Levels of gray to CMYK conversion issue?

Hi, I have a print job that is currently using a tiff in grayscale for black printing.

My problem is that I need to add a spot color. When I convert tiff CMYK it splits values among all 4 channels.

Does anyone know how convert a grayscale in CMYK tiff file, but keep the black of the gray-scale right on the K channel.

Or I can flatten the CMYK channels and get them on the K only.

Any suggestion would be appreciated

Antony

I'm not sure that's what you're after, but consider this:

Choose Edition > color settings > CMYK > Custom > Black generation > maximum

When you change the Mode of the b & w tiff CMYK image will deliver in K

Return to your normal configuration when the project is complete, so that future work will not be affected.

  • Choice of profiles for RGB forced to CMYK conversion

When a mixed RGB/CMYK PDF is opened in Illustrator CS6, Illustrator requires a conversion to a color space or another. See this screenshot: http://imgur.com/sK8iEdn

I guess this is a limitation of the Illustrator and there is no way to keep the two color spaces. Under this assumption, is it possible to choose the profiles used for the conversion of RGB to CMYK? Illustrator is possible to use the RGB and CMYK profiles defined in its color settings to do this conversion?

I did some experiments with Illustrator CS6 and target RGB of MacBeth and checked my results with Photoshop CS6. I discovered that (especially) illustrator doing what he should do, within an error of 1% (probably rounded) on the output CMYK values. Here is a summary, in case anyone else needs this info:

Assuming that the elements of the source file are all not marked, when a mixed RGB/CMYK PDF is open in CMYK mode and Illustrator is

chosen, Illustrator uses the profiles and defined in rendering mode

Color settings to make conversions from RGB to CMYK color. Thus, we

have control over the profiles used for this conversion.

If the RGB elements in the PDF file have embedded ICC profiles,

Illustrator uses the ICC profile embedded instead of the RGB profile

defined in the color settings. That happens, however, if the PDF file

also includes the correct intention to output CMYK profile.

If the PDF file does not contain an output CMYK mode, Illustrator will fall

back on the color settings RGB RGB-> CMYK conversion profile. I think that it

would be more correct for Illustrator use the embedded profile of RGB and

the CMYK profile defined in the color settings, but this is not how it seems to work.

If the PDF file contains incorrect output CMYK mode, Illustrator will be

ignore the color settings and follow the embedded profiles, RGB and CMYK

for the conversion, as can be expected.

  • CMYK CMYK conversion Dmax caveat

Has detected an error in the way that Photoshop converts a CMYK profile for another CMYK profile...

During the conversion of RGB or CMYK LAB, photoshop will follow the parameters Dmax of the CMYK profile that you convert.  However, if you convert from a file of CMYK with a high Dmax to another with a low Dmax CMYK profile, your new file will NOT lower Dmax.

For example, if I have a file of CMYK with a Dmax 340 convert a CMYK with a Dmax 300 profile, colors are moving but the new file will have a Dmax of 340, NOT 300.

The only solution for this is to convert to CMYK in the LABORATORY, then return to your new CMYK profile.  Photoshop will use the correct settings of Dmax.

I know that you should not convert from CMYK to CMYK, etc.  But sometimes it is not avoidable for various reasons of workflow.  And I understand why photoshop is unable to convert the new Dmax when CMYK CMYK, you go.  But I think that it is a critical question color that photoshop should you warn that to get a good Dmax, you can't go from CMYK to CMYK.

It seems that anyone who works with CMYK should be extremely concerned Dmax, so for Photoshop to do not warn you of this problem is to invite serious problems of color which cannot be intercepted, until you go support on... which is a very stressful time to make these discoveries.

    Thank you!!!

Again, if you do a conversion, the dmax has to CHANGE to match the destination profile.

If you assign the new profile, then the color will change, but the values (and dmax) will remain the same.

If you converted in the new profile, to any other profile, then the dmax would according to the destination profile - there no choice, because there is no value in the destination profile who do not have the dmax of the destination profile.

Again, it really sounds like you are not making CMYK-> CMYK conversion, but just naming the destination profile (and do not change the values).

  • Anomaly in the CMYK conversion

I have a file that contains a task - 404c.  When I converted that spot to CMYK (Edit/convert to CMYK), the spot is converted to 0, 8, 22, 56.

A customer sent me a file.  It contains a task - 404c. When I convert his spot to CMYK in his document (Edit/convert to CMYK), the spot is converted into 51.2/48.73/56.54/17.79.

The two files being viewed in CS5 (15.1.0), same program, same computer, different tabs.

When I copy and paste my block of 404c in his file and convert it, it converts to the 51.2/48.73/56.54/17.79.  Conversely, when I copy his block of 404c in my document, it converts to 0, 8, 22, 56.

My question: where is hiding the conversion variable? What menu/preference etc. is the difference between the two documents?

Thank you for your patience and your willingness to help me.

In both files, check the option of spot color in the swatches Panel menu

  • Pptx to PDF conversion issues - images disappear or showing only in pieces

Recently, I have my pptx to PDF files conversion problems.  I'm on Windows 7, Powerpoint 2007 and have tired both Acrobat 10.1.2 than Acrobat 9.5.

When I choose Save PDF of PowerPoint, it publishes, BUT many of these images (created with powerpoint with shapes and clip art) disappear from the PDF file.  Some of my pptx files have been converted without problem (using the combination of pptx & Acrobat 10.1.2) - However, if I come back in a do even a simple change (even to the text) it will NOT convert to PDF with precision - once more images will be missed and I get an error message.

I tried to fix my Acrobat - which did not change the results. I also tried to go to an earlier version of Acrobat reader, and that no longer works.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat, restarted my computer - etc.

I'm at a bit of loss - since I have not had problems in the past?  This question seems recent - in the last two months.

Any ideas where I could watch or what else I could try?

Thank you very much for your ideas!

    HI Bill,

I work with Acrobat - not a 3rd party.  Maybe I'm missing something but my Word and Powerpoint 2007 do NOT have the option of printing to the Adobe PDF printer - it is NOT listed or available (I think from my research that Microsoft has more than a provision to issue with Adobe?).  The ONLY way I can find to create a PDF file (by Adobe) of Word and Powerpoint 2007 is the Save as function.  The MS Plugin was for the function "save under"-I have that already have in place.

This problem is recent... I have created a complete PDF of the document photographed above there are a few iterations.  The only changes that I made to the document were changes in texts... I then went to save in PDF format and this time... you see the result... pieces of missing images.  I wonder if there is a bug or something is the most recent update of Adobe Reader 10.1.2?  Or if there is somewhere else I should be looking to try to resolve the problem.

Thank you very much for your ideas!

  • The color space Conversion issues

When I edit a photo in Lightroom and then the export as jpeg, I get some major color shifts. If I convert to sRGB for web use, a red dress becomes a much brighter red. Adobe RGB conversion gives a red cooler than sRGB but still brighter than the red in Lightroom. The tone of skin and other similar colors are also affected. At first I thought it was due to my external viewer (IrfanView); but when the results were the same in FastStone, I came to the realization, that have to do with conversions out of Lightroom. It is a major issue for me because if I produce a jpeg for a client or on the web, I can't rely entirely on what I see in Lightroom as a representative of the final product. Even a ProPhoto RGB conversion does not exactly match the image of Lighroom, although it is the closest. Is there a solution to this problem?

I have a Photosmart C4280 printer. I want to make thrifty use of my ink cartridges when printing documents (as opposed to photos). I generally use the quick project and grayscale for documents option. Can I use ink less or more if I used the quick project with the option of black ink?

More economical printing would quickly the project and black ink only.  Grayscale setting uses the color cartridge to print in grayscale, because it offers better quality.  The quality is better with shades of gray, but it uses more ink.

  • . PST to PDF conversion issues

I'm having a serious problem to convert .pdf .pst files

I'm able to correctly convert the .pst file, but the number of converted items is no where near the number of emails!

    For example:

I need to convert a .pst file, so I add it in a new folder in my Inbox.  This file shows it as having around 1250 points inside.

I then right click on the folder and choose export to a .pdf fill.

After choosing the location to create the PDF, I show the popup window "Create Adobe PDF".

This window shows only about 630 points to convert.

    Whats with miss match?

Without knowing this I can't say with confidence HR that the pdf file contains all the emails of the .pst file.

    Help, please!

    Thank you!

The problem is not. PST files, but rather a known bug in Acrobat for conversion of electronic messages in PDF format by which a certain process HTMLtoPDF has a memory leak and simply stop the conversion to PDF after execution of the address space. I'll try to get the development team to take the mothballs bug and fix it.

Hi, my printing says a RGB file I sent him, and he needs to CMYK for printing.

    (1) how can I know that the original file is RGB color mode?

    (2) how to convert file have RGB CMYK AI file?

    Thank you very much!!!

    lhcheng,

    (1) file > Document Color Mode.

    (2) tick CMYK instead of RGB.

You should be aware that the colors RGB and CMYK are fundamentally different, so more likely, you will need to create at least a few colors again, and you have to accept some inevitable changes.

Many RGB colors will be changed to CMYK rather muddy and messy, as you can see in the color palette when you select CMYK.

And a lot of bright colors will become less.

There are two problems with your catalog that are probably confused the conversion.

    1. your photos are stored in the catalog folder P:\Photo.

    2. you try to place the PSE 8 catalog converted into a subfolder of the PSE 6 catalog file:

    P:/PHOTO to P:/PHOTO / PHOTO copy P:/PHOTO

To work around this problem, first move the files to the catalog of p: back to a folder on your C: drive, such as described in step 4 of the FAQ:

    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-FAQ.htm#_Problems_converting_cat alogs

Then, when you call the file > catalog > convert in PSE 8, before clicking on convert, select catalogs accessible by all users, and then click on convert.  This will place the catalog converted on your C drive, not in the P: subfolder.

  • Equium A200-1V0 using XP - recent conversion issues.

    * Hi, *.

    * I recently inherited my laptop the girls, he had vista installed on it. I'm not a big fan so decided to install xp. I found a great guide on the forum, see below, (the topic is now locked) *.

    The original guide:

+ How to install XP Home on the following Vista laptop. 05/01/08 +.
    + PSAF5E + Toshiba Equium A200-1V0

    + Introduction
+ Here are the measures taken by us to remove our Toshiba laptop Vista and replace it with XP Home. There may be inconsistencies in our methods and we cannot have all the correct drivers installed, but everything seems to work OK for us. +
+ Our laptop now runs much faster, opens and closes more quickly and is more stable. +

+ This isn't a 5 minute operation. It should not be attempted by anyone with only a knowledge of passage of computers because it is very easy to screw things. The shop you bought your PC against them will load a lot to fix things and they will probably insist reinstall Vista! +
+ Be prepared that this would also probably negate your warranty. +

+ Luckily, I have a 2nd PC under XP, which allows me to access the web. This is very useful because it means that when your Vista machine is "broken" you can always find help and download the driver files. I also used my 2nd PC to create the XP installation updated the CD discussed later. +
+ You must have access to the web via a PC or another to get the necessary drivers. +

    + Method +.
+ First, even if you have Vista on your laptop, download and run a program of interrogation as "Belarc advisor" that lists all the drivers and software installed on your laptop. Print it out for future reference. It will be useful later when searching on the web for all drivers that may require updating. +
+ Now, make sure that you noted on all the necessary settings for your Internet connection. +
+ Also, back up the files that you may have placed on the hard drive you will lose the lot, including emails and the address books and web bookmarks etc. +

+ Unfortunately, the Toshiba disk that comes with this laptop does not appear to have all the required drivers with it. Instead, I think it relies on Vista keeping copy on your hard drive. It's not very bright that when the disk fails, you have lost everything! +
+ This means to go on the web and the search of all the required drivers run the XP successfully. +
+ Some we have found, for example the wireless network adapter, however this was not a problem because once we had installed XP and connected to the Internet through an Ethernet cable to our router, we were able to run 'Update Driver' for each missing item. +
+ Go to "Device Manager" via "Control Panel" then "System" and then "hardware". Then look for any yellow question mark for all the problems. Right-click and run 'Update Driver' for the Hardware Update Wizard and allow the PC to search the web "this time only. +
+ The ones we made in this way were: wireless adapter, Audio adapter. +

+ Unfortunately an original CD of XP SP2 does not contain the required drivers for this laptop. Therefore, when you start the CD it will be, after a few minutes of installation of files, say you have a hardware problem, there is no hard drive. +
+ To remedy this, you will need to download the right drivers Intel ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller. I could not find on the website of Intel, but on the contrary searched on Google for him. and he got to: http://www.alphadownloads.com/downloads/download-hp-intel-sata-ahci-controller-driver-ver--d-3064.html+

+ Create the XP drivers disk +.
+ Add SATA drivers for a copy of your XP install CD using a program such as NLite. +
+ You have enough spare memory hard drive take a copy of your XP (about 700 MB) installation CD. +
+ Launch the program "sp37005.exe" and it will install on your hard drive. Do not install to a floppy disk. +
    + Download "NLite" of: http://www.nliteos.com/download.html+
+ When you run NLite it will probably say that you need to install ".net Framework", if so, quit NLite and go find the program. It is a Microsoft program that you can find by performing a Google search for the corresponding page on the Microsoft Web site. +
+ Now place your drive to install XP in your CD drive, if it autoruns, leave him. +
+ Run Nlite and follow the instructions on the screen. +
+ The program will ask where is your XP disk then it will ask you where you want to save the copy. +
+ On the screen "Task Selection", select "Drivers" and "Bootable ISO". Press "next". +
+ Select "Insert" and then "Folder pilot several" and now go and find your downloaded files of the SATA driver. Now, select 'All' and ' OK. The program will list the available SATA drivers. Select only the two that mention "ICH8M. Now press "next". The display will show the selected drivers. Press 'Next' and then 'Yes' to the prompt and then on "next" when done.
+ You are presented with the "Bootable ISO" screen. +
+ Put it a new inflammable CD in your CD burner, wait for it to be recognized and out any window that might appear to allow you to install files.
+ Now in Nlite, under "Mode", select "Direct Burn" +.
+ Under the 'Label' enter something like "XP for Toshiba Satellite A200" to identify the drive. +
+ Advanced settings to leave alone and now add the other required drivers by clicking on explore and copy them to the root directory to the temporary directory on your hard drive XP. It might be better to create a "Drivers" folder in the root directory to make them easy to find later. +
+ Now, click on the "Burn" button Now follow the remaining instructions to complete. +
+ You have now created an XP installation disc that contains your SATA drivers. +
+ - As you can tell, it of sound altogether, but avoids having to buy a USB floppy drive and it provides a neat solution. +

    + Hasta La Vista! +
+ Now you are ready to start the cleaning process, if you are brave enough to continue... +.

+ First, re-boot your laptop and the all start-up press F12 to change the boot order so that the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM is first. You can also use F2 and then change the Boot order from there. +

+ Now, insert your new XP installation disc in the DVD/CD drive and re-boot the PC, select boot from CD when you are prompted. +

+ The XP CD will now start copying the files and possibly display an options screen.
+ Select this option to install Windows. +
+ And then remove the hard drive C: partition (with Vista on) +.
+ Delete the partition used by Vista also F. +.
+ You will have to follow a lot of warning messages to delete the partitions. +
+ Now follow the instructions to create an NTFS partition on the C drive. +.
+ Now install XP by following the instructions. +

+ Don't worry that the graphics are a bit large as once Windows has finished installing, you can run the graphics driver you copied on the the XP CD to correct this. +

+ Run three driver files: +.
    + win2k_xp14311.exe Intel graphics driver.
    + INFINST_AUTOL.exe Intel chipset software installation utility ' +.
    + Marvell Yukon Ethernet Driver Setup.exe +.

+ Your graphics card must now improve and you should now be able to connect to the web (after the execution of the web Setup Wizard). But do not do this until you have installed your anti-virus software and firewall. +

+ Now go to "Device Manager" by "Control Panel" then "System" and then "hardware". Then look for any yellow question mark for all the problems. Right-click and run 'Update Driver' for the Hardware Update Wizard and allow the PC to search the web "this time only. +

+ If all goes well, everything should work OK now. +

+ Now go and have a drink to celebrate! +

    * After completing the installation, I found that I had no work wlan driver on my laptop. They are here (RTL8187B_WLAN_Adaptor), but with a big yellow question mark. I tried reinstalling them but it made no difference. I don't know why they don't will be will not installed properly.*

When he had finished I checked the drive and it was empty he had no files on it at all. I tried several types/brands but the results (or lack of) is the same. The drive reads the discs will not drive write. Any ideas? *

Thanks for reading this and I would appreciate any help/advice you may have.

    See you soon,.

    Hello

This means that everything is working properly without WLAN connection and burning the discs?

Well, are you sure that your laptop is equipped with RTL8187B WLAN card? Therefore, you can check the vendor and device ID in Device Manager.
But for all the portable Toshiba, you can download the driver WLAN here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/

In addition, it would be interesting to know which drive you exactly used for the engraving process. I only use high-quality Verbatim and TDK media. I don t use Ashampoo or Nero, I use CD Burner XP because it the freeware tool and I can do anything I want with this program.

    Check it!
