Adobe CS6 file associations are all stripped

Used much CS6 association extensions open files;

After installing CS6 of previous extensions .prproj .ai .psd, I found broken and Windows 7 (64 bit) asked what program to open it with.

He would not give me the option of choosing what is obvious. So, I selected control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations and select Photoshop cs6 .exe and it would not assign it.

Even with several other files.

Even files I did fresh photoshop CS6 (64) he used to select or provide the opportunity to open with the program, with what he did. I must first of all, open the program and select the file inside the program.

Now Adobe Bridge CS6 shows all files with a Visual preview, but when I select the file says "windows cannot find 'C:\program file\adobe\adobe cs5 (64 bit) \photoshop.exe' make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

I somehow loosen the old extensions because cs5 is gone, but I can't seem to change the associations until some ghost of the residual cs5 registry still lives in my machine.

I googled the problem and many people have this problem but no real miracle seem apparent or they are incredibly draconian as wipe the disk and reinstall windows.

I see it already happened with some other updates on the forums that is cs4 cs5 years back.

It's my upgrade in 6th and I gave adobe the thousands and thousands of dollars, and why is this problem not get sent when another summer to complain about years and still not a viable solution is given.

This is a Registry fix for Win7 machines for the file association problem.

This from TinusHDCA user:

I installed Photoshop CS6, then found CS5 was always there. I thought, Hey, I don't have CS5, so I uninstalled CS5. then I discovered that Photoshop was no longer available in "Open with", when right clicking on an image...

I went into the registry, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed (by default) of "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit) \Photoshop.exe" '%1' to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) \Photoshop.exe" '%1' (so changed CS5 to CS6) - and now I see "Adobe Photoshop CS6" in my list 'Open with' when right-clicking on an image...

.lnk are shortcut files (shortcuts are usually what you have on your desktop and the start menu).  If inadvertently, you tried to right click on a shortcut and choose "open with...". ", you can breaking their properties.

Because the associations are complex and the registry can be dangerous, the best way to solve your problem is to use the system restore to fix system associations when returning parameters at the same time that they last worked properly.  Here's how:

1 - Hold down the Windows key and type R to open the Run dialog box.

    2 - paste in this command: %systemroot%\system32\rstrui.exe

3 - follow the instructions to restore your system at a time before, it was working fine.

  • virus jumble all my file associations and will not let me reset them... upgrading to windows 7 will overwrite everything on my comp. including viruses?

The virus is a popup window that said it was a windows xp security 2011.  I tried to end it in task several times Manager, then did a system restore.  After I did a system restore all my file associations were all mixed upward and every sense, I try to change the associations, it won't let me.  It doesn't let me even open system restore or something like that.

My question is if I install the full version of windows 7 (at the moment I have windows xp) to my computer it also will erase everything on my computer, including virus?  Thanks for any help I can get!

something special I have to do that if it is a laptop?

    I have a dell xps m140

I expect BugBatter to answer here... but since it's been several hours and it didn't:

before considering a change/upgrade of the operating system, you can check if you can solve the problem by following the directions/procedure listed here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=82696

before you say it cannot be done, take note of doing things exactly as specified... in particular, I would like to highlight the following points of special 3 which are:

    (1) If you are unable to download MBAM directly on the infected computer, you should download on another computer and then transfer it (via key) to the infected machine.

    (2) given that .exe files does not work on your computer, you will need to Rename the mbam-setup installation file . exe:

    mbam-setup. com:

    (3) Similarly, after installation of the MMFA, you will need to Rename it to mbam. exe for mbam. com in order to run it.

Keeping these 3 points in mind, go back and follow, step by step, the procedure in the above link.

NOTE: If Bugbatter here meets the time wherever you are reading this, then please follow all what she said which differs from my suggestion.

  • Cannot open Bridge CS6 file in PS CS6

Bridge cs6, my files will open in Windows photo or Live Photo Gallery Viewer.  When I go to 'Open with' in the file menu PS CS6 is not an option.  I know it must be simple, but it's driving me crazy and I can't get my pictures to open in PS when I double click on one of my tens of thousands of photos.

I just buy CS6 yesterday.  In addition, what I have to keep the Adobe CS6 file that is on my desk, or can I delete it now that the program is loaded?  He is 1.77 GB.  If I still need to reload PS, I can do it from the store on my account, right?  Even for the Adobe file that is on my desk for the LR4 download a few months previously.  Also, I left checked on 64 download and the regular PS PS6.  I have windows 7 I only need 64-bit.  Why is the other CS6 PS (no 64)?  Do I need?  Should I uninstall it?  Also, should I uninstall CS4 and CS5?  They're all still sitting there, with LR3 (I now use the LR4).  I have huge and several hard drives, so space is not a review.  But I just want to clean it up a bit.

Lots of questions here, let's see what I can add.

The problem of file goes to associations of type file/Preferences.  You should have the CS6 selected option to the default extension.  Can try first the option on the bottom button to set the default settings.

If the 1.77 g you do file refers to is the one you downloaded and used for the installation you can delete.  It is a wise choice to save it to a DVD first so you'll get where you need it in the future.  Also record the serial number in place course.  Acutally safe isn't the right word, the need to put in place where you can find if you need next year.  HD may fail.

There are still third party plug-ins that do not work in mode 64-bit, so the 32-bit version.  There is also no 64 no bits TWAIN so some like always to use for parsing.

Some users experience file association and other problems with an uninstall of previous versions.  So, it is more prudent to let them be.

If you want to clean up a little to resist the urge to move all Adobe programs once is installed.  It can really foul upward.

  • WLM file associations associations of system

I am running Win XP and Office WLM. I have Office 2003 is installed and all file associations are defined to use Office 2003. If I open a .doc from a folder, it opens in Word 2003 without problem.

I installed a trial of Office 2010, to try it. This has obviously changed all my file associations, but I changed them back because I didn't want to use Office 2010 by default (it's so slow to start!).
However, if I open a WLM desktop accessory, it always use Office 2010 to open the file. Why? Why it does not use the default file association?
I know that I can save an attachment on my HARD drive and open from there (and it uses Word 2003 correctly), or I could uninstall Office 2010 trial and he will return to Office 2003 (I hope!), but I'd rather have WLM use default file associations.
Is there a way I can force WLM to use Word 2003 high of the page open .doc files?

  • user-specific file associations

The file associations in Windows 7 are the same for all users, or can be specific to the user and stored in user profiles? What I could find, the HKCR subtree which seems to contain information about file associations is extracted from the HKLM\Software and HKCU\Software.  If HKCU\Software contains file associations, then maybe they can be user-specific, but if the file associations are stored only in the HKLM hive, I expect to be universal for all users.

The answer is 'yes' at the same time.  If the user doesn't have individual preferences for file association management, the setting of the local computer is used instead.

  • During the recording of my Adobe CS6 InDesign document, why he recorded in Adobe Illustrator format?

When I click on "Save as", it seems as if it will record it in indd format, but in fact he recorded in a document of AI.  However, when I double click the icon, it tries to open in Illustrator, but then I get an error message indicating that it cannot open the document.

This means that your file associations in Windows are confusing - all the .indd files are assigned to open in Illustrator. Shutdown InDesign, open any file that you know is an InDesign file, click the right button and select Properties, and it will say "opens with: Illustrator.» Click change, and then choose InDesign in the window and make sure the 'Always open with' box at the bottom is checked.

That's how it's supposed to work, anyway, when the file associations are messed up in Windows sometimes it takes much more work to remedy. But give that a shot first.

  • Unable to open Adobe PDF files

Hello, I would be grateful for any input on a problem I have with my new computer. When I try to open or to view Adobe PDF files, they are not open.
When you open a PDF in a Web site, I get the error message that internet Explorer has stopped working. Does not display a Web site.

    Have you tried that?

"Configure the browser to open PDF files in Acrobat window.

If you want the browser to open PDFs in a separate Acrobat window, to set the browser to use Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application. Then, when you select a PDF file in Internet Explorer or AOL, the browser opens the PDF file in an Acrobat window instead of the browser window.

To configure the browser to use Acrobat or Adobe Reader to open PDF files:

    1. quit Internet Explorer or AOL.

    2. launch Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

    3 Choose Edition > Preferences.

    4. Select Internet in the list on the left.

5 disable the display option IN the browser, and then click OK.

    6. restart Internet Explorer or AOL.

Note: The next time you select a link to a file PDF, the browser may ask you to open or save the file. If you choose to open the file, the browser opens the file in the support application that you specified. If you choose to save the file, the browser downloads the file to the hard drive.

  • Cannot install Adobe CS6: reboot of the machine may be pending

I just bought a new laptop with Windows 8 OS. After downloading the Adobe CS6 files, I extracted the files on my desktop. When I tried to install, install Adobe says that it has detected that a reboot of the machine may be waiting. It is recommended that I quit the installer, reboot my computer and try to reinstall. I did, and the same note appears. Choose to ignore and operating facility?

Another faced the similar problem month someone last (in one of the threads), and he has ignored the note and continues the installation. Then his Photoshop cannot work. Others have suggested using the cleaning of Adobe for him tool but no resolution of this thread. In any case, mine is a new laptop, and there is nothing to clean up. I tried Cleanup but nothing to cleanup.

    What should I do?

    Thank you.

    Siang Yu

I received the same notification when I installed CS6 on my machine.  I restarted Windows and got the same message, and then choose 'Ignore' and the software successfully installed.
