Any update to Snow Leopard and CS3 or CS4 tracks?

Hi all. I'm looking to upgrade my Mac tiger to snow leopard, but I wanted to make sure that there aren't any problems beforehand. Someone has updated to Snow Leopard? Have you had any problems running CS3 or CS4 since?

Thank you.

There are a few problems with a few plug-ins from third parties, and After Effects CS4 users should switch to After Effects CS4 (9.0.2). Michael Coleman and I try to keep track of issues as they arise. See this post and links it to what we know so far.

  • Can I update to Snow Leopard and keep iPhoto?

I'm still under Snow Leopard on my iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3, 12 GB of memory. I hear that iPhoto has been replaced by pictures in Yosemite. For several reasons, I need to update to Yosemite, but am very concerned about the loss of access and usage of my large iPhoto library. (I backed up on an external drive and also Time Machine).  I am definitely a person no-tech and hope someone can guide me through the update to Yosemite in simple language.

Photos can import iPhoto libraries, but unless you got this copy of iPhoto for the Mac App Store or Apple says that otherwise, you will not be able to upgrade to a version compatible with Yosemite or above.

  • Perils of update for Snow Leopard

I have an early 2009, core 2 duo 2.66 ghz running 10.6.8.  People tell me that Snow Leopard is the latest really stable os than apple is putting out, but I would like to upgrade.

With can the upgrade of the system how I go?  I know that El Capitan is out, but the MAvericks would be ok?

What are the problems could I meet if I leave Snow Leopard?  Breaks down?  Slowdowns?

    Thank you

    Welcome to Apple Support communities

If your product is correct (this means that you have an iMac early 2009), you can go as far as OS X El Capitan.

If you look in the Internet, you will probably see a lot of people complain about performance issues with modern versions of OS X I have been using OS X for Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and I have no problem with any OS X version. Moreover, I consider OS X El Capitan as one of the most stable versions, even in older computers (I am running it on a late 2009 iMac, which is similar to your computer).

You shouldn't be too worried about accidents or slow, but more on the compatibility of the application. Old apps is not compatible with OS X El Capitan (for example, Mac OS X Snow Leopard is the last version that supports PowerPC applications), so first check that all your applications are supported. Their update to the latest version available is a way, but there are Web sites that allow you to check that, as RoaringApps-> http://roaringapps.com

Apart from this, make a backup of your entire system before the upgrade. In doing so, you'll be able to format your Mac, to reinstall OS X and restore what you want in case of accidents or poor performance, so your Mac will run correctly.

  • Which printer works with 10.6.8, snow leopard and more advanced:

What printer will work well with system 10.6.8 v.1.1 and leave like lion, mountain lion, Yosemite and same El capitan? Work on snow leopard and have a MacBook Pro bought in 2010 and that works very well. Would I be able to upgrade to El capitan? Received a message a while back from Apple to install makes me believe it's possible. And no problem, the upgrade to all the other intermediate systems mentioned? Have been looking online for a reliable site for printer, but have not found a definitive.

    Please take a look at...

    https://www.Apple.com/OSX/how-to-upgrade/#hardware-requirements

Who should you help to see if your model is supported & see what features it supports.

Have you already 10.7, 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10 purchased in your Mac App store account? Apple has removed these from the store so you can't buy more. You can download them only as a "purchase".

You don't need them if your Mac can run 10.11, you can ignore the versions if you wish. Backup before you apply any update - just in case where do multiple backups

What about the printer - I don't know, sorry, you need to wait for others to answer or try Google, etc.

  • My inner smartdrive dvd player won't read DVDs more.  I have updated to Snow Leopard in Yosemite.

I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.  I bought in 2009 iMac with Snow Leopard and have to Lion then updated my current operating system.  The internal dvd player has worked with much fussing, (insert the disc - closing - turn after a wait - by pushing the drive when he jumped on reboot).  If I had the chance after a few hours, the video disc show up on my desk.  When this happened, I was opening the dvd player that was in the Finder and the disc would play. I also tried to open the dvd first player and then insert the disc.  That no longer works.  Yesterday, only it just stop working.  The reader still takes dvd and swirls and click as before but then ejects the dvd. Repeatedly stop and restart is no longer works.  I make sure that the dvd be clean before I use it and have tried many different DVDs without success.  I think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have an idea/instructions a nearly dead grandmother brain that can follow to update or redate back to original factory setting to help this poor Smartdrive not so smart?

I have no TV, only my computer and phone at low prices.  I need to watch that my library borrowed from the dvd.

    Thank you.

    Try a cleaning CD/DVD

You can also try to clean by:

How to clean a Superdrive DVD using a credit card!

I suspect the optical drive has failed. My 2009 Mac Mini could not shoot with same symptom 4 years ago.

To confirm a drive failure, insert a Snow Leopard installation DVD and try to start with the C key.

If this isn't the case, they drive could not be started.

I would just get an external optical drive, one powered with an AC adapter. The Superdrive Apple USB does not work without a hack.

  • Leopard MacBook pro late 2008 - updated to update to snow leopard

I have a macbook pro late 2008 with leopard on updated to snow leopard, which is the best upgrade, that I can do without problems?

I upgraded to 8 GB memory and 500 GB MMX 200 ssd.  tTe upgrade was necessary because I installed el capitan and he absolutely killed my mac, so I got the diagnostics to find my drive was not hard.

I'll reinstall leopard and use my snow leopard updated, but to what extent until I can go without problems over?

In theory, it must be able to handle El Capitan. You can't really judge El Capitan performance enough if you ran it on a bad HARD drive.

Your only real options stay with Snow Leopard, goes to the mountain, which is still fairly recent, Lion or El Capitan.  I think most people would say that Lion (10.7) alone is not worthwhile.  Mavericks and Yosemite are no longer available unless you already have a copy.  Mountain Lion is no longer receiver update but is not a fall to the same extent (yet) by the developers of software under Snow Leopard.  Some claim that it is the operating system more acceptable from 10.6.  You can always buy a download code for it.

  • IPhoto 9.2.3 on Snow Leopard and direct upgrade to El captain

    Hi guys,.

I'm under iPhoto 9.2.3 on Snow Leopard and want to move to El captain.

I have read that I need iPhoto 9.6.1 until I upgrade to El Captain so I still want to use iPhoto.

Problem is that 9.2.3 is the latest available version of iPhoto on Snow Leopard, so I'm stuck here somehow.

I had a quick glance under the items purchased on the app store, but since my iLife came with a DVD and therefore not bought for download, I guess it will never reveal under the items purchased.

So I also assume that as soon as I upgrade to El Captain, iPhoto does not open and I won't be able to update iPhoto to 9.6.1

Does anyone have an idea on how I could always upgrade level to El captain and stick to iPhoto?

    Thank you!

A member of the family has iPhoto installed 9.6.1, so they could install it for you on your Mac?

Otherwise, you can refresh only with the help of the Support App Store, but they are very reluctant to help if iPhoto has not been purchased on the App Store.

One way to continue to work with iPhoto would be to create a clone your mac to an external drive bootable and boot into snow leopard since the external hard drive, if you wish to continue using iPhoto.

But in the long run, switch to Photos for Mac.  Apple improves Photos for Mac with each update of the system.  iPhoto is becoming less and less supported. Maps and locations are no longer supported in iPhoto 9.4.3 or earlier, Apple is more does not support printing for iPhoto projects, latest applications can appear more the iPhoto library in the media browser.

  • I'm running on snow leopard and upgrade to el capitan. If I just upgrade, my data will be safe after finished or need to recover again?

I'm running on snow leopard and upgrade to el capitan. If I just update without backup (because I have no external HARD disk) data will generally be safe / normal after all as we updated iOS iPhone via OTA or need to recover the data again whenever we have updated to Mac OS?

If all goes to plan, your data will be safe.  At times things go bad for a backup is indispensable if you value your data.

  • Upgrade to Snow Leopard and Time Machine

Hello. I found this topic in an old topic, but it has been blocked so I couldn't answer. Here is a new.

I have a fairly old MacBook Pro... mid-2007. Provided with Tiger. Upgrade to Leopard in 2010 or more. I want to now upgrade to Snow Leopard and make a complete installation where I have completely clean the existing hard drive.

I did the Time Machine backups for about four years on my external hard drive. When I install Snow Leopard on my MBP, I can just do simple drag and drop the kind of things from my external hard drive on the hard drive of the MBP?

For example, once I've erased the hard disk of the MBP and do a new installation of Snow Leopard, can I then connect my external hard drive, open a certain folder and something like Pages slide window of the HD to the window of the Applications on my MBP?

    Thank you!

Drag and Drop could be a problem, because these applications and files will not be usable unless they are properly updated. It would be better to have a clean install of Snow Leopard and then use the Migration Assistant to transfer files from your Time Machine backup. Note that Snow Leopard will ship with the Apple apps so they do not need to be transferred. You can check with 3rd party developers to ensure the compatibility of their software and upgrade options.

It is with the Migration Wizard:

  • I've updated to Snow Leopard for OSX El Capitan as the info said that my Mac 2009 could be updated.  However, I had a lot of problems and it is extremely slow, among other things.  Should I have upgraded Yosemite or something else first?

I have a 2009 IMac and had Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and IPhotos, latest version.  While he was trying to use something new, I wanted to download (can't remember what now) my system said that I had to switch to OSX El Capitan, so I did.  Since then, I've had nothing but problems, the computer is very slow to open anything and Photos is terrible - I can't do anything with it and I hate it!  I much preferred IPhotos.  My question is, should I have upgraded to Yosemite or something else before going directly to El Capitan?  If so, what can I do now to remedy the situation?  Thanks for any advice.

My question is, should I have upgraded to Yosemite or something else before going directly to El Capitan?

No, but you must have insured all the software you have installed, changes to the system, in particular, was compatible with El Capitan.

You can use iPhoto, but you should get used to the Photos like iPhoto will be is more up-to-date and may stop working at some point.

If you run this program, it will show what is installed. After the output here and we might be able to offer advice on what's causing your problems

  • Once I updated to Firefox 11, I can't open the pdf files. It's more the computer, snow leopard and lion and more than one Web site.

I've updated to Firefox 11 and now I can't open the PDFs Online. This has happened on more than 1 computer, using the two OS 10.6.8 and OS 7.0 and on more than one Web site. I tried to uncheck "block pop-up windows" in preferences, but which did not help.
When I use Safari to open the same file to pdf, they open fine. Everything worked fine with my Firefox until I did the upgrade.

I prefer to continue to use Firefox, but I can't understand the root of the problem.

Has anyone else had this happen as well?

Thank you, gentlemen, to find a "solution" to this particular behavior of Firefox. It is really curious that even if the screen is blank, you can indeed save the .pdf Ghost and then open the saved file to view. What is amazing to me is that this issue does not seem to be what makes the hit parade of the problems currently experienced Mozilla. Not everyone will be willing to do a research project extended rather than leave the ship for Safari, etc..

  • Update for Snow Leopard to El captain? Should I do it? (Loss of iphoto organization a big concentration)

I have an imac of all about 2010 with 2.93 GHz and intel Core i7.  I've been under Snow Leopard since day 1! I've been reluctant to upgrade because of the reviews on the new OS every year and now I'm way behind, but snow leopard ran flawlessly for me so why I kept for so long, but I think I should take the step now.  One of my BIGGEST concerns is to lose iphoto (I've arranged in folders and albums, and I don't want to lose this Organization!). Has anyone taken this step to upgrade this old operating system? I'm even able to upgrade directly to El captain in Snow Leopard? And how will this affect my organization "iphoto" penetrating "photos"? Any info or links or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You will find bad reviews on all OS for each platform, because you can't please everyone.

Yes, you can go directly to El Capitan, as long as you have Mac OS X 10.6.8.

You don't have to use Photos, you can continue to use iPhoto, as long as you have version 9.6.1.

You should always make a backup before doing any update most of the OS.

    Thank you for your help.

< personal information under the direction of the host >

You can go to depends on what your model is compatible with. You cannot install Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite because they are no longer available.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

    3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

4 MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)- model identifier 2.1 or later

5 mac mini (early 2009 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

6 mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

7 Xserve (early 2009) - model identifier 3.1 or later version

To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

    My applications are compatible?

See table of application - RoaringApps compatibility

    Upgrade to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install the Mavericks, it can still meet the specifications to install Lion.

You can buy Lion to the Apple store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus taxes.  It's a download. You will receive an email with a redemption code that you then use on the Mac App Store for download Lion. Save a copy of this installer to your download folder because Setup deletes itself at the end of the installation.

    Lion system requirements

1 mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

    or Xeon processor

    2. 2 GB of memory

    3 OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8) recommended

    4. 7 GB of available space

    5. certain features require an Apple ID; conditions apply.
