An existing product key of Windows 8 will be valid after a clean reinstall?

Hello world!

My friend was running a dual-boot Ubuntu / Windows laptop 8.1 with double RAID hard drives. Looks like a BIOS error is cause of a GRUB error and prevents the system from starting at all when you disable also the ability to boot from other devices than the RAID.

We want to do is wipe his RAID and re-install Windows 8 only (if we start on a floppy disk for installation at some point), so it can return to 8.1 via online update - my main question is if its Windows 8 original product key has been delivered through Microsoft DreamSpark, it will still be valid for a clean re-installation on this same machine or are they unique codes?

We are not in a situation where we can save his RAID so I need to know for sure before proceeding. Thank you in advance for your help!

That's fine - I'm not worried about the process as much as the ability to re-use the product key on the same machine for a new installation. Do you know if this would be possible?

Yes, you can reuse the same product key.

There is no such thing as a "max usage limit" (other than to be in use on a single computer at a time) for a Windows XP product key.

There is no limit to the number of times where you can reinstall and activate the same license of Windows XP on the same PC.  Is never a charge.  No more than a product key (as long as it is not an evaluation license) never expire.  If it's been more than 120 days you finally turned on this specific product key, you will probably be able to activate via the Internet without problem.  If it was less, you may need to do a five minute phone call.

Here are the facts relating to activation:

  • Can I re-use the product key of Windows 7 on my machine after downgrading?

Someone gave me a desktop computer with the original Windows 7 which has been downgraded to XP. I used it until the end of Windows XP support. My question is can I reuse the product key of Windows 7 on the machine and put Windows 7 on? Activation will fail and I would put Windows 7 for nothing?

It works perfectly, yes you can do it.  But to put Windows 7 on it, you will need to use either

    (A) the original Windows 7 OEM disc provided with this computer

    or

    (B) recovery partition integrated guidelines of the manufacturer to restore the original Windows 7 OS

    --

The reason is that the product key on the computer is linked to this kind of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer, like Dell or Acer).  If you cannot use any Windows 7 CD-ROM drive with this code. It must be the disk or installer that came with this code.

  • My product key for Windows 7 is NOT valid. -HELP! --

I've owned my computer provided WITH Windows 7 for 3 years now. I had a virus on my computer, and that he had removed some files windows making my computer almost impossible to perform. So I tried to reinstall windows 7.  I did what he asked and put the product key in and everything was fine. It was a few months ago, however. Now the same question came with another virus, and tried to reinstall windows 7, but only this time when I went to put the product key in, it says it is invalid. I'm now running on a Windows 7 30 day trial when I already bought and owned by the operating system for almost THREE YEARS. I don't know what to do. From now on, my only option is to buy Windows 8 because of its price, but I don't have the money to afford at the moment. So at least one month, my computer will be usable United Nations even if I have already paid and this OS for 3 years. Any help would be greatly appreciated, my trial is running short and I don't have time to waste.

  • Windows 7 will not activate after a clean install and several improvements to my computer.

I bought a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  I installed my old hardware running, but found Windows 7 either too many resources.  When there was enough money kicking around to upgrade my computer a few months later I did (new card mother cpu and ram).  Windows 7 would not start normally or in safe mode, my old installation of XP would not boot normally but would start in safe mode.  So I reinstalled Windows 7 with a clean install (reformatted my hard drive) and it works fine but now it won't turn on!  It says that I have to type in a different product key because I typed the product key cannot be used to activate Windows on my computer.

I understand the need to fight against piracy, but the thought that I can't upgrade my computer without having to buy another product key is ridiculous!  There are solutions to this problem?

Activate manually.  It is detect your previous installation and seeing this as an attempt to install the product on another computer.  It is a common phenomenon.

To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC and only installed on this PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate the operating system.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

If this does not work (these procedures are for Vista, but I guess they will work with Windows7), and then republish your questiion in Windows7 Forums:http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads where they can provide the procedure for this OS if it is different.

    Hello

Yes, you can reinstall vista with your product key on the new hard drive

Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • How to find my product key for Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer?

Anyone know how to find my product key for Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer...  I have several licenses and want to ID what license is on which computer.

I see the product ID, but can't seem to find the product 'key '.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  J

Here are four utilities, which can display your product keys if they are still there:
    Belarc Advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
(He did a good job of providing a wealth of information.)

    Also: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
    and: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
and RockXP: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4138.html which has additional features

To find out which product keys are used:

    Summary

If you have multiple Windows licenses and have installed but don't know which one is in use, use the following instructions to double check.

    Details

Apples of: Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

    User level: beginner to Expert

If you have multiple PCs in your home or business running different versions of Windows and would like to have on the same version, you can check that you do not use a product key that is already in use. For example, if you bought 3 copies of Windows 7 Professional, installed one, active, but later wanted to update another PC but can't remember which key was used, this trick can be very handy.

    Click Start, type: cmd

    Press enter on your keyboard

At the command prompt, type the following command:

    slmgr - dli

    Press enter on your keyboard

A dialogue window will appear on the screen. This will reveal the partial product key which gives an idea of the product key that is in use. Compare with product keys that you have and it will confirm copy of which is in use. When we're done, click OK and close the command prompt window.

For users of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click on command prompt

Alternative means to quickly launch the command prompt quickly on all versions of Windows:

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: CMD

    Press enter on your keyboard

  • Product key for Windows 10 is not authentic

    * Original title: windows 7 ultimate

I have a product key and the version is authentic. This os has worked flawlessly until the recent updates have been installed. Now I'm said that it is not genuine and will not authenticate. Is it just chose him the method of forcing people to use windows 10?

    Thomas,

It is not a method to force you to 10 Windows.  But to say that is rather requires data "MGA results."

Download & run the MGA tool.  When the results appear, click on the continue button & it turns into a key copy after a short break.  Click copy [ignore the error message that is displayed].  Paste the results directly in Notepad or another & save them to ensure that you can not lose the information.

    • Then go back on this forum & click change under your question
    • Change the title of the question - add no real message, MGA posted results to get your issue noticed by the people with the skills to diagnose results
    • Then paste the results in your question
    • Change the question to download, install & activate category using the drop-down lists under the box of your issue description [text]

Add a brief history of the computer & operating system.  To avoid too much back & episodic, you must include this information in your question:

    1. The brand and model of the computer
    2. When & where you bought: new & directly from the computer manufacturer, new & from a manufacturer of small scale computer, pre-owned, refurbished,...
    3. What OS was already preinstalled when you bought it
    4. What further facilities of the BONE [replacements & upgrades] have you done since
    5. Where you bought your OS [replacements & updates] facilities
    6. What type of license [OEM / System Builder or retail] you believe that the pre-installed OS & the following facilities OS [replacements & updates]
    7. What, if any, actions that you have taken to activate in the past to achieve or restore activation
    8. What [s] certificate of authenticity ['COA'] you have on the computer itself, or even provided with the following facilities [replacements & upgrades] OS - COA is the label with the product key of Windows 7 on it but do not reveal the product key itself online [the excerpt shown in the MGA results you post is correct] Note that many laptops have the certificate of authenticity within the battery compartment.
    9. What editions of Windows 7 {Starter, Home Premium, professional, full edition} are indicated on the certificate of authenticity [s].
    10. Windows 7 edition identified in the Control Panel, [view by - small icons, if necessary], System
    11. What activation status is indicated in the lower part of the Control Panel, [view by - small icons, if necessary], System
    12. What recent changes have been made to the computer [replacement HDD, motherboard,...]
    13. What indication do you have that your Windows is not genuine?
    14. You have already done to try to solve the current problem
    • Please note that the people who will try to help you maybe in a different time zone.  Display of all the information in your original question can avoid delays based on the current time zone [someone asked what your model of computer during their day, you don't see the question until the next day, they do not see your response until their next day - 3 days might therefore have passed without any progress].
    • Display of all the information in your original question also establishes a single point of reference so that people who are trying to help you can get all the information they need in one place.  It also helps to avoid delays.

    Hello Butterflylove1983,

Give you specific help, to a more detailed description of the problem and the question you have.

Some questions that you can answer to help out are:

    1. what version of Windows 7 are you running?
2 what is an OEM version that came with your computer, or a retail version that you bought?  (or a beta version)
    3. is your enabled copy?
    4. you are trying to locate the key that you used to activate Windows 7? Or you try to get a key, so you can activate Windows 7?

If you have already activated and used a key, you can download a product such as Belarc Advisor and run it to extract the key.  However, if you have installed Windows 7 and do not use a key, you will need to purchase a license in order to activate it.  This can be done through computer vendors such as newegg.com or amazon.com, or even by the Web sites online.

If you are looking for a 'free' or 'key to crack', then you come to the wrong place to ask.  Since it is a Microsoft forum, noone in their right mind will tell you where to look for pirated keys or ways around the keys.

Hope that this help give you to a more detailed explanation of your problem and have a nice day :)
    Patrick.

  • Is my Windows my product key license? Also, if I want to download the iso of Windows 7 yes I need to buy a license/product key of Windows 7?

Is my Windows my product key license? Also, if I want to download the iso of Windows 7 yes I need to buy a license/product key of Windows 7? Or my Windows 10 will work?

Your license is the product key.

You don't need to buy a license if you already have a product key.

Step 1: Download a copy of Windows 7:

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

Make sure you scroll down and read the section:

What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?
