Answer a few question I need before buying a new hard drive.

I am looking for a 320 GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0 Gb/s, but I need to know if the SL500 can handle this, or if its interface can manage only 1.5 Gb/s, etc..

I have also heard some HARD drives are not compatible with Lenovo BIOS, is it true? And if so, where can I find a list or something like that to help me choice the right kind.

Oh and a side note, I noticed that the thermal grease is marked as a FRU, when processors are marked as CRU... are we expected to burn are processors?  Can I bring my notebook in to get the compond to replaced every time? Each maybe 6 months? It should be charged?

My sl300 has the seagate 5400,4 Go 160, which corresponds to the reader that lenovo equip and supports 3.0 GB/s.  I'm very happy with it.  It's quiet, and faster than I expected.

sudo hdparm - tT/dev/sda

/ dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 3174 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1588,56 MB / s
Calendar of the disc in the buffer reads: 178 MB to 3,03 seconds = 58.76 MB / sec

  • If I do not support until my MBP before installing a new hard drive...

    Very quick question:

If I don't support my hard drive before installing a new hard drive, SSD, the MBP (early 2011) "know" download all the OS X software appropriate and that sort of thing? I guess my question is: is the part of the hard drive of the same hard drive recovery? Or on a separate physical disk.

I don't have a time machine, and it would probably be easier to start from scratch.

    Thank you!

If your computer comes with 10.6.8 or earlier and did not have its updated firmware updated to use Internet Apple system recovery, it is only on the internal drive. Otherwise, separate recovery methods are in the firmware and the drive internal.

    Hello

Note: If you have exceeded the number of times to activate the product, then you would not be able to activate, you may need to contact the manufacturer to perform a factory restore.

  • Upgrade to Windows 8, but I need to install a new hard drive first

    Hello

I'll be upgrading my laptop's current (under Windows 7 Pro) to Windows 8 Pro for $40 on October 26. Before you install Windows 8, I'm going to install a new hard drive in my computer. I need some help on how I can do this...

Is it possible for me to install the new drive hard while I am upgrading. I plan to do a clean install anything. If so, how should I go to?

Thank you very much for your answer.

    Mike

Create the backup of the image that your computer is now (with Windows 7) before installing Windows 8. If anything should go wrong then just restore Windows 7.

I would like to disconnect the LAN cable and any other unnecessary internal or external device before the upgrade. If all goes well then connect the local network and activate Windows 8.

  • Need help with a new hard drive in pavillion wiring elite M9400

    Hello fellow owners HP,.

I recently bought a 1 TB hard drive for my Pavilion Elite M9400T.  I done my share of reading about installing to a new hard drive to another former post office and know how to physically install the disk in the slot, but my question starts with the wiring.

I have a M9400T and saw the video of the installation here in this post.  I read to the bottom when he talks about the installation of additional hard disks into the empty Bay and had questions about the son in photo 5 on the photo below. I realized that I needed a Sata cable, so I bought one today, but I wonder if I can use other cables inside the case already for power. And who will be all I have to do to get this properly installed disc? I took pictures so that it would be easier for me to ask for help.

A and B belong to my main hard drive and I want to know if I can use D (unused but looks like B) and a Sata cable bought my 2nd hard drive. I also noticed that B is related to C, which leads to the motherboard, so I didn't know if I needed to do the same for the 2nd drive.

Connectors SATA 1 and 6 are taken by my hard drive and DVD drive (I think) cannot so I just put my 2nd hard drive on one of the remaining of the caps of 2-5?

Thanks in advance for any and all tips and suggestions.

BTW, I I was able to install the sticks of memory 2x2gb today without any problems for a total of 6 GB today but no matter what slots? I added the 2 slots of the fan and it seems to work very well.

SO, Yes, you can use power connector would be ' for your new hard drive.  If you look closely at the image of a ' and follow the Red wire, it runs directly on the white molex (P4) beside the PSU connector.  He doesn't have to go to the motherboard.  Is not feed all the other components.

  • I would buy a new hard drive for my Compac SR5450F

I was wondering if I bought a new hard drive for my Compac SR5450F will be work from my original restore on anybrand disk or do I have the original hard drive that accompany it.  If I have the same need could you show me where to order on HP.

The Compaq SR5450F comes with a 500 GB Sata hard drive.  You must replace it with a disk of size equal to or greater.

The Spec is 3.5 "SataII / 3GB / s 32 MB cache. Seagate and WD Black are very popular.

  • a few questions about the technical specification of the hard drive

    Hello

    1. I see on my hard drive of my computer desk 5VDC, so I want to know what means first the term VDC?

2 - is the hard drive using 5 to 12 volts, if so, in what situations he uses 5 VOLTS and in which situatios uses 12 VOLTS.

    3. on my hard drive, it gives this values 0.92 A 5VDC and 12VDC 0.90 A now how can I calculate how much energy is to use the hard drive.

answers very short wil p.c. enough.

    Thank you

    Johan

VCC = current continuous Volts. Cars, computers, small appliances electric all use DC. House of industry, wiring supplies all use alternating current. There are all kinds of technical why reason the difference which would take a whole book.

The 5V operates mainly electronics in the drive, the 12v motor to spin the disk. So when the drive goes to sleep due to inactivity 12V disappears to a minimum even if a large part of the 5V remains the same.

Figures are at the maximum, although the current 5V remains essentially the same summits 12V then spinning the drive, when the speed as the current demand

    X 0.92 A = 4.6 w x 0.90 A 12V 5V = 10.8W so the request for the advanced reader = 15.4Watts

    Hi mate,

you need a disk IDE because only this one fits into your machine (there are new standard SATA with two long hard disk connectors and the IDE from an old 40-pin at the back of the HARD drive)

The best choice would be a disc toshiba or something of hitachi, since they are very good brands. I say take some readers with 100 or 120 gigabytes of capacity.

    Welcome them

  • Need to reinstall the new hard drive - will resume disc do this?

My desktop came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed, I paid the extra to receive recovery disks.  I upgraded to Windows 7 and I'm sure the disc.  My hard drive crashed; If I install a new.  Can I use the recovery cd to install windows?  And if so, should I start with Vista and then go to 7 or I can just make 7?

You should be able to use the new hard disk recovery disks. Yes, it would be recommended that you start with Windows Vista, first, you do not need to reactivate Windows Vista, just proceed to install Windows 7 on Vista.

You may need to reactivate by phone:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    (2) press the ENTER"" key.

    (3) select your "country" in the list.

    (4) choose the option "activate phone".

    (5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    (6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

Yes, the recovery disks installing Vista and original software/drivers on a new hard drive. Just be sure to get a hard drive at least as large as the original capacity. It may be big, but not small ability more. I wouldn't go with one of the new large capacity hdd format advanced however.
