• Print PDFS without fonts embedded (for the USPTO)

  I need to print PDF files which can be downloaded in the PTO we, and so they are compatible, they must not have embedded fonts. I use the XI of Acrobat Distiller with the configuration file downloaded directly from the website of PTO http://www.uspto.gov/ebc/portal/efs/uspto.joboptions, but the fonts are always be included. Is it possible to get the PDF Distiller to not embed fonts?

• PDF Optimization removes lines for the arrows &amp; circles

  I am using Acrobat 9 Pro for Mac.  I created documents that have need of arrows and circles around some of the images, & have created PDFs of these documents.  I need to optimize PDF files to reduce the size of the file, but in doing so, the PDF Optimization removes lines from the arrows & circles, leaving just the start & end points.  Here is an example of before and after optimization:

  

  I changed almost all the settings in the PDF Optimizer, but it always deletes the lines.  What I'm missing here?

  I just found it seems to do with the way that Word for Mac 2011 creates PDF via "Save as PDF".  I found that this works:

  1. In Word, print-> "Save as Adobe PDF" with the highest print quality.
  2. In Acrobat Pro, run optimization PDF with "Standard settings".

  I had the following results:

  • Original Word doc @ 17.2 MB
  • Adobe @ 14.2 MB PDF file
  • Optimized @ 3.8 MB PDF file

  It looks like a lot of steps for me, but it produces a PDF file of high quality to a decent size.

  I downloaded the script above to create a folio of pdf in ID6. I would use it to publish on devices Android, but understand that a Horizontal scrolling in the DPS should be turned off to enable the pinch to zoom on Android devices feature. However, when we use this script, it creates an article in ID 2 page (with the exception of the front and back covers), that is, when Horizontal scrolling is disabled, scrolling occurs on the Android device which makes it very confusing to navigate the magazine.

  My questions are, we can modify the script so that it produces unique page ID files and if so will pinch to zoom work with specific items?

  I adopted the script for several scenarios, which may be useful. It can certainly be more managed.

  Claudio, to answer your question, Yes, you can adjust the offset value in the script. I did it for our PDFs with versions below.

  I made changes in the script which include the following:

  1. Drop the required naming convention. Page names should be ordered now 1 - x. Ex: 1.pdf "Page, 'Page 2', 'Page 35.pdf', etc. I added a sort function to sort problems where there is a # different numbers in the numerical value of page. Note that the word "Page" is not necessary.
  2. This allows spaces in file names.
  3. Note that the script still requires the sidecar to the command files correctly. Folio Builder will import an article "Page 10" before "Page 2"when you perform an import multiple article.»

  I have a wi - fi network with my new Xfinity configuration. I have iMac wireless, Air, the two El Capitan (10.11.3) iPad and 2 iPhones (all iOS 9.3.1) and an airport Time Capsule (version 7.6.4). It works in bridge mode and the router Xfinity has 2,4 and 5 capacity (Time Capsule is set to automatic for both). I set up Time Capsule as a wireless base station when I arrived a few years ago, but now, wonder if I should disable and simply use it as backup, time machine fearing that it might create a redundancy that slows the rate of data exchange.

  I think you could ask for if you disable wireless on the Time Capsule and try to use it as a wired device backup only.

  Apple will officially support Time Machine backups when you use the wireless on the Time Capsule to back up your Mac (s).

  So, it is possible that you could turn off the radio on the Time Capsule and backup using the wireless, Xfinity, Apple will not help you if you have a problem with this method.

  It's your call. You're not sure how well... or if... you will be able to back up your Mac (s) using the Xfinity wireless until you actually try. Assuming that it might work OK, you must then decide if you want to spend on any help Apple if you encounter any problems with your backups.

  Yes, it's normal. A lead of 3 minutes is about 10 MB. It varies according to the type of music, but it's a good rule of thumb.
