Adobe reader - defective module error: Comctl32.dll

Running Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1.
Computer is ACER Aspire - laptop 4830TG with 8 GB of RAM, processor intel i5 - 2430M.

Not sure when this happened, but I am unable to open Adobe Reader 10.  The error indicates the fault module to be Comctl32.dll, specifically,

C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.Windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.17514_none_41e6975e2bd6f2b2\Comctl32.dll

The size is 619KB

Player will initialize, but off vacuum and freeze as soon as he tries to do anything, including the posting of a menu bar.  I reinstalled drive several times and took first.  It seems that the issue is really the Comctl32.dll file.  There are so many versions on my system is unable to find a way to tell if it is corrupt.
Virus scan shows no risk.
Cannot restore far enough to make a difference.

Does anyone else have a problem like this?

Any other suggestions?  I really appreciate one, hoping you have another for the flash player or I can't watch all the great you tube movies.

Nothing else. that I can help. A Google search reveals some results.

Get notified that updates are ready to download from Adobe, but when I try to download they say error. Invalid drive H:\. I have a H drive in recent years, but it does not give me the ability to place on my C or G discs. How can I get these updates installed?

Remove the Adobe Reader software. Reset. Reinstall drive C. discount to zero. Look for the updates.

Or better yet, don't reinstall Adobe and use much more compact and easy to Foxit Reader Windows

  • Cannot install Adobe Reader 9.3 Error Message 1402

I made several attempts to download the Adobe Reader updates, but still receive the Error Message 1402 every time.  I have recently deleted adobe all products from my computer and reinstalled each successfully, with the exception of Adobe Reader 9.3.

I can't get this download and installation due to receive Error 1402: could not open key.  I am the administrator on this computer, and no one else uses or has anyone used except me.

Unfortunately, the article above applies to Windows XP and Windows 2000, not Windows Vista.  But this led me to the following:

Here is an article on how to change the permissions on the key of Vista (and XP but skip this part):http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405573.html#OnWindowsVista.  Although for another Adobe product, the rules relating to the modification of permissions are the same.  I am sure that your error message included more than you posted - it would have included also the key to the problem.  That's what you need to find the section of the registry to change.  Once the change is complete, you must have permissions and should be able to install.  To install a right-click on the executable setup file downloaded and click Run as administrator.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Update of Adobe Reader has no error 1327

When Adobe Reader tries to update, it fails. Message says: reader of 1327 not valid error H...  What can I do to fix this? I don't have a player "H"...

Something you your registry database points to the H: drive and the installation/upgrade program has a problem with that.

  • Cannot install Adobe reader XI due to msvcr110.dll

    Hello world

I am German, new to this forum and don't know if I can post my problem here in my native language, so I better try first English (and I also apologize right now for my not so perfect English):

I am running windows 8.1 64-bit on my computer and I can't install adobe reader XI on my system. Try to do it, I get the answer that the installation is not possible due to problems with msvcr110.dll which must be installed first. I tried to install the version of Player X instead and got the same answer.

To resolve this problem, I already asked google and also tried to find a solution to all the discussions here, but without any success. Although this file is already on my computer, I downloaded it following once more an advice that I found and after unpacking the zip file, I moved the msvcr110.dll downloaded to the c.\windows\system32 place. Before you save it, I got the information that such a file is already there. Nevertheless, I was overwriting the old and rebooted the system. The problem is always the same. Then I tried to install the environment of Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Reditributable (x 64) Version 11.0.61030.0 runtime (update 4) und restarted the system, once more. But this doesen´t solve my problem either, it is still not fixed.

Now, I have no more ideas how to deal with this problem and I hope someone here can help me. Only to read pdf files, I could move to the foxit reader, but recently I found a very interesting plug in for my chrome browser that allows to convert a Web site directly in a PDF file unfortunately this sheet in doesen´t work without an adobe on the system drive.

I already thank you in advance for your support

    kruemel_73

First of all, never download the DLL files individually.  They may not match your system environment, and also that they are not properly registered after download.

With regard to the redistributable C++; on a 64-bit system, you must install both x 86 and x 64 versions.

But what about your problem, I don't know why this is happening, especially since you had already msvcr110.dll already on your system.

Maybe the http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ offline installation program will work better?  If not, I'll give you the download address for the MSI installer, which can work even better.

Questions for users confronted with this question:

    1. do you have the preview pane enabled in file Explorer? If so, you can temporarily disable it to see if the problem goes away? On Windows 8, in Explorer, go to the view tab, and if you press the button "Preview Pane", UN-press it. On Windows 7, upwards to the right (to the left of the help icon) there is a button "show preview pane." UN-press it.

    2. ensure that the following directories exist on your machine. If this isn't the case, please create them:

    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\ToolsSearchCacheAcro

    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\ToolsSearchCacheRdr

    Replace USERNAME with your username.

Is - do this 1 or 2 to solve this problem?

The file you are trying to open is (you can see from the name) a BMP, PDF files no file. Adobe Reader can only open PDF files, just so stop trying to open it with Adobe Reader. The app, users of Windows for BMP files is painting.
