AIP - SSM traction events for what?

I like to shoot events from IPS, but what program should I I need? Besides I don't have cisco works...

THX

Take a look at the Event Viewer (VEI) ID if you run 5.x. For 6.x, take a look at Cisco IPS Manager Express (IME).

  • transparent mode with AIP-SSM-20

I currently have an ASA5510 routed with AIP-SSM-20 mode.

It is necessary to use a connection in optical fiber between the ASA and ASA on the campus, so the AIP - SSM will need to be removed and replaced by the SSM - 4GE.  This section should present no problems.

However, this will remove the IPS device, and I always want to use IPS.

So what I think is to get another ASA5510, install the AIP - SSM, configure ASA for transparent and put it between the inside of the ASA routed and my local network.  The ASA transparent would be strictly works in the form of an IPS appliance.

The installation program should look like this:

Internal LAN <> ASA transparent with IPS <> routed ASA <> WAN

The AIP - SSM can always perform with the ASA in transparent mode IPS?

Is it possible to configure the ASA and AIP - SSM such as traffic to and from a particular server completely ignores the AIP - SSM?

I have a couple of file servers which generate heavy traffic and can overload the AIP - SSM.

    Kind regards.

AFAIR, it is no installation AIP in a transparent firewall problem.

"The SAA in transparent mode can execute an agreement in principle.  In the event that the AIP fails,

the IPS will fail-open and the ASA will continue to pass traffic.
However, if an interface or cable fails, then traffic will stop.  You
would need a failover pair to account for this failure event, which
means another ASA and matching AIP."

And no there is no problem to exclude certain hosts/ports/subnets inspection by IPS via MPF.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/security/ASA/asa82/configuration/guide/IPS.html#wp1050744

What I consider however is however if the ASA 5510 as second level firewall for 5520 s will be enough.

  • AIP - SSM maintenance of Configuration in Active mode Stdby

So, I'm pretty new to the AIP - SSM but not for the ASA. It seems that very few of the AIP module configuration gets copied to the AIP Stdby, nothing else that what appears in the config of the ASA (ACL, etc.). Thus, all elements of specific configuration for the module itself must be manually reproduced on Stdby module, either entered hand or config copies moved between the two?

    Planned in the future.

  • Downgrade IPS on AIP - SSM to 6.1.1 6.0.2

Need to know how to return to v602 once a v611 upgrade was carried out.

The recovery partition is also v611.

Two methods as well as a comment. The comment is that you will want to come back to 6.0 (4), not 6.0 (2) for operational use.

[edit] The following works of generically on autonomous sensors... I missed that this is a question for the AIP - SSM. It should still work on the AIP - SSM with adjustments for the input/output "foreigner in the area.

To recover, a reimage using one of the tftp-able images (or a CD boot if you have a sensor 4235/4250) is the gold standard to go backward. You will lose your configuration when do you and you need to re-run the installation program.

The other way and officially it is not supported for "damages", but it works 98% of the time, is to load the recovery image - r (IPS-K9-r-1.1-a-6.0-4-E1.pkg) and then make an application partition 'recover' the level of the "conf t". This reimage your sensor and preserve the installation of the base system. You will still lose the customizations of signature and passwords will be reset to factory default, but the network configuration is preserved, so you can do it remotely.

The left State events and entered promiscuous mode are usually generated when you do a 'package of display' or 'the capture of packets' command on the CLI of the sensor.

Track order of the package is promiscuity but is independent of promiscuity or inline followed by analysis of the probe engine.

If you have inline monitoring using the probe analysis engine.

And still make command package to the cli for your own monitoring promiscuity of those same packets. Here are 2 independent monitors of the same packages.

If I remember right inline monitored packets always get returned to the ASA (unless expressly denied), which is not promiscuous packets. So check sensors gig0/1 interface statistics and the number of packets for transmission. If receive and transmit accounts are quite close, then packets are monitored by the analytical engine InLine. If the number of transmission is nil or very low then the packets are likely promiscuous monitored.

With the configuration of your ASA you are correctly configured for online tracking.

So I don't think that you are investigating inline, and status messages are specific to your start and stop of the command 'package' on the CLI for your own independent viewing packages promiscuity.

  • AIP SSM-10 - how to check traffic being passed for inspection?

    Hello

I've implemented an AIP - SSM on our ASA5510 for the first time, as a result of this excellent guide, http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a00807335ca.shtml.

The difference between the environment used in the doco and ours are the specifications of our ASA and module, the following IOS version 8.0 (4), version ASDM is 6.1 (3), the version of the application of SSM is 5,0000 E2.

I have followed all the steps to enable connectivity to the module of the ASDM, created the access list to allow all ip traffic to be transmitted to the inspection module, map of the class and the political map indicating promiscous mode, relief. The service policy is applied throughout the world.

The problem I'm having is that when I try to check as indicated on the guide to the alert of events see the command on the CLI module I don't get any output, so I don't know if the traffic is passed to the module. Can someone plese help me clarify this?

    Kind regards

    Esteban

Run 'show conf' on your AIP SSM CLI. Check interface GigabitEthernet0/1 basket of the MSS background assigned to sensor virtual vs0.

If it does not, then run "setup" and towards the end of the installation wizard, there will be an option to change the interface and the virtual sensor configuration. Use this option to change the configuration for sensor virtual vs0 and in the interface.

You can also run "show stat vs0 virtual sensor" to see the number of packets being crawled by vs0.

  • installation of update of signature for JOINT-2 AIP - SSM

Hi every one, im not sure about this issue but I think its beter ask you experts.i want to know that if I update the signature for example for my JOINT-2 can I install this update of GIS on my AIP - SSM--> assume that software IPS on both devices are same and I also installed the license key valid on AIP - SSM.now can I do this or not? and I know that if you do not license installed on JOINT-2 you cannot install any point of GIS on JOINT-2 but this topic AIP - SSM? I want to say I can install updated GIS on AIP - SSM without installed the license key valid on AIP - SSM? Thank you

There are 3 main types of Signature updates.

    (1) IPS sensor Signature Update

    (2) updates of Signature CSM for IPS sensors

    (3) signing IOS IPS updates

The IPS Signature Update file name is in the form: IPS-GIS-Sxxx-req - Ey.pkg

That's probably what you are referrnig to in your message. This file can be installed on ANY device IDS/IPS or Module.

Here, the requirement is not the platform but rather the level of the engine. The part "req - Ey" in the file name indicates that the sensor has already run the 'y' the software engine level.

If a file IPS-GIS-S436-req - E3.pkg can be installed on any IDS/IPS device or Module as long as the software on this sensor is a version of the 'E3 '.

The CSM updates are updates of signature for the Cisco Security Manager. They contain special files that SCM uses to update, and then also included in the JLC update is the update of real sensor described above. CSM unpackages the CSM update, updates and then uses this file embedded to upgrade the actual sensor.

The third type of file is for routers IOS loaded with the special IOS software that has the distinction of IOS IPS where the router itself (instead of a separate module of the IDS/IPS) keeps track of the signature.

These updates to the signing IOS IPS settle on the real router and are not installed on the Modules or the sensor IDS/IPS devices.

So to answer your question, yes the same Signature Update for your JOINT-2 is the exact same Signature Update for your SSM modules.

The same exact file is available through several different paths on cisco.com. But no matter which way cisco.com you have downloaded the file, you can always install it on all the Modules and the IDS/IPS Appliances.

With respect to licensing, the license works the same on all Modules and the IDS/IPS Appliances. A license must be on the sensor for the Signature Update to apply.

NOTE: A trial license is available at cisco.com for new sensors to allow you to get everything set up properly for your sensor to be covered by a service contract and get the standard license for the service contract.

  • What can I downgrade AIP-SSM-10 of 2.0000 E4 to 2.0000 E3?

    Hello

    I have an AIP-SSM-10 (IPS - K9 - 6.1 - 2 - E3) running inside an ASA (active failover mode / standby).

My license status is 'not expired until 12,2010."

When I switch to 2.0000 E4 (because he said I needed engine E4 to the signature update) my license changed to expired.

Here's my question, what are the versions can I go to?

I made a mistake? Can I go down to 2.0000 E3 and how?

    Thank you

Try to remove the license from first service account, and then update the license via cisco.com:

    (1) create a user with the service account name: service of privilege for the user name password

    (2) then SSH to the IP addresses with the service account user name and password created earlier.

Then by following the steps below:

'su' to root (same as svc acct PW PW)
-Remove all the files in the/usr/cids/idsRoot/shared/directory, * EXCEPT host.conf file *.
-run "/etc/init.d/cids restart" to restart the IPS apps (or reset the sensor)

    (3) from IDM - apply the real license by choosing to update the license via cisco.com.

    Hope that solves this problem.

  • AIP - SSM upgrade for ASA active / active

    Hello world!

I need help on improving the aip - ssm modules to E4 on two s asa who are active/active state. I'll be able to do this without downtime? What are the considerations?

AIPs are independent of the resumption of the SAA, however, the SAA can consider the status of the AIP in passage of failover, which means it can failover

If it detects a module AIP descending on the active device.

The best method for upgrading in this situation will be the status of active failover Setup for all groups on the SAA primary, then upgrade the AIP of the ASA high school.

Once the agreement in principle of the school is completely updated and functional, then set all groups to be active with the ASA failover secondary.

    Then the primary AIP.

Once the primary AIP is completely level and working, you can then restore the status of the ASAs failover, by setting the active failover for the Group on the ASAs specific you want them to be active on...

    Kind regards

  • What are different between the IPS and AIP - SSC and AIP - SSM?

    Dear all,

I'm not clear about the IPS, AIP - SSC and AIP - SSM module which are different?

Then, when we can use IP addresses?

When we use the AIP - SSC?

When we can use AIP - SSM?

Thus, a different IPS and AIP - SSC and AIP - SSM material or the same material?

AIP - SSM is an IPS Firewall ASA module.

IPS is available in different flavors:

-Device of the IPS 4200 series

AIP - SSM - module IPS Firewall ASA

-IDSM2 - IPS module on 6500 series switch

AIM - IPS - map IPS on router IOS

  • What is the event for a region/jsff loading?

I need to do something after a Jsff or region has been charged, which is the event for her?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Easier is to use a hidden on the first page JSFF user interface component and bind its value property to a managed bean. When this value is requested, you know that the region is charged. To make sure that it fires only once, set a flag in the pageFlowScope. Altrenatively, you can use a dynamic region and add your custom code to the Get accessor method in the managed bean that is called to provide the benchmark for the region.

  • Getting started: ASA5520 w / AIP - SSM

I'm trying to deploy an ASA5520 to a customer. I have no problem with the piece of implementing firewall, but I don't know where to start with the piece of IPS.

I searched a bit on the ASA55XX & AIP - SSM, but can't seem to find much on what to do with the AIP - SSM beyond the initial Setup.

Can someone point me to some beginners IPS documentation that focuses on the AIP - SSM?

    Thank you

    Jeff

In my view, there is a lack of documentation on how to get the IPS module to work with the ASA. It would be nice if there was a single document on how to get IPS working module with the ASA.

Start with the documentation of the IPS. It's just on how to configure the IPS himself module. Assign an IP address for management, set the admin password, etc..

    http://www.Cisco.com/univercd/CC/TD/doc/product/iaabu/csids/csids12/index.htm

Then go to the documentation of the SAA on how to configure ASA to send traffic to IP addresses (via a service-policy):

    http://www.Cisco.com/univercd/CC/TD/doc/product/iaabu/csids/csids11/cliguide/clissm.htm#wp1033926

There is a free viewer of IPS Cisco event offering to monitor events on the IPS. It can be downloaded from the download page of the Cisco IPS software.

Finally, read the whitepaper SAFE on the deployment of the IPS and the setting.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/NetSol/ns340/ns394/ns171/ns128/networking_solutions_white_paper09186a00801bc111.shtml

I hope this helps. Remember messages useful rate. Thank you!

  • AIP SSM and virtual devices

I just put in place a module AIP SSM in an ASA 5520 with a unique security context.

Do I need to configure virtual devices in this case? or I can use the VS0 default? In the documentation of the IPS, he says "You can't change the definition of signature, rules of action event or anomaly detection policies." for the default virtual sensor (VS0), which is the only virtual sensore I.

Can someone clarify what this means? It somehow restrict the usefulness of the IPS if I do not set up a separate VS?

    Thank you very much.

A single sensor vs0 virual is very good, especially when only a single surveillance security context.

The statement do not change the definition of signature, event actions or policies of anomaly detection rules can be a little misleading.

What he's trying to say, is that you cannot create ad1, regles1, and any new polcies sig1 and try to apply them to vs0. The vs0 default must use sig0, rules0 and ad0.

If you have created a new vs1, then you can apply the new policies like sig1 and regles1 ad1 to this new vs1.

This does NOT mean that you cannot make changes to config in sig0, rules0 and ad0.

So feel free to make configuration changes to sig0, rules0 and ad0 to fine-tune how your vs0 should handle the traffic.

It's just the names of politicians who cannot be changed when you use vs0.

I have no plans on deploying a device IDS.

Question: The IME is designed to send notices to the subject of threats? What are some of the configurations in your network? (Just prick with the last question.)

    THX...

IME is designed only for IPS monitor (whether it be IPS appliance, module AIP - SSM on ASA or other module IPS). IME is not able on the control of ASA.

EMI can provide advice by email about events which are fires on the IPS, while the IPS itself cannot. EMI may also keep all the events triggered by the IPS, while SPI buffer is small enough, that so if you have huge demonstrations, the buffer gets replaced pretty quickly.

Here is more information about IME, if you are interested:
