Recompose + pool stuck in Admin view

Hi all

So I hate to list the many questions/problems, we are affected by all grouped together, but we are sure to have questions that I feel should not occur.

And please note that I started working with VMware, so I'm not an expert, just trying to learn best practices.

View environment:

7 host ESX - mvn1 - mvn7 (v4.1 u1)

2 servers connection - mvc1 + mvc2

1 security Server - mvs1 (with hope to put in place a second shortly)

1 replica server - mvr1

Shared storage between all hosts via iSCI

They are as follows (and any help what do I get on part or all of the questions would be greatly appreciated):

A. first of all, I noticed that it takes more than one hour to clone a machine model/create a Pool of 1 VM / create linked Clone pool. Size of the model is about 30g. I've seen articles indicating that this is normal, it just seems like we want to optimize it a little more to have 'a' VMs created more quickly.

B. in the admin view, I have a pool that seems an orphan and will remove itself from the view of the pool. Therefore, there are 5 mV in this pool who have the message Error (Missing). All attempts to eliminate the pool or the VMs do not work. Ive tried the SVIClone command without success (although it said that it completed successfully). This occurred after only a bad call. When recomposition, I can't not done properly and some of my virtual machines have been removed from the VC but kept in admin view. Now, I can't get rid of them.

C. in this sense, can someone please confirm that these are appropriate measures to recompose the pools for updates/hotfixes:

1. ask to master model of loan. Make sure that VM is off.  (Decline of the area or to keep it on the field when taking snapshots and creating LC pool?)

2. create the snapshot of the model

3. follow the wizard in view and instant install Linked Clone pool - first selection

4 replica is created and child VM appear in function image parent

To redial:

1. create the second snapshot with parent amended template

2. in the Admin view, crop, and select new snapshot

3 recompose

4 remove the first snapshot and keep only the second.

When recomposition, the names of DNS, the domain of the virtual machine is turned on, rights, all should remain the same and no affected correct? All applications (ex: Outlook) should stay with the game of profile information?

Thanks for any assistance,

r.

Here are the instructions for connecting to ADAM

  • Connect to the computer hosting your VMware View connection server through VMware Infrastructure Client or Microsoft RDP.
  • Open the ADAM Active Directory Service Interfaces Editor.
  • In a Windows Server 2003, click Start > programs > ADAM > ADAM ADSI Edit.
  • In a Windows Server 2008, click Start > all programs > administrative tools > ADSI Edit.
  • Right-click ADAM ADSI Edit , and then click on connect to.
  • Verify that Select or type a domain or server is selected, and the destination points to localhost.
  • Select the distinguished name (DN) or naming context , and then type dc = vdi, vmware, dc = int = dc.

As far as questions of fact composer composer account have the correct permissions to AD.   Did you look in the logs of composer within the guest to see if you can get all the information from there?

  • View pool stuck to remove

    Morning,

We have a pool of VMware stuck in the phase of suppression, and it generates a lot of errors in the event log.  I followed this KB article http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1008658 and the query is not displayed results associated with this pool.  We run VMware View 5.0.0.  There is no virtual machines associated with this pool in vSphere, he comes to be stubborn and will not erase.

    Any ideas here?

I followed the KB linked above to connect to the DB ADAM and went to the table of roles of server and manually deleted my stuck pool.  Worked!

  • new machines in specialized pool stuck in step of customization

Any new machine in a pool specialist, we have not finish customization. I noticed that the machine names do not change when they are deployed from the template and that there is an odd line "this machine is not configured by a server connection view" in the newspapers of the agent to view. Also the agent view never gets detected. Verify that the virtual machine can see the connection to the server and it can. This problem has been difficult to diagnose, because after a certain amount of time I'm locked out of the machine because the admin account becomes invalid (even though I told it to activate in the specifications of sysprep customization file). Since the machine is not on the field, none of our accounts of field work and I cannot remote access to c$ because the local administrator account is disabled.

Things have really wonky in our environment when our admins network changed all passwords Server/Admin. not sure if this is related or not. We had to get new information of identification within the view, but maybe we missed something? Existing unspecialized pools work normal. If I recompose a pool of the snapshot, the model is built since I don't have any problems but I also use a quick preparation. Checked the account used by the spec of customization to join the machine to the domain works correctly.

Thus, at least in this case the store disabled windows caused the outcome. What I find weird because we did it on physical machines without any problems syspreping. Challenge all MAK stuff since we use the volume keys and really don't need to worry about counties rearm (we get 999)

  • Admin view assigned to a single server vCenter with 4 users

Hello.   We have a connection with a server vCenter Server view.  Our problem is that we have this server a vCenter figure 4 times on the View Manager Configuration. Servers page.  Each instance has a unique user ID.  I was told that it is a bad habit.  We use View Manager 4.0.

Specifically, let's say our vCenter Server is called Coloradoand our area is called CO.  In the view manager, we click Configuration, then servers.  We have listed under vCenter servers to the following:

    Colorado (service account)

    Colorado (CO\user1)

    Colorado (CO\user2)

    Colorado (CO\user3)

We have desktop computers using each of them.  We would like for all of our workstations to use the service account.  VCenter Server page is not editable in the dialog box change Desktop.  We would prefer not having to remove pools with undesirable elements and re-create the pools with the service account.  Is there a way to change the elements of the desktop configuration that is not editable in the dialog box change Desktop?

We will appreciate certainly no help.

    Thank you

    Shayne

OK, we ca take a shot at it.   Now I would like to test this on some pools that are not all that important, and would also save my ADAM database to see.

1: connect to the database of ADAM using dc = dc = vmware vdi, dc = int

2: Look under the ORGANIZATIONAL unit properties = and OU = VirtualCeter.

3: find VC failure to use and read the unique name

4: go to OU = ServerGroups and find the pool that you want to change

5: go to the properties of the pool to change and find the EAP-VCDN value.   Add the unique name of the instance of VC to use in this area.   Give it a minute or two and see if the correct instance is selected in admin mode.

Now, I'm sure that this is not supported by VMware at least not without having to open a ticket and I don't know if it's the only place wherever it needs to be changed.  I would test, test, and then test more before doing so on a pool of production.

  • creation or suppression pool stuck

    Hello

o am facing problem with my vmware view horizon when I try to create the pool he always stop in the commissioning process and without any update happens. also, it happens when I try to delete another pool still face long time problem and I deleted them manually. I'm just a question on the reason that made it happen, I don't have any update or changes on my servers.

I have 2 server connection (normal and replica)

vcompser installed on the vcenter Server

vcenter located on centralized data base SQL server and service for vcenter running and working.

I'm already normally working on my specialized basin and I can connect to the machine normally without any problem

    Hello spartakos80spartakos80,

Eventually a replication problem between 2 connection servers. Check the Eventvwr > Application and Services > Adam connects

If you find the replication problem try to force replication http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1021805

For a temporary fix please follow this http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2068381

If the problem persists, take a look at this kb http://. VMware.com/kb/2014488

According to my understanding, these items should solve your problem.

  • Is it possible to remove the disposable disc to a pool configuration in VMware View?

I would like to remove the option of disposable disc several persistent pools in VMware View Horizon 5.3.1 (where virtual machines are already using disposable disks); However, there doesn't seem to be a way to do this in the options of the pool. Is it possible to remove the disk otherwise option or should I remove the old pool and create a completely new without this option enabled?

I used disposable disk option seems to be to save storage space, but I discovered that disposable disks have been updated only when displaying launched a turning off the virtual machines in the pool (which never happens). I thought that disposable records updated each time that a client shutdown/restarted the VM... but which is not the case. Given this information, I would like to stop using disposable disks as they really may not confer any advantage the way our persistent virtual machines are configured.

Thanks in advance for any help!

OK, you're right... only the drive letter customization is allowed.

Now to answer your question, the one and only formally is to remove the pool by archiving all disks persistent (user data disk), and then create a pool with the same name (but without SDS).

In addition, select all the archived UDD and then click on, "recreate". All new desktop computers will be recreated with the new spec,

Another way (not officially committed / not sure of its effects)

EAP-SVIVmPersistentDiskSpec entry will be there to ADAM OR = database server groups (VMware KB: connecting to the Database View ADAM)

This entry will be there for disposable system that has a parameter "DiskUsage is SystemDisposable".

Upron deleting the corresponding entry * may * end configuring don't not the SSD for the supply of others.

  • Discover 5.2 recompose pool linked clone - Wait for user to logoff - refresh immediately after logoff - connected on VM never reconstruct after the closing session or refreshment.

Lets say, we have 20 clones related hen who has refresh immediately after logoff. 10 people are connected to VM 1-10. When plan us a restructuring of the entire pool, one would expect that VM 11-20 would recompose afterwards, as the newspaper of people out of 1-10 of Vm, the VM redial for the new replica. Instead, VM 1-10 are refreshing to a control point and recomposing replica ever again. It seems that when refresh after logging has not been defined, recompose work properly. These two elements are mutually exclusive?

    I guess that's what you're talking about?  http://KB.VMware.com/kb/2006707

If so, Yes, this is a known problem, updating of log will cancel and replace a Redial on newspaper.  I raise this issue until I got was blue and you have heard that it will be corrected in a future version

For now, I do it manually reconstructs in the pool > inventory tab > desktops (see composer details) > right-click on desktop > redial.  Usually, I do on a single desktop computer and let the replica to create and lots of then recomposed.  As recompose and selecting force their users to disconnect will do the trick also.

  • VM full Media Pool creation within the view

I used VDI for only 3 or 4 months now in my POC. I created essentially to persistent and not persistent related Clones. However, I would like to create a pool of media relying on full virtual machines. I tried a node 4, pool full VM media and only 1 of the 4 actually worked. Well 4 virtual machines have been created, work only 1 and 3 other computers virtual I can't connect to. I'm willing to bet THAT SYSPREP does not work correctly or something similar. I know that SYSPREP runs when I use use link-clone media pools.

SYSPREP does not during the stage of creation on a VM full media pool?

What step am I missing? I think one hoping this is an easy solution...

    Thank you community!

Open the vCenter client, click home, finding the administration section and then click on specification of customization Manager.   You can view, set and change the specifications here.   They in turn will appear in view to choose.

  • View of the horizon - cmd Powershell for Description

    Hello

    Currently using:

    5.2.0 build-987719

I had success by using the Get-DesktopVM and Get-pool for PowerShell cmdlets.  There is a cmdlet that will reveal the "Description" field that I can enter the pools on VM Admin view?  For example, if you navigate away from the Admin of VM window > inventory > pools > < poolID > is a Description field where we have notes on the pool.  I would like to retrieve this info so I can use it for further processing in additional systems.

Please let me know if you need more information.  Is attached a screenshot of the computer virtual Admin window and the area I'm worried.

    Too bad

The description field was actually available under Get-Pool.

  • View of the pool for laboratory network

We have a view environment in our production area however we have a distinct field of laboratory that consist of a stand-alone domain controller. We would like to be able to provide a VDI pool in our production environment for use in our lab environment. Of course, we do not want to allow full access and communication between the two areas. We do not want to create a separate environment together VDI in our laboratory. No one knows the better and safer to achieve this way? Our current environment consist of a server security, composer, appvolumes server and a connection to the server and replicates.

    KM

This seems possible. I haven't ' done myself, but you could set up a one-way trust between the domains of the AD and add the domain to the admin view. This feature of one-way trust was announced in view 6.2, so if you're not up to this version again, a two-way trust is required.

Something like this VMware View Composer, 2 Way Trusts are for the weak. Greg Carriger's blog

  • What will be appstack and the behaviour in writing over the horizon view refresh, recompose and re balance.

What will be appstack and the behaviour in writing during refresh recompose and re horizon balance discovers pool and desktop? have you ever face any problems, your recommendation, suggestion if all?.

Note: I am certainly intend to check it out in my lab environment, but your suggestions and recommendations are welcome.

I'm not sure have been your goal here, but here goes

anyway. When you refresh or recompose a machine, a user must first be disconnected, after that the machine can be recomposed, it's works the view.

If, for some reason, an appstack or an accessible volume in writing is still attached to a machine, if you crop or refresh the appstacks and writable volumes will be spare once the machine has been reconfiguring.

If you remove the device after use and the appstack and accessible volume in writing is still attached, writable volume will be deleted (because it is read/write) and appstack will be detached simply because it is read-only.

  • View 4.0 cannot create Auto Pool offices... Office VcFault composer

We run ESX 4.0.0 on our guests and we are conducting a demo of VMware View 4.0.  We try to create a pool of office automated using clones related with the composer of the VM.  However, when we create the pool and the composer tries to create a clone using the master Win XP VM we get an error in vCenter (a specified parameter was not correct. spec.snapshot).  In the console admin View 4, we get several ambiguous errors:
