTTP connection.

  For this example, and the extraction, I will recommend to the authors that both be reviewed and be a structure such that these samples are as simple as possible.  Thanks to Peter marchywka for their suggestions.  Comments like yours, it's how we identify areas for improvement.

• Wish of blackBerry Smartphones that I could password protect BB while in the Holster ONLY

  I would love to see RIM put up-to-date, or perhaps a third-party seller 'improve' the security options available on our BB. Here's what I'd like to see:

  The ability to enable protection by password, with a timeout of "never" (currently 1 hour is the maximum), but allow "Pocket Holster lock.

  Here's my reasoning: around the House, when my BB is not in my hand, so I leave degaine on a table, counter or in a base charger. I am not concerned about security in my house. If I "lose" it, I'm not worried. When I leave the House, I got the case. That's when I want password protected. If I lose, I'll be in a world of pain.

  Can you help me and others I am sure RIM? Software developers?

  Sorry - a little background on this...

  In 2009 my husband bought me a new Blackberry Pearl 8100 on the internet (he doesn't remember exactly where). I put my sim O2 existing in this document, expecting to be able to access the internet/email, but none were available to me. A simple call to O2 clarified was that one - my sim card Pay & Go and at that time, O2 did not Blackberry web & email on Pay & Go. I use it as a phone for a bit, got irritated (searched internet and emails!) and bought a Samsung Tocco lite which I was using until last week when I discovered that, since last July, O2 were now internet Blackberry on Pay & Go.

  So, I'm quite excited about buy a bolt on O2, push my sim in my beautiful Blackberry Pearl, get excited when I see the new icons for Facebook and Google, etc... and then I realize that there is no browser option. No globe icon, nothing. The only way I can see a browser icon if I have the menu button and select "Switch Application". The "phone says 'request', then gives me an option to sign up for Yahoo Messenger. If I hit the 'back' button, the screen is empty. If I accept 'Download', I get: "sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support Yahoo."

  I have set up my email and they work fine. If I click on the links in the emails, I just get a white screen.

  I spoke to O2 who said that "all's fine their end" and there is no reason why I can't find a browser icon. They told me to check the latest Blackberry download so my "phone is updated. So, I installed what I believe to be the latest version, but that had no effect.

  A battery pull (Finally, a hundred of them in fact...) has also no effect).

  I'm close to launch the thing caught fire in the wall. Please help me save my beautiful little ' call from such a cruel fate... of ideas?

  I suggest the following, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2, each should result in a message to your BB to come):

  (1) registry HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with wireless network

  (2) Service reference books

  • KB02830 Send the directories for the BlackBerry Internet Service

  (3) restart to take batt

  • Each time a random strange behavior or slow creeps, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the hood back and remove the battery. Wait a minute, then replace the battery and cover. Power on and wait patiently through the long reboot - about 5 minutes. See if things return to functioning. Like all computing devices, BB suffers from memory leaks and others... with a hard reboot is the best remedy.

  I hope that will move things again for you! If not, then you could investigate new update of your BB OS... Here's a process for it:

  From a PC, you can install any bundle of BONES to a BB via this procedure:

  Note that although written for "reload", it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or recharge - it depends on the OS package you download and install on your PC. XML. remember that you remove from your PC, no matter what other packages devices OS BB as having more than one installed on the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

  OK here I am answering my own post, but I found a solution.

  So if anyone else out there in the world has the same problem, here is how to solve the problem:

  Go in the Blackberry technical solution Center and search KB19454.

  Print the document for future reference.

  In the newsletter, click the link to KB14058.

  I assume that you have a backup somewhere. If this isn't the case, you are in a world of pain.

  Erase all data of your BB.

  Restore the backup.

  Turn on your phone and a wi - fi connection and you're good to go.

  The moral of this story is: Back-up frequently.

  After reading some of the other answers givin, I am now totally confused.

  I have W7 and have been backed up on a 'clone' usb HD. But always with difficulty.  Now, I think

  sound never really worked and I could be in a world of pain.  I have NO idea what I'm doing wrong.

  When I tried this afternoon, my PC is not even hired my clone.

  Could someone help me please with this and how do I tell my computer to shut up to make backups.

  It really starts to yell at me and I don't know how to set up and it turned off.

  As we know that formatting USB hard drive will erase the data. So I suggest you to try to connect the USB hard drive to the different port. If it fails, connect it to another computer. If the hard drive works fine in another computer, copy the data on the hard drive to a different drive.

  If the USB hard drive does not work in another computer, you may need to format, and then perform the backup.

• problem with upgrade to Premier Pro 2015.3...

  I have a project that has many layers of clips... it's all good for the month in the old version of the first pro - I upgraded to 2015.3 and now in the world of pain - some multilayer clips now turn green. I can clear the issue sometimes, but he always comes back. original files are not damaged.

  Of course... There are MANY of us that do. Which I am part.

  I have the CC2014.2 (versions 8.x), CC2015.2 (version 9.x) and CC2015.4 (version 10.x) loaded on my computer now. I have multiple ones 'open' at the same time, but have never had a problem having several... other versions of tracking who 'set' of programs go hand in hand, of course.

  If you use several programs of the "DVA", digital audio/video programs, they must be in the games of "corresponding". Although they do not have the same serial numbers of construction between programs, the CC number is little used. So I have a complete set of PrPro, AfterEffects and SpeedGrade for the 8.x and 9.x builds and build PrPro, AfterEffects, prelude and the hearing of the last series. Hearing works with virtually all of the builds.

  Not really aware of what problems there, as it is a designed process. Best practices, such as recommended is to migrate a project "forward" mid-project, to complete a project in version appeared in NEVER. This assumes of course that we keep the latest version of a series in full operation as we start new projects in the new series.

  I work with PDFs contain up to 200 pages (created from MS Word). I use points highlights, comments, forms, lines, and text boxes in the PDF file to annotate the document. Often, I'll have a few hundreds of comment objects in each pdf document.

  The problem is that, almost always, my documents get to the point where I start to get this error message every time I try to save the annotated pdf file. Several times I can just try to save it again and it will work the second time.  But almost always when I continue to work with a document and continue to add objects of observation, the annotated finally pdf just won't save any more.

  What is Acrobat DC known to become unstable at a certain size file or after the addition of a number of objects of comment?  Or after saving a file a number of times?

  I tried to optimize the files, but it doesn't seem to help.

  There are utilities that will find and fix the corrupted pdf files?

  I hear ya! If your document has tons of comments that you need to save, export in an FDF file. Return to a non-currpted, without comment by version of the file, and then import this FDF file. Voila! Your comments are back.

  With respect to the fixing of the PDF file, I have often hit their opening in Apple Preview. Save, close and return to Acrobat. I don't know why, but the preview can open the files PDF Acrobat cannot... don't know why.

  Should be fine as a replacement for this system.  You can easily install a free utility called Classic Shell that restores a Windows interface 7 in Windows 10 - make the question of the new operating system one point moot.

  Unless you're in for a world of pain, downgrade to Windows 10 is not effort - especially since you are dealing with hundreds of hundreds of updates just to get 7 current on security.
