  As far as I know, the Acrobat Reader (for Android, iOS, Windows Phone) mobile products do not understand any special support for mdx files.   Please note that each mobile operating system has different limitations and restrictions.

  The latest version of Acrobat Reader (16.04.05) requires iOS 8.0 or later version.

  However, the App Store can provide the latest compatible version of Adobe Reader software for iPad or iPhone running iOS 7 (or even older version of iOS).

  1. Access the app from the App Store on your iPhone/iPad.
  2. Find Acrobat Reader.
  3. Try to download the latest version of Acrobat Reader.

  You see the following dialog box with two buttons (download and cancel)?
  

  Please press the download button to install the previous version of the Adobe Reader software.

  If you see the dialog box with the OK button (i.e. No Download button), this means that you have never installed Adobe Acrobat Reader using the before particular Apple ID.

  To link Adobe Acrobat Reader with your Apple ID, you will need a computer Windows or Mac and iTunes (desktop application).

  1. Check on your iPad/iPhone, the Apple ID you use for the App Store (settings > iTunes & App Store).
  2. On your computer, Windows or Mac, open iTunes.
  3. Sign in using the same identifier Apple you use on your iPad/iPhone to iTunes.
  4. Find Acrobat Reader and download it to your computer.  ( Do not try to install it on your iPad/iPhone because the latest version is not compatible with your iPad/iPhone in any case.)

  Now, you can return to your iPad/iPhone and try to download the latest version of the player.  You will be presented with the dialog box with the download button.

  You can add annotations and fill PDF forms using the old version of the player.

  Acrobat Reader for iOS does not provide the OCR function.

  However, the Adobe PDF Export online subscription service will use OCR and convert PDF scanned documents to other formats of file, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

We have a master file that we use to create estimates out of but then save the new version, so we can always build a new quote for someone out of the master.   I searched for an answer if Adobe Reader for iOS and Android can read PDF files encrypted by infrastructure solution to public key (encrypted by a public key, in order to be decrypted by the private key pair), but to date I have not found the answer.  From the Adobe web site, I understand that Adobe Reader for Android supports to read a document encrypted with AES256 but it does not mention on PKI.  I had to guess it does not support encryption with PKI, but I would just get a formal response and would like to know if Adobe Reader Mobile will support it.
