adding memory to a mac mini

I have a late 2009 Mac Mini.

The Specs say that it accepts 4 GB max (I guess that meant 2x2gb)

I installed 2 x 4 GB 1067 DDR3 and it works well.

I now want to expand this to 2x8GB (16GB)

Someone please experience?

I really don't want to spend money on memory and find that it won't work!

Thank you

Mouson

Is it possible to connect my Mac mini to my Mac Pro laptop using the memory on my mac mini for installing software Ableton as I don't have 3 GB available on my Mac Pro.

I want to download Ableton software, but it requires 3 GB of free memory that I have available on my MacPro laptop not because most of it is used for my library of music because I'm a DJ.

I'm not sure how I can do it or not at all.

    Thank you very much.

    1. a Mac Pro is not a laptop. Its a big desktop computer.  You probably have a MacBook Pro, which is a laptop.

    2. No, you cannot share the memory (live RAM) or storage (disk space, which is not memory) like that between computers.

However, it is very very bad practice to have so little storage space available for your computer.   If you have less than 3 GB, you should seriously consider an external drive. and unload some files on the outside. Its best not to leave your hard drive to go below 10 GB of free space because it can seriously affect your computer's performance.

  • Upgrading memory on Mac Mini (mid-2111)

Following the instructions, I bought a slot (8 GB) memory.  I was told to just replace one of the existing homes (1 GB) and leaving the other in place, for a total of (9 GB).  After reading the information contained in my Mac mini booklet: "your Mac mini has two memory slots in which you can install a pair of memory from 1 GB, 2 GB or 4 GB, for a maximum of 8 GB of memory.  For best performance, do not mix the modules of different sizes; always install two identical memory modules. "I know that this seems to answer my question, but I called the back store, and they told me it was OK install a slot of 8 GB.  Should I return the 8GB and buy two slots of 4 GB for best results, or it's not important.  I was also told it's a big savings to buy a 8 GB on two of the 4 GB of memory.   I did not open the package again.  I was also told I could return it if it does not work, just for the package of 4 GB of memory.  I asked how do I know if I had a problem and I was told that my computer just does not start up if it's a question. Thank you for your help.

More RAM always trumps any pair and it will work fine.

FWIW my end of 2012 has worked on 10 GB during the last 3 years with no problems.

My second thought about this - why it has removed/re-installed memory several times?  Trying to upgrade the drive?  change a component any?  repair?

Materials only I 'played' were - SSD, adding second HARD drive disk with data doubling cable, insulating modular wifi/bluetooth, etc. and of course, the upgrade memory.  Once they did that, I got very little intention of reopening the mini - except air jet, clean the fan.

  • Flash (is it for me?), Wacom Cintiq 22HD and Mac Mini

I have Flash as part of master CS6, that I bought mainly for InDesign, Photoshop, and first, but I have yet to open Flash. I hope someone here can save me time advised me if Flash is suitable for my purposes. I'm not a professional, just a passionate amateur, but I don't want to use software quality and the equipment to do the best job that I can.

Answers to a previous post in the Illustrator forum (Re: Animation - is Illustrator should I use?) suggested I try Flash.

    Background

I use first to convert my audio-visual presentations to the HD format. In the 1980s, I was just in slideshows of three screens. As part of the transformation, I will be the introduction of a small number of video clips (where my need to first) and also short animation sequences, probably 10 seconds maximum. The animation will be a friend of the artist who strives to expand his talents in the art of the computer. If I buy the computer (a Mac kind), a Cintiq, load the software appropriate and then he loan at Steve and him show how to use it, it will spend as much time as necessary for animation. We barter: happens to use a computer and Tablet for as long as he wants, I get animation.

A typical animation could involve Steve drawing of contours at appropriate intervals, over a background, and then having the software generate the in-between. Shading of the watercolor-style (i.e., non-type of filling, monotone color) would be added, probably manually for each image, unless the interpolation can manage competently watercolor-style shading. For some of Steve doodles on his iPad (simplified versions of what we are aiming for), check out http://www.mediafire.com/download/sj731c17co55g5w/Steve's_iPad_Work.zip

We're both in this new and recently spent an afternoon together watching videos Flash and the Cintiq. The combination looks to it will work for us, but I have a few questions that I hope that some of the experts on this forum can answer. A simple Yes or no can save me hours of reading documentation only to discover that something does not work as I want. I'll also include some questions about the Cintiq and Mac Mini in the event that a person who uses with Flash can provide answers. I live in a place where I have no access to these features before you buy. I have to buy "in the cold". So my distrust.

Please note: I'm not an artist, and Steve is not computer. If some of these questions may seem stupid enough for an experienced user of Flash/Cintiq.

    Question 1

Is Synfig Studio (as suggested at the end of my thread of Illustrator) something I should consider? Or Flash is a better bet?

    Question 2

Flash's vector tools that mimic a watercolor brush in Photoshop? Or is this not possible as a vector, and these effects must be the external Flash and then imported in the background (or other method)?

    Question 3

When a Flash movie is over, how is it exported, for example, to the Prime Minister? Do you export as h.264?

    Question 4

It is not clear for me and Steve after reading three Cintiq videos, how the Cintiq interfaces in Flash. The Cintiq knows it on Flash and appropriates some drawing tools automatically? Or you have to say Flash (or the Cintiq) that this button on the Cintiq now operates this tool in Flash?

    5 questions

Flash and Cintiq work well together - and easily?

    Question 6

Do I need a monitor to be able to use Flash with the Cintiq? Or maybe a Mac Mini is a suitable computer - with the Cintiq acting as monitor? Steve never use this configuration as a computer. It will handle the Cintiq as a canvas on which to draw and paint.

Thanks in advance for any response.

    Hi guy,

I thought I was the only integer which was old enough to have worked on the big screen multi-image slideshows!

Flash can be the right product for you and Steve. I use Flash with an Intuos 4 Tablet and it works fine. What you want to do is to search the Flash forums for Cintiq references. There may be some issues that affect your intended use, or it can function exactly as you wish. Important to work with any Wacom product is to make sure that you use the latest drivers for the Wacom product.

If you choose to use a mac mini, get a new one, one that can use a lot of memory, you will need.

You can export files Flash video in most any type of file and compression is installed on the computer. So, if you use a Mac, install Quicktime Pro and you should have everything you need.

I've never heard of or used Synfig Studio, so I can't comment on that.

Flash paint tools are different from Photoshop and more similar to Illustrator. You'll have all the flexibility of the Cintiq to control the effects of paint, it will take a little practice, but you should be able to get the effect you describe.

I hope this helps in your decision.

  • Updated Mac Mini to Sierra - no sound

After update to Sierra my sound doesn't work internal speaker or headphones.  However, I can send her out to airplay, and the sound from my HDMI.  So I know that my sound is not working.

I can do the headphones work, when I unplug the HDMI.  However, selection of helmets in results in no output sound settings.

Note: I tried all settings (for example the helmet as selection, airplay, HDMI, etc.).  I unplugged the HDMI, started to work in the sound, and then plugged headphones in HDMI and headsets leave to new and no setting will restore the sound in the headphones.  I even deleted the sound configuration files, played with the bits, MIDI and other parameters.

    Hello David,.

Thanks for this info and choosing the communities Support from Apple. I know how to get sound on your Mac Mini works correctly again is important to you! The good news is these steps will be useful in resolving your problem of sound from the headphones and speaker plug internal and get your Mac Mini is working again!

How to reset the NVRAM on your Mac.

    2. you can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user or by setting file trying to reproduce the problem to a different user account. This process includes creating a new user account, connect to it and test for the issue.

I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini, which runs slower than a snail's pace.  I frequently get beach balls as I type this message.  Startup time is very long, and the hard drive is often written / search/access for several minutes at random throughout the day.

This seemed to start after I have updated to El Capitan 10.11.6.  I decided a few weeks to reinstall OS X without doing a thorough cleaning.  It did not help the situation, so I then proceeded to install the latest beta of Mac OS 10.12 to see if that helped.  Nope.  I don't think I have a bad hard drive, either.
