Age of Empires 2 compatibility

What new laptops / processor can play the old AOE2 series?

Here are the specifications of material for AOE III. I imagine that if you have hardware that matches, then AOE II will work on this subject.

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/907884/en-us

Minimum hardware specs for the games are always printed on the retail box or on the Web site where you purchased the game.

    Hello LyndonLoader, welcome.

My recommendation would be to disable the startup items that may be preventing Setup from finishing. Try this.
    1. click on START
2 type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter
    3. go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all the entries displayed
    4. click on 'Apply' at the bottom right
    5 restart your computer

    Hello world

My daughter has a Sat A200 1.8 GHz 3052 available RAM, installed Direct X 10, more older version 9 to run older games. Under Vista Home Premium with an ATI Radeon Graphics Processor 0 chip x 9581 (Mobility Radeon HD) 2600.

I get an error at the launch of Age of Empires II and I have the chart cannot initialize and check the compatibility of card and the video driver with Direct Draw.

I did, Direct sampling is enabled, the ATI driver has been updated, windows also updates and the game still gives me the same message.

Do you have a registry clean after using the game of the demo, which also did not work.

I got this game on two other laptops, a new Compaq and a 12 months, as well as old Acer laptop on my fully equipped acer desktop computer to vista. The only problem I have is with the Compaq laptop screen resolution should be set back to normal after the games, but it works very well. I don't know why the Toshiba Satellite is to give so much trouble.

    Can someone enlighten me? Please...

    Hello

And what ATI drivers you have installed exactly? Since the site of Toshiba or other drivers?

AFAIK for Age of Empires II are some fixes available. Have you installed them? As far as I know you can download on the Microsoft Web site.

You can also try starting the game in compatibility mode. That's why I choose Windows XP.

  • Age of Empires II - "can't initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw.

    Hello

I have a problem of Age of Empires 2 running on my new computer. Keeps displaying the following error message: "cannot initialize the graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw. "Someone at - it solutions to this? I have already visited many forums and trying different solutions; None of them helped.

Tried solutions: change the compatibility and as an administrator, switching to 16-bit color, turn off my graphics card, execution of the extension "nostartup" of the game, looking for old patches from Microsoft (which most are now unavailable due to the game being so old). I KNOW that others have been able to get this game to work on the Windows 7 operating system, but with a few other quirks and I KNOW my video card and driver are more than capable of handling this game. Any suggestions?

I had the above problem with AOEII:Age of the Kings. My brief spec is Windows 7 Ultimate edition (SP1) and a card nVidia 8600 GT. I did the following (make sure you reboot after each installation):

Make sure that you are running the latest patch of AOEII:AOK (2. 0 a):

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=35

Download and install the latest version of DirectX:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=5264

Download and install the latest nVidia Driver suite. I left the autodetect my card software and reset all my default settings. I also installed the full software suite:

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Finally, right click on the shortcut of AOE and click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and select the following:

-Run this program in compatibility mode - choose Windows XP Service Pack 2 (!) NOT 3!)
    -Disable visual themes
-Disable the Composition of the Bureau
-Run this program as an administrator

One of the above options maybe work on its own, but that's what I had to do to make it work and I tested it after each step.

    Good luck!

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

    Step 2:

Access the .exe file for the game and make sure that it is running in Compatibility Mode (Windows XP)

    Step 3:

    Install the Patch 1.14 softwarehttp://www.agecommunity.com/gameUpdates.aspx

If it still does not work, I suggest you run the game in Windows XP mode:

You can install XP mode on your computer if you have professional, Ultimate or Enterprise Windows editions. Here is a link you can follow and which will give you information about this:

  • Graphics problems during the game Age of Empire II in mode full screen in Windows 7

Original title: screen resolution and/or graphics problem with Windows 7.

Hi, I had currently two computers in my house upgraded to windows 7, one a Vista XP.

I am trying to run Age Of Empires 2 on both computers, the game has installed and running with ease, however it won't let you play the game in full screen, and also the color of things like grass and trees appear in red and orange, water displays brilliant purple.

I tried to change the windows screen resolution and the resolution of the options in the game, but it only changes in the percentage of the screen resolution, that he chooses to play in.

I can solve this? All advice is appreciated and thanks in advance.

PS I tried to reinstall and update graphic drivers, both computers have the same problem of new clean installations of windows and Age of Empires 2.

    Thank you

It is a problem due to the fact that AOE 2 was built on the platform Windows 95/98 Win9x. It will expose a few graphical artifacts while playing. You can try setting compatibility Win98 or Win95 check. There is also a workaround that may work in my opinion. You will need to search for "how to run StarCraft (1) on Windows 7" in Bing (Alternatively, Google: P) and it would show a site with a .bat file that could solve the problem of graphics in fullscreen.

    I hope this helps.

What I did with StarCraft was this:

On the desktop, right-click and select new text Document. Inside the Document, type this

    Taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
    D:\"StarCraft"\"StarCraft.exe".
    Start explorer.exe

Just replace the location of StarCraft with the location of the AOE II.

Save the file as: 'AOEII.bat' and then set the file type to the text file to all files.

What happens is that if corrects the discoloration and restart the explorer again after the end of the game. Although there is no easy way to change the icon of the good bat file: P

  • Resolution problem with Age of Empires on Windows 7.

I can't get Age of Empires to work in a resolution of 1280 x 800; It plays only at 640 x 480. I tried all the different compatibility options, and none of them worked. This game worked on Windows Vista, but since I have upgraded to Windows 7. How to get the game to run at least in a higher resolution?

    MS Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Pentium Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.4 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
    Thank you

Well, I looked, and I have to do an update of the driver from the manufacturer's Web site. But HP has no updates for my type of computer running windows 7. Does this mean I'm stuck with the resolution 1024 x 768?

Lonnie7 you have... once more... for a game, you can choose only these resolution which are supported by a game. 1280 x 800 is NOT supported by AoE.

You remove the black bars, your image is adjusted to fill all the screen and that's all you can do.

If my graphic card support I say 1900 x 1200 can I run AoE with this resolution? NO! I can only choose these resolution which are supported by a game.

  • Can't mistake of playing Age Of Empires 3 on Windows 7 64-bit message - d3dx9_25.dll isn't is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error

Original title: can not play Age Of Empires 3 on Windows 7 64 bit

I recently downloaded aoe 3 games for windows program, see the list also useful with Windows 7.

Download fine, as does the installation but I have a very big problem all I get when I try and run all the extensions of aoe 3 is the following error

c:\windows\system32\d3dx9_25.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. try to install the program by using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the provider of software for support.

The file in question is there I tried to delete it using the program dxwebsetup or one that comes with the download aoe3 however both reinstall the same file accurate return.

I have try the .exe running in all sorts of compatibility mode as well as manually from the install in compatibility mode. all I get is the same error each time. I ran the esfile auditor and lists some invalid files, I guess it's because they are cracked to work without the cd files. I downloaded the game 3 times now.

My drivers are all upward to date, research on the internet I can't find a lot of information, a lot of links goto the forums on agecommunity.com but they are no longer works.

I am really stuck and would appreciate any help thanks

    Hi Mitsouki,

This problem may occur if the Microsoft DirectX file that is mentioned in the error message is damaged or is not copied correctly.

Step 1: You can follow the steps mentioned in the article below, which deals with a similar question

Game error: "the file d3dx9_xx. DLL is not found.

  • Age of Empires 2 cannot host the game with Windows 7, Server networking DirectPlay

I recently installed Age of Empires II: The Conquerors Expansion on Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 at home.

This game does not work on Windows 7 with some work. First color is screwed up because it runs using 256 colors. Killing the task of 'explorer' in the Task Manager, while the game is running fixed that.

My new problem is that I can't host a game in network on Windows 7. I've done some packet sniffing and I think it has to do with Directplay Server does not properly.

    According to Wikipedia

    • In Windows Vista , DirectPlay has been deprecated and DirectPlay Voice and NAT Helper of DirectPlay have been removed.

I can join Games hosted on a Windows XP with Windows 7 machine, but I'm not able to host my own games.

At work, we all use Windows 7 to play after hours is not possible because we do not have an XP machine to host the game.

How can I me Directplay specifically Directplay Server run on Windows 7?

I tried AOE2 running in Compatibility Mode for XP SP2 as it as an administrator.

    Kind regards

    Joey

If, after upgrading two machines Windows 7 Beta to Windows 7 Professional Retail, I managed to get the machines to see after turning off UPnP on the router. I guess AOE2 is the ad itself and the router it's treat as UPnP.

  • Cannot install Age of Empires Trial Version

Original title: downloaded game will not install on Vista

I downloaded Age of Empires Trial Version Microsoft Games, but when I try to install nothing happens.  I got the .exe file on my desktop and can only run as administrator.  The next screen gives me the possibility to install or exit.  I select install and then get a license agreement.  I select I accept and then the computer thinks for a minute and then nothing else happens.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

Hello! I had this problem too, and I hope that you are always looking for an answer. It's the first time posted on forums ive.

Ok! What you need to do, it's MSAoE.exe right click and select Properties. Then, go to compatibility and then run the program with windows 95. Go down to settings and run in 256 colors. Then select run as an adiministrator. Click on apply, and then run the trial version download. Please note: this can temporarily ruin the color scheme on your PC. Thank you very much hope this helps as it worked for me. :)

  • How can I install Age of Empires 3 (for XP) on my laptop using Windows 7?

I was SO excited to finally get a laptop (Asus K series) game with a quality graphics card, a serious upgrade from my old Dell Inspiron. I was disappointed, however, after discovering the lack of compatibility and therefore the obstacle to play, with Age of Empires 3 fantastic games.  I would really like to play the game as it was meant to be played, but I have no idea how to install it.

Is there a compatibility program I can run, or a shortcut through it all?

    Thank you!

I found this on the forums of AoE, it seems reasonable:

When you install the game on Windows 7 won't allow the CD autoplay but rather explore and click on setup.exe, and select 'run as administrator '. After that the game installs explore the directory of Age of Empires and find the application, create a shortcut for it and in the properties of the shortcut, check both boxes "Run as Administrator" and set the compatibility "Windows XP, Service Pack 3.
