Admin view assigned to a single server vCenter with 4 users

Hello.   We have a connection with a server vCenter Server view.  Our problem is that we have this server a vCenter figure 4 times on the View Manager Configuration. Servers page.  Each instance has a unique user ID.  I was told that it is a bad habit.  We use View Manager 4.0.

Specifically, let's say our vCenter Server is called Coloradoand our area is called CO.  In the view manager, we click Configuration, then servers.  We have listed under vCenter servers to the following:

Colorado (service account)

Colorado (CO\user1)

Colorado (CO\user2)

Colorado (CO\user3)

We have desktop computers using each of them.  We would like for all of our workstations to use the service account.  VCenter Server page is not editable in the dialog box change Desktop.  We would prefer not having to remove pools with undesirable elements and re-create the pools with the service account.  Is there a way to change the elements of the desktop configuration that is not editable in the dialog box change Desktop?

We will appreciate certainly no help.

Thank you

Shayne

OK, we ca take a shot at it.   Now I would like to test this on some pools that are not all that important, and would also save my ADAM database to see.

1: connect to the database of ADAM using dc = dc = vmware vdi, dc = int

2: Look under the ORGANIZATIONAL unit properties = and OU = VirtualCeter.

3: find VC failure to use and read the unique name

4: go to OU = ServerGroups and find the pool that you want to change

5: go to the properties of the pool to change and find the EAP-VCDN value.   Add the unique name of the instance of VC to use in this area.   Give it a minute or two and see if the correct instance is selected in admin mode.

Now, I'm sure that this is not supported by VMware at least not without having to open a ticket and I don't know if it's the only place wherever it needs to be changed.  I would test, test, and then test more before doing so on a pool of production.

  • Will there be traps to vCenter Server installation on a host in a cluster that is already managed by another server vCenter Server?

I guess that the first answer, I'll be back will be; Why?

Our Organization has decided that the team of UNIX and the Windows team cannot share a single server vCenter Server that manages the environment. This is why the Windows team has offered a virtual computer in which we installed vCenter Server and then we can create our environment from there.

Yes, I already read the doco on the creation of a virtual machine via the Client vSphere on an ESXi host we manage already. It's a viable option, but server 2008r2 should again be a picture they have made.

I watched the vCenter Server appliance for linux, but from what I can tell that would be too small for our environment and is not supported for Symantec Appha.

Yes, it would be nice if we could all play nice, but mgmt don't we have to so that's where we are.

The ideas and concerns would be useful...

    Thank you!

I see - it's just an unusual set of circumstances. As long as the virtual machine has network connectivity, it should work. It would be really no different than having a physical server with vCenter running on it.

  • VSphere Web Client cannot connect to the server vCenter Single Sign On.

I'm running the virtual appliance of the trial 5.5.0.20400 build 2442330 on ESXi 5.5.0, 2068190

While I try to log on to the Web Client, I get this error.  VSphere Web Client cannot connect to the server vCenter Single Sign On.

I put fallow the steps to disable SSO by changing the webclient.properties line add file and ad sso.enabled = false .    Then on the vCenter Server Appliance, restart the vSphere client service by typing service vsphere-client restart .

    I enclose the reference files.

    All ideas will be useful

This answer was simple, all I had to do was remove the # in front of the statement in the file.   and SSO has been disabled after the restart of the service.

  • How to clean an installation Vcenter 5.5 missed a second server vCenter linked mode

    Hello

    First of all, my situation:

I managed to install the following services on a single box:

vCenter Single Sign-On (Vcenter Single Sign-on to your first server vCenter Server)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

    vCenter Server

The first properly installed vCenter (SRMVC.test.local).

I then ran the installation on the second vCenter server (SRMVCDR.test.local)

vCenter Single Sign-On (vCenter Single Sign-on for an additional vCenter server with a new site)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

vCenter Server (linked modes) * impossible *.

I came across a mistake by joining the vCenter linked mode.  I then tried to force who do not have, and installation cancelled.   I think I am facing this problem described in this KB:

Connecting two servers vCenter fails with the error: error 28039.Setup cannot join vCenter Server group related modes (1026087)

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2006850

Now, I see a series of problems with the virtual machine that may be the root cause.  When I open the Server Manager there is an error when I try to view the roles or features.   The error I see is:

Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: element not found (except for HRESULT:0 x 80070490)

To make a long story short:

I don't really want to solve the problem on the virtual machine.  I think there could be a problem with the template I've deployed this virtual machine from and I would just blow it way and the redeployment of a new model. The problem is that, in the previous installs, I had trouble to reinstall a second vCenter after a failure to install because different services have already been registered with the first SSO server.

    My question:

How to completely clean all the necessary components on the first server vCenter after a failed install a second server vCenter mode related?  I think that the second server is not only with its own UNIQUE authentication server, but also with the first server in the SSO site located on SRMVC.test.local.  I want to blow any trace of it so that the environment is pristine and so that I can use the same name of the second vcenter (VCSRMDR.test.local) when I reinstall.

If the second vcenter also has its own SSO installed on the same machine and the second SSO has been installed in multisite mode (should be Yes, because the main goal is to related modes), you need a clean to the top of the first SSO vmdrd.

VMware support specific utility to get this done, please file a case for support.

Installing vCenter isn't going to be a problem, each installation has a user ID application created with the date of installation, this ID and certificate (which should be unique for a new installation, disable ssl programdata folders if re - install) are used to record vcenter to OSP.

So the old entries will not be a problem for the other components.

ever since the webclient service, you can remove users from the application:

Log webclient with [email protected] the first web client.

Under setting up users and groups, under the users Application tab, you can see all the application registered users.

To identify that one to remove

for vcenter, check the file C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\ssoregtool\vssso.properties.

Once you know the job vcenter ID, you can delete the ID of the other.

Ditto for the inventory service, the inventory service ID can be found in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\conf\sso.ini

For webclient files is C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphereWebClient\SsoRegTool\sso_conf\solution.ini

vCenter and webclient has a user record solution with sso, which must be removed from the command line. This is the KB for this: 2033238

again, you can use the above mentioned files to identify the one to delete.

  • vCops on another server vCenter Server

    Hello

It is possible and feasible too running on another server vCenter Server Foundation vCops and point it to one you want to listen to? We have vCenter servers in our environment, but I want to follow the one who is widely used, but want to install vCops on the environment of vCenter which use less. This is a possible solution and environments are connected over a WAN via Tunnel PTP.

    Hello

In my view, there no problem on the vCops tip to an another vCenter. Just make sure on the network connectivity and vCenter should be accessible via the network.

Also you can read the document deployment vCops on this topic.

Given the scenario of two or multiple vCenters connected successfully together, if one of the vCenters dies, can the survivors vCenters administer and manage the resources of the server vCenter dead?

No.... Related modes do not provide high availability to vCenters, just a single pane of glass with lens for example of ease of management and license sharing.

  • Can not see my server vCenter SSO is even recorded

    Hello

yesterday I upgraded vCenter 5.0 to vCenter 5.1.0a. I did everything what (I think!) as it was written in vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-51-upgrade-guide.pdf. But when I connected to the web client (https://vcenter:9443 / vsphere client) I do not see my server vcenter. So I connected to localhost:9443 to register my vCenter and I see that it is registered. So, what is the problem, why I do not see in the web client?

Connection to vCenter using the vSphere Client.

Right click to the next level and add permissions > Add in the Domain Admins or whatever AD group you use vCenter.

Then connect to the Web Client using domain\username and you should see vCenter.

    Hello

The plugin ws_admin trying to make field checks every 15 minutes, but given that your security server is not on the field these checks fail. It is completely harmless, but they should not run in first place, I raised this in their own country.

    Mike

    Edit:

There is a simple solution for this in 5.1.x:

Under the current registry key HKLM\Software\VMware, Inc. \VMware VDM\plugins\wsnm\admin, create a new key named Params, and under that a new DWORD value named InitiateDomainChecks with 0 data. Once set, you will need to restart the VMware View Security Server service for the change to take effect.

  • Recompose + pool stuck in Admin view

    Hi all

So I hate to list the many questions/problems, we are affected by all grouped together, but we are sure to have questions that I feel should not occur.

And please note that I started working with VMware, so I'm not an expert, just trying to learn best practices.

    View environment:

    7 host ESX - mvn1 - mvn7 (v4.1 u1)

    2 servers connection - mvc1 + mvc2

1 security Server - mvs1 (with hope to put in place a second shortly)

    1 replica server - mvr1

Shared storage between all hosts via iSCI

They are as follows (and any help what do I get on part or all of the questions would be greatly appreciated):

    A. first of all, I noticed that it takes more than one hour to clone a machine model/create a Pool of 1 VM / create linked Clone pool. Size of the model is about 30g. I've seen articles indicating that this is normal, it just seems like we want to optimize it a little more to have 'a' VMs created more quickly.

    B. in the admin view, I have a pool that seems an orphan and will remove itself from the view of the pool. Therefore, there are 5 mV in this pool who have the message Error (Missing). All attempts to eliminate the pool or the VMs do not work. Ive tried the SVIClone command without success (although it said that it completed successfully). This occurred after only a bad call. When recomposition, I can't not done properly and some of my virtual machines have been removed from the VC but kept in admin view. Now, I can't get rid of them.

    C. in this sense, can someone please confirm that these are appropriate measures to recompose the pools for updates/hotfixes:

    1. ask to master model of loan. Make sure that VM is off.  (Decline of the area or to keep it on the field when taking snapshots and creating LC pool?)

    2. create the snapshot of the model

    3. follow the wizard in view and instant install Linked Clone pool - first selection

4 replica is created and child VM appear in function image parent

    To redial:

    1. create the second snapshot with parent amended template

    2. in the Admin view, crop, and select new snapshot

    3 recompose

4 remove the first snapshot and keep only the second.

When recomposition, the names of DNS, the domain of the virtual machine is turned on, rights, all should remain the same and no affected correct? All applications (ex: Outlook) should stay with the game of profile information?

    Thanks for any assistance,

    r.

  • Recommendation for disaster recovery on the spot for a single server ESX from VMware vSphere 4?

I'm exploring setting up a new Dell server running ESX 4 vSphere VWware and wonder what is a good solution to allow a recovery solution disaster on-site in the event of complete failure of the server?  At the very least, I think that I would need a server similar to the site, but not sure if vCenter or what solution would allow the ability to quickly recover virtual machines, I had running on this single server?

    Thank you

Only for simple cases of storage shared. Veeam does not free ESXi support, but you can actually buy vSphere Essentials (3 guests more a vCenter) for a total of $ 500.

  • Built a new server vcenter, simple as moving the hosts?

Hi, one of my clients is running ESX 3.5 U4 with Virtual Center 2.5 U4. We intend to upgrade their environment to vSphere this weekend. The server vcenter 2.5 right now is running underpowered, so they decided to deploy vcenter 4 on a new, more powerful box rather than upgrade existing installation. I built the server and installed vcenter 4 using their license key. My plan for this weekend seems simple enough, but I couldn't find this specific scenario anywhere in the guide of upgrade provided by vmware, so I thought I just would make sure:

    1. disable HA and DRS on current ESX cluster

    2. Unplug each host in turn of the bunch. (leave the cluster running in case of a need to roll back)

    3. Add each host in turn to a newly created on the new vcenter server cluster 4.

    4. turn on the DRS and HA services on cluster vcenter 4

    5. use of the upgrade Manager to upgrade each host ESX 4.

Am I missing something? Thank you.

After correcting the ESX host, address to Virtual Machines

Addressing guests ESX with Update Manager summary

In the Update Manager, create a database upgrade ESX host

On the References tab and select groups, upgrade of the baselines, click on create in the upper right corner

    Name: ESX 4.0

    Base Type: upgrade host

ESX upgrade iso: Browse for downloaded ESX 4.0 ISO

Set this line of base to your hosts

Scan of hosts against the base line

Tackle the hosts against base - * Note that Update Manager controls the application of the ISO you have downloaded and created a basic manual for running the ESX upgrade.  Update Manager is no longer just for the patches.

    Address to virtual machines

Select the tab 'reference levels and groups '.

    Select view planning for: VMs/SAV

    Under groups, select Create

The database name: VM Upgrade vSphere hardware and tools

In the new Group Wizard, select "Updates"

Select "VM Hardware to match the host"

Select "VMware Tools upgrade to host of the Match"

Come on in "inventory - models and virtual computers ' view

The leveling refers to virtual machines, you want to update - may fix the object data center level to apply to all virtual machines

Scan for update - can do on the subject of data center to all virtual machines at the same time

Clean up - can select a subfolder or individual to run VMs update process gradually

  • Connection of multiple instances of ColdFusion 10 to a single server Apache 2.2

It is replicated from site "Server failure" StackOverflow. The CF community is under represented, so I post here also.  Sorry for "cross-post".

It's on Windows 7 Home Premium edition.

I had two instances of ColdFusion 10 (update 2): "cfusion" (the default) and "scratch."

I had a single instance of Apache 2.2 running.

In Apache, I've set up two virtual servers, each of which must be served by another instance of ColdFusion.

Each CF instance serves files through an internal web server to Tomcat. Apache serves as vanilla HTML files too. If instances of CF and two virtual servers separately work OK.

I can get wsconfig.exe to connect either of the CF instances to the Apache Server and serve files via Apache and this instance CF.

However I don't find a way to connect the second instance of CF at Apache, so that two instances of CF are connected, each serving one of the virtual servers. WSConfig doesn't seem to understand the concept of "multiple instances of CF", and the changes it brings to the httpd.conf (via mod_jk.conf) does not seem to be implemented so as to take account of multiple instances of CF, speaking to a single instance of Apache, or several virtual servers. I will admit not being fairly confident with mod_jk (or even really httpd.conf) operation to be able to guess if I can change things to make it work.

If I try to add the second instance of CF using WSConfig, I received a message "the web server is already configured for ColdFusion. Whatever it is... not the instance of ColdFusion - what I want to connect to. If I remove the connector in any instance is already connected, I can connect and then a no problems. Not that this helps, but it demonstrates that the CF can connect to Apache.

All of this used to be relatively straight line fwd under older versions of CF and JRun :-(

The docs just I found are on the page "Connect multiple Apache virtual servers on a web server to a single ColdFusion Server" (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/10.0/Admin/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbf364104-7fd 5 html), but that precisely only addresses a single instance of CF. There is no equivalent page for several instances of CF.

I hope a little I can move some of the config of mod_jk in my virtual host entries in httpd - vhosts.conf (that's how it used to work for JRun), but I have no idea what to put where.

I think I covered all the necessary info here? If not, sing and I'll add more. Thank you.

    Anyone?  See you soon.
