AddressBook lock now that I ran into updates a day ago... Thank you, Microsoft

Microsoft ran in 12 "updates" yesterday for my OS XP and now the Outlook Express address book keeps locking up on me.

Large.

I never had a problem with the Windows address book... before.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Is this Microsofts to force users to the awful Live Mail system?

Answer to the last question: No. you are still using Windows XP, after all.  I think that they who would break first and they always updates for this decade old BONES up in 2014 (April to be precise).

Have you tried to uninstall the 12 (wow - still - someone else said they had 21 updates... same 12 seems a high number for may 2012 updates only) that were installed, using system restore then go back before you install updates and then updates the manual immediately after to see if the problem persists if updates have never been installed?

I suggest to do so.

Then install the updates one at a time, rebooting and testing the functional issue you encounter after every reboot.  Keep doing this until you feel either the problem (so pin pointing to the troubled update) or you have all updates installed and still have no problem (the usual results of such an undertaking).
