  Until someone (I hope that Microsoft) comes up with a patch, you will need to run the game with a batch file.  Open Notepad and paste the following text:

  EE2.exe
  Start explorer.exe

  Now save it as EE2.bat [all files]
  in your EE2 directory that contains EE2.exe.  Right and drag this batch of files on your desktop and create a shortcut.  You can do a right click on the shortcut and choose Properties to change the icon that EE2 directory (EE2.ico).  You can do the same for expansion (EE2x.exe) If you have one.
  You may still need to run the program as administrator and in compatibility mode and may need to take ownership of the folder EE2.
