All add ons and suddenly wiped bookmarks.

yesterday, I installed a new antivirus on my computer windows 8 (total kaspersky IPSec 2015) and did a full scan. everything was fine. money without danger causes a computer total freeze which is weird, but he was doing this on my old kaspersky as well. ID recently updated firefox to the latest version, so I wrote chalked it up to a compatibility issue.

well worked all night, he's walking this morning, still all good.

I decided to try secure just money one more time quo all of the computer, had to make a forced shutdown of freezing.

When I started the computer after that, I found that all my firefox settings have disappeared - all preferences, bookmarks and Add ons have disappeared. I have a theory that this may be due to a file damaged due to the forced shutdown, but is it possible to recover these parameters?

I don't know how to restore the addons.
I have not checked the restore bookmarks - theres no available restorations.

my whole profile has been deleted?

Well, I think I got this resolved, perhaps?

In this case, I took everything that was in the old profile and everything I have copied in the new profile, it ignores if she refused. It has restored all my bookmarks and addons as they were!

((although I'm having a little trouble with google apparently being a non-secure site - but that could be a separate problem))

    Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;

Type of topic: preferences #advanced< enter > in the address bar.

    Under Advanced, select General.
Find and stop using hardware acceleration.

Search web sites secure. Are there problems?

Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off temporarily
hardware acceleration, restores some settings and disables
-Add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem disappears,
that tells us something. If it is not the case, this tells us something else.

FireFox hangs on me regularly with 100% CPU usage. I have add all and disabled plugin. In safe mode I don't have the problem. Don't know what to do next because I have disabled all add-ons and plug-ins.

OK I fixed that by disabling 'Use hardware acceleration when available' in the 'Advanced' Options I had to restart FireFox for the changes to take effect.

I loaded a bunch of Add-ons and extensions in Firefox. Since then, when I close and re-open Firefox, change my bookmarks toolbar menu. They are all still there, but their location on the menu bar change tool. Example, I keep the most used where they are visible on the front of the tool bar, but to re - open, they are everywhere, but visible and probably near the bottom of the toolbar drop-down list is looooong.

  • 'Open the link in a new tab' does not work. I tried with all disabled add-ons and it still does not work.

When I right-click a link and select 'open in a new tab' and 'opens in a new window', nothing happens. In addition, nothing happens when I type a query in the search bar and press ENTER. I tried to restart firefox in safe mode and disabling all add-ons, but the problems continue.

The setting in "tools > Options > tabs: open new windows in a new tab instead" is for links that specify a target window (for example, target = _blank) to open the link.
This option allows to divert these links into a new tab instead of a new window.
Links that do not specify a target always open in the current tab, unless you redefine that with a middle-click or Ctrl (Mac: Cmd) left click (new tab) or a left click UPDATE (new window) or via the context menu.

You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Firefox keeps crashing outside the safe mode (reset, uninstall-reinstall and disable all add-ons do not help)

I've actually had this problem for over a year now with previous versions. The browser always crashes just after that I start it, but it seems to work fine in safe mode. I tried to reset the Firefox, disable all add-ons mode security and reinstall the application, but none of these methods does not seem to work. • Spin the ball of death, have checked all add-ons

Hi, use Firefox 40.0.2 on a Macbook Air the ball of spinning of death all the time recently and have only on Firefox... other browsers are ok. When I disabled all add-ons, the spinning ball will stop. When I laboriously disabled and tested one at a time, the ball turns never went away. How is that possible? Is there anything that I think not or anything else I can try? Here are the screenshots of all my Add-ons. Thank you!!

Maybe it's time to try refresh (called "Reset" in older versions of Firefox) which can resolve many issues by restoring Firefox as his default from factory and save your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose all the extensions, toolbar customizations, and certain preferences. See article Firefox Refresh - reset modules and parameters for more information.

    Refresh for Firefox:

    1. Open the troubleshooting information page using one of the following methods:

      • Click the menu button

        click Help

and select troubleshooting information. Should open a new tab containing your troubleshooting information.

      • If you are unable to access the Help menu, type Subject: support in your address bar to bring up the troubleshooting information page.
    2. At the top right of the page, you should see a button that says 'Refresh Firefox' ('reset Firefox' in older versions of Firefox). Click on it.
    3. Firefox closes. Once the update process is complete, Firefox will display a window with the imported information.
    4. Click Finish and reopen Firefox.

Before updating, you might want to take note of your Add ons that will be deleted.

This corrects the problem? Please report to us!

    Thank you.

  • Until I disabled all add-ons, 'New tab' did nothing! Any thoughts?

    {No Biggy}

    NEW TABS.

The New Tabs box was totally unresponsive until I restarted Firefox with all Add-Ons Disabled.

The main Add-Ons used were, FlashGot \ with Internet Download Accelerator (IDA), and 1 or 2 resizing tools, to reduce page size which was constantly oversize.

Anyone care to shed a little light on what they think is a probable reason(s) why this occurred?

If it works in Mode safe mode and normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) off and then try to find which extension is the cause by allowing an extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit ' (Windows: Firefox/file > quit;) Mac: Firefox > quit Firefox. Linux: Firefox/file > exit)

I open the window manage add-ons and go to the tab search providers.  Click on the ones you want to remove, then click on remove from the bottom of the box.  If this does not work, open the window desinstaller uninstall programs in Control Panel, select them, and uninstall them there.  I wouldn't use a removal tool because I heard that they can damage your computer or be impossible to uninstall when you are finished with them, but it's your decision.

  • I just updated Firefox and now it crashes, does not not tabs or add-ons, and the user interface is all messed up.

I was power off update of Firefox for a while because I knew some of my modules aren't compatible yet, and the main reason I use firefox is because of the multitude of modules. Finally today I decided to go and let it install. As soon as he returns to the top, it's completely different from the way I had my firefox. The buttons are all moved around, each tab has two Xs to close with the back button does not work, there is no way to scroll more tags do not take on the screen and for some reason the firefox button is not collapse in the main beam.

My session has not been restored, either, which really annoyed me, because I had a very high volume of open tabs. Right now I just want to come back, because I hate what happened, but I know that's not possible.

I'm sorry to hear that you have so many questions. What version of Firefox you used before?

The problem of double title bar has been identified as a problem with the extension of the tax Mix Plus but it does not affect everyone, there is an interaction with something else (not exactly what clear although Norton Toolbar has been mentioned in a thread).

There is a new version available that you can try. If Firefox is stable enough to do...

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > Add ons > ' gear' icon > check updates

If your beta version does not update, you can try to install from the Add-ons site.

More generally, can I suggest disabling the extensions as much as you can live without for 24 hours and gradually reactivate? This should help isolate the interactions between them. As you know, you can do so here:

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

Finally, about your old session, if you have not closed Firefox, you could find a sessionstore.bak file in your profile folder that contains your old session. For easy access to this file, try

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

Grab a copy of this file and save it somewhere outside the folder because it is overwritten when you close Firefox. Had to run, but if find you one with a suitable date, a person can help you to restore.

  • New Firefox, will not save the homepage and will open and display all add-ons every time!

Okay - years old now, I used Firefox ONLY - he had the best extensions and modules from any other browser out there. Add to that, it is safe and very fast. This is my default browser.

This week I logged on my DeviantArt site and odd ads began to appear in the lower corners left and right of the browser, unlike what I'd never seen before. Add to that, they were very inappropriate. So I guess something was wrong and went through three, as in 3, programs to find out if I got "bugs" the origin of the problems. And of course, there was a kind of nasty bug in Firefox, causing all sorts of questions.

So, following the suggestions to fix, as well as the suggestions on here, I uninstalled Firefox (21) and then reinstalled the new version, 23. At first, I thought, ' Wow, this is really very fast! When I opened Firefox it does not go to my home page, he went to the Firefox start page, as well as the opening of the tabs for EACH add-on and extension!

Yes, open tools, Options and reset the home page of my homepage, https://www.google.com

Simple and something I've done before. I'm a geek and have worked on my own additions. Set up my home page, has been working in Firefox and went to youtube to download a video it would not! So went to DLhelper, read their comments, changed one of the strings and voila! No problems!

So I thought it was fixed and I was happy. It was last night. This morning, I start the computer and the first thing we do is to open Firefox. And what happens? Oh, Yes, that's right, NOTHING THAT I wanted TO! It's back to the start page of Firefox, and it opens tabs for EACH SINGLE module!

Holy carp, tired now. So I research of 8 this morning until about an hour ago, so a little more than 5 hours, that I keep trying to fix it based on instructions of Firefox. Go to topic: config, work on channels, change the info from the home page, etc. Save it. Return to tools, Options, and there is my home page. Close Firefox and open and what the heck? Once again, back to where it was, opening, as if I just downloaded this browser. Now, I spent literally HOURS trying to solve this problem and I am so frustrated that I'm almost ready to uninstall it! My one complaint is that I've looked everywhere to try to find this same problem and it does not. Is true, I am the only one having this weird problem?

    You can reset firefox?

See below for what it does.

  • The firefox button with all the plugins and Add ons and stuff do not appear... what should I do?

I saw the video of tutoring for firefox and it says that if I want to add ons to appear I click firefox, but I don't see nowhere... How can I add?

The Firefox button is not available on the Mac, it's because of how the Mac handles menus.

For the Mac, to access the Add-ons Manager, on the Tools menu select Add-ons.

  • How can I fix my toolbar? I type a website, but it does not when I hit enter or the arrow. I checked my Add ons and extensions already

the toolbar at the top will not work. I checked Add ons extensions and I restarted. It still does not work. I tried safe mode and it didn't work either

Maybe it's this: due to a change in the way that Firefox 39 associate keywords with bookmarks and/or history, the address bar is newly sensitive to corruption in the database that stores your history and bookmarks (the places.sqlite file).

The developers are working on a solution, but that could take weeks to reach you.

At this point, the best solution is to delete/rename the places.sqlite file, but then you lose all your history, if this really isn't very attractive to people who rely on history to revisit the sites.

In case you want to try this - in case you do not receive the best suggestions - here's how:

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • (menu bar) Help > troubleshooting information

In the first table of the page, click on the view file"" button. This should launch a new window that lists the various files and folders in Windows Explorer.

Leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause while Firefox finishing its cleanup, then rename places.sqlite to something like oldplaces.sqlite. (I'm not suggesting delete this file, just in case you find yourself in need again).

Firefox creates temporary files related to places.sqlite and those should be renamed / remove as well. Check places.sqlite - shm and places.sqlite - wal and if you find them, rename them as well.

When you start Firefox back up again, he should start a new database places.sqlite and import your last backup automatic bookmark. Can you confirm that all your bookmarks are present? The address bar works normally again?
