Admin tools folder is empty.

A few months ago, I managed to get a rogue virus on my computer hard drive. Ive tried a few things so far but without success.

Ive connected the antivirus avg, including a spyware remover, this had detected a little, but after this all my folders and files were still marked as hidden.
After looking on these forums I have found someone who has a problem like I have, but they managed to get it fixed.
From reading this thread, I've run rkill.exe and unhide.exe. After that, my folder in the start menu have returned but they all don't empty no icons in them.
Now, I was about to use the recovery disk of windows xp sp3 for the first time, but when I took the package the disc is warped and distorted and will not read.
Anyone have an idea how I can get the admin tools back? There was something changed in the parameter in there which prevents me from going to the line.
My features are-
Dual AMD Athlon 64 X 2
Core Processor 6000 + 3.10 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
Any info would be greatly appreciated thank you.
Dave.

Start Regedit.exe and navigate to the following locations one by one:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SOFTWARE-Microsoft-Windows-CurrentVersion------Explorer------user Shell folders

- and -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-SOFTWARE-Microsoft-Windows-CurrentVersion------Explorer------shell folders

Delete the value named common administrative tools (if any).
Close Regedit.exe and restart Windows.

See if the shortcut in the Administrative Tools folder is restored. If this is not the case, see Solution 2 below.

The utility AdminTools (~ 8 kb) restores the missing shortcuts to the Administrative Tools folder.

  • My Administrative Tools folder is empty, what happened

I don't know when this happened. My computer is slow, so I was going to defragment, nothing in the folder.

Disk Defragmenter is not in the Administrative Tools folder.

    http://www.pchelpforum.com/Windows-tutorials/106801-how-defragment-your-hard-drive-Windows-Vista-Windows-7-a.html

Select Start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, cleaning disk to emptying your trash, delete temporary Internet files and other selected options. I recommend also you click Other Options, System Restore and delete all but the last system restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Using the system restore option is most appropriate when your system is slow and you need to increase the free disk space on your C partition. If you have errors that could be solved by using the system restore to your system settings back to before the error occurred initially do not use this option.

If more than one person uses the computer and they have their own user log you need to run Disk Cleanup in each user profile that you want to delete all the unwanted files.

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner also comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

Have you been using a registry cleaner that has run amok?

It is always sensible in this situation to achieve a malware check

Start the computer in safe mode with network and download and install Malwarebytes (free version for individuals only), updated definitions and run in safe mode. Disable other security software while you do the analyses.

    Hey TexGal

do a system restore before you had the problem

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

If necessary do in safe mode

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer'shardware be listed. When you see this information begins to tap theF8 key repeatedly until you are presented with the Boot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

  • Favorite Menu works, but the library of Favorites folder is empty, no import bookmarks or save new bookmarks.

I can see and use the previously marked pages to a bookmark in the bookmarks bar. However, the Favorites of the library folder is empty. I can't import or restore bookmarks to it, and it will not save new bookmarks. In fact, 'add bookmarks' lists all records in which put new bookmarks. I tried trashing Firefox and download a new version. Did not solve. I searched the troubleshooting resources and assistance only I found suggested opening the profile folder to delete maybe corrupted files as places.sqlite but could not find such a file or files on my hard drive. Help! Thank you!

One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

After installing a program, the program on the start menu folder is empty. After Installation the problem is that when I go to start and all programs folder menus and switch to this folder the last installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, the program shows as empty folder. I can't run anything in the menu start all programs. Other small programs that I installed, I was able to start the program to find the exe to start and worked with it by starting the program example start.exe start. When I start sqlservr.exe manually from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Binn it comes up with a black screen and a small window which I don't know that I do not get the appropriate permissions on the files it needs to run. So my z3 screen broken (again), and I need to get my information off, more important still, contacts and text messages. I plug in a usb cable to my pc. The phone is in my computer. I open it. There's nothing there. Just the message "this folder is empty".

I've hidden files defined as visible, I tried 3 different usb cords and reset both devices several times. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Sorry, just panicking because my whole work is related to this thing. I need to see these text messages as soon as possible.

Sorry to hear about your phone

The folder is empty if the screen is locked on the phone. Can you still see the phones show? If the phone does not work, you can connect a mouse to the phone using an OTG cable and unlock the screen with the mouse.
