  However, a consultant suggested allow ESXi Shell and access it via DCUI.

  Would just like to ask you what is the difference between these 2 methods of access?

  Accusing Shell of ESXi is available by using two different ways.

  (1) local access to the shell of ESXi is available turning and by using directly from DCUI (Alt + F1), safer, since it is connected locally

  (2) remove access to the shell of ESXi is available by activating SSH Shell and using the SSH Client such as PUTTY etc to access. Since it is remote access, security is a bit of a cause for concern.

  This is the reason, the suggestion to use locally DCUI is given.

• How to access files in a folder to store data for a virtual machine?

  Hi all

  I'm relatively new to virtualization in general (I'm learning!) and have a question.  I have a host server of VMware ESXi 5.0 set in place with several VMs configured in it.  I also have various data stores configured, usually a virtual computer by the data store.  Most of the virtual machines are Windows, but one I have problems with is a machine virtual 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.  I currently manage and administer the server remotely over a slow connection.  Anticipate, the last time I was on the same network as the host server, I downloaded to a folder on the same database as the VM RHEL, about 5 GB of files that I knew that I would need to access in the VM RHEL install different software.  Now, I'm trying to "expose" these files very to the RHEL VM so I can install the software.  How would I do that?

  From what I've gathered reading other posts here, I could create an ISO that contains the files and then upload that to the server on the host to be mounted into the CD player, but my connection is so slow that would take a very long time.  I also believe that I could create a network share on my Windows 7 computer and allow the virtual machine to access the files in this way - but once again, my connection is the problem (not to mention that I do not have a GUI installed on RHEL and I'm not a Linux expert).

  None of the files I need are ISOs, unfortunately, so I can not directly mount the CD-ROM drive in the virtual computer from the data store.  If I have access to a shell on the host server, it does not recognize the command vmware-mount so I can't access the virtual disk for RHEL to just copy the files into it.  Also, it does not recognize the mkisofs command (of which i google trying to figure out if I could create the ISO on the host itself).

  So, basically, I'm looking for a way to access files in a virtual machine that are in the same bank data, as its virtual disk.  If that is possible to copy these files in virtual drive somehow, or mount a CD-ROM drive or hard drive that exposes these files on the virtual computer, I don't have a preference...  I'm just trying to not have to re - download the files in a different format (or using a different method) since they are already on the host server.

  Any suggestions would be very appreciated that - thank you.

  one solution might be to enable SSH on the host computer and then use scp to access or download files from the host/datastore (within the Linux VM).

• flash.system.Shell - definition not found

  Because I installed Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 plugin, everything works well except that a class. No matter what I do, the compiler cannot find the class flash.system.Shell. All I have this problem or know what I do wrong? All other classes AS3/Flex/AIR work fine.

  I was working through some of the documentation online today and a few new classes appeared (or at least new since the last time I checked). I still see flash.system.Shell (which still is not found.) However, following through a few new examples, I found NativeApplication which seems to replace Shell as it offers the same property that I tried to access it from Shell, namely .supportsMenu. (NativeApplication also provides the .menu property to generate menus natives, also previously Shell.) Now my menus work in OSX and Windows. Hurrah!

• Info volume cRIO 9030 to connected USB drive

  I want to display the available disk space for a USB stick plugged into a cRIO-9030 running Linux Realtime (path to the drive is/u).  It is a data logging application that can run for a month with users looking only to see that things are run OK, which they won't if disk space wears.  I tried to get information of Volume and the file Info screws, but both give me nonsense values.  It seems that the Volume of information VI get always reports on the internal disk (/ C) any way I use, I can't see how much space I have on the drive/u.  I plugged into different USB drives with different capacities and free amount, but I still get the same values of the VI, which differ from what MAX brings to the reader/c, but are the closest values for this player than anything else.  I also get a useless value of the VI of information from file/Direcory, which seems to be pointing out how many files is at the root of the drive, not its quality or its free space.  Any suggestions about how to get free space and capacity of a USB key connected to the cRIO?

  Odd. I just tried this on my own target RT Linux (running LVRT 2014) and it seems to work as you expect, where to get the Volume information on ' / u ' returns the available space on the Flash DRIVE and is certainly different from what I get from the internal drive. I see a bug (?) where there's just ' / ' was not taken in charge, what should be on Linux:

  

  / (or/u) u is actually a symbolic link to where the drive is actually mounted as/media/sda1 or/media/sdc1. (/ u is provided as a convenience of compatibility for porting the applications of Phar Lap or VxWorks.) You get the same result using the actual mounting location? You have access to a shell to the target? If so, that shows "df"?

  This question is difficult to answer correctly to the constraints imposed by the rules of the forum, as available in the start menu access methods allow operations that will cancel your warranty and discussion of them is prohibited.

  Given this limitation, I'll give you a simple overview.

  Recovery is the stock Android partition which is where updates are loaded and menu for a uodate.zip of the SD card loading options, factory data reset/wipe and simply wipe the partition hidden. You can only load the official updates signed via the recovery. Normal operating conditions do not void the warranty.

  Fastboot AP is the new menu of the boot loader for loading the firmware via the fastboot command-line interface. That's where the firmware is flashed as discrete image files and is not for end-users, because the required files are exclusive and intended for use by technicians only.

  SBF mode is similar to the old bootloader menu and load the firmware in a different format from a single file by using a software service utility.
  This is not yet scheduled for end users and require proprietary firmware files and tools.

  The other modes are for various material of level low and new access diagnosis requiring proprietary software tools for technicians and developers to test and/or resolve problems with the device. Some of them allow access via adb shell in the Android SDK, including the use does not strictly the warranty but may according to what is done.

  Basically, the only end users should concern themselves with is recovery in case of failure to start mode or other problems that provides the limited menu.

  Under normal circumstances, most users should never deliberately access one of these menus and updates and resets to the factory are scripted to run from the phone while than it started normally and reboot to recovery and without user intervention.

  Short answer: you should never need to know everything about these menus and they would rather you do not have.

  Hi Bob, there.

  most of the components in the FMW stack including SOA infrastructure rely on pure JDBC to talk to RDBMS and as I know there is no client Oracle installed in slot the FMW home (after installing SOA Suite).

  One possibility would be to use the Oracle Instant Client and use its tools from your shell scripts. It's a bit unzip and run Setup.

• 6.0 ESXi host Active Directory Group authentication works in the hull but no client

  Got a weird here.

  Add 6.0 host vSphere to Active Directory.

  Added a group of pub with the Administrator role.

  I can authenticate with an AD user account that is a member of this group of ads, using SSH or Shell access.

  I cannot authenticate with an account AD who is a member of this group of ads using the Web UI or Client vSphere linking directly to the host.

  If I add the domain user directly with the role of administrator on the host computer permissions, the Web GUI and vSphere Client will be authenticate using the user of the AD.

  What it looks like access using SSH/Shell, vSphere host can burst of belonging to a group and to authenticate, but using the GUI Web or vSphere Client he can't.  There are not a lot of sense to me.

  The hostd.log file has nothing in it which is very informative, just a line saying "status: success accepted password for the user", followed by the event 131: could not connect the user without permission.

• ESXi 5 - added user cannot connect ssh

  I am lost in the vast amount of documents and have not found anything that, covering thus pointers to docs command-line ESXi will be very appreciated...

  I added a user (with password) on a host machine ESXi 5.0.0 made the new user member of the users group and granted access the user's shell. I have double-double-checked access password and shell setting, but trying to connect to the host fails: login just repeat the password, and then closes the connection.  After logging in as root, I can su to the new user (password is not required). Am I misunderstanding something, maybe added users can not connect?  Or have I just missed some setting somewhere?

  You must add the new user to the root group in order to ssh. That opens a lot of other security issues as well. As an alternative, you can also change the following files to add a user ssh:

  /etc/security/access.conf

  Add a line that allows your user. For example, for the "bot" user add the following before the last line (-:ALL:ALL) in the file):

  +: bot: ALL

  Edit the following file:

  / etc/passwd

  Find your username in the line add a base directory, the works/tmp and then change their interpreter/bin/Ash. For the "bot" user you have a line like:

  BOT: x: 501:100:ESXi user: / tmp: / bin/ash

  You should now be able to ssh in the host by using your user name. The problem is that these files do not have the sticky bit set, so once you restart changes will disappear. You can change this behavior to have your settings persist, but I'll be here all day describing the process. You can probably find a good ventilation of the how to make your setting persist on vm-help forums.

• Rename a VMDK in ESXi

  I have a virtual machine which contained several hard drives. I deleted (but not deleted) a couple of them as I would like to rename them. I've connected to an area of ESXi console, press Alt + F1, typed not supported and got access to a shell. I browsed to the directory on the SAN, where the virtual machine in question. From this directory, I typed:

  vmkfstools EI vmname_3.vmdk vmname_1.vmdk

  I get the following error: unable to rename 'vmname_3.vmdk': the system cannot find the specified file (25)

  If I'm doing a 'ls', I see the file. My goal is to the vmname_3.vmdk file and rename it vmname_1.vmdk. No idea why it does not work? The file names are all lowercase, in case you're wondering.

  ETA: I tried the same command w / full paths & get the same exact error.

  Assuming you are looking at the file descriptor. You can manually change the name in the descriptor and change all file names to match. You may mess up the file.

  You can mount the drive in another virtual machine?

  Sometimes, I have to add a new user to a lot of ESX Server. I would like to create a command, while I have to just copy/paste the command into my SSH session on each ESX host.  I used the following command:

  The problem is that the password does not work. When I check the graphic interface, the user is createtd. The user has access to a shell. Only when I change the password, I will be able to log in.

  I guess the problem is that useradd command inteprets the password as a password for the encryptet. So I think I need to provide the password encrypted instead of the clear text password.

  The question is how to automate? Does anyone have a script to do?

  I'm giving a user access to a single user on a switch (show interfaces) mode command.  I want to him refuse to enter Exec mode altogether.  The switch is configured as:

  In the v5.1 release CSACS profile of the user's shell has a default privilege of 1 and a maximum privilege to 1.  His set of the command show license interfaces and I explicitly refuse to see the (without arguments) and activate (without arguments).  In user mode, everything works well; the user can run only display Interfaces.  But he is able to enter can get in Exec mode and when in exec mode, he can enter any command exec-level (but user-level commands are still limited).

  I thought just set its maximum 1 privilege would have worked.  Can anyone help?
