All external hard drives showing that raw

Hi all

Hope you can help. For the last two days none of my 3 external drives have been showing under 'my computer '. They work fine when I attach them to another machine. When I look at my "Device Manager" readers are here and in "computer management" records show as "simple, basic, RAW, healthy (primary partition) but they have"drive letter"like I said they work perfectly when I attach them to other machines."

Thank you

If you changed the partition, Windows Vista has been known to reassign letters local drive incorrectly.  Looking through several docs, let's say if plugged in, unplug it and plug it back to Windows to recognize it.

It is a doc from Windows 7, but it relates as well to Windows Vista

    Hello

    Thanks for the update.

I wish to inform you that it is possible to merge two partitions into one, if both are on the same hard drive.

You will need to remove one of the partitions and extend the other to include one deleted.

  • How to recover my data stored on an external hard drive now that I use a MAC

I bought a Sea Gate 2 to external hard drive for my Dell PC a few months back.  It saved my whole computer and check everyday for any extra stuff back up.  Recently, I switched to a MAC, and in a prime time could not open at all.  However, I called door seafarers and they helped me set up my Mac so now I can open it as a hard drive.  However I still do not see the material recorded from my PC.  I was told that Windows has somehow compress the files when it is saved as a backup, and this is perhaps why I can't see my old files.  If anyone has any ideas I'd love to help.

It's really a question you need to ask the experts of Mac (choose the forum that pertains to your variety of Mac).  However, the information that anyone who will help you needs to know is what software created backup files.  In other words, what "saved" your computer?

For example, you use Windows Ntbackup?  You use software provided with the Seagate drive?

If you can open the Seagate on Mac disk, configure your Mac to be able to show file name extensions (the letters after the dot): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh825.html and register this file extension to your aid application.

  • Unable to create/delete/change on all external hard drives only shortcuts

My problem is one I haven't seen and can't find an answer through research.

    Observations of the problem:

    • I tried to copy files to my external hard drive for backup.  All files copy very well, with the exception of shortcuts (.lnk) files.  They give the error "Destination folder access denied" that says: "You must be authorized to perform this action."
    • The error above then we observe when I tried to create a shortcut on the external hard drive.
    • When I tried to delete a shortcut I get the error "File Access Denied", "you must be authorized to perform this action. You need permission from the administrator of the computer to make changes to this file. »
    • When I found the Security tab, under properties of a shortcut, I get the message "You are not allowed to view or change the permissions of the object settings."
    • When I click on the button Advanced on this window, the owner tab says "Unable to display current owner." When I try to take ownership, it tells me to close and reopen the properties of the object until I can view or change permissions.  When I do this, it always says "Unable to display the owner current." and nothing has materially changed since before my attempt to take ownership of.
    • I tried several other external hard drives, and all of the above problems are the same.
    • All other files besides the .lnk file are perfectly accessible, modifiable and suppressible.  All .lnk files are the only files that have this problem.

I already tried without success the following:

    • Appropriate shortcuts.
    • Taking possession of the entire hard drive.
    • Ensure that I am a member of the Administrators group and connected as well.
    • Reset .lnk files default file associations.
    • Affecting the control settings to "Always notify me" "never notify" user account and vice versa.
    • To ensure that my connection is defined as administrator.

    All solutions?

The problem persists there then in Safe Mode? If it works then please this simple test. He starts from the principle that your external drive uses the E: drive letter.

    1. Open a command prompt (cmd.exe).
    2. Type these commands exactly and press ENTER after each:
      dir > E:\Test.txt
      dir > E:\Test.lnk
      copy '% UserProfile%\Desktop\*.lnk' E:\
    3. Make a report.

  • 250GB external hard drive shows only 125 GB

    Hello

I just bought an external hard drive 250 GB, I plugged it opend my computer one selected the external hard drive on the side of the rite of the screen in the detail he gives me the total size of 125 GB it's just?

    Hello

I recommend you check the external HARD disk size in disk management.
Please enter this option right click 'My computer' icon and select 'manage '. Computer Management opens and there you can choose disk management.

The other possibility is that the drive was badly formatted. I also recommend formatting again. Check if it is possible to create a partition 2 with about 125 GB of space

Sometimes when the hard disk becomes incredibly full, you can even copy files to an external hard drive. In such cases, simply pull the disk and put in a USB external hard drive case. Attach it to a working computer and copy the data in this way, either on a drive in the system of work or another external hard drive (it will be slower). Delete the data out of the full disc. • Hard drive showing in RAW format.

    Hello.

I have 2 x 3 TB HARD drives in RAID 0 connected to the Marvell controller on board my board P9X79E-WS. Recently I've been doing bluescreened then I ran a few tests as suggested on the MS forum and I don't know when that happened, either after a BIOS update, or after you run the of Driver Verifier (Driver Verifier - hunt down a bad driver is include. - Microsoft community) but now my RAID 0 comes in RAW format.

    Help please.

Wait, I found the problem... but still need a solution. I bought a GTX 780ti who had a strict notice updated bios.

So I updated my bios to v1306 to v1506... and then it happened. After the update of the BIOS, apparently she also resets, which also means the RAID reset, so if someone can tell me how to get this working again, it would be great!

  • Library of photos on external hard drive does not open

So, I recently backed up my 2012 macbook pro on an external hard drive using time machine and wiped the computer. The hard drive shows that my old hard drive was saved (there ~ used 400GB the 1 TB), however when I try to open my photo library, it tells me that files cannot be saved? I was wondering if there's another way to open these files in addition to using pictures? the file says it's big 235 GB so I know that my photos and videos are out there. If someone could help me that would be great! The last 5 years of my life are in this file. (,:

You cannot open a Time Machine backup of the library directly. You must first restore somewhere.

Time Machine is a backup tool, not a tool for archiving. It gives you a window of time retrieve data that has been lost in the backup source. You can't count on it to keep the files you want to keep indefinitely. All these files should be saved with the rest of your original data. The files that you delete from the source volumes will be finally removed from backups, after a variable delay which depends on your usage model and the size of the backup volume.

  • Can I use time capsule as external hard drive?

Can I use time capsule as external hard drive so that I can access a file or a specific folder by searching for its name?

A TC is now and for always player network... no external. So there are limits to its use.

If you are multitasking your TC with Time Machine and then using a DMG file as a virtual drive is better than directly copy files... However sharing becomes impossible. One person at a time can open the DMG.

    See pondini. T3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html

Old but still interesting to read.

You can certainly create a folder on the TC and copy your files on it, and then perform a search. Research is slow on wireless is so the speed of transfer of large files. With the help of ethernet is certainly encouraged to desktop computers.

Sharing folders on the TC is also now more difficult with increasing security at El Capo and OS later. You do not create on the computer records are not available. And even the ones you create can occasionally and autonomous change permissions (since the TC controls drive not the computer), you lock your own files on... I answer these questions once a week.

Not all software on Mac supports using network drives. The most difficult is photos that can corrupt the library due to disconnections... which are the most common wireless. Be warned backups are important and not easy to do because of the slowness of the USB port on the TC and you end up really need to another location on the network for backup on.

Generally, I advise the people not not to use the TC for direct files... That is to say, if you edit a document, make sure that it is on a local drive... When you have finished the document, you can copy it to the network drive and delete the local version. Easy for... not so easy documents for photos with major libraries.

A TC cannot save itself and Time Machine backup impossible network drives... This means that no backup will be your files in the TC, unless you take the initiative and do it.

  • External hard drive USB on Time Capsule

    Hello

I have an external USB hard disk and plug it into the USB port of my Airport Time Capsule makes it accessible wireless (if on the sidebar of the window under the section 'sharing' I click on the Time Capsule to enter airport name next to his record 'data', I also have a folder with the name of my USB HD and I can access).

Now the problem. I have a USB external hard drive, I can access normally connect my iMac or iBook portUSB one, but, if connected to the time Capsule... nothing happens.

So there must be a difference in the two external hard drive. What a difference creates the problem, why and what I can do is my question.

    Can someone help me?

So far, here is what I found to be the similarities and differences:

The two serial ATA, 2 to, partition GUID mapped external USB hard drive.

In disk utility, one that is visible on the Time Capsule is displayed as 'external HARD disk support' physical disk with OS X extended physical volume. One who isn't appears as physical disk 'external media' with logic extended OS X volume.

    Hi Ranmaboy,

I understand you have two external hard drives USB that you want to connect to your airport Time Capsule via USB, but one who is not recognized by the Capsule from the airport. Given that this player connects to your iMac without problem, I would recommend that you backup all data stored on the disk, and then follow the steps here to re - format the drive using disk utility:

Backup disks, you can use with Time Machine - Apple Support

Format a drive connected to an AirPort Extreme 802.11ac or Time Capsule

If you are using an AirPort Extreme 802.11ac or Time Capsule, you can connect an external drive to the USB port on these devices for use with Time Machine. Follow these steps to reformat the hard disk in the first place, it is ready for use.

    1. Connect the hard drive to a USB port on your Mac.
    2. Open disk utility.
    3. On the left side of the disk utility window, select your external drive (or one of its partitions).
    4. Click the delete or delete button on the toolbar.
    5. On the Format menu, choose Mac OS extended (journaled).
    6. Type a name for your drive, and then click clear.
    7. After that the drive is deleted, close the disk utility window.

Once the disk has been reformatted, try to connect this back to the airport Time Capsule to see if it is now recognized.

Have a great rest of your day!

  • Save the playlist on external hard drive.

I would like to be able to export a playlist on an external hard drive, so that all the mp3s in this playlist are grouped in the same order on the hard disk as in the playlist.

    Hello Nomad vagabond,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

If I understand your message that you want to export a playlist on an external hard drive and want to keep all the songs in the same order that they were when they were in the iTunes library. I have stopped at my music as well.

This article contains information on the iTunes library:

    On the iTunes library files

The iTunes Library.itl file is a database of songs in your library and playlists that you created.

Thus, songs and playlists will be recorded how you created and you can move them to the external hard drive by following these steps:

Manage and backup your iTunes library

    Best regards.

  • External hard drive on Macbook Pro

So I got a macbook pro for about 5 years now, and he is currently shooting OSX El Capitan. I have a Toshiba external hard drive that runs on it. I had problems editing on that before, when I upgraded to OSX El Capitan, but I downloaded a update for it and it started working again.

Just today, I just bought a new macbook pro (retina, 512 GB HDD, 8 GB memory display) also running OSX El Capitan. But when I plug the external hard drive it does not rise. I've seen similar issues on here before the problem is "lack of power", but I don't see why my old work and isn't my only new. I also saw a solution to reformat the external hard drive, but that would erase all my data on the external hard drive, and which completely defeats the purpose of an external HD then. And for me, it is already formatted for mac. Did he have the same problem and found a solution?

What format is the external? How is it connected to the Mac? How is it linked to iPhoto?
