Airport extreme continues to lose a WiFi for devices

I have an Airport Extreme router and since last week, I have had problems where the devices throughout the House will lose internet connectivity. It's very random when it initially started to happen.  Now, I find myself restarting the router every time to solve almost every day.

My configuration:

Carrier Internet (wifi off)-> Apple Extreme router connected directly to the Internet (wifi active) carrier router

At first, I thought it was my internet service provider. After problems with them, everything seems to work fine on their end. I have a travel line that directly connects the router to the internet company (I have 4 dedicated IPs available) and it works very well when my devices stop working.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? I spent a lot of money on this router in the hope of having a better experience of wi fi for all my devices apple, 4 iPads, 2 iPhones, 3 Apple TV and 2 Macbook cradle unfortunately, I'm out of warranty for support. Hopefull

Hello themaclife,

I understand that you are having problems with the internet using your airport Exterme. Let's see if we can get this sorted out.

Generally, most of the problems can be solved by restarting simply your Airport Extreme. If this is something that is becoming more and more frequent, you may need to configure back again once. Take a look at the article below to guide you in how to restart and reconfigure your Airport Extreme. Don't forget to use the recommended settings and look out for any who might cause problems similar to what you feel.

Now you mentioned that the warranty has expired on your Airport Extreme as well as having 2 Mac and Apple TV 3. If none of these devices have AppleCare and was purchased within 2 years of each other, then one of these devices can extend the warranty to your Airport Extreme.

  • Can the Airport Extreme connect wireless to my wifi network?

    Hi all

I have an Airport Extreme, which I use only for his Time Machine feature.  Best I can tell the only way he can connect to my wireless network is extending.  Is this correct?

If I use it to extend my wireless network was is the negative impact (if any)?

    Thanks in advance.

You can extend wireless or even join wireless to less the router that you connect to another router from Apple.

If this is the case then it can work well if it is in the range... otherwise, you must plug the AE into the router principal by ethernet and put in place as a separate network wireless access point.

Extend wireless is bad if you are linked to the main router wireless... which will cause huge slow down even if you are in a situation of apple router all.

  • AirPort Extreme will not do handshake to connect devices.

I don't know if my question is related to the Cox IPv6 problem, but here goes...

I have a signal of quality, checked cable modem and my extreme is the latest generation with the latest version of the installed software package green watch on Internet and the Base Station Airport utility.

My Network recognize my password, but it does not connect... The box will not be displayed, just the circle of rotation for ever.

I have hard to restate the modem, I completely rebooted from the base station and deleted and restarted my home network. Everything seems to work!

    Any ideas?

    This modem do you have?

    There are two main issues...

On Cox IPv6 is a problem... so put IPv6 to post a link-local only in the router and the computer.

Then the problem is more fundamental... Some modems do not work with the airports of HQ... a single serial port modems SB are the worst offenders, but many others have problems... nothing is apparently not with one of them... but the combo does not work.

Sometimes it's just easier to buy another router of brand... and connect at the airport bridge purely as WAP... so it has no routing and so very little to go wrong.

  • Network configuration of Roaming Wifi problem I just bought an Airport Extreme and I intend to use it as my router

I just bought a refurbished Airport Extreme and I intend to use it as my router & combine with our old time Capsule of existing one to create a roaming Wifi network.

The new Airport Extreme (renovated) is in my studio/Office - directly connected to our internet broadband wireless (WAN port)

Our small ethernet is connected to my iMac [mid 2010 running OSX 10.11.5] & a PC and extends up to 2 other domains through an ethernet switch.

This configuration works very well, our internet speed has improved slightly - better than our old T-Link router bit.  WiFi available throughout the House - better on one side.

Time Capsule (2 TB) is connected by ethernet on the far side of the House, offer backup Time Machine and strong Wifi to this area.

This time Capsule was an existing installation that went perfectly with the T-Link before I bought the Airport Extreme.

I used the Airport utility to set everything up and it seems to work.

    The problem is:

Combines the Capsule and extreme connected & active, the Internet gradually slows down and grinds to stop. -Wifi seems to follow suit, but is much more gradual.

If I disable the Time Capsule, the internet connection is back to normal, Airport Extreme Wifi signal is strong and extends to almost all areas.

I got to the departure of the two units configuration problems, so I reset both factory default and from that moment managed to do all this work - with the exception that the internet connection slows down.  Whenever I visit a different web site, it takes more time to load/link upward.

I spoke with our ISP, the link to our tower is solid. The technology suggested that I put Wifi on each unit to use a different channel (2 frequencies & several channels each available).

So far, this has not resolved the problem, I will continue to make adjustments.

I googled this - most of the answers are not to date - usually 2012, 13, 14. and not directly related to my situation.  But I will continue my search.

I'd appreciate if anyone here has any suggestions

The new Airport Extreme (renovated) is in my studio/Office - directly connected to our internet broadband wireless (WAN port)

What is the number and the model of the modem or modem/router that your ISP has provided you?

Should we assume that you use a Mac with the help of a current or recent operating system?

If you get out of the Capsule of time and leaves disabled for now, the network AirPort Extreme continue to run at full speed for a few hours and not slow down?

We ask these questions because we must first confirm that the AirPort Extreme works properly until we can begin to troubleshoot the connection to Time Capsule.

Although I think that the question is really the Airport Extreme also updates Windows 7 WiFi.
Check with the system manufacturer and the real device manufacturer updates the driver.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • I could use an airport extreme to extend my wifi network

I was able to connect the extreme of the Airport via an ethernet cable to my sky router and use it to improve the signal? If yes how I would go about setting up

I was able to connect the extreme of the Airport via an ethernet cable to my sky router and use it to improve the signal?

Yes, if you understand that the Ethernet cable must remain permanently connected at all times.

If yes how I would go about setting up

Locate the AirPort Extreme right in the middle of the remote Valley where you need more coverage of wireless signal

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the router from sky on 'o' WAN port on the AirPort Extreme <-->

    Run the Apple installation "Wizard".

Assign the same exact wireless network name that uses the heaven to the AirPort Extreme router

Assign a name of device for AirPort Extreme

Enter the exact same word of wireless that uses the sky router

    Enter the password to confirm

Click next and wait a minute, while the installation wizard does it all for you

Click done when you see the installation complete message

  • The most convenient airport in Bridge mode lose packets

    Hi all.

I have an airport extreme with the version of firmware 7.7.7 (later at the time of this announcement). My modem ISP settings are blocked and it is already fixed to make routing/DHCP/Nat, so I use my airport extreme in Bridge mode to avoid the double NAT (it connects connects to the ISP with DHCP router).

Both the ISP modem/router and Airport extreme are creating two different 'wifi networks", which belong to the same network (192.168.0.0).

I can enter each of this Wifi network, obtain an IP address in both cases and start using the internet.

However, when I use it on my ISP router, everything works perfectly, however, when I use it on the airport network, it fails from time to time.

If I start ping an external IP address (e.g.: 8.8.8.8), I've never lost a packet on the network of the ISP router, but I lose packets often on the airport extreme network.

Also, if I ping the ISP of the airport extreme network router I lose packets from time to time. Sometimes also vice versa. I never lose packets when ping the router whose network providing I'm connected to.

All the settings on the airport extreme values by default (except that I created an additional network of 5 GHz).

Can you give us some advice as how to solve the problem? I read somewhere that disable ipv6 connection sharing could solve the problem, but it didn't. Thanks in advance

If you have the Ethernet cable from your ISP router that is connected to the "O" on the AirPort Extreme WAN port, unplug the cable and plug it into one of the three ports LAN <>- on the airport to see if this will help with the issue.

However, if you have the Ethernet cable from the ISP router already connected to one of the LAN <>- port on the AirPort Extreme, then you'll need to reset the AirPort Extreme back to default settings and then set up again.

If you have any further questions, the Airport extreme is defective and must be replaced.

  • How to fill Airport extreme wth my DSL router

I am interested to buy an airport extreme and I currently have a DSL WiFi router. can I fill my current setup and then copy it into the new airport extreme, and then turn off my WiFi in my DSL router? in other words, I wish the Airport extreme to be the main WiFi, I hope I'm supposed?

You cannot copy between dissimilar model routers.

And there is absolutely no reason and without having to turn off the current router wifi and every reason to leave it on.

The extreme must be in bridge including the Apple Installer mode to remove the wireless of comments. So I encourage you to just run two wireless networks... (there bandwidth to run 3 without causing problems).

Create the wireless on the extreme with your own new values wireless... and you connect some Apple devices you want.

But you can do what you want... just use the existing router SSID in the airport and use his password... However, this can cause problems for clients who expect a single Assembly and find that they are connected to something unknown.

  • Unable to connect to Airport Extreme after updating iOS 10

    Hey guys.

OK not sure if anyone else has this problem, but I can't connect to my Airport Extreme update IOS 10 my wife is.

We all have two iPhone 6 and 64 gb & update at the same time.

We have an ac 802.11 Airport extreme also an extreme dual band of airport & an express airport which none of us can connect to.

We can connect to the Home Hub 6 provided by our service provider broadband with no problems but it is only in a part of the House that we are unable to connect to my office or at the back of the House.

Tried resetting the network settings on the phone thought I might ask before having to try to reset back to factory settings base stations.

    Thank you

FWIW, I upgraded my iPhone SE 5 and Pro iPad to iOS 10 as well, but knows me not any problems connecting to one of my base station AirPort to Wi - Fi.

Or the other of your iPhones must all problems connecting to other networks in addition to the Home Hub Wi - Fi? In other words, are they only having problems connecting to your AirPort base station? If Yes, do you have someone nearby who also has an AirPort wireless network that you should check your iPhones with?

In the meantime, let's take a look at the current configuration of your network. We know that you, at least, three airport base stations. What is the exact models of non - 802.11ac extreme and Express?

These base stations are all linked back to the Home Hub with Ethernet they are all configured for a mobile network?

  • I use a VPN in AirPort Express. I've updated firmware for 7.7.7 and DNS assigned by my VPN does not work anymore. Upon entry, the icon 'internet' in utility Airpot turns brown, and the internet stops completely. Anyone have any idea?

Why my internet connection dies? I use a VPN to my internet at home. I put the DNS numbers supplied by the company VPN in my airPort extreme, which, in turn, provides wireless for home. It worked perfectly until I updated to firmware 7.7.7. Suddenly the green light next to the 'internet' in airport Utility icon went Brown, and it is therefore most all internet. I put numbers in DNS to my ISP, and internet provider is displayed again. All the other numbers in DNS, whether it's Google, OpenDNS or VPN to stop the dead from the internet. Anyone has an idea about this?

Airport base stations, are at best, a VPN-well past that device. It is a server or a VPN client. Upgrade to the latest firmware does not change this fact.

To create a VPN tunnel using the AirPort Express Terminal, your computer must be running a VPN client that connects to a VPN server somewhere on the Internet. What DNS servers you use should make no difference with VPN.

If the ISP-supplied DNS servers do not work, I would say that you contact your ISP to find out why they don't allow you to use them.

What we need to study is more why you lose Internet connectivity when changing the DNS servers of your ISP. Please check with them and to report back, then we can try to help.

  • Airport Extreme and Time Capsule of airport work together?

I have time capsule and airport extreme. I need to decide if I should sell Airport extreme or is there a way for the two to work together to expand the wifi. Airport extreme can be connected to time capsule and extend the range?

AirPort Extreme can extend the time Capsule network in one of two ways:

    (1) for the best performance, the AirPort Extreme is located in the heart of the area where most of the wireless coverage is needed, and it would connect to the time Capsule using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

    (2) AirPort Extreme can connect to the Time Capsule wireless network and to extend the network in this way, if you're ready locate AirPort Extreme to halfway between the Capsule and the area that needs more coverage wireless... And... accept a drop in performance of half of the potential maximum speed on the network.

  • Airport Extreme network orientation parameters

Here is our network (diagram below) configuration:

Internet is available through a pass by modem cable to the Sonic Wall set with a static IP address. The wall of sound, we have a port to a point of cradle that is not with a static IP and gives on a totally different range of the IPS via DHCP to our POS. Another port of the Sonic Wall, I had going to the WAN port on our new airport extreme. I have a switch with some control machines connected to the Airport extreme via an ethernet cable. All devices connected via wifi or hard cable with Airport extreme are placed for IPS via DHCP.

I am trying to configure parameters on a new device extreme airport our Wi - Fi to my company. We recently had some problems of internet connectivity for a minute or two at a time and I wonder if it could be some sort of conflict of IP address or if it was just a failure of the internet that did not affect the status of the modem lights cable (all were green = connected). Brief history: the most extreme airport on a port of our Sonic wall with the airport extreme is default DHCP and NAT (he gave me the orange light, and he suggested that I put it in Bridge mode). Internet in all of our network seemed to work very well, so I just left it alone.

30 days later we have a brief interruption in internet connectivity with our credit card processing POS two days in a row for a minute or two of. After the second case, we shut down the extreme airport just in case that was causing our problem. I had a technician COMPUTER down and he suggested I put the airport with a static IP (x.x.7.80) outside the range of IP addresses of our wall router Sonic DHCP-range (let's say it was x.x.7.100 - x.x.7.252) he has been giving and then configured the network settings for DHCP LAN only Airport (I used x.x.7.10 - x.x.7.70) with a range that doesn't overlap the IP of the Sonic Wall range. Part of the confusion, I had during the configuration of the airport was if I needed to plug in our Sonic Wall static IP address in the 'router' address and if I needed to use the DNS servers that appeared in the Sonic Wall settings (I thought he was shooting at those of the cable company). After you make these changes, I got a green light on the airport and the connection was working fine when tested. The next day, we had another interruption of connectivity where our treatment card and internet from WIFI got interrupted. I unplugged the power of WIFI and it seemed that our POS network has begun to process cards normally again.

The point side cradle of the network is to grasp what IP the sonic wall gives him and give the address on a completely different system that is used in the other part of the network. Another question would be if I can just put the Airport extreme to DHCP mode under the 'Internet' parameter and go to the bridge on "Network" setting Mode I don't know how the bridge Mode would affect our network. I'm not wanting to do anything on the side POS (point of cradle) which is rather difficult with someone like me who is not an expert. Any thoughts are appreciated to help me resolve this issue.

Brief history: the most extreme airport on a port of our Sonic wall with the airport extreme is default DHCP and NAT (he gave me the orange light, and he suggested that I put it in Bridge mode). Internet in all of our network seemed to work very well, so I just left it alone.

There are two schools of thought on this.  The traditional method (better, in my opinion) would have the AirPort Extreme, put in place in Bridge Mode... Since you already have another router... (the Sonic Wall device which is upstream of your network)... providing routing services.

Although you might be able to make a network work well with two different devices acting both as of the routers on the network, it complicates things, adds another firewall to the network, and also produces a base called Double NAT network error.

Sometimes you can get away with a Double NAT error on a simple network, but the double layers of NAT may cause some unpredictable problems. The usual problem is slower navigation, or you will not be able to access some Web sites.  Network devices may not communicate reliably, or communicate at all in some cases.

This is why Apple software configuration you advise to set up AirPort Extreme in bridge... Mode to fix the Double NAT error. This type of configuration simplifies your network... Since one device will put a router... not two.

In recent years in particular, we have seen some tips on forums that goes against the rules of traditional networking.  These people that it is OK to have two devices both try to act as routers to the same network... and to 'ignore' the Double NAT error on the network.

It's interesting tips, since the Apple software advises you avoid having a Double NAT on the network... and some advanced features like Back to My Mac specifically Apple advise to avoid a Double NAT error on the network.  If you have a console online game and you want to play interactively on Internet, you already know that a Double NAT error will not allow this.

My suggestion would be so... If you have not already tried it... to set up the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode.  Apple calls this setting off (Bridge Mode)... which simply means that routing services are turned 'Off' Mode bridge.

You can still assign a static to AirPort Extreme IP address, if you want, but the devices that are connected to the AirPort Extreme will receive the Sonic Wall router network IP addresses... Since the airport acts as a simple device to "go" when he returns and in Bridge Mode.

  • Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

I got a modem Comcast/Xfinity upgrade. Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router on a network, AirPort Extreme will be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work properly with the new modem. For this he would be...

Turn on AirPort Extreme for a few minutes... If it is not already turned on

Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 7-8 seconds, then release it.

Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart to a slow, flashing amber light status

Make sure that an Ethernet cable connects to one of the four LAN <-->Ethernet ports on the modem/router on port WAN "O" on AirPort Extreme

To start the Setup program, click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and are looking for a list of the new AirPort base station

Just below that, click directly on the AirPort Extreme and then follow the prompts for configuration "Wizard".

When you configure AirPort Extreme once again, you can use the same wireless network name and the same password that you used with AirPort Extreme with the 'old' modem, if you wish, or use a new wireless network name and password

  • How to use Airport Extreme with ethernet leased line

    Hello friends,

I was wondering if Airport Extreme is a true router, can I connect gout ethernet of my leased line directly in its WAN port, rather than put the provided ISP router between the two? I have lived many positions and all seem to suggest the connection of a cable/dsl modem to the WAN port on the extreme. Not found any information where it shows the ethernet line rented directly linking in the Giga WAN port, without any 2nd device in the meantime.

If it's possible, then I guess also what public IP provided PSI can be put into the WAN of AE interface. Can someone develop more on it and detail the steps of configuration? Given that EI has basic firewall NAT, I think it's doable, but can someone confirm please.

    Thank you very much.

Temporarily, if you connect your computer directly to the Ethernet line, can you get a good connection Internet in this way?

If so, then AIrPort Extreme could function as a router for you, but you are also likely to face a Double NAT error on the network. How well... or, even if... This might work cannot be known until try you it.

If the computer cannot connect, then what is required of your supplier for the computer to connect and get Internet access?

    Hello

I'm trying to configure Airport extreme, the most convenient to use for our office.

When I'm trying to Setup DHCP and NAT, in NAT options, there is only 10.0.x.x, 172.16.x.x and 192.168.x.x

How can I get NAT to have 10.255.x.x?

Without the NAT settings, I can not get this Airport Extreme to assign valid IP addresses and so unnecessary

Sorry, but Apple will only accept the 10.0.x.x addresses to be assigned by the AirPort Extreme.
