After changing a Firefox latest, my favorites have disappeared, and just "restore from backup" gives "not able to process the backup file".
I tried the tool maintenance for places.sqlite and even delete the file so firefox it rebuilt. But no joy. New version is 36.0.1. Don't you remember an old man, but he was old enough. Five available json files, but none works
I found my own answer.
I copied the file favorite .json on a USB key. Led to another PC that still had an old Firefox and successfully it read. The exported as HTML and postponed retrospectively & imported.
If someone else this problem is not lucky enough to have another PC with old Firefox, I'm willing to bet that you could just install Chrome rather & he'd willingly read.

I opened Firefox and my favorites are gone from the bookmarks bar and now he broke down 4 times and froze twice upwards.
cookmartyn3,
Sorry, you have problems with Firefox and your bookmarks.
I can assure you that Firefox is not supposed to lose bookmarks when it updates. I can also say with confidence that most of the users do not lose bookmarks in Firefox updates. I certainly have not.

I tried to restore, and nothing is there. Please help me find where they might be saving too.
One possible cause is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

It seems that Kyocera has a driver for Windows 7 which you can download from their support site (download file - make sure the file name and where it is being recorded and then search for and double-click on the downloaded file to install it): http://usa.kyoceramita.com/americas/jsp/Kyocera/resource_details.jsp?pid=13988&rid=22655

After the upgrade of Firefox all my favorites icons disappear.
After release of the next version of Firefox, all my favorites have lost their icons. To restore an icon I have to click this bookmark and load a web pade again. Brings back an icon.
But I have so many icons that I can't go just by each of them.
I appriciate any help on this matter.
Greetings,

As soon as I opened the Firefox Start Page, all my favorites have been posted on the left side. I accidentally hit something, and now all my favorites have disappeared.
For your safety, you must do a lot of software updates. You may be holding back for some reason any. Let us know what it is because there may be a fix or workaround now.
To update to the 19 of Firefox, you can use the "Check for updates" button here:
Menu help > about Firefox
To update your Adobe PDF and Shockwave Flash plugins and check for other obsolete plugins, you can use this page:
https://www.Mozilla.org/en-us/pluginCheck/
I know it's tedious, but don't let slip too long or you might get up to have to rebuild everything (the curse of your lack of backups, and if you do regular backups).

I use firefox 16 on windows 7 with Xmarks and now all of my favorites have disappeared.
I recently started using Xmarks with Firefox 16 on Windows 7 platform. I got some kind of error message (I think only of Xmarks) about "bookmarks". I clicked on the message to solve the problem and zapp all my favorites have disappeared. I found my profile "bookmarksbackup" file but can not open it. I guess I need a JSON Viewer. I downloaded an opensource Viewer that looked good, but still not get anything that looks remotely to my old favorites. I thought I might be the victim of a virus, but I'm probably just the victim of my ignorance.
In addition, if the bookmarksbackup files folder it contains, you can try to restore one of it via Firefox Bookmarks (Alt + B) > show all bookmarks > import and backup. See also this.
Alternatively, you can also check your account of Xmarks for bookmarks. If it had been transferred successfully in the past, you can install Xmarks, connect to Xmarks Firefox, and then download the backup.

All my favorites have disappeared on both machines. I tried to use the restore function it wasn't working, and I tried to update my Plugins and for some reason any Firefox would not record updates. How can I restore my favorites?
Problems with bookmarks and history does not properly can be caused by a corrupted database places.sqlite file.

Some favorites have disappeared from my bookmarks bar (after the update?)
Basically, the question says it all.
All of a sudden a lot of my favorites have disappeared from my bookmarks bar. I can't find them anywhere.
I used to have many of them, some in directories/folders, some 'free' - but never more than two branches down.
If you open the dialog box (Ctrl + Shift + b) library and explore there, can you find in a strange place?
If they're really gone, it is possible that the database file that stores the bookmarks and history is corrupted. COR - el has a few suggestions for it here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/956965#answer-428511
Alternatively, you can immediately make a backup copy of your folder bookmarkbackups. This folder can be placed using:
Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.
I suggest you copy (not move, simply copy) the folder bookmarkbackups set to another location, such as your Documents or a USB flash drive. In this way time passes, you will always have older backups to restore if necessary.

Some of the icons in front of my favorites have disappeared. HUH?
Some of the icons in front of my favorites have disappeared. Others are still there. What can I do to get back them?
Try to restore with this extension:
If this does not help then it is possible that there is a problem with the places.sqlite file that stores the bookmarks and history.

You must use CheckPlaces once after you remove files in places.
