Allocation of memory the hypervisor

Hello

If I have 2 or 3 servers running on a host computer, say a domain controller and a sql server - how much memory should a leave - or rather, not allocated to virtual machines?

The hypervisor is VMware Esx4i

If I leave 1 GB, would this be enough?

Thank you

ESX(I) may commit too much RAM. If at some point all the VMS ALL wanted their allocated RAM you would have a problem but under the heading of normal memory use fluctuate. ESXi wants a minimum of 2 GB.

  • What is the time it takes to run out of memory and cpu between the hypervisor and vm?

    I wanted to know the time for the performance of CPU and memory between VMS and the hypervisor.  I know that there is a sort of delay when the virtual computer runs cpu or memory because it has transmitted to the hypervisor and handed over to the virtual machine.  Thanks for the help.

    It depends on the workload and server usage.  If the system is not completely loaded and active code is in user space there is zero delay.  If the host is used then the virtual machine is provided a slice of time to system resources and will have to wait his turn to access the CPU.  In this case, the time is according to the system load.

    In short, delay of CPU and memory can be and is often zero.

  • Allocation of memory to the VM

    I have a Windows 2003 virtual machine with memory following values:

    Memory active: 357MB, granted memory: 2 GB.

    When I look in the Task Manager I see a process uses 1.2 GB of RAM.

    How it is possible to have a process consuming 1.2 GB if Active memory is 357 MB? The VM not the paging memory inside the guest OS.

    What you see in the Task Manager, is the amount of virtual memory is allocated/paid to the process.  This does not mean that memory is very active.  In addition, memory is granted in pieces, and therefore generally a page is marked in memory for the entire piece.  Thus, pieces is awarded under a page are marked.  Thus, memory granted to a process does not always mean memory actively used.

  • Allocation of memory in vmware workstation

    I'm new to vmware.  I have a server I'll test this on.  I have a Server Windows 2008 R2 with 4 GB of memory.  If I install vmware workstation on it and install a virtual machine Windows XP with 1 GB of RAM allocated to it, does this mean that when the virtual machine is running the XP virtual machine has 1 GB of memory to use the host (Windows 2008) system will have 3 GB for himself to use?

    Thanks for any advice in advance.

    If your virtual machine is fully using the 1 GB or RAM, then Yes, you are correct - but remember that Workstation is just an application that runs on your server, so if the virtual machine does not all allocated memory, the application will require all this memory and so you will have more memory available for the physical host.

  • Allocation of memory - unlimited option resources

    Looking for assistance with a script that will run on all virtual machines and show where the unlimited option is checked/not checked for the allocation of memory resources.  Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    You can get a list of virtual machines and the setting of memory resource allocation with:

    Get-VM | `
    Get-VMResourceConfiguration | `
    Select-Object @{N="Name";E={(Get-View $_.vmid).name}},MemLimitMB

    If the value of MemLimitMB is - 1, this means unlimited.

  • Allocation of memory for a class system (avoid new/delete)

    My plugin has been crashing a lot, but only under Windows. I realized that the culprit is in my code for the creation of a bitmap GDI + drawing.

    The code I use is:

    ...

    Bitmap image * tempImg = NULL;

    try {}

    tempImg = new Bitmap (width, height, bitmap_bytes_per_rowL, PixelFormat32bppPARGB, reinterpret_cast < BYTE * > (bitmap_dataP));

    } catch (A_long & e) {}

    Return PF_Err_OUT_OF_MEMORY;    Assuming that...

    }

    If (tempImg! = NULL) {}

    canvas = Graphics::FromImage (tempImg);

    delete tempImg;

    }

    In this case, bitmap_bytes_per_rowL has been calculated before, and bitmap_dataP refers to the memory correctly allocated (via host_new_handle()) where the drawing will happen. tempImg is an object Bitmap GDI + Windows, that is only used to create the object Graphics "canvas." Once it has achieved its objectives, it will be deleted.

    I'm 99% sure that it is the cause of my crashes. It crashes all the time and it is more likely when the code is compiled in release mode.

    So, I have two options:

    -Allocation of memory for the Bitmap object using host_new_handle (sizeof (Bitmap)), and lock up the handle to get a pointer to my bitmap object. Problem, it is, how to initialize, because I will no longer use the keyword "new"?

    -Create my Graphics 'canvas' object without starting by creating a Bitmap object. That would be my preferred method, but the only other way to create a Graphics object is via an HDC and HWND, neither of which I know how to access and then how do I associate my (real) memory of drawing?

    Thanks for the tips!

  • Allocation of memory in ESXi 3.5 problem

    Hello

    Before I switched to using ESXi 3.5 to host my VM guest, I used VMware Server 1.0.6 to the guest virtual machines. However, I think that

    the VMServer could not allocate correct memory that I specified in the virtual machine settings, for example, I put 3 GB of memory to a guest

    OS, but I found that only 1200 MB of memory was allocated in the ohter handler.

    So I now use ESXi 3.5 to host 3 VMs, ESXi 3.5 host has 8 GB of memory, two of these VMs have the allocation of memory 1 800 MB and 4 GB.

    However, on ESXi console, I found that me, the 'use of memory of comments' are only 450MB and 778 MB only.

    It's really out of my expectation, it seems that the memory on the VMware product management is the same.

    Does anyone know how fix memory use such as ESXi comments will not control the dynamic memory allocation?

    In our case, it is not necessary to adjust the consumption of memory intelligently by ESXi from time to time.

    I have attached some screenshots for your reference to screen and hope that the screens are useful to explain the problem.

    Thank you for your kind attention,

    Raymond

    It is possble to use memory locking of operating system invited in a fixed allowance?

    Is called memory reserve.

    You can do this under settings of the computer virtual (tab "resources") or by using the list of resources.

  • How do I know if the hypervisor is installed on FlexFlash

    I have a UCS C240 Standalone client server which has a card SD of FlexFlash installed in Slot 1, but none in Slot 2. The FlexFlash controller displays the State of health as"RAID"degraded "because of course there is no other mirror card. The MMIC runs firmware later than version 1.5, which means that the controller is compatible with RAID I think reset the controller FlexFlash should clear the error. However, I would like to know if the hypervisor (ESXi) is installed on the FlexFlash or not as this would determine whether or not I can reset without failure.

    Where would I go to find out if the hypervisor is actually installed on the map of FlexFlash or normal storage in the LSI Raid Controller?

    See you soon,.

    Tom

    Tom,

    You are right, that the degraded RAID is due to the fact that the drive is unable to form RAID with a single SD card. The reset should clear. Discover the boot order and see what the server is configured to start from:

    The Flexflash controller may appear as a HV partition:

  • the hypervisor and its drive system

    Dear all,

    I would like to do a virtual server with two small VMs. (in time real, there will be two virtual server with a virtual computer, and the two of them will be the other backup system, so I have to plan for the worst case, when two virtual machines must run on the same hardware). It would be so complicated, because both vm-s are: a sql express 2012 on a win 7 pro Server (or server win 2012 depend on budget) and special software on a windows xp (or Windows 7). Software restaurant now running on a windows xp with dedicated hardware, so I measured a large number of parameters, including the use of the CPU, utilization of the disk, net use. As for the sql express, it will be a whole new thing, so I can't do action, I can only count the requirements of sellers, but I think that his charge will be relatively low (it's a small business restaurant reservation system database). I read a lot of books and articles, how to calculate the virtual processor, Rams, etc., but all these on the high-end systems. Disaster, two virtual machines will run the same machine, but also at the same time. Data grow is insignificant for the two VM. because of the budget we cannot FCoE and ISCSI as a system disk, so I can only use local disks. And this disk system is confused me.

    In my head, it should be like this for the best effective average budget: a raid1 on top of hardware in the server raid card and all the staff installed on this raid1 (the hypervisor itself and two virtual machines). I'm not sure the system and disk partitioning. Can the hypervisor and guests on the same partition (and drive at all)? Or should I make 3 separate for them? I would avoid using more than two disks, a raid1 with two disk might work like a charm.

    Any suggestion is welcome.

    Thank you very much

    CHR

    ESXi automatically partition the drive of installation/volume and create system as well as the partition (data store) VMFS partitions, so it's no problem at all. However, even with a small budget, you must make sure that the RAID controller takes in charge a battery/flash backed write cache option to operate in writeback mode. Without the write cache, RAID controllers will work in writing continuous mode, i.e. in a way slower than the writeback (> 10 x).

  • P2V question when the hypervisor is not accessible

    Hi all

    I just checked the VM converter to virtualize a Win2k8 server. My problem is that the physical Machine is not connected to the network where the hypervisor. So I can't create the virtual machine on the fly.

    Is there a solution to create the server files on an external drive connected to the server and take it with me to import the machine to the hypervisor?

    who is Ron

    You can convert runnning VM Workstation format to local storage, move them and then convert the Worstation ESX format. HTH

  • Could not load the hypervisor because of the FVO. OVF to VMX

    I am trying to load a version of the hypervisor of Websohere which is an ovf format but it doesn't work and I get this error message...

    " failed OVF specification or virtual hardware compliance audits compliance. "

    Click try again to relax the specification of the FVO and virtual hardware compliance audits and try the import again, or click Cancel to cancel the import. If you raise the import, you might not be able to use the virtual machine in VMware Player. »

    My understanding is that I needed to convert the ovf vmx!

    I tried using the ovf tool to convert in .vmx but that does not work also. I get the following error when you try to convert...

    "Error: could not open the descriptor of the FVO.

    If someone could shed would be great.

    Thank you

    Hope you have all the files needed to deploy an OVF.

    You must have. OVF. VMKD and. MF file to deploy a package of the FVO.

  • Tag or not to tag in the hypervisor

    In general, an ESX host is connected to a switch configured as a trunk port. The reason, of course, is that an ESX host has a cluster of virtual machines on different VLANS and therefore the hyspervisor tags executives... and you know the rest...

    In all these years that I've been configuring the switch ports that connect to the ESX host, I still have them configured as trunks.   In theory, however, the hypervisor is a NOT to label the images if, say, all virtual machines are an only 1 VLAN. Is this correct?  I think while the marking mode IS deployed, in which the physical switch makes all the marking and the hypervisor is configured with all virtual machines belong to a port group VLAN ID value 0. Then the physical switch port can be an access port. But in reality, has never seen that? If so, how often and when was the last time?

    As I said, I have never seen this.

    Thank you

    RSEngineer wrote:

    Rick, totally agree... one thing I am curious, however, is how many times IS mode IS / has BEEN used in fact...

    I saw him sometimes with management and vMotion share the same interface and both on the VLAN 1 (native/not identified) on the physical switches, but for access to virtual computer is not common of course.
