After Reboot virtual machine - VM not no projection in host, orphaned in vCenter

Hi all

I had a server 2 k 8 running as an IIS server.  While using it last night, he hung up on me and I couldn't restart it.  I went in vCenter and restarted from there and the VM looks ok to stop, but he would not return to the top.  I tried to start but got an error.  Then in the host ESX and virtual machine was no longer available at the level of the host and on the vCenter, it showed also orphaned.

I did a reading online and follow a guide who was told to remove the orphaned VM and add the VMDK as a new virtual machine.  After these steps, my VM boots now beyond the BIOS screen, and starts to load windows then get a quick second BSOD split, then the VM restarts and gives me the possibility of:

-Start windows normally

-Windows startup recovery

If I boot normally, it makes a loop in the same cycle, if I do a start of the recovery, it gives me the normal windows recovery tools.  In the diskpart tool, I see the end as well as the disk partitions.

Can someone the tsar me in the right direction? My guess is that something in the files of the virtual computer is corrupted, causing windows back his process of starting because of a hardware problem... ?

I have attached a few newspapers too.  Thanks for the tips!

If this is the only virtual machine affected, then this is probably the OS corruption. You can deploy a new virtual machine and migrate data on existing records to the new (just to mount the VMDK on the new virtual machine) or go to the effort of the diagnosis and repair of the system.

If you are going to do the later, then start by identifying the BSOD error - is is a mistake of 7B? (please post a screenshot). You can start in safe mode? If you can, it would be from a local value of core dumps are configured so that you can run the. DMP file via WinDbg to debug the stop error... This will give you information about this driver etc. is causing the crash dump.

See you soon,.

  • Virtual machine does not start after restoring from Time Machine to the new Imac

I got my IMac replaced by Apple, after that they could not fix the old one.  They did a full restore from a Time Machine backup.  The virtual machine does not open now.   When I navigate to the file to try to open the virtual machine at the VMware logo in the bottom right of the icon displayed with large yellow exclamation appears on the icon?  Anyone encountered this problem before.  I'll take the Imac in Saturday if I can not solve.  The machine has the same size as before.  There are a few aspects of sharing with the Mac application miss me?

According to the MacVirt.vmdk folder, you have the right number of segments of shared disk so you should be able to create a new VM by pointing to the disc in the new VM Wizard by pointing to the MacVirt.vmdk file.

Note: After you create the new Virtual Machine, I would not suggest the Virtual Machine to stop, pause and close merge and then move all *.vmdk files in the package of the virtual machine, and then manually change the computer configuration files virtual .vmx and change the path to a little to view the MacVirt.vmdk file.  In this way, everything is in one package and is easier to maintain.

  • Virtual machines do not get IP address from the DHCP server

Hello! I just spend Xenserver to ESXi. Created a couple of virtual machines and none of them gets an IP address from our DHCP server (DHCP server is a physical PC), and instead, they get a number of internal 192.168.x.y allowing connection to the internet.

Looks like a way to do this is to install a virtual machine that is a router, as M0n0wall, and route traffic to connect to the external network and finally to access internet. But this is not what I have to do.

I need to have virtual machines that are server to get an IP reserved for our DHCP server, and then our local windows client should be able to access it directly.

I searched on google and forums for this but I can't seem to find how to configure virtual machines to directly belong to our local network.

I thought that VMware would have a simpler way to do so than XenServer, but I was stuck on this one day now and really frustrated as I get not before with this project, stuck on this little problem... sigh...

    Thanks for your help.

    GER.

ESXi does not IP addresses to the virtual machines it host - if the virtual machines are not able to access your physical network than that of the thw two virtual machines acts as a DHCP server - now to the question of network - if you are not able to reach the virtual machines on the physical network or achieve fitness network virtual machines , then there is a problem with the physical connection to the ESXi host, possibly the configuration of the physical port that connects to the - is a way to test this theory to assign an IP address on the same network that the management port - if you are able to access the virtual machine, then you know that the problem is with the switch port.

  • VSphere 5.1: Virtual Machine does not share host RAM

    Hello

    I use a 5.1 Vsphere license (Vsphere 4 update)

I am facing a problem after the upgrade, virtual machines do not RAM

As if I have two machine with 2 GB of RAM in total then use of the RAM on the HOST becomes 4 GB but really active memory usage is about 1 GB only.

It wasn't a problem in Vsphere 4 it shows an active memory as the HOST memory usage but in Vsphere 5 Virtual machine share not RAM and book full RAM when turned on.

Maybe there's some settings to enable sharing of memory or to disable this full booking of RAM.

    Hello

The changes are the VMkernel is using large pages to back up virtual memory pages.

For more information, this article by Duncan will provide enough information and links to other articles on this topic:

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2011/01/26/re-large-pages-gabvirtualworld-frankdenneman-forbesguthrie/

In short VMkernel will place pages issued by the VM in large pages on the physical memory to speed up the memory access. Large pages are used when the physical CPU that has functions EPT (Intel) or IVR (AMD).

Does anyone have an idea of what I need to do?

    Welcome to this community!

in some special cases the virtual machines enter State does not. In this case, we have to kill the VM process to bring the virtual machine online.

the following KB explains different methods to do the same thing.

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1014165

Follow the steps under "using the ESXi 5.0 esxcli command to turn off a virtual machine.

I would recommend contact VMware support, given that the steps above are a little off destructive.

  • is it possible that an application on a virtual machine is faster than in its host?

To measure the performance of our software on vmware, compare us the performance of vm compared to its host machine.

We found that performance on three different machines showed a very different behavior, of 50% slower at 10% slower.

And the strangest thing is that there is a single machine, his vm is faster than its host.

Any help on the possible reasons is appreciated!

    Thank you!

    Additional information:

    The application is time CPU,.

CentOS 6.2 for the vm and host,

    VMware Workstation 10.0.1 build-1379776

    Hardware Dell R720VM vs host
    Xeon 2 CPU E5-2620 0 @ 2.00 GHz 12-Core, 32 GB-50%
    Xeon 2 E5-2650 V2 2.60 GHz, 16 Core CPU, 32 GB-10%
    Xeon 2 E5-2630 0 @ 2.30 GHz, 12 Core CPU, 64 GB20%

After eliminating the various factors, we finally understood the cause: hyper threading

After that we switched off the hyper threading, everything became normal, the slower and faster virtual machines showed same performance.

Host performance has even improved, about 10-20% faster than the virtual machine.

Hope that this experience and this information can be useful for others in the future...

  • Move a virtual machine to turn off between two hosts, shared storage

    Dear Experts,

Please guide me for the next case. There are two hosts of Esxi, host 1 is Esxi 4.0 and host 2 is Esxi 4.1. There are store data SAN storage that is visible to both hosts.

I watched solard winds VM monitor utility that hosting 2 consumes 90% of the memory while its processor is ok. On host 1 is normal. So, I want to spend only a few VM of to host 1. So please correct me if what I think are OK. I will turn off the virtual machine to be moved from host 2. Then I it will remove host 2 inventory. Then on host 1, I'll go to the data store in the folder that VM and do a right click on the file 'say add to the inventory' and now I'm going to see this virtual machine in the inventory of the host list, just turn on and everything is perfect, is this correct?

Second question on the same hosts, there are a few other data stores that are visible to a host. As if this is the case there is a virtual machine on a data store that is visible to host 2 and I want to spend this VM to host 1 to reduce load on host 2. How to move this virtual machine because this data store is not visible to host 1? Will I have to copy this VM files in a data store that is visible to host 1? If YES then what real required to copy files?

    Kindly help me.

    Kind regards

From your description I m assuming that you use not vCenter to manage your hosts, correct?

If you have a store of data shared between two hosts you can do the steps you descripte (power off, remove the inventory etc.).

For your second case there are several ways, it depends on where you want to place the virtual machine in the future. Wouldn't be on the shared data store that already exists or can in the local data store on the other host? Or is there an option to also display the current data store to host 1?

If you want to copy the VM files copy the whole folder of it.

    Kind regards

    Mario

  • The virtual machine must be moved to another host?

vCenter 4 runs on a virtual machine on vHost1. When you try to run an update for the virtual server that I have this message.

The host has a VM VMware vCenter Update Manager or VMware installed vCenter vCenter. The virtual machine must be moved to another host for the remediation process to move forward.

Before moving running virtual machine to a different host to vCenter, I thought I should ask if there is a better way to update vHost1?

Thanks for your help. This is all quite new to me.

Use VMotion to move your vCenter guest, you'll be fine.  Or if you have any DRS value fully automated when restore you one or more hosts DRS will move all of your guests.

  • Windows XP does not correctly load after installing Virtual Machine

    Original title: System Restore

I recently tried to install a Machine Microsoft VM on myWindows XPcomputer. By getting a message "Please reboot", I clicked on "restart now." The computer turned off and running back. When he steps back, the loading screen appears, and then the blueHP Inventscreen appeared (which is normal). But then something odd happened. A small window appears in the left corner of the screen. It read: "loading your personal settings: System Restore, Control Panel, etc...", or something of the sort. The default software supplied with the computer window appeared. The blue HP Invent screen continued to remain in the shadows.

When I eventually clicked the 'x' in the antivirus window, the taskbar, start button, etc. appeared, but most of my desktop icons were missing. Then I noticed that the blue screen of theHP Ivent became my wallpaper. Puzzled, I navigated to the 'System Restore' window. Then, several windows titled 'Welcome in Windows XP' and "Turn Windows XP" appeared. I have navigated to System Restore window and chose a system restore point (which was the day before) and continued the process of system restore. The system was supposed to be restored. At startup, the same window in the left corner appeared; the antivirus window is appeared. The system restore window is appeared then, confirming that the system restore was successful (which it wasn't). Everything was the same way before I had done the system restore.

In a panic, I went to Internet Explorer. The browser then showed up and greeted me with messages as if I had never used, and [if not all] most of my favorites had been withdrawn. Then, I assumed that my computer has been restored to factory settings. But of course, in opposition to my thesis, my Antivirus AVG software  that I had installed before all these problems occurred, was still on my computer. My iTunes was also still on my computer, but my entire library has been destroyed, and when I double click the icon, it asked me to install the iTunes software (as if I had just downloaded on my computer).

I procceeded to try to restore my computer to different restore points, but all attempts were in vain, because no settings have been changed... And that's my story. Also, I would appreciate some answers detailed as soon as possible, because this computer is not me anyway... Thanks for reading guys!

I recently tried to install a Machine Microsoft VM on myWindows XPcomputer. By getting a message "Please reboot", I clicked on "restart now." .....

the small window that you mentioned is probably the virtual machine window.  and if you it configured during installation, as attributed too much ram memory and disk space, and then the windows in normal mode went out of these valuable resources.

In addition, if the system disks and files was not optimal performance via tune ups, then they could have been less than optimal before installing the vpc and the systems simply becoming worse by installing more data.

regarding the failed system restore points, we don't know why they did not work.  but the system restore function is stable, except somethings interferes with her bad anti anti-virus programs or system files have been corrupted with infections beyond you're a.v design..  the bottom line is that "who knows?"

You can probably try is to start in safe mode and try to uninstall virtual pc via Add/Remove programs in the control panel.

then see if the normal mode is normal once again.

Another method, you can try again in safe mode is the restoration of the system again.

then see if the normal mode is normal once again.

Another method, you can try in safe mode, you can try to perform a clean boot to normal mode.

  • Windows XP mode virtual machine does not start after the upgrade to Windows 10

    Hello

After the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for Windows 10 Pro, my virtual Windows XP machine (which was created from the "XP" mode in Windows 7) no longer starts.

    It shows:

This system is not allowed to run "Windows XP Mode". Now, the virtual machine will be turned off.

How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

    Hello

How can I activate the Windows XP Mode in Windows 10 Pro? I mean, I have not lost my right to run Windows XP Mode, just because I've upgraded to Windows 10, right?

I fear that the statement is pretty much on the mark.

Microsoft caught only supported XP Mode in Windows 7, it has been since Windows 8.

    See also:

    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/2724115

You might be able to extract the folder integer vhd it and import it in VMware Workstation as a separate virtual machine. In the end, 'XP Mode' just was running a virtual machine in your Windows 7 after all.
