Airport of broadcast cross?

I have an Apple Airport Extreme current network interview the two CAT6 wired and wireless devices configured in DHCP/NAT. I have a DLink 24 - port external switch connected to the Airport Extreme. A new device that is wired to the switch, connects a - OK for the wired Mac Mini, running a program of the new device management. The new device also has a program of control of iOS for my iPad, but the iPad can not communicate with the new cable system. Any suggestions?

Is your AirPort Extreme Base Station a 802.11ac model? It is currently configured with IGMP Snooping enabled?

  • AirPort utility > select the extreme > change > Network tab > Network Options... > enable IGMP Snooping

What version of iOS of the iPad is running? A is the control of the iOS program? He was able to work before or never worked?

  • Airport Ext Radio stop broadcasting

This 3rd Gen airport Ext is in mode bridge as part of a network of Airport Time Capsule. The Extreme broadcasting this wireless diagnosis when the radio is off (Bridge Mode). When the extreme is physically disconnected from the supply, then Wireless Diagnostics tables correctly this radio report.

The only clue I have is that it is wireless the network. I know it's different from the radio... I don't know, this means that it is a signal to get out (or is it a received signal)?

    Any thoughts appreciated

The Extreme broadcasting this wireless diagnosis when the radio is off (Bridge Mode).

    Hi buz.

'Off (bridgé Mode)' would have nothing to do with the question of whether or not the wireless radio broadcast. This function determines if the airport acts as the "primary" router that distributes the IP addresses to network devices, or if another router is in control of the management of this network.

If you don't want the AirPort Extreme to broadcast a wireless signal at all, then you will have to turn to "Off" the function Wireless to the router from the airport.

This is easy to do using AirPort Utility on your Mac.  (Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility)

Click on the image of the aircraft from the airport

Click Edit in the window that appears

Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the next window

Change the settings of the Network Mode to "Create a wireless network" (emits a wireless signal) to 'Off' (no not a broadcast signal)

Click Update at the bottom right of the window to save the changes you made, and reboot the device from the airport.

  • iOS 10: no airtime over to Airport express?

I noticed that in iOS10 my iPhone looking explicitly for 'Apple TV' reflect the iPhone.

Which seems to mean I lost only audio streaming to Airport Express, that I have a couple of in my house just for that purpose. A iOS10 made my setup Airport Express obsolete or y at - it another way other than the control center?

Solved. You can broadcast on audio devices only in the music game open to the current song app and on the bottom there is a button of airtime. The airtime on the control center became reserved for the full iPhone mirrored.

  • From iOS10, no airtime more with airport don't express

    Hello

I downloaded iOS10 yesterday on an iPhone SE.

Everything is ok except that I can not connect to airport express airplay. However, I can connect to Apple TV airplay. I tried to restart Airport express (no upgrade available, I use version 7.6.7), iPhone and still no icon to connect to the Airport express.

With my macbook pro 13 "retina, there is no problem, I can see the two broadcasts, and they work perfectly.

No idea what I can do?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sharlo

I found the solution on the web...

you need to drag to the right - menu music - and then only you can choose express airport AirPlay.

It's great... Why make it simple if you can do more complicated.

  • setting up time capsule and express wired after disconnection of the airport

I have a 2 TB Time Capsule and three 3 wired express airport throughout my house.  I know that when I added first the cable express, that I had to call apple to change some settings.  Now I can't service because they are more than a year and after a recent quick breakdown (two or three) power is the airport expresses link is more and a bunch of my settings seem to have changed on the Time Capsule.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

If you think there are setting changes, then it would be better to start over.

    • First of all, you want to make a 'factory' reset on all of your base stations. This will return them to their "out-of-the-box" configuration Once finished, leave them turned off.
    • Then, we put up the Time Capsule (TC). Since it has been reset, it will broadcast a Wi - Fi unsecured network with a network name of something like: Apple network NNNNNN.
    • Use AirPort Utility on your iPhone, Mac or PC to configure the TC as a stand-alone wireless router. In other words, configure it to provide a secure WiFi network.
    • Once the TC has been configured, verify that the clients on your network can access the Internet with it.
    • If he succeeds, proceed to the next step. If this is not the case, stop and post back with your results.
    • We will now configure all of your base stations for a roaming network.
    • Power-up one of the three stations based AirPort Express.
    • Once again, you will need to use AirPort Utility to continue. The utility must now find the Express, and if all goes well, it will offer to the Express allows to extend the TC using Ethernet. It's what you want and just go through the steps automated window 'Installation '. And then on actually.
    • Do the same for the other two express base stations.
  • Airport Extreme + Express + older Express audio dropouts

    My setup is as follows:

Coaxial cable-operator-> cable modem provider-> Airport Extreme via Cat5e

Express #1 a few feet away, analog stereo output, extreme network expansion

#2 2 parts away, similar stereo out, Express extreme network extension

    2014 Macbook pro, Yosemite

When I broadcast iTunes on Express #1, is generally well from anywhere. When I listen to #2 (either by itself or in addition #1) I get occasional audio drop outs anywhere, the macbook is, even though my internet remains stable. For example, the macbook is right next to the Express #2, streaming internet radio and play through internal speakers. When I send also the audio to Express #2 (multiple speakers in itunes), which express audio stream is sporadic, although the internal speakers turned on constantly. I would have thought dropouts would leave as the macbook approached #2, but there is virtually no change.

If the macbook is right next to the #2 Express, he continued directly towards the #2 or that made a trip to the extreme and #2? Possible Express #2 is working to expand the network ok but does not just for airplay? It is a first or second generation.

    Thank you!

What are the exact models of each of your airport base stations?

When I broadcast iTunes on Express #1, is generally well from anywhere. When I listen to #2 (either by itself or in addition #1) I get occasional audio drop outs anywhere, the macbook is, even though my internet remains stable.

The main path that AirPlay takes when streaming to your configuration is:

    • Starting from the host of iTunes MacBook to AirPort Extreme.
    • Extreme for:
      • Express #1 if this Express is chosen as the "speaker" AirPlay, or
      • #2 has been chosen as speaker, express or
      • At the time, if the two were chosen as speaker.

Thus, it is possible that the path includes several obstacles (walls) for AirPlay to go.

If the macbook is right next to the #2 Express, he continued directly towards the #2 or that made a trip to the extreme and #2?

AirPlay, in theory, go first to the base station that iTunes host is connected to.

When you extend, you lose a significant amount of bandwidth just to keep the network wireless in this configuration. So the question is: do you really need to expand your network or continuously more important for you?

  • Airport Extreme dislike gigabit speed

I'm having a strange problem. Backstory... I have an older Ooma VoIP device. It works very well.  The connection is Modem > Ooma > router - my modem (ARRIS Surfboard SB6141) and I use Airport Extreme. When the devices are connected as indicated everything works fine. The modem has a 'connection' light which is orange with this configuration. According to the manual of the modem, this light indicates Ethernet (10Base-T) or Fast Ethernet (100Base-T) is running.  When I remove the Ooma system and connect the modem directly to the router, the yellow led lights up blue saying that the signal that the modem sends is now a high-speed Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-T).  Sounds great, but my router then ceases to broadcast and distribute a signal, directly and without wire connected with a cat6 cable.

You could say, then leave him alone and I can do, but I'm willing to reconfigure my system with updated Ooma device, and causes my modem from orange to blue, thus losing my Wi - Fi.  I talked to Arris (modem does not work as expected), I talked to Ooma (if the signal is working on their device, they see not the problem). So that the leaves of the router.  Can anyone figure out what's going on? Why did I lose my signal when I go directly from the modem to the router when the speed seems to be better?  (Yes, I restart both modem and router in the right order).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    David

It seems that your Ooma device only supports (up to) 100 Mbps Ethernet connections. On the other hand, does your AirPort Extreme support 1 Gbps Ethernet.

The reason why you can be make connectivity issues when connecting your Arris modem to an extreme that is there has been many positions related to this. Specifically and the problem of incompatibility between the SB61XX series modems and airport base stations. This is not bad in themselves, they just don't "play well" together. Typical complaints is poor, transfer rate, and inconsistent Internet connectivity.

    Basically, you have two choices:

    1. Replace the Arris modem with another modem series of non-SB61XX. If you plan to go this route, you must select a modem recommended by your ISP.
    2. Replace your extreme with a non-Apple router.
  • Cannot find the Airport Express Airport utility

    Hello

I have a firmware running extreme Airport 7.6.7. 6.3.6 and one Airport utility Terminal Airport Express (model A1392). I have access to my system on a Macbook pro. Also have the app on my iPhone.

My Airport Express and extreme talked to each other and have been broadcast on the Airport utility. However, I had to change my wifi password and the network password. After that, the Airport extreme restarted. After the reboot, my Express was no longer recognized by my network. The Express has a light orange and blinks repeatedly. I can't connect to the express to address the issue of amber light.

I have read many posts on the forum. However, I still have to find a solution. How to connect the airport utility to the Airport express?

Thanks for any help, you can make it,

You have changed the password for WiFi on AirPort Extreme... but... the AirPort Express Terminal was previously programmed to connect by using your password in the "old".  The Express is lost, unable to find the network at all and doesn't know what to do.

You can help the AirPort Express by doing a hard reset on the AirPort Express to clear the old network settings and passwords, and then configure the Express again to connect to your network 'nine' with the 'new' password.

After the back if you don't know how to proceed.

  • Airport most convenient that the range extender today broke up after that put 7.6.7 at level

I have two extreme airport connected with an ethernet cable, one for upstairs and one for down. One downstairs is set to extend the reach of the network wireless created by one on the floor. Also the one upstairs is configured in Bridge mode because I have a server that I use for DHCP and DNS, instead of using the airport for that. The server and the airport on the floor are connected to the same network switch.

Everything worked very well under firmware 7.6.4. But after the upgrade to 7.6.7 and without changing any settings, now my network is terribly broken. No devices can connect to the wifi network, and the network interface on the server shows errors like "has received the package on eth1 with own address as source address" and "Null supervisors, receiver of broadcasting not ready."

The problems went away by unplugging the airport down.  But this isn't a good solution.  I want to have both, and I want that they function as they did before.

When you have airports connected by ethernet... YOU MAY NOT USE EXTEND WIRELESS.

    The result is the following.

Server shows errors like "has received the package on eth1 with own address as source address" and "Null supervisors, receiver of broadcasting not ready."

You create a loop where packets are going around and around the system.

If you say you had it past 7.6.4 firmware and it was broken by 7.6.7 well, I can only say that he has never worked on any firmware with a switch or other device which is able to break loops.

Return to 7.6.4 and see if it still works.

I found that Wireless extend over 7.6.7 is more restrictive than the firmware as soon... I highly recommend 7.6.1 for it... as I can show 7.6.4 reproducible problems but it is also a case that former airports are losing just their WILL... I had success extend wireless who recently failed... and it's purely too big range... considering that it used to work properly. Which shows that the products are just slow decline.

I also get numbers of the absurdity of airport utility that I still don't understand.

for example. I got the link to work on a new Gen5 TC (refuses to bind on Gen4 TC)

If I click on the unknown link, it shows a link 450Mbps speed which is impossible. The RSSI is also what you would get with the two devices within 1 foot of the other (30 cm) No 20 M through several walls and a floor.

The end of TCgen5 by using the utility v5.6, I see the actual rate...

The link is showing 54 Mbit/s and a signal-78dB which makes much more sense. Unfortunately the other end does not record again... and the value 0 for the noise is also wrong.

Noise on the latest diagnostics wireless displays 0 for a lot of wireless.

Something rotten in the world of the Apple to the end... What with the CCMM giving a total mess to Airport utility if people use it...

  • Airport Extreme network 4G connection

I currently have the following configuration for my internet appliances:

I have an Airport Extreme unit serving wireless three units Airport Express to extend WiFi coverage throughout the House. Physically connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet are two televisions Panasonic who can access the same places predetermined via the internet (for example, BigPond movies and television, People, ABC iView, SBS OnDemand). To enable connectivity to other sites such as Netflix, Stan etc every Panasonic TV has its own unit of Apple TV connected to Airport Extreme via WiFi.

I use Airport Extreme for all my other internal needs such as web connectivity MacBook and iPhone.

The Airport Extreme WAN port is so physically connected to the ADSL modem and line phone Telstra for the Exchange, which is about 4 km.

The problem is that the speed of download of the ADSL 2 + are poor, maxing out at about 3.5mbps. When I listen to the live broadcast of MotoGP and World Superbike racing the picture often freezes while he puts in buffer. Watched movies via Netflix and Stan often freezes too.

I just ran a speed test on the Telstra Mobile 4 G network and I got a download speed of 111.94Mbps 41.77Mbps upload speed.

Now, I'm thinking it would be great if I could connect my home network to the internet via their WiFi 4 G device X Pro Advanced.

    My question is this:

Is it possible to connect the Airport Extreme to the Telstra WiFi 4 G device and the use of the mobile network for my internet and get rid of the ADSL modem? I don't think I can use USB Extreme airport connection, I think that the port is only to connect a printer, but I do not know if the Airport Extreme talk wireless Telstra 4 G device. Documentation of Telstra said their device will connect up to 10 devices using WiFi, but I do not know if there would be problems with the Airport Extreme router to talk to her.

After spending heaps on all these units of Apple (1 x Airport Extreme) and 3 x Airport Express I don't want to lose, but if there is no way to Airport Extreme wireless unit of Telstra (or if this method is ridiculous) so maybe I might be able to get the device of Telstra to talk to all my other WiFi devices directly. Then, I might be able to sell the extreme and expresses it.

I had a discussion with Apple Support through their chat session, but the person with which I spoke was not able to help.

    Thanks in advance.

You need a device that is able to connect via Ethernet to the AirPort Extreme base station.

With a plain/direct USB 4 G modem, a router broadband mobile sometimes can act in Bridge mode and thus provide a conversion method. For example, Dovado has these routers, but their modem (http://www.dovado.com/en/support/modems) compatibility list appears to cite that a single Telstra USB 4 G modem (ZTE) which supports the mode bridge.

Your question indicates, however, that the 4G modem is actually a mobile access point (providing a local Wi - Fi network). If so, it may or may not be possible to use the wireless Ethernet Bridge (maybe even a model of Apple AirPort Express appropriate) to join this hotspot wireless and then connect via Ethernet to the entrance of the AirPort Extreme. This is all experimental, however. Various problems, including double NAT, are to be expected.

  • no support of applecare for airport routers?

I just bought an Airport Extreme 802.11ac to replace a previous 5th generation of the model.

I don't know if I can get Applecare for it. In the past, other devices (iMac, Macbook, etc..) Contract AppleCare would be applied.

I find no information to date.

I had good and bad experiences with the device of Gen 5:

The bad: 3 routers crossed in 4 years (2012-2016)

Good: everything covered by the warranty and Applecare

The ugly: Tucoin the Sergio Leone film, no Breaking Bad

Anyone? Can you help me? Had similar experiences with the 5th Gen routers? My much older Express is always humming (via Airplay, I guess) after 6 years of daily water courses.

I don't know if I can get Applecare for it.

AppleCare is not available for only the AirPort Extreme.

AirPort Extreme comes with a 1 year warranty. But, if you have indeed AppleCare on your Mac, the airport is covered up to 3 years from the date of purchase.

  • Question Airport Express.

I'm so confused. I'll try to keep a long story short. I lost my internet connection a few weeks ago, and instead blame Mediacom, I blamed my old airport of 12 years and I bought a new Airport Express Terminal (with a new ethernet cable to replace a at least 20 years. While the implementation of the new Terminal Airport Express, I was unable to get anything to work and finally called Mediacom. The problem was indeed at their end, where the cables to connect in the basement of my four-plex apartment.

Now to cut to the Chase: given that I reproach myself my own equipment and not of Mediacom, I managed to set up two connections Airport Express (call Network1 and Network2). When I restart my computer, it connects inevitably to one or the other, but never the same. It connects only to those who, at the time, won't let me connect. So I turn to the other and all are well again. At the same time, when I get home, my iPhone will almost always automatically connect to the network which does not connect to the internet. It might work with Network1 while my computer only works with Network2. Same thing with my iPad. It is either 1 or Network2, but never both, and never the same. The three units can be on different networks at the same time for each group in order to connect to the internet.

    So my question (s):

How can I remove one of the networks so that it completely disappears? There is apparently some kind of criss-cross current that confuses my computer and its peripherals.

If I delete that which does not (at the time), I ALWAYS keep one connect correctly or I need to reset my Airport Express and start from scratch?

I even does not start in the subject what a pain it was to connect my Tivo to my wireless network, because it works too only with one or the other. And I still have my printer wireless to set up.

Help/suggestions/explanations are greatly appreciated. I've been using Mac and set up networks since the dark ages, but it left me speechless.

The Airport Express should not have 2 networks unless you have enabled the guest network. Is it possible that your Internet router has a Wi - Fi network on it as well?

I highly recommend you reset the default Airport Express Terminal and try again. It's really the only way you are going to get a suitable resolution.

It is also possible that your network of old and new settings are still in iCloud keychain and causing some confusion.

I would recommend you disable iCloud Keychain on each device, then make sure that you forgot the network name on each device.

Recreate your wireless network (giving a new unused name so you can tell if it's all working), then log in to the network without wire on each device, one at a time, making sure the internet connection works.

You can then re-enable iCloud Keychain if you wish.

    Good luck.

  • Poor Airport Extreme WIFI coverage

    Hello

I live in France where my Base Station is an orange "Livebox". It's a big house and I have paired my extreme AP (nine) to my Livebox router by ethernet and use an Express of the AP in the lounge which is connected via Wifi to the extreme of the AP. All works well ut strength Wifi from the extreme to the AP.

When I'm sitting on my front patio, the Wifi signal from my Livebox shit and cheap Orange, is as good as, or better than, the signal I get from my dear AP extreme. You can argue about the size of my house and the thick walls, but surely extreme AP should easily beat a cheap router?

    Tom

You can argue about the size of my house and the thick walls, but surely extreme AP should easily beat a cheap router?

It will not be an answer you want to hear, but unfortunately Apple routers are not known for their overall performance or broadcast power same levels... so they are often upgraded by other routers at a fraction of the cost.

On a site that is well respected, known for their tests of routers, you can see how AirPort Extreme, compared to the other routers in the performance measurement of the WiFi is concerned. (Look far down the list to confirm).

    http://www.SmallNetBuilder.com/tools/charts/router/bar/116-5-GHz-UPDN-c

Why I have a router from Apple?  Some reasons... (1) it helps me answer questions about the product on this forum... (2) most important reason... are that it is located in an area that is open in our House to ensure good coverage, and my wife liked the style of the better product, compared to other routers.

In my opinion... With Apple, users pay a lot for the Apple name, the style of Apple and Apple usability.

  • More often than in other music Apple will not be broadcast on my iMac, but at the same time, it will be on my iPad

I am continually frustrated with Apple's music streaming on my iMac.  Looks like a song loads, but never gets started playing.  I always thought the problem was my internet connection, but lately I discovered that, although my iMac does not load a song, if at the same time, I use my iPad on my wifi it loads and plays immediately.  What is the problem with the music does not not on my iMac?

    Hello Lucyskye,

Thank you for asking your question here in Apple Support communities. I understand you want to be able to play your music. I can't do anything without my music all day. Let me give you what I can to help you solve this and get your music to play on the iMac.

I don't want to bring music to Apple implemented correctly first. Apple's music composition only allows you to stream music from Apple on one device at a time, unless you have a family membership. Even if you have a family membership, you can still only broadcast on one device at a time by Apple ID. For this reason, I suggest isolate us the devices first and this test with the iMac.

    1. exit the Apple music on the iPad. Please leave the app. You can do this by double tapping the home screen and drag the application to the top music. This article has the instructions and example pictures. Force a nearby application on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

    2. restart the iMac.

    3. If the problem persists, start the iMac in Mode safe mode and see if the load and play songs. (Although the speakers will be disabled, just visually see if she manages to go anywhere where it usually hangs up on. This article talks about fashion without failure: try safe mode if your Mac does not start-up

    4. you want to then also to test in a Test user. This article helps with that. How to test a question in another account on your Mac user

If the problems remain and music will not play on the iMac in Mode without failure or user Test, then we want to stop the iMac. Back to the iPad, then click Settings > cellular and disable cellular data for a while. Make sure your iPad is only able to use a Wi - Fi connection and not able to access cellular data if the songs will not play on your Wi - Fi network. Then, open the app music again and try to play a song.

If the music will not play one cell time is off, the cause is some parameters with your wireless network. You can check this information for the most common causes of problems with home networks. First of all, make sure that you use a wireless network open as your home network. If you connect to a Wi-Fi as a school, work, or other business, the airport, a military base or a hotspot of a network type, it probably won't work because these types of high security and high traffic and high security networks. They do not have the necessary data back causing problems exactly like the one you are currently experiencing.

Do you use any third-party firewall (even on the router!), protection against viruses or proxies (which hide your identity on the internet)? Some security applications also do, but are called only for security or VPN. These few apps with names like Astrall or Webroot Secure Anywhere Antivirus, antimalware apps. There are literally hundreds of these applications that block the incoming ports that will not allow the function runs.

If you want to check that the port is open on your iMac and the network, you can use this article: port TCP test between computers and peripheral connectivity. Apple music uses port 80, and iTunes music sharing is port 3689. You can find a list of all the ports used by Apple here: TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software.

You can also find these two useful articles if you find that the problem is with your network.

  • Airport Time Capsule: Suspected of weak signal

    Hello

I have 3 Apple wireless devices all. The main router is the ATV, followed of an Airport Extreme, extending the network and a former Airport Express, also the extension of the network. Briefly, it is a three-storey house, on the first floor of which is a daylight basement (windows and doors on three sides), then the second and third floor (all wood of the frame).

I'm almost completely Mac/Apple-centric (my son except for the PC game), there are 6 Mac (PPC and Intel) and 4 iPhones on the printers network every day, matching, smart TVs and casual with a device visitors or 2. Generally, there is no connection problem apart from the complaints unfounded. There are a variety of El Capitan, Yosemite, Leopard, OS 9.2.1 and iOS operating systems. Computers are my MBP to 2008, two MacBooks circa 2010, 1 iMac (circa 2010), 1 lime iMac 400 has PPC G4 MDD and iPhones - 5s and 6s (2 of each).

I studied this weak signal suspected by the search for possible answers on the internet, try to use various applications to diagnosis Wi - Fi and browse the various parameters of the airport. I was not able to "find" a smoking gun or even a reason suspected for the signal is so poor. "So poor" refers to my dissatisfaction with our signal coverage - my expectation!  It is perhaps as good as it gets and I have too wait.

The layout has my ATC in my office, ground floor, the west wall of the House and approximately 4 ft above the ground. The AExt (from ATC) is through an open door and a flight of stairs and on the ramp (half wall). If you stretched a string directly between ATC and AExt would be 16' - 20'. The AExp bounced around, but currently it is in our gym, which is part of the structure of individual garage. The AExp is approximately 45 ' - 50' of the AExt and 65' or from the base (ATC). My goal is to explain the variety of signals.

I'm not the most scientific. To drive off the coast, I don't understand why there are 4 WiFi signals reported. 2-5 Ghz and 2 to 2.4 Ghz. "The only basis ' creating a wireless network" is the ATC, the other two are "the extension of the network. There are 2 reported BSSIDs and I forgot how to determine who is what hdwr.

Walk with a MB and it is Wireless Diagnostics app, it seems, most of the signal issues are explainable. One unexplained is when I get out the MB to the gym, the signal "through the roof" - it probably doubles in strength, and that's where the Express is maybe 60' of ATC. Sounds good, but why, when I go back to ATC, the fact the signal drop in half. I want to Express signal overall. I guess the Express to be the weak link, but of course does not appear like this. My main computer, the MBP, sits 15' and at glance of ATC and gets that weak signals - I guess that it could be the Airport card in the MBP, but I'd like to think not, that I have no way to test it. I'm sure that all this has to do with the 4 signals being broadcast and the differences between networks 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz.

So, why is my best farthest signal from the router (ATC) and why is it the MBP of low signal (MB too), the nearest router. Oh, I have no neighbors to 500' or more. Sorry for writing a book.

When you extend a wireless AirPort network using intermediate connections wireless base stations, it is important to understand how fundamentally. So please forgive me if I go to the places you already know.

Extended wireless airport works wheel - as with the base station extend over the hub of the wheel. Each of them extending base stations would be on a spoke of the wheel. With the new 802.11ac 802.11n base stations, you can not extend linearly. For example, in your game both the extreme and the Express would be on another spoke in the wheel, step along the same spoke. Make sense?

That said, the station of further base your Express, would have a harder time getting a signal strong enough to expand it, while extreme may not have this problem. Basically, this would explain the gap between the quality of the signal between these two base stations.

I wrote an an airport users points to try to help to how to best place a base station that extend. It may be useful.

By default, each of your simultaneous dual band base stations provide actually two wireless networks; one on the 2.4 and the other on the 5 GHz bands. Base stations extending each of these repeat if they are in the range. Note that the higher frequency band (5 GHz) would have a harder time penetrating objects, such as walls, ceilings, etc. and it is basically only usable in the same room. I'm guessing what to do in distance between base stations, the extreme is able to expand both networks, but the Express (especially, if it is a model of generation 802.11n 1) extend one or the other.

For routers to Apple, the BSSID is the MAC address wireless base station itself.

One unexplained is when I get out the MB to the gym, the signal "through the roof" - it probably doubles in strength, and that's where the Express is maybe 60' of ATC. Sounds good, but why, when I go back to ATC, the fact the signal drop in half. I want to Express signal overall.

To each base station that spread, the level of the signal from the base station can be high, but real bandwidth of the signal will be the same as what he receives in this place. Yes, you can see a high (full bar) signal level, its ability to transfer data will be reduced because of this limited bandwidth. The key is to place the base station that extend to a resort beach it is the extension to get the specific width of possible higher bandwidth SNR. It is covered in the tip that I quoted above.
