  I tried to install XP in my laptop ASUS PRO31jr which currently has Vista Home Premium installed.  I updated the BIOS first and changed the boot on CD/DVD order.  Disk load bunch of drivers, then when it gets to the installation, said he cannot find a previous version of windows installed on the computer and calls for an XP Home edition (full version), or a CD of XP Professional (full version).  The CD I have is XP Professional Academic Edition version 2002.  RHE booklet supplied with the disc seems to indicate that this is the full version, and I successfully used to clean install on XP.  Is the drive of my problem?  I would appreciate a difinative answer if anybody out there knows for sure.  Goodwich.

  You can use another edition, if you wish, because Windows 7 Ultimate is a bit more expensive.

  It seems to cost too much effort to bring the Mac version. So far, even the installer for 64-bit Windows systems has not been published. I would say that this minor effort for a community still larger than Mac users. Unfortunately, it seems that it was not all the resources for XE since the initial release of 11.2 and even that had no resources to fix bugs that had been detected in the beta phase. So I wouldn't put much hope in a port of Mac more. If you do not want to wait for Virtual Box image announced (see {: identifier of the thread = 2201543} for more details) you will probably have to create one yourself.   I called the phone number provided in your screenshot. They indicated that they will need your installation ID and implicitly that they could help you. So go ahead and call, you may be able to solve your problem. Also ask if they throw a new key if its a key OEM or retail.  A key detail allows you to improve in the future without any hassell except possibly activate by phone.

  I already posted this question in response to my previous thread but I don't know if everyone saw that since is a response.

  And now the sad news.

  I am currently typing this laptop for my wife because my PC is completely crushed.

  After being able to finally load these SPs and all my drivers and other software, it seemed that it worked.

  I always tried to avoid the automatic update because everything seemed ok.

  Whenever I have had more software installed on my pc I set up the new restore point.

  In fact twice because the third time I typed system3 and press ENTER to create the new restore point I had immediately the Blue Screen of Death that I'we heard about before.

  So I tried to re - install Windows again, but for the first time that I am not even able to do.

  He said: Windows didn't start because the following file is missing or corrupted \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

  Then he said to press r in the first screen to try to resolve what I did.

  With my original XP cd in, it took me for Windows set up where I faced another problem (new).

  He said: Setup cannot find a previous version of windows installed on your computer.

  He asked me to insert my original cd with NT, 95 or 98 on it.

  OK - I've upgraded from 98 years and I still have this start up par 3 1/2 98 but after moving so fast and technology upgrades for my Office Perrine drive seemed like the size of space.

  What are my options to resolve this problem?

  My HD could be fried?

  Couldit be some project of pirates or viruses?

  I 2HDs a C: 40giga.old Western digital that I had my Windows and second giga D: 120 which was more for backup and storage.

  After having all these problems I always C: formatted and reinstalled Windows but never really messed with my D: drive.

  Could there be something on D:, even after fresh Windows would keep jump on C:?

  Also why it asks me to insert the 98 now and not more recent before when I formatted and resettled C: windows.

  You can dual-boot or you can run XP in a virtual machine. Maybe Windows 7 with XP Mode might work for you. To dual-boot, make sure that the computer you buy supports XP and has drivers for their hardware. Virtualization is idea for non - 3D applications. Since you don't mention what programs you use, you must check with their tech support to ensure that these programs will be running in a virtual machine. Also please note that, if you can run a software virtualization (MS Virtual PC, VMware Workstation, VirtualBox) on Windows 7, XP Mode specialized needs of material specific to the function.

  As the questions indicates how many times you can activate Windows Vista Business? I would like to know because I had to activate Windows 3 - 4 times on a course of 3 days. Is there a limit to the number of times where Microsoft will allow you to activate Windows on the same computer with the same configuration?

  The answer to your question would be both 'yes' and 'no '.

  IIRC, there is a limit on the number of times your license can be activated via the Internet.

  However, after the limit is reached, you can still call them for telephone activation.

  (You will have to wait before the automated voice system to reach a real person tho)
