  If I remember well enough the Satellite 3000 features of a small reset button must be pressed with a pen. Check it please and if yes put the new battery inside, start the machine and immediately press the reset button and hold for about 15 or 20 seconds.

  For me, it looks like a keyboard failure.
  In this case, you need to replace the old keyboard with a new one.

Also check in the setup of the BIOS [F10] to see if there is a battery test.

  As far as I know the Satellite 3000-100 supports an Enhanced IDE Ultra DMA66/100 interface.
  Therefore, use this HARD drive interface compatible hard drives.

  The 20 GB HARD drive should be compatible due to the fact that this device was equipped with a 20 GB HARD drive too.

  I discovered that these drives may be supported:
  PA3100U 15 GB HDD-modular
  PA3101U modular HARD 30 GB disk

  Try simply google for this part numbers and you should get a few hits.

  Try to identify the first photo that always must download and does not.  Most of your pictures will be perfectly okay, but a bad point could hide the progression. A video or a photo in a format not supported.

  If light shows a certain color during loading or not depends on what phone you are using and what operating system is loaded on the phone. The article to which you linked says: «...» "MAY indicate that your device is plugged into a charger and the charge is complete." It does not say: «...» "Indicates... ».

  I'm running the same OS that you and I get no indication when my phone is fully charged other than what is on the screen.
