Adding a hard drive.

The HPE - 380 t Seagate 1.5 TB of hard disk, can I add a largerdrive (2 TB), in the Bay of spare?  Should be same brand?

Hello

Looking at the configurable Options for your PC, it will certainly not problem with a 2 TB HARD drive - the drive must not be from the same manufacturer.

Kind regards

How did you add it? Where's the hardware mounting hard disk? In any State of cause, assuming that you have installed a hard drive was bought, it would be empty and needs be initialized (mounted) and formatted. To find computer or this PC in the right click menu... Choose manage, disk management and you will see a Visual representation of the hard drives. It can automatically prompts you to initialize the disk. Once do you that and format it in ntfs and assign a drive letter and the name of the volume, it will appear in the computer as a lettered drive.

    Hello

Look in to the new hard drive disk management.  To use the full capacity of the drive, you'll need to be initialized and he the GPT format.  Don't forget to assign a drive letter and a volume name.  In addition, make sure that the drive appears as online and not in offline mode.

I have added a second hard drive with XP on it. I have the second disk set to CSEL. I have a gateway pc. It appears in Device Manager. I was hopeing to combine them, a bit like you can do with vista. I put in wrong place

If the primary transmission is set to Cable Select, you have set the jumperr on the extra disc correctly.

If the primary transmission is set to master, you must assign additional drive SLAVE jumpers

Assuming that both show in BIOS, Device Manager and Windows Explorer, you cannot combine the two discs.

What you can do is freshly format additional drive and then move all files data yourr on him... Mike Hall MVP - Windows Desktop Experience http://msmvps.com/blogs/mikehall/

  • Adding 2nd hard drive for Dell E310

    Hello

I recently made some updates to my E310 and, until I got to the point where I was adding the second hard drive, everything went well.

First of all, nobody in my local computer store knew of the blue Paw was to add 2nd hard drive; They suggested screw. This isn't the first hard drive I have installed, even if it is the first in my Dell. After my third attempt of Googling, I struck gold - a post in the forum explaining that support is needed and a telephone number to order. I am so grateful for this response.

I read in similar positions and before putting the drive in I want to understand what is needed after the physical installation. This player will not hold the OS (XP Media), but held the whole image, music, and various files. Still must the player be partitioned and formatted using disk management I read in another post? I understand that I must go into the Bios to activate the second hard drive, so to speak. Is this similar to enter the CMOS? Would you be able to provide clear instructions?

Is there anything else I should do to get the new HDD to be operational?

Thank you for your time and thanks to the person who posted this phone number.

  • Phoenix 860-170VR: adding additonal hard drive

I would add additonal hard drive to my PC and I see there are locations for additional disks, but looks like I need rails to mount the disk, so it can slide into the slot. HP sells these rails and if yes, someone has a link or a reference number?

    Thank you

The real screw is as follows.

Cylindrical head type, thread 6 x 32, with a length of 1/4 ". This head is made to allow the reader to slip into the slots.  The screw head acts as a locking mechanism.  Drag with the circuit board to the TOP.

  • Satellite P500-12D adding 2nd HARD drive

Toshiba UK say it is not possible to install a second drive in a P500-12D.
The reason seems to be that the "bowl" for the second disk drive carrier is not sold.
I was also told that the second drive Bay could not be used "on the model" but the sata connection is there and inserts brass threaded in the case of the scree of the carrier are present.

The Bay is deeper than 1 Bay (for the thicker > 500 GB drives and, therefore, the support unit for the 1st Bay can be used - entire centres are also different.)

    Ideas for a work around?

Sorry for the spelling mistakes - my original message would not be accepted "your message contains profanity or inappropriate language.
In the interest of your fellow forum users, we ask you to change your message.
"but no indication as to where." Maybe it's that the things happening in the threaded inserts are not allowed

    > The reason seems to be that the "bowl" for the second disk drive carrier is not sold.
The reason is that there are different configurations of P500
The P500 and other series of Toshiba laptops are equipped with different motherboards.
Not all motherboards support 2 HARD drive controllers.

This can be a bit confusing for someone buying a laptop and see the second HARD drive Bay, but if you would remove the 2nd HARD drive Bay cover, then you will see that there is no HARD drive connector.
This means that you will not be able to use the second HARD drive.

  • Adding 3rd hard drive for HP Pavilion Elite m9250f

I have a Pavilion Elite m9250f running Windows Vista Home 64 bit. The computer currently has two 500 GB hard drives for a total capacity of 1 TB. I would like to add a third drive to increase storage capacity.  I have a SATA to 2 to and cables. When I tried to install the new drive above the two existing disks, he did not slide smoothly. When I removed the already highest reader, I could slide the new drive into but the screws are not line up properly with the new drive. This leads me to believe that I can not install a third drive in the Bay. Is this a correct assumption?

I have an available expansion Bay below the optical drive but am not sure that it is usable for a hard drive. If the use of the expansion Bay is possible, do I have to buy a hook or how to mount the drive in this space?

If necessary, I can copy the data from the secondary drive on an external drive and replace it with the new drive. However, I need confirmation that the secondary is the player in the foreground of both in the hard disc enclosure.

    Thank you for your help.

If the task under the existing optical Bay is open, just use an adapter to fill the space and to mount the drive in there.  Make sure of course that there is a power cord and a SATA port.

  • Adding a hard drive to Time Capsule will increase storage space

I have one capsule 3 TB and and get time capsule backup fails due to lack of space.  I have connected a 2 TB hard drive to time Capsule.

But what will happen now?  Time machine will share back up to two discs automatically.  Or do I have to put something else.

You can't just add a player... TC has no brain at all... A normal NAS could JBOD configuration... in the TC, they are now and forever two separate discs...

What you need to do is to move one or more backups on the drive you plugged in.

The method for this depends on what you are trying to achieve... but you should be able to copy a sparsebundle existing since the internal drive of TC on the USB drive... the best way to do it is by ethernet wireless off and the USB (USB3, I hope) plugged into your Mac USB3 port.. The worst possible method using wireless for the USB connected to the TC.

Once you copy the sparsebundle delete the original from the internal drive of TC to create space... then configure the TM in the computer that has the sparsebundle so that it points to the backup now on the USB... This may or may not work... but TM will say that it will start a new backup... what you hope, is that he picks up the existing sparsebundle and she continues to make TM backups.

I want to add a SATA hard drive to serve as a backup to the SSD. Necessary cables do not seem in the present case. What do I need to do?

The power connector is because it comes on the cables already connected to the power supply.

You must obtain your own SATA data connector.

    Good luck

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Success!

I think it was just plugging in the cable needed to be reinstalled.

I confirmed that the drve was good with an external cable.

I made the stop while holding down the SHIFT key.

    Once it did not work.

Then I took out the cable and put it back making sure to he went in the port exactly how is HDD - 1.

This time, he appeared in the windows Device Manager. I already made the partition, format, assign the drive letter.

Everything is good to go now. I'm glad, that I have a lot of storage space on my laptop.

Thanks for the suggestions, have a nice day.

  • Pavilion dv7 4053 cl: Pavilion dv7 4053cl adding second hard drive

I replaced with success the stock HDD in my laptop with an SSD.

I want to continue to use the old HDD in the laptop well, and it seems that I have a second drive Bay HARD in which HARD drive can adapt. I have not, however, see a SATA connector on the motherboard for a second HDD connection.

There is a SATA connector to the disk HARD primary (symbols of disc 1, marked on the plastic) and there are two connectors near the RAM, which seem not to be SATA, and my optical disc drive is connected.

Am I missing something, or is there is no place on the motherboard to connect a second HARD (well, or SSD) via SATA drive?

  • Adding a hard drive from windows xp to a windows vista computer

    GeForce 9500 GT
    4Gigs of ram
    Vista home 6.0 (im not sure if it's a 32 or 64)
    power of 500 watts
drive hard 300gig (also not sure about the details)

I want to do the xp drive the master that I just can't stand vista at all. More my xp disc has some programs and files that I don't have a CD for and will need to download to replace and with my internet slow (150 KB/s max), it would take days.

Is it possible to go from drives like that?

Or at least make the xp programs I want transfer on vista drive and a secondary? or maybe set it up as a dual boot (im not sure what that means) and as a side note, I no longer have my windows xp CD, is there a way to replace those?

    Hello

    1. If came pre-installed XP (Dell, HP, etc.) it is an OEM license and is linked to the original computer on which it was installed.

An OEM license is not transferable.

    2. even if XP is a retail license, chances are he wouldn't start the Vista machine as hard drive XP still installed the motherboard drivers "old."

You will probably need to do a clean install of XP.

    3. you cannot transfer installed programs.

You will need to reinstall them from the original (CD, DVD or Net downloads) media.

    See you soon.

  • If your computer comes with a hard drive of 32-bit pc will work better by adding another hard drive of 60 bits or transfer all files on the hard drive of 60 bits?

The pc is a hp pavilion a706n and windows vista ultimate.

    Hello

You confuse the version of Windows with the hard drive.

A hard drive is a physical device for Windows (operating system)
are the programs installed. When the data is created and saved which are written in the
hard drive. A hard disk is analogous to a wardrobe as a storage device.

Hard drives are not little dependent, which means that you can run Windows 32 or 64 on them
If the rest of the system is compatible with every version.

Windows can be 32-bit or 64-bit. But not all hardware systems can run both.
Many 32-bit systems cannot run 64-bit Windows.

Your computer came with at least a possible hard disk to add possibly
    internally, and certainly outside.

    WiKi - hard disk drive
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk_drive

As TrekDozer said that your computer cannot run as 64-bit Windows if you need to stay
with 32-bit Windows. However, you can add additional hard disks of extra disk space.

Check with HP support, their books online and the drivers, diagnosis, and
their forum are good sources of information from others with the same or similar
    systems.
