  • Error code: Crypt32 8 event and suspicious call

I am based in the United Kingdom.  I just got a phone call from someone who claimed to be calling on behalf of "Windows Operating System" and saying that they had received a number of reports of errors in my PC.  This is because some of my files were corrupted, apparently.  I was guided to the event viewer and, of course, there are what looks like hundreds of error logs that are all labeled CRYPT32 Event 8.  After a bit of the-ING and back and forth, the appellant asked to connect to the internet, and then type an email address that begins with "www.letmein...". ».  At this point the alarm bell rang and I asked the appellant to give me a number where I could call him back.  The number he gave is "not recognized" when I compose. So I have two questions:

1 is this call, I believe it is - an attempt to make me open my computer to a stranger?

    2. What is the importance of these error logs?

If you can answer one (or both!) of these Qs, I'd be happy to hear from you.

    Greetings - Bob

Calls of this kind are well known scams. You were right to be wary, but actually he just hung up immediately. Because it does not allow it to connect and don't give him no credit card information, you're fine.

  • I need to upgrade from microsoft?

I got an email today supposedly from Microsoft telling me I had to click on the link to upgrade, I am normally very good spotting spam paypal etc and report them always, but they could not help with this one as paypal is not mentioned, I put in a search and found something similar that was spam then someone can you please advise me how to tell if something like this is authentic? Thanks x

    Hello PooshKat,

First of all the email you received refers to Microsoft. Microsoft is a company not a product. The email informs you to upgrade from Microsoft, and not a particular product, e.g., Windows, Windows Live, Outlook etc. Alarm bells start ringing right on the first sentence.

While Satya Nadell is the CEO of Microsoft, he won't go around sending e-mails to customers. Overall I've been an MVP for 13 years and I never got an email from Satya Nadell, Steve Bullimer or Bill Gates.

Finally, the link in the email points to Micropix.net/includes/conf.html. While Microspix is it has nothing to do with Microsoft and the link leads to a site called "artekteknikhirdavat", which displays a fake Outlook page that requires you to sign. When signing into spammers have access to your outlook e-mail account.

On no account, click on the link. Just delete the email.

This forum post is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or the opinion of Microsoft, its employees or other MVPS.

  • I just had a phone call from microsoft/windows technical help

I feel so stupid that I fell for this but I don't

so my not very different history of all these other... Indian guy asked all week saying he needed emergency talk to me on the serious malicious virus on my computer. He said it was from Microsoft technical and necessary support about half an hour of my time. I asked him to ring back several times because with young children, it was never the right time. Anyway, he called again this morning and I thought I had better address this issue as it sounded quite serious, it sounded very authentic for me and in my mind, I thought that somebody to call me every day this week, he must be who he is, he said.  so he took me through a website (I think it was logmein123) and asked me to enter a code and said that his colleague would then control my computer.  which she did, all the time the guy was on the end of the phone explaining what she was doing.  She presented as andrea williams from the Manchester direction! She then spent over the next 40 minutes on my computer. towards the end the guy says ok we have identified as you can see (I could see some sort of thing report on my computer at this point) we found quite a few mistakes - we can fix these for you. OK, I said. Andrea williams then says I have to download to your computer one of these options (it then lists the 4 different but recommend the 4th option at a cost of £289 I foolishly said okay.)  a form then appeared on my computer asking for my card details name address date of birth ect - what I have briefed (BTW im currently hitting my head on the table where I'm writing this at my stupidity!)  Fortunately my beautiful Bank was on the ball and refused a payment. This was the point that they have began to have a bit narky with me.  the guy said he was going to pass me to andrea from Manchester who would talk to me in person to try to settle this payment. me thinking that I was going to talk to someone with a manchester accent... don't be stupid... .i started talking to another very Indian lady who was very rude and very impatient with me. then she said to me (Yes told me) do to ring my Bank while it took place on the line to address this issue. It was then I thought no Ive has had enough and finally, alarm bells began to ring! (all right all right I recently had two children, you know)
!). I told him that I would call the Bank later. reluctantly, she said ok, but said she'd call me in an hour - I said all that. It's then the strange thing happened - I tried to disconnect my computer, but it forced somehow back to and typed a message saying that please let me connected disconnect.  I typed a message and said you have learned to be pleasant and able to stop everything. then (the storys stops not here oh no) it sounds me only true to his word back an hour the second later. and said - have you talked to your bank. I said yes. What did say, she said. I said, that they said that you are a crook. at this point she just freaked out at me. told me that I needed psychiatric help. so I said, and you have to find a good job and stop robbing the people hard earned money there. then she said something quite scary. She said you wait awhile and just see what we are capable of... I hung up and then cause a chill went down my spine.
Sorry to go on and give you every little detail but despite jokes he really shake me and I hope that warn you other people that these people are horrible and won't stop not stalking you until they get what they want, even when they have been rumbled. they have no scruples or even care about their effects on people.  They you in real, and they are completely credible.  After the call I informed fraud action (UK) the 03001232040 that gives you a reference of crime and pass information to the police. I was also advised to get a reputable company computer to look at the computer where they left any damage to the computer.
can someone advise in the meantime if I need to do anything with regard to my computer, like most I'm now worried that they have endangered the security of my computer. also can they get on my computer once again without knowing me.

Suggest you read the following: http://ask-leo.com/i_got_a_call_from_microsoft_and_allowed_them_access_to_my_computer_what_do_i_do_now.html

Recommend you cancel card credit/financial accounts that could be in your computer and change all passwords and have you reformat/reinstall your operating system.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/help/install-reinstall-uninstall

Your computer and information (financial or other) must be considered as a compromise. You can uninstall everything related to logmein123 (which is a program legitimate and it is doubtful that the scammers could not back into your computer), but I wouldn't recommend that you even connect to the internet until it is reformatted.

    Good luck...

  • Received call scam, let them connect to my computer was damaged to my PC?

Has been damaged to my PC?

I just got a phone call from an Asian-sounding guy who said he was from support.com windows. He gave me the address of the site to verify that it was legitimate. I explained that I used the basics of microsoft for the security of my pc. He asked me to go into different folders and ended up in the event viewer. He then asked me to use the filter, and he said that I had a large number of viruses in the present. He then asked me to access a website for remote access ammyy.com. What I did and then he said that he would remove my security but I said that I didn't change. He said new security and have deleted viruses would be £? (I don't remember) but that's what alarm bell rang for me and I didn't say thank you. He then said that he could remove the virus for another amount. Yet once, I said no. He closed the access remote, disconnected from my computer and hung up. I immediately ran a full scan and nothing suspicious has been identified.

    Please can you help me

    1. he could have done damage to my PC - do I need to do anything to protect?

    2. He would have no information from my PC?

    3. do I need to audit the "Event Viewer", as he says and delete the warning and error messages?

    4. I deleted the icon bottom right of my screen of pc ammyy.

I'm not particularly computer literate and feel so devoid of sense allow this person as much access as I did. Do I need to take action now?

Thank you for your help with this

There probably would have turned off anything to do with the error report. So, if everything has failed, it wouldn't connect the error/s.

No doubt would have taken information. Their intention is probably (to charge you for nothing). Everything they do is disable services and stuff from your system to the top.

Check out my sister in Australia was sucked into this type of scam. And paid $250 AU. I logged into his system after with teamviewer to fix.

And they have disabled the services to do with the error report. The task manager would not work (because a service has been disabled)

Don't worry all that is in the event viewer. The system works.

Contact your local police and tell them about this

  • Impossible to uninstall potentially harmful program

I found a program called "VIA HD audio deck" on my PC. Not installed by myself. When I google this program, I found that it can be harmful, and some see it as a malware. I am not able to uninstall the program with the uninstall feature. In accordance with the directions on Google, I then deleted the folder and files through I found scattered on the C drive, but there is still left overs that I can't get rid of. There is a program available on the net uninstall, specifically to VIA, but I don't know if it is safe to use or just another scam to get access to a PC. Does anyone can help with advice?

This is almost certainly just another scam to get access to a PC!

You do not have a response like that of Google if it was something to ring the alarm bell:

  • BlackBerry smartphone how to cut all the sounds?

    Hello.

    I have a v5.0.0.400 (Platform 5.1.0.110) 9700 "BOLD"

I always keep my phone on vibrate - I prefer this way I can be discreet and meet my convienience.

I put an alarm the other day and was shocked to discover that she played an alarm bell.

I also wanted to watch a movie in silence, but it wouldn't let me, and started playing the track despite me thinking I had all the sounds.

Is there a master setting to cut all the sounds, period?

If this is not the case, how could I do to at least the alarm sounds?

Thanks in advance for the help.

No, there is not a master setting.

The alarm... set your alarm in the clock settings > Options > set alarm in Silent, or with or without vibration.

For the film, simply adjust the volume down to nothing.

  • Why broadcast limiter disappeared and why this constant reinvention?

My project files have now a 2014 of the first version, a version of 2015 and a 2015.2 (2nd update whatever it is).  2015 stank, it has totally messed up my audio which kept falling, my colleagues were moaning about Adobe reinvent a product perfectly work in something of so buggy it was unusable at times.  I guess that the tire was when I sent a spot for the clearance of TV, three times I have sent and three times he's been bounced. I finally managed to talk to an engineer who told me to use the Broadcast limiter, which I explained Adobe advised (in their wisdom) in favor of the video limiter (which does not work for these purposes; Yes Broadcast purposes!).  His advice; return to the 2014 version and use the Broadcast limiter (Adobe isn't this ring alarm bells?).  I tried the limiter standing with different settings, Yes, I know that you can set it to 'Intelligent' just Chroma, Luma only or the other two and that any combination under the Sun, yes I tried to limit to 0% and 100% not the default, -30% and 130%, I even tried an upper limit of 97%, it has not yet been QC.  So I decided to download the version of 2014 and guess what, I couldn't open my project because the first isn't aaaargh backward compatibility. A quick search of your forum and the first message that I've read is a guy who has been sending tasks for years using the diffusion filter and now they fail, even irritable QC that I landed said "if it ain't broke...". "so, they think that's crazy and these people are the reference on what we do in this industry.

That is that with large Companies, they arrive at a point where they think they can do what they like because they own the Lion share of the market, then they wonder why everyone jumps ship when a better more stable platform, the arrogance (or is it megalomania) is remarkable.  I would rather have a reliable product that works that this constant need of reinvention, do you really think it makes you love your customers, have you stopped to consider why people stayed with windows 98 for so long before going, or why Windows 10 is now be delivered free, by the love of God wake up, stop and think before send us these terrible updates?

  • Group by month and also to see the month with no record

Hi - a mental block important this morning, pretty sure it's a simple one types just need of you experts to point me in the right direction...

Using the data from the example below, I just need to generate a report to show the username, mon-yy, number of transactions. I need to show the 12 months, with a zero if there is no transaction.

I don't know if it's the right approach, but I use a subquery to generate 12 months, like obvisouly they aren't in transaction data. The fact that I have to_char against the kind of subquery to set the alarm bells ringing, I think that there is a better solution, but as I say, mental block.

The query at the end was to show the thing of subquery works, but for the life of me I can't think today how to extend this option to include the user ID and give me the desired result (bottom code block).

Frustrating when it should be relatively simple.

    Hello

This is what a Partitionné Outer Join :

    select sub.mon
    , count (t.transdate)
    from (
              select to_char ( add_months (sysdate, -level)
                        , 'MON-YY'
                        ) as mon
              from dual
              connect by      level      <= 12
           ) sub
left outer join trans t PARTITION BY (t.userid)
                        ON sub.mon = to_char (transdate,'MON-YY')
    group by t.userid
    , sub.mon
    order by t.userid
    , to_date (sub.mon,'MON-YY')
    ;

A standard outer join ensures that you will get each row of the table of conduct displayed at least once. But you want each line of void poster n times, where n is the number of distinct identifiers in t. "PARTITION BY t.userid" means "treat each distinct value of the user name as a separate table" and the results will all be clauses together.

There were new partitioned outer joins in Oracle 10. Previously, you had to form a set of distinct values for the user name, then the join cross-who with the distinct void months and finally outer join for the actual data.

  • Files not updated to default.dwt

NONE of my pages are updated in the model that I created from. To create them, I did the following:

File > new > templates > Site name > model name > create...

Then I would put the file to all that I created... for example, index.htm

I did it for 6 new pages...

Then I change the links on the template and got it, and when people ask me if I want to update ALL the pages that have been created based on this template I answer Yes... (obviously)...

But... the pages are NOT updating. He said even in the 'update Pages dialog box". It is said that no. Pages have been updated?

Why is this and what possible cause could there be.

I have a manual of Dreamweaver and have defined the site a dozen times (after removing all first) and I have the dome RIGHT to THE BOOK... but the model dang will NOT update the pages of sites created from it... grrrr...

Any suggestions? Thanks for any response...

    HEK

    UPDATE:

I went to the link you as his explanation on number 4 was a little more in depth, and as such, it rang some alarm bells.

He read... Make sure that you make changes to an editable region in the template. Changes to the editable regions in a .dwt files will not be set to child pages. Only changes to the locked regions will be spread.

I didn't KNOW that changes to editable regions in a .dwt files will not be set to child pages.

So I tried a quick experiment. I removed the editable and rewritten the part of the model that I wanted in a NON editable area... and it worked.

A big thank you to you as your aid paid OFF... and I spent all day on this...

Thank you very much... NOW, I KNOW... (Yes, I'm knew to this...)

This problem is now solved... Phew!

  • App Apple Watch Timer is setting alarms

I see a weird behavior with the OS3 timer app Watch: when the countdown is reached, I get the usual "done timer' screen with the bell sounds and the haptic feedback. I type the 'Stop' and stop the alerts. So far so good, but after 1 or 2 seconds, an alarm goes off saying "COUNT_DOWN_TIME_REACHED". Of course, I know that, I just rejected in the clock application so why also the notifications of alarms app? This never happened in OS1 and OS2. Is it supposed to be a 'novelty' for OS3? Is it possible to disable it?

    Restart your Apple Watch

    1. Hold down the side button until you see the cursor off the power.
    2. Drag the slider to turn off your device.
    3. Once your watch turns off, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo.

    Then try the timer.

  • Stuck pre alarm Notification icon

I set a daily alarm and rejected it as I would when I wake; However, the Bell on the bottom right icon will not disappear.  I clicked it and it warns me of the alarm that I rejected.  I even went in the application of clocks and turned off all the alarms.  It's annoying because I don't want to continue to see an alarm notification telling me to wake up!  Thank God he is not really alarming all the time!  Please help this notification with compensation.

Can you tap the icon, and then tap - drag the notification to the left and outside?

The problem is how bright Gets the display before the alarm sounds. He woke up before the alarm - it was like a flashlight shining in my eyes. Is it possible to adjust the brightness levels fir alarm?

I have iPhone 6s more with iOS 10.0.2. Today, it is at least the second time that an alarm on this subject which is quite unexpected. This time, while I got on a train to work. I know that I have has not yet set the alarm for at least several days. Especially not for the moment, 06:45. When I check all the alarms to see whoever it might be, I see clearly that there is no alarm, when disabled, set to 06:45. It's really disturbing. Is anything else on that?

    Hi vmvmvm,

Welcome to the communities of Apple Support!
