Add the SSD in the 2nd Bay

I have a new DV7-6C95DX, on which I have installed Windows 8. I would add a SSD from NewEgg:

  • Adding an SSD on the 2nd Bay in a HP Envy 17-j021nr

    Hello world

I know there are already a few questions similar to this one, but I just wanted to ask to be completely safe.

From what I understand, I'm suppose to use the spare part kit 605415-001, but after watching carefully the kit I don't think it comes with the appropriate cable.

My current HARD drive is connected via an AWM 20624 80 60V tablecloth, just like this picture:

On the circuit where the cable is connected, there are two marked hubs HDD1 and HDD2, the former is used by the current HARD drive.

Cable 605415-001 kit spare parts looks nothing like the cable that uses the current HARD drive.

Do I need a different Kit for the HP Envy 17-j021nr? Or I do something wrong?

Thank you all for your time!

    Christopher

First of all, let me say very nice post with photos and everything. Very clear question. I am also a model of Envy 17-j0xx with a second empty Bay. I did an image search on google with the part number of the kit that you have published and there indeed a cable that comes out of the SATA adapter and goes to the motherboard which is different from a cable layer right like in your photo, but if you look at the end of this I think that the trick is inserted into HDD2 little marked zif connector. I intend actually get the second kit car here:

  • Try to add the 2nd COR/DVR Player

Need help. I have a new Tower of Pavilion A6600Z. Comes with 1 CD player DVR and I want to add a 2nd unit. Only two cables power and date SATA is already connected to the motherboard, one for the hard drive and the other for the optical drive DVR. Here's the Red tablecloth with black connectors cables. I need an another data connector!  A data connector can be grafted onto a second connector? I found where I can get a PSU out of Amazon. I already bought the second player (SATA) of HP DVR and just need to know how to connect as indicated, only two sockets on the motherboard SATA. The inside of the computer is full of type PATA connectors, unusable or you can get a SATA-PATA adapter?. Motherboard is an Asus M2N68-(Ivy8).  Any advise?

@raco43: I would have gone with the types of PCI-e x 1 myself, but I think you know what you're doing.

The SATA drives are soft. So easy to install and these cables of small footprint. FOR INFO. Use caution when you plug the connectors. It is easy to inadvertently break the location on the disc guides trying to connect the cables backwards.  The only time where I ran into disputes with the SATA, cards and drivers associated has been with Windows Vista.

  • How can I install the 2nd HDD on my Satellite P200 - 14H

    Hello
I want to know, how can I install the 2nd hard disk on my Satellite P200 - 14H and what I have to buy, because when I open the 2nd hdd slot, so I don't see anything about what I could add the 2nd disc

    Thanks, Filip

    Hello

Maybe you don't see the second HARD drive connectors because the phone does not support the 2nd HARD drive?
Not all laptops even if the 2nd HARD drive Bay is available, support two hard drives.
Laptops come with different hardware and different motherboards, but with the same coverage
So the bays for HARD drives are available, but the motherboard does not support the 2nd HARD drive interface.

    Welcome them

It is SATA3. An OCZ Vertex3 would be a nice addition to your new laptop computer.

I have no problem to the SSD in the W510 Ultra Bay hard drive adapter.  The problem is that "My computer" (Windows?) does not recognize.  Devices and Lenovo do Toolbox Manager.  How can I get the new drive recognized?  Notice that this disc is inserted into the Ultrabay slot not in primary hard drive Bay.

    Thank you

    SD,

You must reformat the drive to NTFS,

    See YouTube: format SSD drive

    I hope this helps.

Can we add an SSD in the W510 ultrabay housing?

What operating system do you use?

If Vista or XP pro, right click on the my computer icon, click on manage, then you must activate the SSD.

If you use Windows 7, in the search box, type disk management and activate the SSD to use.

  • Satellite P70-A01D: change the drive letters after the 2nd SSD upgrade

I think it's a generic UEFI / Win 8.1 question (not according to model).

However, FWIW, I have a Satellite P70-A01D (bought locally here in Australia).

    It is a victory of 16 GB 17.3 inch Gen4 i7 4700MQ Intel HM86 8.0 64-bit RAM.
    http://www.MyToshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/P70/psplpa-01d002/specifications

I updated the OS to Win 8.1

The P70 is supplied with a drive Bay HARD vacuum #2 - I bought a 250 GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD that I want to use as the main system disk / boot Win 8.1.

I installed this SSD in bays #2 and from there I had no problem using the wizard of Samsun cloning software provided with the SSD (VCC 4.0) to clone my 1 TB on the SSD system.

There are a lot of instructions from Samsun and around the web on how to clone and "substitute" of a HDD with a SSD - however there are much less when it comes to 'Add' the SSD - in the #2 Bay - while always keeping the original HDD fully functional as an additional drive.

After execution of the cloning software, I tried just go into the settings of the UEFI on reboot and change the order of the boot drive placing the SSDS over HARD drive.

It worked but there are obviously questions still as I had not renamed readers SSD worked as system but he was editing as D: and HARD drive was still C: and most of the system/application paths were always scheduled to access C:!

It led to the crash and restart cycles of the Bureau (? & or explorer.exe?) and two consistent error messages:
-"SkyDrive engine Sync host has stopped working".
-"Host for the synchronization setting process has stopped working".

I saw in the Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Online Storage-online-online right click on each drive disk management online online that I can access > however
    (a) I'm not sure if the solution I need is this simple;
    (b) nervous about change of letter on a disk while running the system; and
    (C) uncertain steps in order of evolution [IE. C: (non - sys) becomes M; D: (sys) becomes C:...

At the moment via UEFI I'm back to working with the system on the HARD disk rather than on the SSD seems stable and without compromise of my screwing around!

Apologies for the long post by train to make sure to include all relevant information. I think that my final goal is double win bootable 8.1 / Ubuntu 12.04 of the SSDS probably with Ubuntu on a 50 GB partition leaving 200 GB (enough?). I want to keep a slab of SSD space available for photo and video editing: +/-100 GB!

I wondered simply assign new letters to readers, however the notes at the bottom of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter state:

You cannot change a drive letter if the drive is a system partition or a boot partition.

    Suggestions please?

    Hello

I think you could try to change the letter to readers as suggested in the Microsoft article.
Where this is not possible, try to use 3rd party such as GParted software.
    http://gparted.org/LiveUSB.php

You could try changing the drive letters might start to the top of the unit using the live USB version.
But it might be possible that your system would not initialize correctly after this change.

So you should not forget to mark the partition as bootable.

    Your comments would be appreciated

  • Add the SSD for HP Pavilion desktop computer

    Hello

I would like to add an SSD for my HP Pavilion 500-035ed (office). I do not want to replace the existing drive, I would add a second drive.

I have already noticed a free sata connection and a free power cable, but I didn't notice a physical position for the support and the screws etc...

Does anyone know if there is a manual that describes the physical position for a 2nd drive in HP Pavilion 500-035ed (office)?

  • Boot from the 2nd drive HARD modular bay adapter (satellite P20)

    Hello

I have a SP20-102 and I replaced the stock model with a 120 GB Seagate HDD and moved the original disc in a Module Bay HDD adapter.

Is it possible to configure things so I can choose which HARD drive to boot from at the start, i.e. it is by default on the internal HARD drive but I can't choose to boot from the HARD drive in the modular Bay?

I tried pressing F12 to boot device selection screen, but am unable to choose the 2nd HARD drive.

    Any ideas?

    R.

    Hello Robin

As far as I know that it is not possible to boot from the external HARD drive. It is not supported.

    Hello

mSata differs from SATA, and there SSD that are msata and SATA SSD. You will need to decide how you want yourself. If you want an msata player then it will go into the ports of m you have shown, but if you want a SATA SSD then you connect just like disk main HARD that is there now is also a SATA type.
