  • network adapter, APIPA, Ipconfig, IP address

I currently have a problem of access to the internet.  Earlier today, and for much of the past 3 years I had ZERO connection issues on my router, but tonight I changed everything.

When I type IPCONFIG/all I find that my IP autoconfiguration service is activated showing me that APIPA is kicking for a reason any on riding the DHCP of the router.

    I know what apipa, because it's a 169.254.x.y address.

For some reason when I go to access the network it tells me that it is LOCAL only, but I can't access the router or the internet.  When I connect to the router by another machine, it does not list my computer on the network with the IP address.

    Never had this problem before.

Tried the resolution to add DWORD in registry without result.  Also tried to use the tools of administration, but for some reason, they aren't on my machine.

    Help, please.

A network connection gets only an APIPA address, after he's trying, and does not get an address from a DHCP server.  Something prevents your computer to communicate with your router.  It could be a temporary problem - see if rebooting the router and the computer help you. Boulder computer Maven

  • Computers with static IP address, get addresses (169.254) APIPA

There are several posts on my network configured with static IP addresses. To go to sleep or restart (warm), they will get an APIPA 169.254.x.x. address I found that there are three ways to solve this case temporarily:

    1. Shut the computer down (cold) and back on the power.
    2. Disable and re-enable the adapter.
    3. Disconnect and reconnect the network cable.

I had some success with affecting the NETWORK 100 Mbit/s/Full Duplex card AND the port of the switch to match. This seems like a solution of cloogy. Updated the drivers of the card toward the newer versions does not help. The problem exists on many brands adapter, including Intel, Broadcom and Marvell. Nothing useful is in the event logs. Our switching infrastructure is Cisco all if it matters.

    Can anyone help?

  • desktop computers to linger in the folder 'inaccessible Agent' for a long time, apipa address might be a clue

    Hi all

We run see 6.1.1 with linked clone Windows 7 desktops. Lately, some workstations hang in the State 'inaccessible Agent' for what seems like 15 or 20 minutes until they are refreshed. We have pools set on closing session and refreshment after 1 minute if disconnected. We noticed that desktop in this weird State have an apipa for the virtual NETWORK adapter address (starts with 169.254.x.x). If go us to the office as local administrator and do an ipconfig / renew, it will get a valid IP address on our network and as soon as it gets a valid IP address, he leaves the "Agent unreachable" queue and passes by the update process. It seems that Conversely, we can get these desktop computers to process more quickly is to remove them.

This is not an isolated machine virtual on a particular ESXi host (I saw him arrive on all hosts) and when I look for ESXi hosts network settings, I see that the virtual machines in question are related to the virtual switch. I ensured that the virtual switch has enough ports (120) and I checked the DHCP servers, and there are a lot of IPs available in the subnet where live virtual offices.

Also, it does not seem to be isolated to a pool, we see in a pool that uses the management of the Persona and a swimming pool which is not.

Any thoughts on how to solve the problems?

    Thank you!

Don't know it could help you, but we have IP private address automatically on our vdi error (it worked fine, but it broke after an update) we had to close 1 our DHCP servers (we had 2) since then, then all is back to normal. We will need to track DHCP to know exactly what is the cause of the problem none of our dhcp gave a clue at the time.

  • One of the virtual machine gets the APIPA address after you have configured with a static IP address, where the other VMS works very well with same vlan with static IP

We have deployed 3 VMs with the same vlan where one virtual machine gets APIPA address, even after the configuration of the IP address manually.

We do not have servers DHCP and other VMs 2 find with the same vlan

  • Limited connectivity or none - don't need to fix wireless several times before, it connects to a non-APIPA address

On the DSL home network, I have a hard time with the connection from my laptop Windows XP Pro SP 3 to Westell A90 modem.  Attempts to connect result in messages "limited or no connectivity" with postings from IP starting with 169.254.  If I use Windows to repair the connection, is finally connected to my home network using the default address 198.168.1.1 & DHCP server.  I don't have this problem on any other network (WiFi hotspots, etc.).  No other phones don't have this problem at home.  Any ideas?

  • Laptop with Satellite U300-153 wireless connectivity problem

I bought a laptop model Toshiba Satellite U300-153. I liked the laptop for its impressive looks and simplicity. But I am facing a problem with its WiFi connectivity. It shows * LIMIT CONNECTIVIY * and cannot browse the Internet. It shows the APIPA ip address.

Help me solve this problem. Without WiFi, I can't imagine a laptop...

There are a few general options that must be verified.
First check if your WLan driver can be updated.
Second, you must Access the properties of the Protocol TCP/IP of WLan and must check if all options are set for the automatic.

Last but not least all firewall settings should be checked also. Most incorrect security settings might prevent the internet connection.

  • Iomega HSM stall shortly after startup

I have an Iomega 1 TB Hsm working successfully on my network 2 PC for at least 4 years. Mainly I access it from my Windows 7 PC. It is mainly used for the backup.

Normally it appears in Windows Explorer as distinct from 5 or 6-drive external, indicating each the same maximum and storage used.

Today a bunch of afterinitial time, all "readers" has disappeared from Windows Explorer and all other list file/folder. All that remained was a record called 'Photos' displayed in the network category.

I tried to restart the HSM and found that the power button had no effect, so I simply had to pull on the power cord. The HSM exploded, like the white LED. When I plugged back it it after a few minutes, the blue LED still did not come. Then I restarted the PC and everything is back to normal - for a short period.

I did this procedure several times during the day, with the same result each time - normality for a few minutes then failed.

Tonight I looked with that community site and found a response on May 11, 2013, a similar problem by bshadid.

    1. I followed the first stage of the response by directly connecting the HSM to my PC and without going through the router. I turned on both devices, but has seen no sign explicit of the HSM startup. Nor did he ask me for an APiPA address. All 5 or 6 "readers" will appear in Windows Explorer without any specific action from me.
    2. However, I used the arp-a command Windows twice or more to get what I assumed to be the APiPA address you want - 00-d0-b8-09-dc-84
    3. When I tried to use this address in Internet Explorer to access the HSM, it was rejected.
    4. Hoping that I had healed but the problem, I reconnected the HSM and PC separately to the router and restarted both. NOT GOOD!

The only thing I've ever done is update the driver for the HSM, even if I'm working on Windows 7, while the HSM seems to date from the time of Windows XP. I dared not do this because update instructions warn against the danger of losing files to update, and I have nowhere to save data outside the HSM itself!

Another possibility, I thought, is that the partition (?) backups of the HSM could have a limitation of the size that has now been exceeded. But Windows does not give me access to this information.

Most important developments since I posted my question:

It's clearly a hardware failure: there is shortly after the restart of the HSM, a clicking sound coming from the unit, and 5 out of the 6 'readers' disappear again in Windows Explorer.
I'm going to buy a new device and I hope as the old one remains alive long enough for me copy at least the most important of the old data.

  • Unable to connect to Wifi. No guest password when connecting

    Matt,

Please check the IP addresses defined on each of the computers.

-Open the command prompt amd type ipconfig/all and press ENTER.

Also try to ping the router from the computer and check if there is a good connection.

    - Ping 192.168.1.1 (if 192.168.1.1 is defined as the IP address of the router).

If computers have starting with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP addresses then you will not be able to connect to the router wireless and the Internet. This address is called APIPA.

You will have to perhaps release IP addresses and make sure.

-In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER.

    ipconfig/release

    ipconfig/flushdns

    ipconfig / renew

Please let us know the IP addresses defined on each computer and also the IP address it of the router.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

From descriptions of the question, it seems that you can not connect to the Wi - Fi connection.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I'll help you fix the problem.

To help you solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following question:

    1. don't you try to connect to a wired connection?

    2. what IP address is defined on the computer?

    3. What is the brand and model of the computer?

Please follow the methods and mark the question below:

    Method 1:

I suggest you to check the IP address of your computer by following steps below.

    a. click on Start menu, click run, type cmd.exe and press enter.

    b. type Ipconfig/all and press enter.

If the IP address of the computer appears as 169.254.x.x, and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. Address 169.254 is an APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) address that is assigned when a DHCP server is not available or accessible.

When this IP address is set, you may not be able to connect to the Internet.

Release and renew the IP address of your computer:

    c. type ipconfig enough and press enter.

    d. type ipconfig / renew and press enter.

Also check by manually assigning IP address and default gateway.

    Method 2:

  • With regard to Taredo tunnel

Yes, I called my network provider, Time Warner Cable and the tech said that they are constantly changing IP address in constand mode.  My linksys router which is connected to the cable Modem Time Warner is the material which is assigned the 192... IP xxx.  I have no problems connecting to the internet.  It's my security system Norton that I check every day which appear in the historical section of the IP address of 169.xxxxx as a pseudo WARNING tunneling interface.  Time Warner said that as you responded to me that Windows problems the 169... XXXX IP address when comes into conflict with the IP address of the router.

Everything goes well without any problems of internet connection.  Thanks for your reply.

Everything goes well without any problems of internet connection.  Thanks for your reply.

    Do not worry.  Be happy.

You'd be happier if you dumped your Norton Security software.  (If you do, be sure to use the Norton removal tool).

You can stop reading here, but if you want more details, read on.

Your ISP - Time Warner - properly explained that it assigns you a "dynamic" IP address  This means that the IP address can change from session to session (assigned external IP address will always remain the same until you disconnect from your ISP).

Because you are using a router, however, you can never see the IP address Time Warner assigned to you unless you have to look at the page 'Status' of the utility of configuration of the Linksys router or (b) go to a Web site such as http://www.whatismyip.com/

I guess it's possible that Norton can access this address and report it, but for most people that would be superfluous.  Unless you're running a web server or otherwise need to know how to reach your computer over the Internet (for example, to access your computer at home during a trip) there is no need to know your external IP address.

If you open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK) and type
    ipconfig/all
You can see - among others - the local IP address that is assigned to your computer by your Linksys router.  The output will look much like this:

Ethernet connection to the Local network card:

    The connection-specific DNS suffix. :

If you see an IP between 169.254.0.1 and 169.254.255.254, which is called a (APIPA) automatic private IP address and is assigned by Windows for the network card in your computer when the NETWORK adapter is configured to obtain an IP address automatically (default) and (b) the NETWORK card fails to reach the server DHCP (usually in your router) which is supposed to automatically assign this address.  It is almost always an indication of password bad wireless encryption.  This has nothing to do with a conflict with the IP address of the router.

If you see something on 'Teredo Tunneling Interface' you are most likely using Vista or Windows 7 rather than XP, but what version of Windows you have, the "Teredo Tunneling" Interface relates to IPv6 and you don't need and almost certainly not using it.  What follows is not my mother tongue, but it is accurate:

    To make a long story short, this means that you have IPv6 is installed as part of your network components. Check the following;

Go to control panel and double-click on network connections. Right-click on the icon for your connection to the Local network and select properties from the menu.

On the general page of the property sheet, there is a box which should contain an entry for Microsoft TCP/IP version 6.

I won't bore you with the details, but the main thing is that most people have no need at the moment for IPv6. That said, it will not cause problems if leave you it installed on your computer. That said, uninstall IPv6 will not cause you to lose your internet connection. The entry see you for the Internet (TCP/IP) protocol is important.

If you are curious about IPv6, here is a website with more information.

I've set up another configuration of TCP/IP, but it does not connect. I need to access the 3 different machine networks. Any ideas?

    original title: alternate tcp/ip

If by "alternate TCP/IP configuration" you mean the settings on this screen--> http://tinyurl.com/42kbqqz, then, to quote Inigo Montoya, "you keep using that Word. I don't think it means what you think it means. »

The 'alternative' configuration settings tab, if you select "IP address private auto" (APIPA) or "specified user" is only used IF "obtain an IP address automatically" is set on the tab 'General' (http://tinyurl.com/8p9hn) AND the adapter cannot get an IP from a DHCP server.

Most cable networks use a DHCP server to automatically assign IP addresses.  In this case, just plug your Ethernet cable and you're automatically configured and connected.

If the problem is that your network requires a static IP address (that is, they use a DHCP server to automatically assign IP addresses), you will need a third-party network settings manager.  If you have an IBM (Lenovo) ThinkPad, you can use "Dial-up connections."
