Anomaly in the CMYK conversion

I have a file that contains a task - 404c.  When I converted that spot to CMYK (Edit/convert to CMYK), the spot is converted to 0, 8, 22, 56.

A customer sent me a file.  It contains a task - 404c. When I convert his spot to CMYK in his document (Edit/convert to CMYK), the spot is converted into 51.2/48.73/56.54/17.79.

The two files being viewed in CS5 (15.1.0), same program, same computer, different tabs.

When I copy and paste my block of 404c in his file and convert it, it converts to the 51.2/48.73/56.54/17.79.  Conversely, when I copy his block of 404c in my document, it converts to 0, 8, 22, 56.

My question: where is hiding the conversion variable? What menu/preference etc. is the difference between the two documents?

Thank you for your patience and your willingness to help me.

In both files, check the option of spot color in the swatches Panel menu

  • HTML in PDF format ready to print with the CMYK color conversion

How can I convert a webpage (html) as a PDF ready to print, including a RGB to CMYK conversion?

I use a free trial of Acrobat DC. What I tried, is to use the browser button to convert HTML to PDF. I then open the document and go to the menu "Print Production. I expected to find the option "Convert colors", but he's not here. Help documentation indicates that this option is available only if you export your PDF file to a device "high-end". What is a high-end device? I use my laptop.

    (1) under the Production of printing tools, in the right pane, you will find the convert colors tool. That's what you're looking for. Its availability has nothing to do with what type of device you send the PDF file.

    (2) that said, converting the PDF to CMYK color space is not necessarily required to print. You certainly can print an RGB and/or the PDF to grayscale for a local or network PostScript laser printer, for example. What makes you think that you absolutely need CMYK for printing any other type? Each RIP/DFE these days can directly manipulate the RGB content.

  • The CMYK values for the PMS colors in file are spread in final PDF.

Customer provides us with a photoshop PDF, in which CMYK for a PMS color values are spread (in the case of PMS 633). Client creates files in indesign, save to PDF and then open the PDF Id file in photoshop and re - save as a photoshop PDF.

Somehow, the color values are getting biased; 96 6/10/29/77.64/27.3/17.41/0, obviously enough to change the appearance of the color and the client refuses the job.

    Any suggestions?

And Yes, I have noted the measures they take are not recommended, but I have no reason as to why.

Values of PMS in InDesign are not actually stored as LAB, CMYK values. If the creation of PDF from InDesign and forcing in the process and all tasks the process CMYK, then you get the CMYK values depend on the color space designated for PDF output. Then you have a similar question rasterize PDF file in Photoshop. The CMYK values may change depending on the involved color spaces.

In both cases, as described in Bob, this is a strongly discouraged workflow. Frankly, you perform additional measures that I guaranteed to degrade the quality and are a source of multiple, probably unexpected CMYK color conversions => C am 'Y' K'.   Ugghh!

And Yes, we highly recommend the PDF/X-4 without any conversion of color directly exported from InDesign.

And finally, to use spot colors for print streams where it didn't intend to use additional pigments is just looking for trouble. You can use the definitions of Pantone colors, but at least use the Pantone Process definitions, not spot colors in color!

  • Choice of profiles for RGB forced to CMYK conversion

When a mixed RGB/CMYK PDF is opened in Illustrator CS6, Illustrator requires a conversion to a color space or another. See this screenshot: http://imgur.com/sK8iEdn

I guess this is a limitation of the Illustrator and there is no way to keep the two color spaces. Under this assumption, is it possible to choose the profiles used for the conversion of RGB to CMYK? Illustrator is possible to use the RGB and CMYK profiles defined in its color settings to do this conversion?

I did some experiments with Illustrator CS6 and target RGB of MacBeth and checked my results with Photoshop CS6. I discovered that (especially) illustrator doing what he should do, within an error of 1% (probably rounded) on the output CMYK values. Here is a summary, in case anyone else needs this info:

Assuming that the elements of the source file are all not marked, when a mixed RGB/CMYK PDF is open in CMYK mode and Illustrator is

chosen, Illustrator uses the profiles and defined in rendering mode

Color settings to make conversions from RGB to CMYK color. Thus, we

have control over the profiles used for this conversion.

If the RGB elements in the PDF file have embedded ICC profiles,

Illustrator uses the ICC profile embedded instead of the RGB profile

defined in the color settings. That happens, however, if the PDF file

also includes the correct intention to output CMYK profile.

If the PDF file does not contain an output CMYK mode, Illustrator will fall

back on the color settings RGB RGB-> CMYK conversion profile. I think that it

would be more correct for Illustrator use the embedded profile of RGB and

the CMYK profile defined in the color settings, but this is not how it seems to work.

If the PDF file contains incorrect output CMYK mode, Illustrator will be

ignore the color settings and follow the embedded profiles, RGB and CMYK

for the conversion, as can be expected.

  • CMYK CMYK conversion Dmax caveat

Has detected an error in the way that Photoshop converts a CMYK profile for another CMYK profile...

During the conversion of RGB or CMYK LAB, photoshop will follow the parameters Dmax of the CMYK profile that you convert.  However, if you convert from a file of CMYK with a high Dmax to another with a low Dmax CMYK profile, your new file will NOT lower Dmax.

For example, if I have a file of CMYK with a Dmax 340 convert a CMYK with a Dmax 300 profile, colors are moving but the new file will have a Dmax of 340, NOT 300.

The only solution for this is to convert to CMYK in the LABORATORY, then return to your new CMYK profile.  Photoshop will use the correct settings of Dmax.

I know that you should not convert from CMYK to CMYK, etc.  But sometimes it is not avoidable for various reasons of workflow.  And I understand why photoshop is unable to convert the new Dmax when CMYK CMYK, you go.  But I think that it is a critical question color that photoshop should you warn that to get a good Dmax, you can't go from CMYK to CMYK.

It seems that anyone who works with CMYK should be extremely concerned Dmax, so for Photoshop to do not warn you of this problem is to invite serious problems of color which cannot be intercepted, until you go support on... which is a very stressful time to make these discoveries.

    Thank you!!!

Again, if you do a conversion, the dmax has to CHANGE to match the destination profile.

If you assign the new profile, then the color will change, but the values (and dmax) will remain the same.

If you converted in the new profile, to any other profile, then the dmax would according to the destination profile - there no choice, because there is no value in the destination profile who do not have the dmax of the destination profile.

Again, it really sounds like you are not making CMYK-> CMYK conversion, but just naming the destination profile (and do not change the values).

  • Levels of gray to CMYK conversion issue?

Hi, I have a print job that is currently using a tiff in grayscale for black printing.

My problem is that I need to add a spot color. When I convert tiff CMYK it splits values among all 4 channels.

Does anyone know how convert a grayscale in CMYK tiff file, but keep the black of the gray-scale right on the K channel.

Or I can flatten the CMYK channels and get them on the K only.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated

    Antony

I'm not sure that's what you're after, but consider this:

Choose Edition > color settings > CMYK > Custom > Black generation > maximum

When you change the Mode of the b & w tiff CMYK image will deliver in K

Return to your normal configuration when the project is complete, so that future work will not be affected.

You are mixing color profiles a-place, or document workspace does not match the destination to export space is incompatible.

  • Bug: Cannot create the CMYK/RGB color chart

Hi there, I have suddenly developed this weird bug in InDesign CS4. Whenever I try to edit a new shade, I get this:

    InDesignBug.jpg

You will notice it says, CMYK process... but I can't edit anything except a Pantone. I tried everything: switching back and forth through different Types of colors and patterns. I tried different files. I restarted my computer. Nothing helps, I suddenly can no longer change the CMYK (or RGB) values of any color, including.

If you look closely at the screenshot I posted, you can see the "Magenta" M and symbols for CMYK % on the right side. Unfortunately I can't change them in any way, only the box that says "Pantone". It is indeed very annoying... someone has any ideas of how I can solve this problem?

    My system is:

First thing to do is to see it: replace your preferences

  • Do not change the CMYK values

    So here is the problem,

I have a document in Illustrator CS5 with a black background and there is a form of feathers in this document with the same color recipe. When you print you can see the object to feathers and it is clearly a different shade of black, although levels CMYK are the same. So I tried to change the levels of all blacks to just K = 100, and when I deselect, then reselect the object they just go back to the previous CMYK values. I tried several times to change the CMYK values with several black recipes by typing in the color selector box, but he always comes back to the original recipe. It will change if I red or something completely different, but not if it's still a recipe for black. Is there something that I am missing?

Why can't I change my recipe for black?

Why my document print two different shades of black when it's the same CMYK values?

Should I have a corrupted file? Or is it a setting I don't know who is making this happen?

If you copy it to a new file, CMYK (!), still doing it?

Even if you can not post a screenshot, you could post screenshots of the appearance palette or the palette of layers, for example, so that we can not see the logo itself, but its structure

  • determine the CMYK codes

Hi all. I have a few wall boards that have a collection of rectangles, colored on them (images on my site at donaldcherry.com/silentway). I scanned these images on my Mac, and now I would like to determine the CMYK codes for each colored rectangle. I opened the image in Photoshop, but when I move the cursor over the rectangle and watch the CMYK codes in the small pier at the coast to the right, I see codes change much even within the same colored rectangle. What can I do to get an accurate reading? I have the suite CS3. Illustrator is a better choice? Thanks in advance.

Donald there are two points to make.

1 first, purely technical point - if you choose your eyedropper tool that you see in the options bar, there is a setting for "Sample size" - you do not use the sample Point, you want something higher which is the average of the values for your perusal. (maybe 11 x 11)

2-NOW - that said that, like Buko is trying to say there is virtually no point making a sweep of poor quality and sampling values anyway. These values are more or less arbitrary, because scanners read the reflected light, and the light is very difficult to measure accurately in this way. You are more likely to have an accurate reflection of the value if you use a Pantone swatch book.

If you do not have access to a Pantone book, guess will be as accurate as the method of scanning. If you have calibrated your monitor you might as well just correspond to the values visually on there. Accurate readings of CMYK are really useless because

1 different printers and printing methods will always print the completely different values in any case

2 attempts to color management to produce profiles of specific printer and you can convert these,- but it's a highly irregular process, requiring profiling scanner, printer, printing of stock and monitor

  • The CMYK values are different from PhotoShop

Why are the CMYK values for a color given RGB differs in kuler to those generated by PhotoShop? What color profiles Kuler is SEO?

Note: I use the North America General Purpose 2 default settings in PhotoShop CS3, which refers to sRGB IEC61966 - 2.1 and U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2.

    example: r19 g61 b141 = c87 m57 y0 k45 in kuler and c100 m89 y13 k1 in PhotoShop.

HI, I see if this discussion on Kuler and color management answers your question.

  • How can I transfer all the messages/conversations from my iphone to messages.app on my mac?

    Hi people,

    Maybe someone can help me:

How can I transfer the entire contents of my messages app on my iphone to the messages on my mac app?

the problem is, when I create in the messages app a new account with my appl ID (for example on a new mac) I also use with my iphone, so everything worked very well for the starting point of creation.

BUT... some older posts, I have on my iphone will appear in the new messages.app - account on my mac.

I have thousands of old messages and conversations, I now can only see on my phone or with some more or less useful third party apps. those who cannot vonert messages to a PDF file or som other format useful semi > but no one can transfer it in the messages app.

    • I learned that apple does not save my imessages for more than 72hours (which makes me happy because of the confidentiality of the data), so I can't take via imessages-servers.
    • I also learned that it is possible to transfer data from the library files to a previous account. but unfortunately, I've just accidentally deleted those files, so this solution won't help:
      • I had serious problems to enable the transfer of SMS on a second mac (I guess I failed it in between), I went in the ususal trial & error-process and disabled the account of messages on the mac.
      • After that, I deleted all caches using onyx. then I restarted the iphone and the macbook and restarted the messages app.
      • the app behave like the 'never used before': I entered my apple, app ID remind my cell phone number and all other settings from the old account, but THE MESSAGES WERE GONE alle.
      • I don't know I deleted the using onyx. but there should be a way to win back them?

    the system configuration:

    • Start "2011-17 - macbook pro with latest el capitan (10.11.6)"
    • iPhone 6 with latest iOS (9.3.5)

PLEASE Please HELP me - even if I use third-party software...

    Hello

    Can't do.

iMessages are pushed by the iMessages servers to devices recorded at this time there.

They are not held on servers and are deleted as soon as receiving devices accept.

(that is, it is not like electronic mail that can be left on the server (POP) or rest on the (IMAP) server to be retried by other devices that can identify you later).

How the files/iMessages are stored on the iPhone and the way the Mac stores are not the same.

It is possible to have the iPhone one store backup via iTunes on Mac.

From there on, it is possible to use third party applications to read (check out them and make them as text files), but they cannot be forced into Messages.

By copying and pasting entire conversations from one chat to another it's the Mac send s just like a long piece of text with few (not in use) formatting.

Can also have problems with actually duplicate the whole file with space on the iPhone in the first place.

  • IMAQdx with 10, 12, 14-bit and the display Conversion

    Hello

I ran into a problem when you use a 12-bit with IMAQdx firewire camera.

When you take a 12-bit image in an IMAQ I16 display Conversion method not working anymore. Vision sometimes gets unstable one can freeze my LabView. (Labview8.6, Dev.8.6.4 of Vision).

In the attached screenshot, you can see for example that it is bringing dynamic scaling of 90%.

Maybe is a problem with the camera data format? Or 12 bit images are fixed scaled?

I have a fix using 16-bit only a little changing.

    Chris

    Hi, zabotage,

His "documented bug" that has been discussed here somwhere.

Thus, mapping works with 16-bit images only! Its documented. Even you have 16-bit type, but bit depth that lies inside IMAQdx is not 16-bit.

Also use the depth of Bit Image IMAQ with 16 bits before function mapping (or with the depth of bit = 0, I do not remember) and everything will be OK.

    Andrey.
